I'm 35 and have slightly oily skin with yuge gaping cavernous pores on my face. I wash with a glycerin soap but I don't moisturize or any of that jazz. What is your skin regime, please? And what would you recommend I throw on my face?

I suggest you see a dermatologist and ask these questions. Maybe medical science can do something proven and safe for the pore size. Don't throw your money away on promises and snake oil.

At 44, I have as if overnight developed jowls. Anyone know if botox or juvederm (sp) can address it? How much will it set me back?
by Anonymous | reply 2 | October 30, 2016 2:10 PM |
Moisturize for starters. In my experience when i don't moisturize, my skin tries to compensate and produces too much of its own oil. So yes, people with oily skin need to moisturize too. As for the pores, there are a lot of great serums out there, you have to find what works for you.

We seem to have this thread every couple of months. As always, I'd recommend Advanced Génifique serum, which retards aging at the genetic level.
This is followed by Absolue Precious Cells, which stimulates stem cell production. Both can be found at your local Lancôme counter or at the Lancôme Boutique on NYC's Upper West Side.
I'm a beautiful young man and intend to stay that way. I've been stunning since I was a boy but I feel that Lancôme is helping me attain perfection.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | October 30, 2016 2:23 PM |
My mother who lived to be 82 had good skin all her life. Partly it had to have been genetics. She never used moisturizers on her face. Her argument was that the more you rub your facial skin the more you loosen the connective tissues and make it flabbier. She did give herself DIY facials (she said she got the instructions from a magazine when she was a kid.) She washed her face every night with a washcloth and mild facial soap and that's it. I think she also sometimes used a toner like Sea Breeze.

R7 I know that may sound conceited but you don't know what my life has been like. My boyhood was Death in Venice, on speed. Everywhere I went, I was stared at by men, especially middle-aged and older...all with that same leering gaze that gave me chills.
The beach, restaurants, stores--nowhere was safe. Beaches and swimming pools were the worst, of course, since I was nearly naked, covered in only short, tight trunks. I could watch them watching me, enigmatic and mysterious behind my dark glasses.
If my admirers were relatively young and very hot, I'd put on a little show for them: langorously and sensually applying sun lotion to my silky, flawless skin. As often as not, their reaction was barely restrained by their own bathing suits.

I'm 27 years old. I believe in taking care of myself and a balanced diet and rigorous exercise routine. In the morning if my face is a little puffy I'll put on an ice pack while doing stomach crunches. I can do 1000 now. After I remove the ice pack I use a deep pore cleanser lotion. In the shower I use a water activated gel cleanser, then a honey almond body scrub, and on the face an exfoliating gel scrub. Then I apply an herb-mint facial mask which I leave on for 10 minutes while I prepare the rest of my routine. I always use an after shave lotion with little or no alcohol, because alcohol dries your face out and makes you look older. Then moisturizer, then an anti-aging eye balm followed by a final moisturizing protective lotion.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | October 30, 2016 4:09 PM |
Do what you can now, after 40 the jowls appear and no cream or lotion is going to help. I'm almost 50 and always looked younger and have used every lotion and potion out there but nothing except surgical procedure will correct jowls. OP I don't know what you can do about large pores. The best thing you can do is accept yourself as you are and move on.

1. Try one of the cleansers for oily skin at the link, or look around your local drugstore.
2.) Use sunscreen during the day. I like Olay Regenerist, but there are plenty of good ones to choose from.
3.) Alternate using Retin-A and a vitamin C serum at night. You can get Retin-A online; Timeless Skin Care Vitamin C Serum is a cheap but excellent knockoff of the expensive Skinceuticals serum.

R11 I'm not sure what you want to know.
The attention from the older boys and the young husbands both excited and frightened me. I wanted to feel the physical expression of their adoration for me but instinctively knew I could cause problems for all involved.
I bring all this up because it taught me at a young age the power of my breathtaking looks and the importance of preserving them.

OP What you need is a Clarisonic cleaning device. Tghe pores enlarge partly because they have gunk in them. This tool does an amazing job of removing every last bit of debris and gunk.
I also have quite oily skin, but at 58 I have nary a line on my face. I use no moisturizer and I sleep with a clean face. Some day you will be happy that you were blessed with oily skin.
By the way, notice I did not say that I am 58 but could pass for 45. I think I look like a great 58 and that's fine with me.

R27 For the budget-minded, L'Oréal Youth Code Serum Intense is an excellent substitute for Lancôme Génifique (as well as for Lauder's Night Repair).
There's another product L'Oréal currently makes that's very similar to an excellent Lancôme formlation:
Over a decade ago, Lancôme introduced Résolution D-Contraxol with Boswellia serrata (Indian frankincense) extract and manganese. These ingredients were intended to mimic Botox to a lesser degree by supressing microcontractions in the skin which cause wrinkles.
A few months later, L'Oréal (parent company of Lancôme) marketed their version called Wrinkle De-Crease (Décontract'Rides in France). It's still made with the same formulation, but now called Collagen Moisture Filler. As an older product, it's very inexpensive, even by L'Oréal pricing, about $ 8-9 at Target or Walmart. Here's the current packaging:
by Anonymous | reply 43 | November 30, 2016 4:22 AM |
That should be "...very similar to an excellent Lancôme formulation:..."
Also, I forgot to mention the Lacura product is fine so far. Too early to tell much. I didn't break out from it. I was worried about the heavy scent.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | November 30, 2016 4:28 AM |
Heavy scent is usually a deal breaker for me. I did try that Nivia oil free balm that people were raving about as a primer. It's dirt cheap, also comes in an strangely expensive looking glass bottle. But has that strong old spice/nivia for men smell. Luckily it isn't too metallic smelling and burns off within a couple of seconds. Finishes really dry on the skin, almost too dry, but guaranteed not break out in summer. Tiniest drop needed.

Put this on the wrong thread. Fascinating that such elaborate skin care preparatiins were made in the 1700s.
Marie Antoinette...each morning, cleansed her face with Eau Cosmétique de Pigeon (yes, it was really made with pigeons!). The Toilette Of Health, Beauty, And Fashion shared the recipe, first used by Danish women, with their readers:
“Take juice of water-lilies, of melons, of cucumbers, of lemons, each one ounce; briony, wild succory, lily-flowers, borage, beans, of each a handful: eight pigeons stewed. Put the whole mixture into an alembic, adding four ounces of lump sugar, well pounded, one drachma of borax, the same quantity of camphor, the crumb of three French rolls, and a pint of white wine. When the whole has remained in digestion for seventeen or eighteen days, proceed to distillation, and you will obtain pigeon-water, which is such an improvement of the complexion.”
After cleansing her skin, she would apply Eau des Charmes, an astringent, and finally, Eau d’Ange, a whitener. To keep her hands soft, the Queen slept wearing gloves infused with sweet almond oil, rose water, and wax.
Unlike most people at Versailles she bathed frequently, but always wearing a flannel chemise to protect her modesty. Once in the bathtub, she would wash herself with a scented (bergamot, amber and herbs) soap, exfoliated her skin with muslin pads filled with bran, all the while sitting on a large pad filled with pine nuts, linseed, and sweet almonds.

Lots of good info in this thread.
[quote]For some reason Aldi doesn't sell the caviar cream in the US, but you can get it (at a markup) on eBay and Amazon.
Unfortunately that markup is so high (when you can find the cream), it defeats the purpose of using an Aldi product.
Right now I'm using a Korean product with a base of horse oil (!!!). Lots of botanicals. Some bizarre ingredients, like snail slime filtrate.

I still swear by Clear Difference from Lauder.
I must have used it for over 20 years. It kept my somewhat oily face in perfect balance but more importantly, pimple free.
I finally stopped using it when I realized I needed something more moisturizing as I got older.
I use Pore Perfect from Benefit Cosmetics and it erases my pores wonderfully.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | February 6, 2018 4:56 AM |
The only thing that truly stands a chance of reducing pore size is aggressive dermabrasion, a deep chemical peel, or laser resurfacing. Using devices to unclog pores may make them appear smaller temporarily, but they fill right back up again.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | February 6, 2018 5:42 AM |
The most important thing is moisturizer. Make sure you keep your skin moisturized every single day.
Secondly, exfoliating. A couple of times a week should be enough. Exfoliating removes dead skin cells and makes it easier for the moisturizer to penetrate the skin.
My skin is extremely sensitive, so I only cleanse with oils.
If you want to, you can use a toner and take some face masks.
Plus, don't forget sunscreen.

I've just turned 45 years old and I have great skin, no one believes my age, they all think Im in my 30s.
ANYWAY, in my experience, the biggest secrets to anti-aging skin care for men would have to be: 1. Drink as much water as possible, 2. Clean your skin from the inside out- no alcohol or caffeine, they dry you out. Take fish oil everyday. 3. Ive used Retin-A (tretinoin) on my skin three times a week for over 15 years, start early! I now use and recommend Curology- custom made prescription strength cream with retinol and vitamin C. 4. Exfoliate your face daily and follow with Hyaluronic Acid/ Vitamin C serum. There are many on Amazon for less than $20 5. Always use a moisturizer with sunscreen. There are so many out there, I use Kiehl's and I also buy a lot of Korean beauty products, they are inexpensive and really work. 6. Been using a Neutrogena Light Mask and have already noticed result and it is very inexpensive. 7. Last but not least, get yourself an eye cream, use it at night so your eyes stay hydrated.

A kid walked up to me yesterday and started chatting me up. He swore he was 17 (legal age in this state) but no way. Finally it turns out he was in middle school. Yikes!
