At age 71, he got behind on payments for his Manhattan apartment and the city Marshall's arrived to evict him. As they drilled his door to gain entrance, he committed suicide in the bedroom with a gunshot to his head.

You should inquire about the travel. Now, I have zero info, but from going to CHILLER for years I was lead to believe the entrance fee (this year between $35 & $40 per person just to walk in the door) was to help the celebs in travel. The hotel benefits from being sold out and all the food the guests would buy all weekend. I could be completely wrong but it can't hurt to ask.

The Chiller convention has moved away from horror in more recent years. They'll apparently take anyone semi famous that they think would help turn a profit for them. Eric is certainly more known than some of the people they've booked.
