Peter Scanavino
Do you think he would have made a good Brian Kinney (QAF) had he been cast instead of Gale Harold?
He's a great actor and he's cute, but is never discussed on DL. Why is that? Does the rampant anti- Italian sentiment on here have anything to do with it?

I think he was too young at the time. He was only 20 when the show started. I think Brian celebrates his 30th birthday (which he's dreading) in the pilot.

I love me some Scanavino. I've been a fan since I first saw him on Third Watch.

Do you think Kinney would have hit that? I think he would have been too intimidated by a younger version of himself. Then again, maybe he would have rode him, bareback, without lube to make him suffer as punishment for reminding him of his former self. Kinney was a bit of a sociopath you must admit.

Another rare example of a twink aging gracefully. He matured and comes off as more masculine now that he's in his 30s.. He's the only reason I continue to watch Law & Order. Can't wait to see how he develops in the next 10 years. He's definitely an overlooked gem.

He's cute. Just about the only thing about SVU that would interest me anymore. What do we know DL?

I've known him for almost 20 years. Straight. Moody ("Prickly Pete"), though relaxing a bit as he gets older. Married. Good kisser (I'm female). Very, very talented.

Blah. Boring to look at and terribly cheesy on SVU. Always look like he's reading off a cue card and chews every scene he's in. I don't get the appeal at all. Reminds me of white bread and mayo. The guy doesn't have the acting chops to pull off any serious acting and definitely isn't leading man material.

R13, who are your two favorite male actors at Scanavino's level?
by Anonymous | reply 14 | March 21, 2017 6:13 PM

I disagree with r13. I think he's handsome in a masculine, not pretty, way, and his body was made for slim fit clothing. Attractive man. Is he everyone's type? Probably not, but better looking than most guys.

I'll take Justin Bartha in The Good Fight over Scanavino any day. And Philip Winchester from Chicago Justice (though not my cup of tea in the looks department), is a far better actor than Scanavino. Not the most traditionally attractive man but is at least interesting on screen.

I'll take Justin Bartha over almost anyone, R16, including Scanavino, but Scanavino is no less attractive to me during those moments when I'm watching SVU. I didn't bother with The Good Fight. Maybe I'll play Rent-a-CBS-show when the series is over.

Understandable, r21, bless you for your contribution.
And for R7, I would say yes! I checked it out yesterday and it's an interesting little film. It does, however, have a certain meandering quality that may be a bit of an acquired taste, so just be warned that his character doesn't make an appearance until the second half of the film. He was excellent in the screen time he had, at any rate, and even had a couple nude scenes to boot. Will echo the disagreement with r13.

Scanavino is too young to have played Brian Kinney back in 2000. Justin Taylor was supposed to have been quite a bit younger than Kinney. It would never have worked and I'm not sure he'd have any chemistry with Randy Harrison.

I've been on DL for at least five years, and I've never seen anything anti-Italian or tinged with anti-Italian bigotry much less "rampant". I'm part Italian so that likely would have caught my eye. On the contrary, I've seen love and fondness for Italian culture, architecture, history and, yes, men. Perhaps I'm not reading the right threads. I admit I don't click on or get the food threads here.

Is anyone still watching SVU? Last night's ep was fairly decent, even if he didn't get much screen time.
Another disappointing week for Tumblr fans, I imagine. A number of them seem convinced that Carisi is at least bi and, given the subject matter, probably got their hopes up about this episode in particular.

When he came aboard SVU poor Danny Pino pushed aside. I always wondered what went down with that . It is like the writers hated Pino, because his character was basically destroyed thru the seasons.

This may actually win for Most Random Thread Ever on DL.
Let's unpack this:
What do we think about a casting decision that was made 17 years ago?
Was Scanavino actually up for the role and lost out to Harold, or did OP just decide to place him in the role? (IIRC, Harold was an unknown actor at the time who was a last-minute find, as few actors wanted to even audition.)
And if OP did in fact decide to randomly cast Peter Scanavino in a role, why Brian Kinney? Why QAF? Why not another crime drama?
[UPDATE: Googling reveals that Scanavino is 37, which would have made him 20 at the time QAF was cast, way too young to play Brian Kinney, who, IIRC, was supposed to be 30. Again, WTF, OP?]
Is OP Scanavino's agent?

Him and Raul Esparza are the only reasons to still watch. Not that Scanavino's a great actor, but he's at least a little bit different from what's been on SVU before. And legs for miles.

Peter Scanavino is cute, but he was way too young to play Brian on QAF. He was born in 1980 (he's actually three years younger than Randy Harrison) which made him 19/20 when QAF started casting. Brian was 30. That being said, Scanavino is a better actor than Gale Harold.
Just a side note, the issue with QAF was that very few agents allowed their clients to audition for the show which is why the principal cast was made up of unknown actors with slightly underdeveloped acting chops. Excluding Sharon Gless, the best performers in the main cast were Peter Page, Scott Lowell and Michelle Clunie. I actually think that the supporting cast (Uncle Vic, Justin's Mom, the cop Debbie dates later in the show) were all better performers...and the reason for that was the were all Canadian actors, and Canadian agents didn't have an issue with the show unlike American ones. So, it was easier to find strong talent in Toronto to play the bit parts.
