Unsolved murders/true crime
Which unsolved murders/true crime cases intrigue you?
The identity of the Zodiac killer intrigues me. I know there are a lot of people who claimed that their dad or step-dad was the Zodiac killer but they do not actually offer any proof.
The West Mesa murders in New Mexico also intrigue me but I used to live in ABQ.

Zodiac Killer was William Mentzer, bodyguard to the stars, body guard to Larry Flynt at the time of Mentzer's arrest in 83 or 84.
McMartin preschool ritual abuse was real, but the number of victims was exaggerated by over-eager child psychologists.
Son of Sam murders were a satanic group, not Berkowitz alone. Son of Sam cult was part of same organization as William Mentzer/Zodiac.
Many of the mass murderers were probably part of psychological operation to terrify US public. It was Operation Phoenix in Vietnam, coming home after the war and using the same tactics in coordination with the CIA's Project Chaos.

R8, the Atlantic city perp is not the Long Island Serial Killer.
The LISK worked craigslist but he also worked Times Square area outside of his office building of Citibank. He roofied women. He laced their coffee he would buy for them from the deli on the north corner across from his office.

Datalounge has figured out who EONS is on an old thread re: Michelle McNamara who dubbed him the Golden State Killer. She recently passed away. She couldn't figure it out on her own.
People here put it together especially with his likeness to K.Cameron, Titanic producer. Her input with his ranch hand knots and DL's suggestions that he stole pennies used in horse watering troughs. Someone else here (last summer) connected him through the millionaire who developed the housing development in which he stalked. The developer owned a horse ranch and wasn't a hands on father. Find the thread and do the math.

Because we have one obsessive DLer who constantly starts these fucking threads (among others) and we have several DL regular nuts who feed her obsession. It's an unfortunate cycle that will continue until the obsessive gets banned or finds another group to harass/bore with her obsessions.
I don't think she really gives a fuck about forensic psychology or serial killers. It's just one of the few subjects where she can pretend she's not a moron and it's one where she can get other people to actually talk to her even if it's just in passing.
It's sad, obviously, but she's such an aggressive, obnoxious cunt that it's hard to feel pity for her.

I looked up the ACSK case and came upon a blog by some woman who swears her ex friend is the killer. R66, I'm R9 and I know flight 800 was a missile shot from a raft with an outboard motor. The witnesses interviewed by the local news crews all said the same thing and I viewed it live. I'm on Long Island. Everyone interviewed saw a rocket ascend and were waiting for the firework burst to follow. Following the disaster, local fire crews and police were blocked off and feds were crawling everywhere.

R96, she couldn't piece facts together..instead obsessing with cufflinks and an old detective. Please, people here pieced that case together and then she went and tried to claim credit for it last summer. Unknown to her, some people here contacted SF authorities with the theory while also contacting her. R96, everyone agreed with Michelle as her astute observation of the ranch hand knots but they took it further because they were west coast and knew who the developer was in the neighborhood. They also figured out why he stole pennies. Pennies are used as copper supplements in horse troughs at ranches. So while she caught the significance of the ranch hand knots people here went with it and filled in the missing pieces. Problem for her is that she didn't want to share credit with Datalounge sleuthers. Got caught trying to take credit and therefore didn't finish her investigation and spiraled down into a wicked depression. Her shame of being caught out by SF authorities was her downfall. They viewed her as opportunistic and loathsome. That's the fucking truth.

The DL did it Not Websleuths but DL. There are a lot of morons posting here and a lot of wise, logical thinking people. DL solved that case. The authorities are trying to guarantee a conviction before indictment and conviction. The perp is a millionaire so it's more of a challenge. They know who he is now all b/c some DLer was wise enough to tell us who the father was who developed that neighborhood. Then they found out he had a horse ranch. Was Shannan Gilbert a victim of the LISK? Or a woman who was manic, on drugs, scared, and who drowned in a marsh?

The Bricca family murders in Cincinnati 1966. It will be 50 years this September. A veterinarian was the chief suspect and he alluded police for years because he would not submit to a second interview. Apparently he was not advised of his rights during the 1st one and the case was never solved, no one was brought to trial. The Vet was having an affair with the Mother, a beautiful 25 year old Linda Bricca. Look it up on Google...it veers into a netherworld of the Zodiac Killer possibly being involved, and other murders unsolved in Chicago just weeks before.

Queen City Gothic is an excellent book about murder cases in Cincinnati from the late 19th century to the early 70's. I think the man who wrote the book is family.

R123, how do I know the true identities of the 'Zodiac Killer'? As I mentioned in R118, I received inside information from a source who developed a track record *over a period of years* of providing accurate and reliable information.
My source died in 2010, but from 1999 to 2009 he told me all kinds of things that the public is not supposed to know. If I shared that information here, many of the smaller minds at DL would call me a liar, so I wonder if I should bother.
About the 'Zodiac' killings:
1.) It was a government covert operation.
2.) There were TWO killers, both of them were cops. They did not do the killings together, one of them did *some* of the killings, while 'Killer #2' did some of the others.
I got to know my source well over a period of several years. I met him in person, and visited his home. I have no doubt that the information he gave me was truthful and accurate.

^^^^'Killer #1' did some of the killings, while 'Killer #2' did the rest [I made a mistake when I said that 'Killer #2' did *some* of the other killings].

r132, did your inside source also tell you about Amal Clooney's ISIS connection?
Did it ask you to sing at the airport? Did you LOL and modestly confess you weren't a singer?
Did your source give you shitty shoes in Vegas?

I have a serious question for the True Crime enthusiasts, and it's this: Could you dismember a human corpse if you had to? Cut it into pieces small enough to be portable and disposable?
The question of whether this takes special training has arisen in both murder mysteries and certain true crime cases, there are cases where some people insist the killer had to be a doctor or a butcher. But I'm neither a doctor nor a butcher and I'm pretty sure I could take a corpse to pieces without much trouble, IMHO my good butcher's cleaver and a basic understanding of human anatomy ought to be enough.

I wouldn't have the stomach for it. I think most people would not be very good at it but I suppose butchers, hunters and surgeons would have an easier time with it. It adds an extra level of depravity to the crime. I am not sure a person with a conscience could handle it.

I'm wondering how the person who supposedly knows who the LISK is escaped and is still alive as well?
Or the person who claimed to know about who some other serial killer is and they supposedly contacted the police who did nothing about what they said, escaped as they wrote about in this thread?

Everyone was freaked out .
Speaking of missing , I doubt they're ever gonna find Jimmy Hoffa.

Berry Louis Cannon (March 22, 1935 – February 17, 1969) was an American aquanaut who served on the SEALAB II and III projects of the U.S. Navy. Cannon died of carbon dioxide poisoning while attempting to repair SEALAB III. It was later found that his diving rig's baralyme canister, which should have absorbed the carbon dioxide Cannon exhaled, was empty.
According to John Piña Craven, the U.S. Navy's head of the Deep Submergence Systems Project of which SEALAB was a part, SEALAB III had been "plagued with strange failures at the very start of operations". According to Craven, while the other divers were undergoing the weeklong decompression, repeated attempts were made to sabotage their air supply by someone aboard the command barge. Eventually, a guard was posted on the decompression chamber and the men were recovered safely. A potentially unstable suspect was identified by the staff psychiatrist but the culprit was never prosecuted. Craven suggests this may have been done to spare the Navy bad press so soon after the USS Pueblo incident. As a result, it has been suggested that Cannon's death was a murder.

R7 and r9, please do some independent research before criticizing. Maury Terry's book clearly shows that "Son of Sam" was more than one person (eyewitness police sketches varied significantly), and notes how all the shootings were by bright lights (the better for filming).

Well, this was before DNA, when serial killings were harder to solve. I seriously doubt he is in a psychiatric hospital, I think it's more likely he's in jail for another offense.

Only in response to r163 -- chiming in with them, a colleague of mine once opined that he thought he knew who the other guy was, and talked to me at length about it.
I can't remember the suspect's (for lack of a better way of putting it) name (as shorthand for the guy, my pal always used "secret Son of Sam" in private conversation with me, as we share a morbid sense of humor), but if memory serves, he's still alive, he's Hispanic, and he's got money and power -- he was the heir of something big, a wine company I think, and had lots of banking and government connections. He once had a taste for entertainment, went to school with my colleague, and threw 1.5 mil in goods/services/cash at his early work, but on another occasion, he pointed a gun directly at my then-late-teens colleague's forehead, so six of one, half-a-dozen of the other; the guy's personality can best be described as Richard Ramirez on crack. Had a big hang-up about the mental health industry too.
During the Summer of Sam, there were several occasions when my colleague remembers watching or listening to an initial news report about one of the murders, and this guy would then show up shortly thereafter -- to a business meeting, hang-out, whatever -- in a distressed or disturbed state (sweaty, breathless, unfocused, etc.) not inconsistent with that of someone who had been involved with some serious shit, and he began to get suspicious, especially when he saw the composite sketch of the killer. (He once showed me a photograph of this guy as well, and it looked more like the police drawing than David Berkowitz ever did.) But he could never prove it.

My theory about what happened to Maura Murray is that some psycho just happened to be driving by, saw a crime of opportunity, and grabbed her. The police dogs lost her scent in the middle of the road, so she was likely forced into a vehicle. Sad, sad story.
