Like another poster said, he didn't have much range, and though he's very intelligent he's also a fruit bat, startes to go off the rails with his association with Oliver Stone. There was a big scandal back in the 80s where him and his then new wife Sarah Owens accused Sean Young of stalking them and making threats, but it seemed Young and Woods had a major affair on the set of The Boost and Woods was trying to distance himself from that in Owens' eyes. Young already had a rep but when Owens left him after less than 2 years with her own tales of abuse, the industry started to back away slowly. Woods and Young are kind of a draw in the cray department, IMO. His politics might have played a role, but not as big of a role as his general weirdness and the underage girl thing only contributed to the miasma of sleaze around him. I've met him once years ago and I can say he's one of those people who comes off as a twitchy tweaker without even having to take anything to get there.

Well, it's been a long time, R41, but I was working in LA at the time Stone put Woods in Salvador. It was one of those Apocalypse Now type shoots, and they both had the kind of personalities that fed off each other. Stone had married and sobered up after Scarface and though the result was a major film at the time and established Woods as a leading man, the 2 probably weren't personally good for each other. Certainly Woods became a self-important asshole. Stone's sobriety didn't last if the tales from the set of The Doors are to be believed, and neither did his marriage, and a lot of Wood's behavior in the 80s might be partly explained by, uh, partying. Both men had--have a major issues with women and then came the whole Sean Young thing. I have no proof but Stone s treatment of her on the set of Wall Street might have been connected to the whole Woods/Young affair.. She's always been difficult but this is a director who worked multiple times with Charlie Sheen, for Christ's sake. Damn, this was all such a long time ago.

Worked with him for a couple of days soon after the Sean Young incident. He was very flirtatious and gave me the impression he was trying his best to be charming. However he also really came across as a paternal authority figure type as well. I get the way, way younger woman attachment as he obviously has control issues with women.

Sean Young said at the time it was her tradition to give the pair of pantyhose she wore at the audition to her director afterwards. She also had an affair with Kevin Costner when they worked together. While it's common for the leading couple to continue their romance off set apparently Sean Young didn't take the wrap party as a polite parting farewell with James Woods. She didn't mind being dumped by Costner but tried to hold on to Woods. Hence the crazy stories when Woods when back to his wife after filming was over.
