5 Most Beautiful Men in Cinema History

Gary Cooper

Laurence Olivier

Marlon Brando

Alain Delon

Mel Gibson

by Anonymousreply 246September 18, 2019 2:19 AM

I'd remove Mel Gibson and put Jude Law in just for "The Talented Mr. Ripley," alone.

Lists of men who are still alive and relevant, please.

by Anonymousreply 3August 5, 2016 6:12 PM

Paul Newman

Marlon Brando

Warren Beatty

Brad Pitt

Richard Gere

by Anonymousreply 4August 5, 2016 6:13 PM

Gregory Peck, Farley Granger - Classic; Kane Richmand - obscure; Brad Pitt, Jude Law, and probably unpopular opinion Tom Cruise more recent (I cannot think of anyone right now who I think would be on top of a list, Chris Pratt and a few others can be good looking - but not beautiful).

by Anonymousreply 5August 5, 2016 6:21 PM

Chris Hemsworth

Channing Tatum (ca Magic Mike 1 or before)

Zac Efron

Brenton Thwaites

Kalob Martinez

by Anonymousreply 6August 5, 2016 6:29 PM

John Gavin.

Rock Hudson.

Rupert Everett.

Leonard Whiting.

Sean Bean.

by Anonymousreply 7August 5, 2016 6:31 PM

Forgot about Hemsworth -- he would be on my modern list. Keanu back in the day would be up there as well as someone more recent.

by Anonymousreply 8August 5, 2016 6:34 PM

Rupert Graves.

by Anonymousreply 9August 5, 2016 6:35 PM

Like R2... Paul Newman.. Jeffrey Hunter...Gary Cooper...George Clooney...

by Anonymousreply 10August 5, 2016 6:36 PM

Henry Cavill should surely be on that list - dead or alive

by Anonymousreply 11August 5, 2016 6:36 PM

Jake Gyllenhaal. Yes.

Chris Hemsworth

Mel Gibson in his prime

Charlton Heston in his prime.

Montgomery Clift

Marlon Brando in his prime

Jude Law in his prime

John Gavin...but Christ he was awful as an actor

Michael Trevino

Shemar Moore

Boris Khojoe

Michael Ealy

by Anonymousreply 20August 5, 2016 7:04 PM

Jean Marais

Gerard Philipe

by Anonymousreply 21August 5, 2016 7:06 PM

Was just going to mention Buster Crabbe -- the old B movies and serials had some handsome actors. Kind of in that vein would also include Lex Baxter and Gordon Scott.

1. Howard E. Rollins Jr. Between [italic] Ragtime[/italic] and [italic]A Soldier's Story,[/italic] he was the most heart-stoppingly beautiful man ever filmed. That skin! Those lips! Those eyes! Those hands! That voice! That laugh! That supremely confident masculinity! And that GQ cover? My God-- Idris Elba x 20. Sex on a fucking stick. And considering how utterly NELLY he was off camera, I marvel at his acting genius all the more. Hollywood fucked him over royally, and it's such a tragedy he took refuge in drugs. Hollywood and the closet are evil. I miss him all the time.

1st runner-up: Al Pacino.

Guy Madison is a movie actor of the 1940s who was stunning, and has a timeless quality about his looks. He was sex on legs. Is it true he was bisexual? and that his wife ( forget which actress it was) caught him in bed with another man?

by Anonymousreply 113August 6, 2016 1:01 PM

I agree with R111.

by Anonymousreply 115August 6, 2016 1:17 PM

[quote]Do you really think Dolph qualifies as beautiful? I always view him as more oafish. Somewhat hot, but not beautiful by any stretch.

I agree with you, R116, there is a difference between being hot, being sexy, and being "beautiful."

Dolph reminds me of a shark.

Didn't Alain Delon say he thought gay couples shouldn't have/raise/adopt children? He's that guy, right?

by Anonymousreply 179August 11, 2016 6:09 PM

The homophobia is funny because he was gay for pay/roles in his younger days.....

Unsurprisingly.

He had a great body, and was undeniably sexy. But he was absolutely not beautiful.

TCM is doing a tribute to Janet Gaynor today, and my god, her frequent co-star Charles Farrell is divoon. Handsome man a great smile and tousled locks, looking very contemporary. Swoon.

Too bad that was the peak of his career. I remember seeing him in a tiny throwaway role on NCIS in its early seasons.

When the beauteous Charles Farrell opened his mouth (after 1929 and the advent of sound recording ), a "flapper purse" fell out. He was finished as a leading man pretty soon after.

by Anonymousreply 204August 13, 2016 6:45 PM

R204, Charles Farrell's early talkies were actually quite popular, but his Boston Brahmin enunciations fell into disfavor when bad boys like Clark Gable and Jimmy Cagney and folksy midwesterners like Gary Cooper and Henry Fonda became romantic leads. Among these men, Farrell came across as effete.

Not too many can look good with frizzy-fro hair, bell-bottoms, clunky platforms/dutchboy clogs....Ewww. 70's fashions were the most unflattering, need a shower looking, unsexy, synthetic fabric.... Robert Taylor is like the male equivalent of Elizabeth Taylor.....porcelain skin, rosy cheeks, ebony hair, lush brows and lashes and eyes of deep azure blue.

His beauty didn't last long(none of the golden ages actor's did) but in his prime he was a knockout. If ANYBODY was born to play Dracula.

I think Joel McCrea is one of the most under rated male stars of all time. Great comedic timing, pefrect tall lanky body for physical comedy, and smart enough to age into the Western roles as he aged. When asked, he would say he was a rancher. He owned thousands of acres in the valley and was one of the richest actors in Hollywood when he died. His father ran a utilities company so he knew where all the power and water was heading and bought all the land up. His best work was with Preston Sturges, Sullivan's Travels with Veronica Lake and The Palm Beach Story with Claudette Colbert.
