Gregory Peck, Farley Granger - Classic; Kane Richmand - obscure; Brad Pitt, Jude Law, and probably unpopular opinion Tom Cruise more recent (I cannot think of anyone right now who I think would be on top of a list, Chris Pratt and a few others can be good looking - but not beautiful).

4. Peter O'Toole
3. Sidney Poitier
2. John Phillip Law
1. Howard E. Rollins Jr. Between [italic] Ragtime[/italic] and [italic]A Soldier's Story,[/italic] he was the most heart-stoppingly beautiful man ever filmed. That skin! Those lips! Those eyes! Those hands! That voice! That laugh! That supremely confident masculinity! And that GQ cover? My God-- Idris Elba x 20. Sex on a fucking stick. And considering how utterly NELLY he was off camera, I marvel at his acting genius all the more. Hollywood fucked him over royally, and it's such a tragedy he took refuge in drugs. Hollywood and the closet are evil. I miss him all the time.
1st runner-up: Al Pacino.

Guy Madison is a movie actor of the 1940s who was stunning, and has a timeless quality about his looks. He was sex on legs. Is it true he was bisexual? and that his wife ( forget which actress it was) caught him in bed with another man?

Robert Conrad was a hot daddy in the seventies. He was in an episode of Columbo called 'An excercise in fatality' in which he appeared in several scenes topless or in short-shorts!

Cary Grant in Notorious
James Dean, particularly East of Eden
Montgomery Clift of course
Pretty boys Tab Hunter & pal Tony Perkins, Fabian, Troy Donahue, Ricky Nelson.

I wouldn't put him in a top 5, but Ray Liotta in his younger days deserves a mention. He had some of the most captivating, bedroom eyes I've ever seen on a guy. Gave him the impression of always being on the verge of tears.

199 lol Carbon Copy. We may have been the only two people here who have seen that. Although they actually played it quite a bit on cable in the 80s, so maybe not. Still, a pretty random movie other than it happened to be Denzel's first.

When the beauteous Charles Farrell opened his mouth (after 1929 and the advent of sound recording ), a "flapper purse" fell out. He was finished as a leading man pretty soon after.

R204, Charles Farrell's early talkies were actually quite popular, but his Boston Brahmin enunciations fell into disfavor when bad boys like Clark Gable and Jimmy Cagney and folksy midwesterners like Gary Cooper and Henry Fonda became romantic leads. Among these men, Farrell came across as effete.

MAE WEST once said that in her opinion, "GEORGE SEGAL is THE most attractive man I've seen in some time !"
IMO, SEGAL was very attractive but I wouldn't put him in the TOP 5.

...I thought George Segel hot too. Ruggedly so. A hairy sorta macho, not trying too hard, DILF. Handsome enough for leading man status. Gorge George, a victim of the times. Not too many can look good with frizzy-fro hair, bell-bottoms, clunky platforms/dutchboy clogs....Ewww. 70's fashions were the most unflattering, need a shower looking, unsexy, synthetic fabric.... Segel managed to remain fuckable. I get the George Segel sexy. Yeah...I drank the Koolaid.

SEGAL looked good up til about age 60. Even for an old guy, he's better looking than most.

I forgot about Ricky Nelson, r106! Soooo dreamy!
Okay, I've now got:
Montgomery Clift . ("Tell Mama; tell Mama everything.")
Tyrone Power. (Double rows of eyelashes!)
Alain Delon. (Male beauty epitomized.)
Ricky Nelson. (That mouth!)
Leonard Whiting. (For one brief moment in time, the most exquisite.)

Charles Farrell did make a fortune in Palm Springs real estate.

He's more TV than cinema, but 70s-era Mark Harmon was almost impossibly beautiful

Richard Barthelmess. Lillian Gish called him the most handsome man she had ever seen. In many younger photos, he's absolutely stunning.

I can't believe no one's mentioned the very modern and spectacular looking Gilbert Roland...one of Hollywood's best looking Latin types.
by Anonymous | reply 224 | August 14, 2016 9:01 AM |
I'm also surprised that I'm the first to mention Robert Taylor.
For pure mathematical perfection of facial proportions and refinement of features(which not everyone prefers) it's kind of hard to do better.

To me, Joel McCrea had one of the most most fetching profiles in cinema history.

Robert Taylor is like the male equivalent of Elizabeth Taylor.....porcelain skin, rosy cheeks, ebony hair, lush brows and lashes and eyes of deep azure blue.
His beauty didn't last long(none of the golden ages actor's did) but in his prime he was a knockout. If ANYBODY was born to play Dracula.

Widely considered Hollywood's first bona fide sex symbol,Sessue Hayakawa, certainly had the face and screen presence to deserve the title.

More noted for his work in television god-like Clint Walker DID make a number of feature films so I would unapologetically include him in any top 5 list I might compile.

I think Joel McCrea is one of the most under rated male stars of all time. Great comedic timing, pefrect tall lanky body for physical comedy, and smart enough to age into the Western roles as he aged. When asked, he would say he was a rancher. He owned thousands of acres in the valley and was one of the richest actors in Hollywood when he died. His father ran a utilities company so he knew where all the power and water was heading and bought all the land up. His best work was with Preston Sturges, Sullivan's Travels with Veronica Lake and The Palm Beach Story with Claudette Colbert.
