Graham Nash Suggests that Crosby, Stills & Nash Are Broken Up Due to Falling-Out with David Crosby

All three members of Crosby, Stills & Nash currently are focusing on solo projects, but Graham Nash has dropped a bombshell about the current status of the group in a new interview with the Dutch magazine Lust for Life. According to a Google translation of the article, Nash says the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame band is basically broken up because of a major falling-out between him and David Crosby.

“You asked me if [there will be] more of CSN? My answer is ‘no,’ and that’s very sad, because we’re pretty good,” Graham told Lust for Life. “But I don’t like David Crosby right now. He’s been awful to me these last two years. Really, really awful.”

In addition, Nash revealed that he and Crosby, with whom he also has performed and recorded as a duo on and off since the early 1970s, had a physical fight onstage last year.

“I’ve been there and saved his f****** ass for 45 years — and he treats me like I’m dirt,” he continued. “You can’t do that to me. You can do it for a day or so, until I think you’re going to come around. But when it goes on longer, and I keep getting nasty emails from him, I’m done. F*** you.”

During the interview, Graham accused David of “single-handedly [tearing] the heart out” of both CSN and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. With regard to the latter group, it’s been well-documented that in a 2014 interview, David made a comment that caused a major rift between him and Neil Young — apparently calling Neil’s then-new girlfriend, actress Daryl Hannah, “a purely poisonous predator.” Last March, Crosby revealed in a Twitter Q&A that he’d apologized to Young about his comments, while admitting that Neil was still “pretty mad” at him.

ABC Radio reached out to Nash’s publicist with regard to Graham’s remarks to Lust for Life, and he said there was “no comment.” Meanwhile, Nash recently discussed the current status of David and Neil’s relationship with ABC Radio, although he made no mention of his own falling-out with Crosby at the time.

“It’s well-known that David said some really awful comments about Neil’s girlfriend…and I think it was uncalled for and I’ve told David many times that I thought he was completely wrong,” Graham pointed out. “And he did apologize, but it was a year later. You know, when you screw up like that with your brothers, you need to get on it right away. You don’t wait a year to apologize…So, you know, CSNY right now depends on whether Neil and David can even stand each other.”

Nash will be releasing a new solo album titled This Path Tonight on April 15, and is touring throughout the year in support of the record. Crosby recently launched his own U.S. solo trek and recently revealed that he has two albums in the works. As for Stephen Stills, his blues-rock side project The Rides will release their second album, Pierced Arrow, on May 6, and the group has a U.S. trek lined to promote it that gets underway on May 2.

That Crosby cunt had better keep his fat mouth shut about me, I will cut him.

Leave my baby daddy alone!

by Anonymousreply 2April 2, 2016 1:43 AM

I used to like these guys, including the solo and duo work, but when were these guys last relevant--may be 25 or so years ago?

by Anonymousreply 3April 2, 2016 1:52 AM

Crosby is a multi-generational douchebag R3.

I love how Crosby used to say that Stills was the problem within the band. He could be difficult, but it was usually a result of two bad drug habits. He was also the most talented all around, and never got his due for it. Once everyone got sober, lo and behold--look who the real asshole was. Nash has largely stayed above the fray over the years, so for him to say that is quite something, and I'd put more credence into it than anything Crosby says.

Having said that, he was probably spot on about Daryl Hannah--the mistake was saying it publicly.

r3 they've had a stage show that belied their years last decade or so ago. One of the few old geezer acts actually worth the price of admission. I don't know how they are now, Stills' voice is shot and his hearing is going, but he can probably still play guitar. Crosby's and Nash's voices held up well, but this was only one concert on youtube, it might not have held up for a whole tour. IIRC, reviews at the time were positive.

Here is an old Costas interview from about 25 years ago. I don't agree with him about the Doors, but he was right about Morrison, and he seems pretty no nonsense. It's a cut in from a TV interview, and he's talking about Stills when it starts.

They should have broken up a long time ago. My two cents.

by Anonymousreply 7April 2, 2016 11:29 PM

They were before my time, but I absolutely LOVE Stephen Stills, from his days with the Buffalo Springfield, Manassas and of course, CSN...and sometimes Y.

I absolutely agree that he never really got his due and I think there was always some resentment over the fact that Young became a bigger solo act because I'm sure even Young would admit that Stills' was just an incredible musician in every way. They still love and respect each other and do each others charity concerts.

I love the story about Stills trying out for the Monkees with his buddy Peter Tork and was rejected due to his bad teeth and thinning hair. Thank God they did reject him because that talent would've been wasted on that crap show.

One of my absolute favorite performances was CSNY doing "Down By the River" on the David Steinberg show. The back/forth guitar between Stills and Young gets me every time:

Joni Mitchell called David Crosby out on his assholish fuckery years ago. And has continued to call him out since.

by Anonymousreply 9April 2, 2016 11:53 PM

DC is one of those guys who talks about peace and love, but he's really just a dick.

by Anonymousreply 10April 2, 2016 11:56 PM

That is so true, r10.

by Anonymousreply 11April 3, 2016 12:13 AM

Wow, if Graham Nash has lost patience with Crosby, they're really done. Nash has the patience of a saint and has needed it since Stills and Crosby are both tools and Neil lives in Neil-world.

by Anonymousreply 12April 3, 2016 1:48 AM

They're all really talented, and from an incredible period in American popular music. I liked them singly and together. "Guinnevere" was such a beautiful song. It's a shame they're on the outs. I did love when DC called out Kanye West as a poseur...

by Anonymousreply 13April 3, 2016 2:42 AM

I used to love CSNY, but always thought Nash was the least interesting and the least talented. I just read his memoir -- Wild Tales -- and it was wonderful. Although I still think his musical contributions were mostly too treacly, he has a wonderful way of telling the story of CSNY and Lauren Canyon. The love he has (had) for Crosby is obvious, so Crosby must have been a complete dick for Nash to turn his back on him now. The book is definitely worth reading, by the way, for anyone who likes them or the Lauren Canyon music scene.

by Anonymousreply 14April 3, 2016 2:52 AM

Why am I not surprised that Melissa Etheridge would be such close friends with a cunt like Crosby? Now her kids can inherit his nasty traits. I hope they turn them on her.

by Anonymousreply 15April 3, 2016 2:54 AM

Is Lauren Canyon someone they all fucked when they lived in Laurel Canyon, R14?

by Anonymousreply 16April 3, 2016 12:12 PM

Straight male drama.

by Anonymousreply 17April 3, 2016 12:56 PM

So what you're saying is all these people are still alive? And they're still in a small room bitch slapping each other?

by Anonymousreply 18April 3, 2016 1:24 PM

I'm guessing it's dementia.

by Anonymousreply 19April 3, 2016 1:25 PM

Oh God no, OP! Don't tell us that...that...who?

Do you realize these people were literally fighting IN THE MIDDLE OF THE LAST CENTURY???

by Anonymousreply 22April 3, 2016 1:51 PM

They have a recording studio in a nursing home.

by Anonymousreply 23April 3, 2016 2:03 PM

Call me when they have an ice cream named after them. Then we'll talk popularity.

by Anonymousreply 24April 3, 2016 2:04 PM

That's a shame. I saw them at Bethel Woods in 2014 and Nash and Crosby were amazing on Guinevere. They were a little rough at the beginning but the harmonizing was just beautiful.

by Anonymousreply 25April 3, 2016 3:08 PM

I think the real issue is that Nash dumped his wife of 35 years so he could have a younger girlfriend in his twilight years, and Crosby chastized him for it as he did Neil.

by Anonymousreply 26April 3, 2016 3:29 PM

One thing I learned from Nash' memoirs for which I may never forgive him: His son went to college with Adam Levine. Maroon 5 was called something else then; something flowers, or flowers something. Anyway, Nash asked his son what was going on with them, and his son told him that they were breaking up because they didn't have the money to record, etc. Nash then lent them the money to record the demos that led their record deal. I was surprised by this, because I always heard that Levine came from money, but maybe his parents didn't want to support his music career? At any rate, we have Nash to blame for Maroon 5.

by Anonymousreply 27April 3, 2016 4:48 PM

I saw Crosby, Stills and Nash at a small venue concert in New England in the early 1980's. Fantastic show. But it was like watching three people performing as a group but having little to do with one another. Nash was seated in the middle for a reason.

by Anonymousreply 28April 4, 2016 3:08 AM

Straight boys play in the sand box, until one guy pisses in the sand box. the end

by Anonymousreply 29April 4, 2016 3:09 AM

Crosby, Stills & Nash are a think of the past. The music industry had pushed them aside along with the other oldies acts.

by Anonymousreply 30April 5, 2016 9:22 PM

No way. They could still sell out large venues, especially with Neil.

Their CSN(Y) music was always a little geriatric anyway.

Our house was a very very very fine house, until the kids played in our yard, now life's become so hard

by Anonymousreply 31April 5, 2016 9:32 PM

Also agree that Stills was the most talented musician of the bunch (even Young called him a genius). Stills was also very hot when he was younger (that lucky Judy Collins!). But he didn't take care of his voice - I bought a live CD of CSNY from 1974 and even that early the singing can be appallingly bad on some songs, as if he was recovering from a bad hangover.

Stills did two fine solo albums in the early 70's (Stephen Stills and Stephen Stills 2) before putting Manassas together, but neither of that group's albums were particularly memorable. I have the first double-album and rarely listen to it.

Crosby had the worst, and longest-lasting drug problem of the group, and yes he can be a major douche.

by Anonymousreply 32April 5, 2016 9:45 PM

This "solo" album by David was great, though he had a lot of help from, like, everybody

by Anonymousreply 33April 5, 2016 9:50 PM

Wow, R26. I didn't realize Nash was divorcing his wife. I read his autobiography and it all seemed like sunshine and roses at the time. All four of those guys are a bunch of divas in their own ways, but Crosby and Nash were always close, until recently.

by Anonymousreply 34April 5, 2016 9:54 PM

Stills might be the more skilled musician but Young is by far the superior songwriter. He's written dozens and dozens of memorable songs over the decades. Stills has written ... a couple.

by Anonymousreply 35April 5, 2016 10:32 PM

They seem to rank in the same order, both by talent and divaness:

1 Young 2 Stills 3 Crosby 4 Nash

by Anonymousreply 36April 5, 2016 10:36 PM

I like this clip of solo Neil in the Village in 1970, complete with the opening camera shot from the street into the back of some cafe. And tight guitar strumming.

WHACK-JOB!!!

Nash's new girlfriend is a total manic pixie dream girl. She writes a blog titled "Love is a Cunt." And she looks exactly like young Joni Mitchell.

As stated, all talented. Neil has/had the most magic...

by Anonymousreply 40April 6, 2016 1:50 AM

I'll never be able to fathom why Melissa Etheridge sought out Crosby's sperm for procreation. Genetics are a crapshoot, but I think that you're more likely to produce progeny that has a tendency towards addictions, narcissism and sociopathy than a musical talent.

by Anonymousreply 41April 6, 2016 2:52 AM

Probably not talent so much as genius, which is often accompanied by the aforementioned traits.

by Anonymousreply 42April 6, 2016 2:59 AM

Would you call Crosby a genius, though? The other qualities are far more common than genius... The ugliness factor -- also more common.

by Anonymousreply 43April 6, 2016 3:03 AM

I would say he has a high level of genius.

by Anonymousreply 44April 6, 2016 3:06 AM

Someone upstream quoted from Our House. Trivia: it was written about Joni Mitchell's house. They lived there when they were a couple, and she used to keep colored bottles in the window , which gave rise to the lyric "the windows are illuminated..."

by Anonymousreply 45April 6, 2016 4:55 AM

[quote]I would say he has a high level of genius.

HIGHLY questionable assumption given that his contemporaries eclipsed his level of talent, skill and inspiration over and over again. Who said so besides himself and how did it manage to be a commodity to give birth?

Immediately transferrable to progeny as Melissa Etheridge and her highly educated and elite ass who at least studied Introductory Biology at any state school and knew it was a crap shoot with poor odds. Or, hold on,, someone assumed Melissa Etheridge had a modicum of intelligence on her side? Please enlighten us with your broad range of knowledge in genetics, psychology and "music," OK, before you go on any further.

R46, in the immortal words of former VP, Dick Cheney, go fuck yourself...

by Anonymousreply 47April 11, 2016 8:39 PM

...and your inane, poorly written and garbled post. Better yet, go fuck a Drosophila Melanogaster (hope you're up to a genetics reference, asswipe.)

by Anonymousreply 48April 11, 2016 8:44 PM

David Crosby has a dishy Twitter feed where he just goes off on random musicians and answers questions. He said Eddie Van Halen was talentless, then had to walk it back bc he died.

by Anonymousreply 49October 28, 2020 6:05 PM

Saw that exchange r49. What rock is he living under to not know that EVH had passed? It made national news and must have been an even bigger story in Southern CA, where Van Halen came from and were based.

Crosby is very opinionated and can be an ass. He was spot on re Daryl Hannah & Young, though.

by Anonymousreply 50October 28, 2020 6:18 PM

They're all so fucking old now, it's probably dementia. People with dementia get angry and crazy.

by Anonymousreply 51October 28, 2020 6:24 PM

Everyone knows Crosby was/is right about Darryl Hannah. He's still a dick.

Young's a dick too. Nash is just boring.

Stills is the best of them.

by Anonymousreply 52October 28, 2020 6:51 PM

Stills was by far the most musically talented. Nash was known to be mellow and nice, but then divorced his wife of 40 years for a woman half his age!

by Anonymousreply 53November 3, 2020 1:44 AM

Very difficult to find a better album than this

by Anonymousreply 55November 3, 2020 2:28 AM

All you ever had to do was look at Crosby's face. Pure asshole.

by Anonymousreply 56November 3, 2020 2:32 AM

Yes, I hate to judge a book by its cover, but Crosby is ugly inside and out. Also, as you get older, the mean expressions and lines get ingrained into your face.

Melissa Etheridge has bad judgment, choosing him as a biological father to her children. Yuck!

by Anonymousreply 57November 3, 2020 5:17 AM

Jakob Dylan (Bob’s son) produced a documentary called Echo in the Canyon about the Laurel Canyon music scene of the 60s. David Crosby is in it and he’s hilarious, full of tales about what an epic asshole and druggie he was. He fully admits it was his own fault every time he got kicked out of the band or got into a feud with somebody.

by Anonymousreply 58November 3, 2020 6:36 AM

Graham Nash is known to be the only stable one of the group.

by Anonymousreply 59November 3, 2020 4:09 PM

In the Laurel Canyon documentary put on by Jacob Dylan, Stephen Stills appeared very much to still be grappling with an addiction of sorts, namely coke. Cocaine will ravage the voice if abused for so long. Or he is sober now and just pickled. Maybe that has something to do with the decline of his vocal talents.

by Anonymousreply 60November 3, 2020 4:52 PM

As long as Neil Young keeps putting out records, new and old unreleased material. He has way more talent than the other three combined.
