....Pin Curls and Dippity-Do

I've always had a fetish for curly hair, and I've always wanted curly hair....so on a whim, I stopped at Walgreens on my way home and bought Dippity-Do and some bobby pins. I did pin curls on my entire head. I'm going to gently fluff the curls tomorrow morning, with the hope that I have even curls all over. I don't wat to have a "fro" ...so I'm thinking the Dippity-Do with keep the curls tight. ...did I do it right? I only expect to have the curls for a day or two. I'm off work for a few days and I thought if would be fun to give it a try. The other guys in my office would give me no end of shit if I showed up with a head of curly hair.

I had a huge blonde Afro in the late 70s.

...uh. I don't think those are pin curls.

It's OP's next step--velcro rollers

This reminds of being a little kid at my sitter's house sometime in the late 60's. The memories are vague but I recall quite clearly watching her teen-aged daughters getting ready for dates and using Dippity-Do and rollers while they sat in their room and gossiped and read magazines. I thought they were SO glamorous at the time. Getting ready for dates and painting their nails and shit.

Caftan calling.

by Anonymousreply 9May 18, 2016 4:22 AM

OP, I think you'd drive the boys in the office WILD with your kicky new curls!

I think you should debut your BRAND NEW YOU for the boys when you return to work. A bright, sunny chiffon headscarf should conceal your luscious locks until you have your "dramatic reveal!"

Keep us posted!!!

I've looked all over for Dippity-Do, I'm not sure if they even make it anymore, any substitutes?

I think gorilla glue could work, just don't get it too close to the scalp or edges.

by Anonymousreply 15May 3, 2021 5:20 AM

my hair gets curly and kinda blonde (not just brown) when it grows out, and specifically woman seemed to really really like it for some reason. Get a perm, whatever, go for it. Like an Argentinian soccer player from the 70's, If people talk shit tell them you are confident it looks awesome.

When I read your post, OP, I immediately thought "Spoolies! For professional pin curls!" But I see R3 beat me to it.

by Anonymousreply 17May 3, 2021 5:25 AM

Dippity-do is available from Amazon, OP. If you're in a hurry, may I suggest a Dollar Store in your area?

Now they are all the rage and half the boys have them. Lonny writing in 2016 was ahead of trend.

I've always preferred finger waves, myself. Though not on men. My freshman year of college, I was the assistant costume designer on "The Philadelphia Story". In the evening party scene, we dressed Tracy in a draped peach chiffon Greek goddess style gown, some of the brightest, most exquisite 1930s vintage paste costume jewelry I've ever seen, and...beautiful, beautiful fingerwaves (the wig was red, of course).

Anyway, have fun with the Dippity-Do. I wasn't even aware it was still manufactured.

A bit OT, but I knew a guy dyed his hair purple, & used the leftover dye to tint his pubes.

Nearly five years later, Lonny has yet to report the results back to us.
