I'd forgotten about him and the standup comedian surge of the early 80s.
I also didn't realize he'd come out.

I used to confuse him with Kevin Spacey when Kevin Spacey first started appearing in things. I had no idea Meaney was gay and am still amazed that Spacey isn't out.

r1 I didn't either. Good for him.
He was found in his home, autopsy pending according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Speaking of white schlubby comedians and death, was the cause of death of Patton Oswalt's wife ever revealed?

A Prayer for Kevin Meaney. I didn't know he was family; may he rest in peace in the arms of a 21 year old fitness model who has daddy issues.

Doesn't seem so, R4. Back in April they said the coroner's office was so backed up with cases that it might take months to get the results.

I liked him because he liked to make the audience uncomfortable. He was 60 years old at the time of his death.
Here he is coming out on the Joy Behar (transcript only). But you never know about him- it could be a practical joke, just to irritate people.

Met him once. Sweet guy.

I always related to his humor on growing up Irish-American and Catholic. And being chubby and schlubby. R.I.P. Kevin. Kill the people.

I never got him. His big bit was pretending to be a mom saying "Crack pipe" over and over.

A lot of comedians are paying tribute to him on twitter

He looks like he lost some weight in R8's video.

Oh fuck this is sad. I really loved his comedy. One of my favorites.

Always thought he was kinda cute....with the potential to be really handsome had he gotten in shape.
But funny people aren't quite as funny when they're hot.

Got funnier as he got older. Maybe once his deep dark secret was revealed, he connected better with the audience?

I adored him back when I'd stay up late and watch Tonight show. He didn't seem angry or mean as so many great comics do. I met him at a restaurant after Producers and our group told him that whenwad fantastic. He seemed genuinely grateful for our comments. Later, he sent a round of drinks over to our table.. which was a group of at least 13 people. I was/am sad that I he passed away after just being out few years. Joy Behar gave him a lovely tribute on View.
