Did Valerie Harper curse her? Why was she no Sandy Dennis?
Why did Sandy Duncan fail?

Glass eye haters gonna hate.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | July 6, 2016 6:21 PM |
She had the crossed eyes.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | July 6, 2016 6:24 PM |
A Wheat Thin addiction.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | July 6, 2016 6:26 PM |
Peter Pan was trans!
by Anonymous | reply 4 | July 6, 2016 6:27 PM |
She's no Mary Martin
by Anonymous | reply 5 | July 6, 2016 6:28 PM |
Did she do tampon commercials or am I misremembering?
by Anonymous | reply 6 | July 6, 2016 7:08 PM |
How can you have a show called Valerie's Family without Valerie?!
by Anonymous | reply 7 | July 6, 2016 7:33 PM |
I was the star.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | July 6, 2016 7:42 PM |
She had spunk. I hate spunk.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | July 6, 2016 7:52 PM |
She had major issues when sopranos hit a high note.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | July 6, 2016 7:57 PM |
Was it mostly liquid or mostly poopie?
by Anonymous | reply 11 | July 6, 2016 7:58 PM |
Well, her downfall could be attributed to always referring to Danny Ponce as "The Fat Mexican One."
by Anonymous | reply 12 | July 6, 2016 8:19 PM |
They had a perfectly fine blond on the show to take over.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | July 6, 2016 8:43 PM |
Why did Sandy Denny fall?
by Anonymous | reply 14 | July 6, 2016 8:46 PM |
The show was never called Valerie's Family. It was called Valerie and when she left, it was called The Hogan Family.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | July 6, 2016 8:50 PM |
R15, it was called Valerie's Family for one season, between Valerie and The Hogan Family.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | July 6, 2016 8:53 PM |
r16 exactly! People forget that. It was morbid and another "salt on the wounds" tactic by the show.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | July 6, 2016 9:01 PM |
Sandy's performance in "The $1,000,000 Duck" was most compelling.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | July 6, 2016 9:03 PM |
[quote] Well, her downfall could be attributed to always referring to Danny Ponce as "The Fat Mexican One."
Please. I taught that little wetback to easy pussy like a champ!
by Anonymous | reply 19 | July 6, 2016 9:03 PM |
She's no Karen Valentine.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | July 6, 2016 9:21 PM |
Poor Karen. But she's lucky that bus door closing on her face didn't poke one of her eyes out.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | July 6, 2016 9:27 PM |
TV Guide once proclaimed Sandy Duncan "The next Mary Tyler Moore".
by Anonymous | reply 22 | July 6, 2016 9:27 PM |
Sit on my Emmy, R-21.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | July 6, 2016 9:30 PM |
Sandy's career was never the same after showing her bare ass in primetime
by Anonymous | reply 24 | July 6, 2016 9:33 PM |
It always bothered me that they used her to play Peter Pan. Really? You couldn't find a young male actor? Very confusing for a young gay man. So if I wont grow up I will be a little girl with a glass eye?
by Anonymous | reply 25 | July 6, 2016 9:33 PM |
She was wonderful in "Peter Pan" I sneaked into the 2nd half of the Broadway show 23 times ~ there was nobody sitting in the balcony. She did a mean "Ug Ug a Wog".
by Anonymous | reply 26 | July 6, 2016 9:33 PM |
The trans loved it r25, and that's all that matters.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | July 6, 2016 9:34 PM |
Celiac.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | July 6, 2016 9:34 PM |
You're all just jealous, Davy Jones never sang a song especially for you.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | July 6, 2016 9:36 PM |
What did Sandy think of Alison "Rim Job" Williams as Peter Pan?
by Anonymous | reply 30 | July 6, 2016 9:41 PM |
I've no idea if Sandy Duncan "failed" or if she just didn't keep going after role after role after role and decided, instead, to sit back and enjoy life and work when she wanted.
She was a guest star on an episode of Law & Order and she was so good. I always hoped she'd be an infrequent guest after the episode, the way Elaine Stritch or Tovah Felshuh were... strong and successful lawyer going up against Waterson's Jack McCoy.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | July 6, 2016 10:07 PM |
I've played Peter Pan. And I played a Soviet athlete on The Six Million Dollar Man. And I jumped and flipped and scooted all over the place for grapefruit juice. I PERSONIFIED Patty Duke's line about hot dogs only for me it was something much healthier.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | July 6, 2016 10:07 PM |
I did the same - Gymkata
by Anonymous | reply 33 | July 6, 2016 10:13 PM |
R26, did you learn second acting from Lucy Ricardo when she strolled back into the theater during "Most Happy Fella?"
by Anonymous | reply 34 | July 6, 2016 10:43 PM |
It was not a glass eye, folks. It was a blind eye. And I'm turning a blind eye to this whole conversation. I WILL NEVER FAIL.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | July 6, 2016 10:46 PM |
Op, you know Sandy Duncan?
by Anonymous | reply 36 | July 6, 2016 10:49 PM |
r12
You mean the "gay one" Danny was cute.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | February 26, 2018 6:08 PM |
Kids, you could do a lot worse than Sandy Duncan’s career.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | February 26, 2018 6:30 PM |
Love this thread. the immortal Sandy. It makes me want to run off and join a traveling production of "The King and I."
by Anonymous | reply 39 | February 26, 2018 6:32 PM |
R38 How?
by Anonymous | reply 40 | February 26, 2018 6:38 PM |
I've liked her over the years. She didn't fail. She stayed working for over 40 years. She started out doing commercials, and became more know for a commercial for Skinny Dip Cologne.
She had a great, under-appreciated role in "Roots" playing Missy Ann opposite Leslie Uggams as Kizzy.
Over the years she stayed busy doing a combination of movies, television and theater. She did the game show circuit appearing on Hollywood Squares and others. The Hogan Family had a good run for a sitcom. She was very likeable.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | February 27, 2018 2:59 AM |
How did she fail exactly?
by Anonymous | reply 42 | August 18, 2018 8:21 PM |
Her water cup scene in Roots is one of the most seminal in television history. She was Emmy-nominated for it and should have won.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | August 18, 2018 8:30 PM |
Peter Pan has ALWAYS been portrayed by women, R25. Ever since Maude Adams.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | August 18, 2018 8:32 PM |
[quote]r20 She's no Karen Valentine.
At least I had a f-ing CHIN.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | August 18, 2018 8:37 PM |
She is awesome.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | August 18, 2018 10:43 PM |
Valerie also got Wendy Schaal removed from It's A Living
by Anonymous | reply 47 | June 8, 2020 6:37 PM |
It was her nudes in Playboy.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | June 8, 2020 6:48 PM |
R47
How did Valerie connect to "It's A Living"?
by Anonymous | reply 49 | June 8, 2020 8:14 PM |
She never changed her look and always played happy go lucky.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | June 8, 2020 8:19 PM |
One of my friends and I used to keep a running list of "Actresses We Are Worried About" (for not getting enough work, or their due, or both). Meredith Baxter Birney was always at the top of my list, and Sandy Duncan was at the top of his. I at least got a bit of relief when MBB came out; one literally hears nothing about Sandy Duncan at all. It does appear on IMDB that she did two eps of 'SVU' in 2014/2015, though.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | June 8, 2020 8:48 PM |
Since someone saw fit to resurrect this thread...
I'd just like to echo R31 about her guest stint on L&O. She really was great and I also hoped she would reappear as a repeat character, of which there were many. She was great and the character was great.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | June 8, 2020 10:20 PM |
She was a blonde Karen Valentine.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | June 9, 2020 5:36 PM |
It's L&S not L&O
by Anonymous | reply 54 | June 19, 2020 3:41 AM |
I always keep an eye out for ol' Sandy!
by Anonymous | reply 55 | June 19, 2020 3:45 AM |
