I've seen a couple of episodes of both when i was younger and remember enjoying Night Gallery more because it was more horror-based,0. But im going to get into one of the shows for now- from beginning to end. Which is better?
Twilight Zone vs The Night Gallery-which is better?

Love them both.

The Twilight Zone is better. The stories are not only science fiction........they had a "moral to the story" that really made you think and learn.

Did you know that Rod Serling used to write TV scripts for westerns?

The Night Gallery. More disturbing, twisted, imaginative. There are episodes I saw once and still remember to this day.

The Outer Limits was better than both.

OP, I liked better Twilight Zone for the same reason you loved Night Gallery: TZ was less rooted in horror. It was thought provoking and left an impression on my young psyche then.
I also have fond, somewhat uncomfortable memories of Tales of The Unexpected. As opposed to NG and TZ it wasn't about supernatural. Some of the episode left an indelible impression on the kid I was.

Twilight Zone was better overall, but Night Gallery had the only moment on TV that actually gave me nightmares.

I think they are apples and oranges--the black and white of TZ gave it a kind of uncanny quality and many scripts were written by or based on stories by superb writers. NG may have had a handful of really disturbing and chilling stories and a bit more sophisticated technology and narrative, but isn't as iconically frightening to me.

TWILIGHT ZONE was better overall, with more classic episodes, but I actually saw NIGHT GALLERY first as a kid, so it brings back fond memories of my childhood. Some terrific NIGHT GALLERY episodes too, and great guest-stars: Diane Keaton (in one of her earliest roles), Edward G. Robinson, Sondra Locke (her getting devoured by her brooch gave me nightmares!) Geraldine Page, Brandon deWilde, Barbara Steele, Patty Duke, Robert Morse, Sally Field, Lawrence Harvey, and the inimitable Kim Stanley.

Night Gallery got my vote

Twilight Zone, hand;s down...and I say that as someone who grew up LONG after both shows were done. It being black and white never bothered me. Same goes for Alfred Hitchcock presents. I think I was turned on to both of the shows by the (lesser) revivals in the 80s. It's also because of shows like that that my understanding of Roald Dahl was VERY different from my contemporaries...I didn't read the kids books until years later.

Twilight Zone had the most thought-provoking episodes. Night Gallery might have had better production values, but most of the eps were more like parodies of the "creepy" genre.
Alfred Hitchcock Presents and the original Outer Limits also had their moments in the TZ vein.

r9 I also saw Night Gallery first as a kid, they used to play it late at night on Friday/Saturday night. It freaked me out as a little kid and also remember watching The Reincarnation of Peter Proud and that scaring me.

The Twilite Zone is the golden standard of horror/sci-fi/ fantasy anthology shows. It’s the one all others are measured against. The Night Gallery has some good, creepy episodes but is , I don’t want to say dated, but very mod, very much rooted in the early 70’s, wheras TZ is absolutely iconic and timeless. I don’t really watch tv as I have thousands of dvds and blu-rays, but I remember the entire family being excited about the TZ marathons they would have every New Years while growing up and I would bet anything they’re still showing them. Night Gallery? Probably not so much. While everything is a matter of personal taste, NG just doesn’t have the same status and isn’t anywhere near as beloved as TZ. As far as the shows that were on at the same time that TZ was, such as Alfred Hitchcock presents, Outer Limits etc, I would say Thriller was probably the only one that was really up there with TZ, in my opinion. . Don’t get me wrong, I also love Alfred Hitcock presents and outer limits, but Thriller was not only hosted by the incomparable Boris Karloff, it had many truly creepy episodes. Even Stephen King said it was the best horror series ever put on tv. I have box sets of all 4 shows, and I reach for TZ and Thriller most often, though I do love them all.

I found Twilight Zone more memorable. I still get creeped out by Stopover In A Sleepy Town and After Hours.

Well, Twilight Zone was a good kisser, but a bit of a rabbit fucker. I mean, you could lead him around like a horse but drop that reign and he'll start galloping. I hope you understand the horse metaphor extends to his penis. Bigger isn't always better but his was definitely better.
But Night Gallery could fuck any which way. Toys, chains, and during the early 80's he didn't go anywhere without his sex dwarf. If you like roller coasters, and I do, Night Gallery is your ride. But there is no there there. I mean he is all there when it's fun games but do not attempt conversation. Not even about the weather. And he's practically a personal pharmacopia. So gifted in several ways, so bewildering at other times. The crazy does not stop.
Wait, isn't this the superheroes that you've fucked thread?

Boris Karloff's Thriller was better than The Outer Limits, and The Outer Limits was better than Night Gallery, and on the whole Night Gallery was better than The Twilight Zone.
But the best episode of any of them was "The Invaders" on The Twilight Zone, with Agnes Moorhead. It was never topped.
