When men walk around with baseball caps on, what's the point? As they shielding themselves from the sun? Are the covering up their uncombed hair?
What's the point of a baseball cap?

by Anonymous | reply 7 | June 13, 2016 8:21 PM |
I think for a lot of guys it started in college. You roll out of bed with no time for a shower and throw on a hat to hid the bed head. I always wear a hat when I am outside in the summer. More often a wide brimmed or floppy hat to protect my ears from the sun but sometimes a baseball hat.

Strange sometimes you watch on xtube or tumblr real-life gay orgies (homemade movies) and there are always guys wearing a baseball cap while they are fucking or getting fucked. They are completely nude except the baseball cap. Strange.

If you are bald/balding or shave your head, you know that there are few things worse than a sunburned head. My guess is that most of the guys wear them for protection, and aren't trying to hide anything.

My husband is bald and wears one to keep the sun from broiling his scalp in summer. He's not a hipster, so he can't wear a fedora. He's not an elderly effem.inate, so he can't wear a Panama or a straw boater.

I've got a bald spot, and a head-covering of some kind protects my bald spot from the sun which directly shines onto it (I'm of Northern European descent and burn very easily). I don't give a shit who sees my bald spot or not, and never wear a cap indoors. My alternative to a baseball cap would be to wear an enormous picture hat outdoors.

by Anonymous | reply 40 | July 1, 2016 4:55 PM |
The brim of the cap is a good eyeshade. Also, even if you have a full head of hair, the sun can penetrate your hair and dry out (and even, with prolonged exposure, sunburn) your scalp. Sometimes as an alternative I wear a Breton fisherman's cap, which is like a watch cap (stretchy, no brim) but made from a soft striped cotton fabric. It probably looks gay, but it's comfortable.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | July 1, 2016 4:58 PM |

How dense can you be to ask this question? Jeebus! It is simply one the few interesting male accessories We have very few of them as it is you know (compared to the ladies that have way to many). If memory serves correctly, baseball caps as full-time adornment became popular in the early 1990s. It surprised me that guys were wearing them all the time - not just when playing sports - and even indoors. It seemed anachronistic. At the beginning it definitely had a fratty-bro vibe to it, but quickly became normcore.
I've had countless blowjobs from guys for whom I've had to turn or remove the cap because the brim gets in the way (of my 3" cock lol). Usually the guys are bald(ing). I don't care, and wish they didn't either. Vanity in a man is a turnoff for me.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | July 1, 2016 6:15 PM |
Guy's wear ballcaps for aesthetic purposes too, it's not just about some thinly veiled attempt to cover up their perceived baldness, or other supposed insecurities. Plus there were times when I was younger, and had to wear a hat at work, where I would sport a ballcap when I would go out to the bars later on, simply because I had "hat head" and didn't have time to go home and wash and style it out.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | July 1, 2016 6:40 PM |
Like many others, I occasionally wear one to cover up bed head. But I NEVER wear it backwards. Are you a professional Major League Baseball catcher? Then you may wear it backwards. Riding a bike but forgot your helmet? Fine, you can wear it backwards to keep it from blowing off. But, like R48, I deduct IQ points for any other backwards baseball cap. Because I can smell the douche-bro fumes from here.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | July 1, 2016 6:52 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 74 | July 2, 2016 12:37 AM |
The oversize caps are huge with young folks because it is associated with hip hop and therefore considered cool
by Anonymous | reply 75 | July 2, 2016 12:42 AM |
I think it's just part of American male culture. It def kind of has a frat/bro-ish thing going on with it.
But I've never gotten the whole cocking it to one side, or wearing it backward...other than the 'look' it gives. I mean, kind of defeats the purpose of the bill right?
by Anonymous | reply 76 | July 2, 2016 12:46 AM |
Didn't hip-hop culture kind of make it more of a fashion 'thing' than baseball itself ever did, so maybe that's why so many guys so easily adopt it? Hip-hop/urban culture has had a huge influence on overall American male culture and masculinity, so maybe it has something to do with that...
by Anonymous | reply 77 | July 2, 2016 12:48 AM |
Yeah, hip hop has really made it even more widespread and "hip." Also, hip hop features "fitted caps." A lot of dudes collect caps, like sneakers.

Gawd, I had great hair, and in the early 90's it was down past my shoulder blades. I occasionally wear a baseball cap because I'm light skinned, and live in the tropics, But overall, I dislike having anything on my head, including eye glasses. Perhaps I should wear one more often, and sunglasses, just because we're on camera everywhere we go.

Only on DL would a baseball cap be described as distinctly "masculine" apparel. Didn't you boys ever hear of softball-playing lesbians??
I have a huge selection of baseball caps, many of them souvenirs from places I've been. I've worn single every one of them at least once, even the "novelty" ones (like the one with a fish head on the front and the tail on the back). I love hats in general, but baseball caps are easy to accumulate, and they don't need any care like "real" hats do.
My-ex-the-cop used to tell me I look terrible in hats. I don't care. Now that I'm old, I'll wear whatever I like.
by Anonymous | reply 91 | July 6, 2016 3:29 AM |
Softball playing lesbians ARE masculine.
by Anonymous | reply 92 | July 6, 2016 3:33 AM |
My hair is thinning on top enough that sunburn can happen. I have no actual bald spot, and I don't cover my head when I'm not out in enough sun to burn me, so I don't use hats to pretend that my hair isn't thinning. But, when needed, a ball cap protects the top of my head and forehead from scorching. It's a practical choice, not a vain choice.

I am losing my hair so I wear one if I am going to be outside all day in the sun. But never backwards or in the house, and not the square style Trump Chinese made kind. I am not trying to hide anything but that said, I am one of those guys that good in hats. Not all guys look good in hats. When I had a lot of hair, I always got complements. Even now, without fishing for a complement, people tell me I look good in a hat. So for me, its also sometimes a fashion complement. In the winter, its also good to keep the rain off my face without having to hold an umbrella.

You guys saying lesbian softball players are "masculine" aren't the same ones who are saying that gender is a social construct, are you? Let me say this again: there is no such thing as "masculine" and feminine" in that sense. If I am a woman and I do something, by definition, what I'm doing is feminine because I have a uterus, fallopian tubes, and a vagina.
I don't understand how you guys can't put together your "cutting off your penis doesn't make you a woman" argument with your "some lesbians are masculine and some gayboys are feminine." That's the whole point of the anti-trans argument: Just because a boy does something society decides is "feminine" doesn't make him a girl. That's because it's SOCIETY that's deciding the definitions of femininity and masculinity.
This is Feminism 101, guys. A baseball cap is NOT "masculine" or even male attire unless there's a place to put a penis.
by Anonymous | reply 109 | July 7, 2016 12:16 PM |
Lame argument r109, replace baseball cap with a dress and see what you get. So if a straight guy wears a dress (not a kilt, I mean a full on flowery dress) its not considered feminine clothing because a mans is wearing it?
Caps are Masculine, Dresses are Feminine. Deal with it.

I agree that a cap looks good on some guys and not others - just like any other fucking piece of clothing. I started wearing them in college. My hair is wavy, has a lot of body and needs product to look good. This being the case - it looks like a bird's nest when I wake up, after swimming, after riding in a convertible with the top down... If I don't feel like taking a shower and re-styling it - the cap works wonders. I have a beard, hairy chest and arms and by most accounts - I am quite masculine. The cap looks good on me while all other hats look terrible. I plan to wear caps forever and have zero concern about how stylish I am or am not while doing so.

Most guys start wearing hats when we are kids. I played Little League baseball and continued thru college. Also my Dad had season tickets to the Red Sox for years and our family still has those tickets. But it was a show of support for sports, our home team and more so a great way for boys & their Dads to bond. That's how wearing hats start for most guys...as kids. Even most bald guys will tell you they wore hats long before they were bald or worries about sun screening. It's only in more recent yrs that it's become more about a fashionable to throw a hat on. Yes it's easier to not do your hair on a lazy day and put a ball cap on. And we know that urban culture has their own spin on hats from the way they grew up too. Most of my gay friends (male and female) say they wear hats because they think it makes them look more masculine not because of any affiliation to a sports team. So everyone has different reasons for wearing hats but most guys start wearing ball caps as kids & sports fans!

Um, R24, you seem to have poor reading comprehension. I did not make any comment about how anyone "should dress" or "judge a man by his underwear." My exact post was "No guy looks good wearing superman panties. He looks like a clown." He can wear, or not wear, whatever he wishes. Makes no difference to me. I was merely posting an opinion of how silly it looks when grown men wear child-like cartoon underwear. It is silly and looks stupid. Did I make any comment about the appearance of the man himself? Nope. He looks like a hot dude who is wearing a childish costume.
You, however, implied I "must be fat and ugly" simply because I expressed an opinion about grown men wearing superman panties. Talk about princess attitude. Look in the mirror.

I'm a woman with a thick head of hair, so no bald spot to cover. I wear one when I run, garden, or drive topless (the car, not me).
I use it for the sole purpose of tucking my hair behind my ears and holding my hair off of my face. Then I immediately take it off because I think I look like an asshole.
by Anonymous | reply 152 | July 15, 2016 8:22 PM |
No you dont look like an asshole R152, you look like a budding tom boy like Joe from Facts of Life. Lesbians love the baseball cap like they love a lot of masculine clothing. Its the whole weird butch Lesbian thing. Its an odd because its not mirrored on the other side with gay men. It's rare that a highly fem guy would be chased after like a prize.
by Anonymous | reply 153 | July 16, 2016 5:39 AM |
Old gay men wear them because they think it hides the fact they're balding from the young tops they want to date.
Young gay men wear them because they see straight men wearing them and think it projects a masculine image.
Straight men wear them because their friends do.
by Anonymous | reply 154 | July 16, 2016 6:18 AM |
Old gay men ware them because you head will burn in the sun, most guys will lose some or most of their hair as they age so it really just a practicality thing. Baseball caps are easy to wash and cheap to replace. Fancy hats are not. Quit projecting your daddy fantasies onto older man.
by Anonymous | reply 155 | July 16, 2016 6:37 AM |
My roommate wears them coz his hair is greasy, hasn't washed or showered and needs to go out for errands etc. He hides his dirty unwashed hair in baseball cap.

Any dermatologist will tell you a hat will help prevent skin cancer especially if you're bald or have thinning hair. If the brim is worn in the front, it also helps to shield your face from the effects of sun damage.

Jeez, dont any of you twinks know the difference between fashion terms you are so obsessed with other people breaking? There are Fads, Trends, and Classics. Fads come and go, Trends are a general movement, classics are always in style. A black suite is a classic as are jeans, t-shirts and a baseball cap.

I played baseball and softball when I was younger, and yes, we wore baseball caps, since you were expected to be a trooper, and you might be playing in the rain (you wouldn't call a game for rain, unless there was lightning) and you needed to shield your eyes from the rain, or when it was sunny, you work it forwards or backwards depending on the angle of the sun. They're very practical, and now that I'm older and don't play sports, I wouldn't mind owning one now for the rare times I need to leave the house when I haven't washed my hair. It’s interesting, I have fallen down the rabbit hole of Chaturbate this summer and by far two fan favorites are these two, for the most part, ordinary looking mid America dad guys who both wear ball caps, but seem to have ravenous followers. The interesting thing is that it’s not just gay men who worship at their alters when them come on, but also straight guys who elevate these two to god like levels.
Not their full handles, but one is golfman and the other is markymark. I really think it’s their baseball caps that some how make them captivating and objects of fetishnistic admiration. Golfman plays cool detached dudebro who is looking to flash trade with any of the few girls on cam who wander into his room. He gets the eager men to go to her room and tip to talk her into flashing her breasts or something else.
He will then reciprocate by lifting his shirt up exposing his chest, opening his shorts, pulling down his madras boxers and showing dick for about 30 seconds with the most natural bush I’ve seen since the 70s.
He accepts tips, but rarely acknowledges them or even admonishes those guys who give them. He seems to ignore the overwhelming and over the top sexually charged fawning compliments about how hot he is, what an amazing body/dick he has and what an excellent fucker he must be. Yet, you can tell he’s subtlety getting off on it. And again, many of those come from self confessed straight guys, who say they never look at other guys, but that there is something special about him, true bromance.
Markymark is on the silent side too, but much more willing to play and has a menu of items he will do accordingly including suck a dildo and finger his hole. He broadcasts from his man cave with sports paraphernalia on the walls and rarely will be without his cap, even when naked, and many times backwards. He, even more than golfman, are the most ordinary of looking men, but it’s like those ball caps give them magical powers to seduce even straight guys. And the viewers go absolutely ballistic for them.
In all Chaturbate is the most intriguing of sociological experiments and I find myself captivated by watching the models and how people interact with them. I will say that there are some pretty cool and amazing straight guys, who as a group never held that much interest to me before, but I’ve grown to enjoy interacting with them.

Not surprising that baseball caps would be a fetish object for some of the under 40 (or so) set -- caps are heavily associated with pretty well all the virile young male social scenes, since the 90s and the rise of hip hop culture. Other end of the spectrum, they're associated with hot redneck guys, too. They suggest a sort of insouciant, casual, confident masculinity, through the cultural associations that have buil;t up around them for decades, even going back to pre-1970s, when they were associated with actual baseball heroes.

According to the researchers, the study has exposed a potential threat to the privacy and safety of gay men and women around the world, as governments and corporations are already developing and deploying facial recognition technologies designed to predict things like the likelihood of committing a crime or being a paedophile.“

I wear a hat because I’m losing my hair and got sunburned a few times. Also, have an ugly shaped head that my hair no loner covers. I take it off as soon as I get home. Prefer wearing a flat hat in the winter.

Baseball caps don't have points. I bet the OP's cap is cone shaped.

Really? Someone had to bump this AGAIN? It's really becoming dull around here again!

Not for deplorables.

My reason for wearing a baseball cap is to shield my eyes from the sun.
I do not wear a baseball cap at night unless it is raining as I wear prescription glasses and don’t want to get raindrops on the lenses.
by Anonymous | reply 308 | July 2, 2020 7:53 AM |
Avoid getting sunburned. Not bald, but light skin/hair, live in a sunny region. Keeps sun out of my eyes, rain off the glasses. And, occasionally, I'm just too fucking lazy to deal with my hair. Never wear a hat of any sort indoors, though.

Okay did OP direct this question toward elderly men? The answers here are not indicative of why most mainstream young guys wear caps
by Anonymous | reply 310 | July 2, 2020 1:00 PM |
I don't wear em as a general rule. Oh no I'm in my 50's and still have a full head of hair. When it gets longer as it is now because I'm going nowhere near a hair salon, it gets curly/wavy.
Another thing I've noticed is guys wearing those toques - I assume it's to cover messy hair. Hair isn't fun to take care of btw.

What's the point of a tie? To make you feel like you're about to choke all day?
I think all of it's just fashion, like long painted fingernails on women (ugh)

As a man with a bald spot, I can say I sometimes wear mine to protect myself from the sun--with a bald spot, I need to avoid sunburn.

The kweens who wear a baseball cap to look all masculine might as wear wear pink Fascinators for all the good it does. Because they're fooling only themselves.
by Anonymous | reply 321 | February 4, 2022 12:38 PM |
I dunno. It tends to enhance masculinity. A guy will look more masculine in a baseball cap than he will without one, but it’s just one piece of the puzzle to exuding masculinity. Wearing a baseball cap won’t extinguish other characteristics, just enhance whatever else is masculine about the person

The ones I don't get are the ones who wear them backwards, especially tennis players who are always in the sun - isn't that defeating the point? But if it's because they're balding, okay.. maybe tell them that balding is an indicator of higher testosterone though.
by Anonymous | reply 323 | February 4, 2022 2:15 PM |
I don't know why but when I see a guy walking around in a bar or bathhouse even wearing a cap- it makes me more attracted to them.
by Anonymous | reply 324 | February 4, 2022 2:23 PM |
It’s the association with athleticism and masculinity

Men should wear whatever they want on their heads, regardless of what some fag on DL thinks. Nobody needs to justify their clothing or accessories to anyone.
by Anonymous | reply 330 | February 13, 2022 6:56 AM |
Some people just like the way they look.
Yes, some people (including me) wear them to cover up messy hair. Or balding or baldness, and that extends to looking younger. A lot of people look younger when they cover up their hair/hairline.
Some (not including me) wear branded ones to broadcast their sports cult or a designer brand—Gucci sells baseball caps for $300-$400.
And again, some just like the way they look. Everything clotheswise is not utilitarian, and especially accessories. Tophats and bolero hats were worn for style. Wigs are worn to cover baldness or messy hair. Rings are worn to show wealth, marital status or just for style. Necklaces are worn to show wealth, style or religious tribal membership. Fake fingernails and eyelashes have no practical use. People wear scarves to stay warm or just for 'flair.' Shoes can be made for function or they can inhibit function for the sake of style. I don't know why a baseball cap needs to be the one accessory that should be exclusively worn for function.

I can quickly list 10 reasons men wear baseball caps. What a pity that OP is an idiot. A good troll in 2016, though.

[quote]As they shielding themselves from the sun?
Yes. Baseball caps have front brims that extend far past the face. This provides effective shade from sunlight for the eyes. Caps with shorter brims aren't effective shade providers.
[quote]Are the covering up their uncombed hair?
Also yes. Baseball caps are usually adjustable and can accommodate unkempt hair easily. Since, as fashion, they are considered very casual "streetwear," they help pull together an acceptable outfit for appearing in public while not fully groomed.
As others have noted, they are also effective for covering bald heads, and hiding baldness. As both athletic gear and a fashion accessory associated with youth, they can provide an illusion of virility and strength that some believe offsets signs of aging and diminished physical capacity.
Baseball caps are headwear that provide protection from the elements (sunlight in this case) and an acceptable head covering that may serve many different functions for different wearers in different circumstances. As such, they're no different than any other head covering.
Have we answered all of your questions, OP? Is there anything else we can help you with?

OP is being obtuse

I always found it laughable how Tony Orlando and others of his desperate little ilk wore FDNY or NY baseball caps in their post 9/11 interviews that had nothing to do with 9/11 (they had nothing to promote so they created some shit and bugged media to interview them so they could show their hollow support without having contributed one dime to any relief fund or any profit from their shit product to any relief fund). Virtue signalling at its most revolting.
by Anonymous | reply 339 | April 1, 2022 12:34 PM |
Virtue signaling? No, I think it’s more of a show of support

Baseball caps are to prevent men like my dad from wearing a rolled up brown paper bag on their head when they mow the lawn or do other yard work.
Yes, I shared this bit of embarrassment in another tread.
