I loved the path her career was taking with Velvet Rope – introspective, great songs and videos. It was an amazing album. But then she went back to seeking full commercial chart success with All for You and she kept pushing the sex kitten theme even though it had become tired. It came to a head with the Super Bowl. She exposed her nipples at the wrong time and at the wrong event. Everyone thinks of Nipplegate when they think of Janet. Which is a shame because Control, Rhythm Nation 1814, janet and Velvet Rope are all amazing albums. I think Jermaine Dupri killed her career honestly, and her strained relationship with Virgin by the time All For You came around. She started dating Jermaine in 2001 when the album came out, and she probably took too much career advice from him. All For You was a great album that suffered from poor single selection from Virgin. It fell down the charts shortly after the first single. After All For You, Janet disappeared for two years and returned with lackluster Damita Jo and Nipplegate. There was no way she would recover.

She used to be great, but she lost it somewhere along the way. Control is still one of my favorite albums.

The music video is also dead and it benefited pop acts who can dance more then they can sing. If the music video was still alive Ciara would have become a bigger star then she is now.
