Just look what one person answer was:
"I hate to say it to you, but vans are very gay, wanna know why? A long time ago there was 3 brands of shoes called converse, vans, and ugg. these brands made shoes for men. Later girls started wearing them. Girls would wear the bright colored vans such as pink, mint green, green, red, and blue, later in the 2000s girls started wearing any color of vans that came to their mind like gray, black, Ect. Girls also started to wear converse and uggs. Us straight men now look gay no matter what kind of shoes we wear all thanks to girls who can't even stick to clothes that were made for them. And No I'm not gay. I can't wear my uggs, vans, or converse anymore thanks to girls. Swag fag idiots Cx"

Vans are fucking awesome - our straight and gay friends wear them, both male and female, along with docs, as they're comfy for gigs, festivals. Most punks and metal heads live in them. I do corporate during the week, the rest of the time it's cons, vans, docs, but we say NO to uggs.

I'm a guy and I've always wanted a pair of checkered Vans slip-on shoes. However, it seems like lately a lot of girls are wearing them at school at stuff. I think it would be fine to wear them but I'm afraid of the possibility of jokes, pointing, and general abuse. Can i buy myself a pair or will i get called "girly"?

A few years ago, weary of English-as-a-third-language personals ads, a friend and I composed a Craigslist post that was horny, but vague, nearly incoherent and devoid of mechanics frills like punctuation and spacing, sort of like the OP here, but worse.
It was meant for our own amusement and that of other literate people reading CL. However, the replies were shocking. The hottest young, dumb, stupid guys replied to that post, and a lot of them.
My friend exclaimed, "Somebody has to fuck these guys!" So we split up the replies and we both got laid. I got a guy in a band (too many drugs) and a hot Mexican that I fucked for the next year and a half. My friend, a bottom, found 3 young guys to fuck him from that ad. He got chlamydia from one of them. So it turns out using proper grammar could be a protective factor for STDs.

Last time I thought about Vans was 16 years ago, when Nikki Sixx won an embarrassing two-year million-dollar lawsuit against them for image theft. They weren't really happening kicks even back then (and neither was Motley Crue).
[quote] Sixx said he had no choice but to sue, and not just for his own image. "Mostly you find that people just let it go," Sixx said. "With me and the guys in Motley Crue, we've been standing up for our rights and hopefully we're standing up for other people's rights too."
[quote] Sixx sued a skateboarding magazine and the Vans shoe company for allegedly using his image in an ad without his permission. Sixx, whose real name is Franklin Feranna, said in the lawsuit filed Tuesday that the defendants used photographs of him with pro skater Tony Trujillo at a San Francisco ceremony organized by Thrasher magazine and sponsored by Vans. Sixx said he agreed to present Trujillo with a "Skater of the Year" award at the ceremony on Dec. 7, 2002, because he knew Trujillo was a Motley Crue fan. The musician said he was surprised to see photos taken at the ceremony in an ad for Trujillo's signature Vans shoes. The photo also showed a marquee with the words "Thrasher Magazine's Skater of the Year Tony Trujillo." The lawsuit said the caption above one of the photos, "Live Fast, Die Young," was "somewhat reminiscent of the title of Motley Crue's first album, 'Too Fast For Love."' It said Sixx had also been informed that Vans and Thrasher products bearing his image were displayed at skateparks. Vans attorney Craig Gosselin said the company had not seen the lawsuit, but planned to fight it. "It will be our contention that he gave us permission to use his likeness in our ad," Gosselin said. Thrasher publisher Ed Riggins said he did not believe the magazine should be named in the lawsuit because no one from Thrasher had asked that the publication's name be included in the ad.
So to answer OP's questions: yes to the first, and no to the second.
