The McLaughlin Group

For three decades, the sharpest minds, best sources, hardest talk.

I still watch it sometimes, but it is a shadow of its former self.

by Anonymousreply 1March 19, 2016 6:56 PM

I its heyday it was some great Friday evening TV!

by Anonymousreply 2March 19, 2016 7:02 PM

I thought John might actually die during last night's show. He was barely coherent and didn't even have enough energy to turn his head towards the panelists. The buzzards are circling, I'm afraid.

by Anonymousreply 3March 19, 2016 7:08 PM

Jacko, Jackawa, Jackabee, Jackie, Jack Germond you say what?

by Anonymousreply 4March 19, 2016 7:12 PM

Out of time! Bye bye!

by Anonymousreply 5March 19, 2016 7:35 PM

Why does McLaughlin love Tom Rogan so much?

by Anonymousreply 6March 19, 2016 7:36 PM

So true R3. He looks like he needs to be wired to a pole to sit up.

by Anonymousreply 7March 19, 2016 7:39 PM

Eleanor! Let Pat in! Pat, quickly!

by Anonymousreply 8March 19, 2016 11:19 PM

R1 But John is 88, Eleanor 77, Pat 75. It has to show. John was excellent host for a long time, he is doing his best, but is an old man. I used to watch it weekly, but now sometimes for a short time, it's not the same any more.

by Anonymousreply 9March 19, 2016 11:42 PM

Did you queens ever see the SNL spoof "The Sinatra Group"? Fucking hysterical. Can't find a vid on youtube.

by Anonymousreply 10March 20, 2016 12:10 AM

I stopped watching several years ago when they added Monica Crowley to the panel. She was the worst. Anyhow, I started watching again before the primaries and have 2 questions:

What happened to Mort Zuckerman, who used to alternate with Clarence?

Does the British conservative dick like...dick?

by Anonymousreply 11March 20, 2016 12:33 AM

And the ex-Father McLaughlin pinching the asses of every woman on the set, between shitting his drawers.

by Anonymousreply 12March 20, 2016 12:51 AM

[quote] What happened to Mort Zuckerman...

Last fall I think they announced that Mort would be on an extended hiatus to write or do research for his next book.

by Anonymousreply 13March 20, 2016 1:45 AM

Yeah, the Sinatra Group on SNL was hilarious. When Sinead O'connor was a guest panelist: "Issue Two: What's with the bald chick"

And to panelist Billy Idol, "Listen, punk, I pull things bigger than you from my STOOL"

by Anonymousreply 14March 20, 2016 7:27 PM

I think the Piscopo Sinatra said, "Yo, Sinbad! What's with the bald chick?" It was very funny.

by Anonymousreply 15March 20, 2016 7:30 PM

[quote]Does the British conservative dick like...dick?

He says that he's straight. He's actually said some pro-gay things on the show.

by Anonymousreply 16March 20, 2016 7:41 PM

Eleanor, Gee I Think You're Swellinor!

by Anonymousreply 17March 20, 2016 7:53 PM

by Anonymousreply 19March 20, 2016 8:14 PM

I haven't watched it in years (decades?) then I saw McLaughlin lately - wow! Very elderly and frail looking. I guess if he is 88 he is doing well, but still a shock since I hadn't seen it and he always had such energy even though I did not agree with him.

by Anonymousreply 20March 20, 2016 8:23 PM

I loved Louis Rukeyser's Wall Street Week, too. It was an era now gone.

by Anonymousreply 23March 20, 2016 8:36 PM

Rukeyser and TMG were my jams in the late 80s/early 90s. I loved those shows.

by Anonymousreply 24March 20, 2016 8:45 PM

Predictions! Jack Germond!

by Anonymousreply 25March 20, 2016 8:47 PM

BYE BYE

by Anonymousreply 26March 20, 2016 9:07 PM

I always thought that McLaughlin was gay baiting Jack with constant references to his custom made shirts and poodles but apparently Jack is straight.

by Anonymousreply 27March 20, 2016 9:13 PM

Jack Germond always looked like he was in need of a scotch. I loved that guy.

by Anonymousreply 28March 20, 2016 11:46 PM

Yeah, Jack Germond was one of the last of his kind, in a way. He was a great reporter, with sources all over DC and beyond. I can picture him at ease in a seedy bar with a source, at a party with politicos, and (most likely) at a weekly poker game where the cigars were strong and the booze stronger.

He died a few years ago, after a falling out with John M, apparently. I loved his crusty, old-school liberalism and his zero tolerance for bullshit.

Germondo!

by Anonymousreply 29March 20, 2016 11:56 PM

Stockholm syndrome - love the oppressors

by Anonymousreply 30March 20, 2016 11:56 PM

[quote] He died a few years ago, after a falling out with John M, apparently. I loved his crusty, old-school liberalism and his zero tolerance for bullshit.

Yeah, after Jack Germond left the McLaughlin Group, he spoke about how he hated John McLaughlin and hated doing the show and only kept doing it for the money, which helped pay for his daughter's college education (if my memory serves me right). Can't find a link, but I recall him being pretty outspoken about how much he couldn't stand McLaughlin.

by Anonymousreply 31March 21, 2016 12:04 AM

Patty Patty Buke Buke!!

by Anonymousreply 32March 21, 2016 12:05 AM

I loved the British Tory. Such great suits.

by Anonymousreply 33March 21, 2016 12:08 AM

by Anonymousreply 34March 21, 2016 12:13 AM

What a miserable fuck ...can't stand him FOAD

by Anonymousreply 35March 21, 2016 12:30 AM

It's always been a ridiculous show, like a verbal pillow fight. Anyone who thinks it's "sharp" or intelligent is a nimrod.

by Anonymousreply 36March 21, 2016 12:34 AM

The Year End Awards shows are always funny. They dress up in formals and give awards to the Worst Politician, Turncoat of the Year, Most Boring, Destined for Political Oblivion, etc.

by Anonymousreply 37March 21, 2016 12:45 AM

The last time I watched that show Jack Germond was still on there. I can live without it. Gladly.

by Anonymousreply 38March 21, 2016 12:57 AM

We don't have quality political analysis anymore, it's all spin and lies now.

by Anonymousreply 39March 21, 2016 1:09 AM

Anyone catch the VP speculation topic last weekend? John believes that Hillary will be Bernie's VP if he gets the nomination, which made everyone else laugh.

I did think Eleanor's prediction that Scott Brown could be Trump's VP was interesting.

by Anonymousreply 40March 21, 2016 1:11 AM

That thing is still on? It was somewhat entertaining because of Jack Germond, the embodiment of the old-school political reporter. Loved his delivery and what he had to say. And, I liked Eleanor also. McLaughlin was a pompous ass.

by Anonymousreply 41March 21, 2016 1:13 AM

McLaughlin got sued for sexual harassment several times. He didn't care - he just paid them off. Dirty old goat.

by Anonymousreply 42March 21, 2016 1:17 AM

God, that SNL skit reminds me of how hot Sting used to be.

by Anonymousreply 43March 21, 2016 1:19 AM

I remember Charles Krauthammer on this show, stuffy and sneering, during the dark days of Reagan.

by Anonymousreply 44March 21, 2016 4:00 AM

R9 She was born in 1940 which makes her 75 not 77.

by Anonymousreply 45March 21, 2016 6:27 PM

From this weekend's show:

McLaughlin: Forced prediction. The panel MUST answer, even if the panel protests it does not wish to answer, the panel MUST answer yes or no! Within two years, the U.S. will replicate Canada’s assisted suicide law and legalize euthanasia?

by Anonymousreply 46April 17, 2016 6:29 PM

Can't believe nobody's mentioned that Eleanor is/was Montgomery Clift's sister in law.

by Anonymousreply 47April 17, 2016 8:15 PM

McLaughlin has seemed like he's about to drop dead during the last few shows.

by Anonymousreply 48April 17, 2016 8:20 PM

R29, Germond apparently said he was sick of the BS on that show. He loved gambling on the horses, too. I didn't know about putting his daughter through college with the income from that show. I got the sense that McLaughlin could be pretty insufferable at times.

I didn't realize McLaughlin was 88 or that Eleanor Clift was 77. She's doing well, but McLaughlin has been pretty out of it lately on the show. I don't watch it that often, because my PBS station has moved it to Sunday morning at the same time as the other talk shows. I have to catch it on Youtube. I got really fed up with Monica Crowell, too. She was pretty obnoxious.

I used to watch Louis Rukeyser on Friday nights, too. But it went the way of Joan Rivers gossip show, lost to too many outlets for the info. I remember the final show. Rukeyser was clearly upset about being dropped.

by Anonymousreply 49April 17, 2016 9:08 PM

I've watched the show for at least 25 years. It's not as good as it was in the past but it's still a great way to hear different political perspectives and banter ..... rather than get into a discussion with some idiot at the office. Eleanor is excellent. John looks like he's incredibly close to death.

by Anonymousreply 50July 2, 2016 3:52 PM

I haven't watched for years. I tried once, but it wasn't the same. Time is cruel. I used to like it very much.

by Anonymousreply 51July 2, 2016 4:30 PM

Whatever happened to Morton Kondrake?

by Anonymousreply 52July 2, 2016 5:42 PM

The host always starts out with "Item One". No hello. No "well it was a rough week in Washington". No "welcome back".

by Anonymousreply 53July 2, 2016 7:40 PM

R53, this is hard talk. There's no time for niceties.

by Anonymousreply 54July 2, 2016 7:47 PM

It's "Issue one!" "Out of time, bye bye!"

by Anonymousreply 55July 2, 2016 7:52 PM

Wasn't McLaughlin famed in the 90s for his witty repartee. For example, in an office elevator with a comely blond intern, purring at her, "So how do *you* feel about kinky sex?"

Then I found out he was formerly a Jesuit-in-training, so it all made sense.

by Anonymousreply 59July 2, 2016 8:26 PM

"Issue 37: how big is my penis ELEANOR CLIFT?!!!"

by Anonymousreply 60July 2, 2016 8:36 PM

I enjoy this show. At least they present their points of view with some with intelligence and humor.

by Anonymousreply 61July 2, 2016 8:42 PM

Why did JM call Fred Barnes "Freddie the Beatle Barnes"? The hair? This was almost 20 years after the Beatles broke up, and Barnes's hair was pretty normal. There must be some reference I was missing.

The classic group of the 80s and 90s (Pat, Eleanor, Jack, Fred and "host" John) was influential weekend viewing but it was very much of its time: Back then, every issue had not already been talked to death by dozens of pundits on three or four cable news channels for days and days before the Group convened. It was something to look forward to, in a way.

Now, there's so much of it, mostly lacking in wit or wisdom.

by Anonymousreply 62July 2, 2016 9:29 PM

It's thought provoking. I like the show.

This is what The View should be.

by Anonymousreply 63July 2, 2016 9:36 PM

Staying with friends one weekend in another city, I asked one Sunday morning which channel number The Yelling Screaming Show was on in their market.

They replied "Channel 7 at 10 am," knowing exactly the program to which I was referring.

by Anonymousreply 64July 2, 2016 11:09 PM

Fucking awful right-wing claptrap. Not balanced - just a lot of talking points. They'd have poor Eleanor up there against 3-4 conservatives.

I can't believe any of you liked this show.

by Anonymousreply 65July 2, 2016 11:24 PM

I think Eleanor likes it this way, she wouldn't have stayed all these years, and she is known for shouting her opinions, when she wants to make a point.

by Anonymousreply 66July 3, 2016 11:02 AM

I wonder what ole crusty McLaughlin thinks of non binary CIS gender queer people? He didn't like plain gay much, that's for sure!

by Anonymousreply 67July 3, 2016 5:40 PM

Every time they would talk about marriage equality, Pat Buchanan would refer to it as "homosexual marriage." And without fail, Eleanor would always correct him: "It's same-sex marriage."

by Anonymousreply 68July 3, 2016 5:45 PM

Mor-TON!

My folks and I always found Eleanor to be incredibly grating on the show; however, not long ago I read something of hers in print, which seemed reasonable rather than screeching.

by Anonymousreply 69July 3, 2016 5:54 PM

It's fun to bellow "Eleanor!!!" like McLauchlin does. Try it!

by Anonymousreply 70July 3, 2016 6:07 PM

OMG did you bitches SEE his combover today?! It looked like he parted his hair at crack of his 90 year old ass!

by Anonymousreply 71July 3, 2016 7:46 PM

Speaking of his ass, has anyone else noticed the giant cushion he sits on now? He also sits leaning to one side now like he has some issue with his ass. I wonder what is going on. I love how his set has never changed, I think that furniture Is from the late 80's and the opening graphics look like they are still on video.

by Anonymousreply 72July 3, 2016 8:03 PM

R24 I used to watch both of them on CNBC, full of hour of great television.

by Anonymousreply 73July 3, 2016 8:23 PM

Idiot blowhards without an intelligent thought between the lot of them. They are directly responsible for the acceptance of Bill O'Reilly and the bullying style of Faux News.

by Anonymousreply 74July 3, 2016 10:57 PM

Used to like McLaughlin Group until.i found Washington Week, Fridays on PBS. The discussion is among journalists and way more interesting and dynamic.

by Anonymousreply 75July 3, 2016 11:29 PM

Four years ago I remember seeing Gwen Ifill on the road interviewing Newt Gingrich. Usually, he's such a blowhard, so it was fascinating to see him make an effort to treat Gwen as an intellectual equal.

by Anonymousreply 76July 3, 2016 11:37 PM

seriously, that grumpy asshole is not worth watching

by Anonymousreply 77July 4, 2016 2:38 AM

R72, he appears to have a problem with one of his hips, not unlikely or unusual at his age.

by Anonymousreply 78July 4, 2016 2:52 AM

McLaughlin's pompous verbal delivery has always reminded me of P. T. Bridgeport from Walt Kelly's Pogo comic strip.

That said, he's good TV because he's such a Character. Eleanor Clift is just a scold with an angry look on her face. I used to watch it, I think because it was the only political show on in its time slot. But it's really for political junkies. I never learned anything from it.

by Anonymousreply 82July 4, 2016 3:49 AM

Is it true that McLlaughlin's a leather daddy?

by Anonymousreply 83July 4, 2016 3:56 AM

When Pat was bashing Ruth Bader Ginsburg, I was glad that Eleanor interrupted him and asked, "When Scalia went duck hunting with Dick Cheney while a case involving Cheney was before the court, did you get in an uproar about that?"

by Anonymousreply 84July 16, 2016 10:17 PM

I used to watch The McLaughlin Group back in the early 1990s, then stopped watching. I was shocked to discover that the show is still around. I honestly thought it had gone off the air 10 or 15 years ago. It's scary to watch McLaughlin now, because he really does look like he's just barely there and could drop dead at any moment.

by Anonymousreply 85July 16, 2016 10:34 PM

The funniest unintentional moment was when Eleanor Clift claimed that The Muslim Brotherhood was a secular organization?! Not only does she need a head lift she needs a brain lift as well.

by Anonymousreply 86July 16, 2016 10:36 PM

In my market they buried McG at 6am Sunday morning.

by Anonymousreply 123August 13, 2016 1:08 AM

John McLaughlin Death Watch:

After 2 weeks of repeats, this week's episode is new, but McLaughlin is absent. In a written message at the beginning, he acknowledges that he's "under the weather." He does do the voiceover for two of the issues (go to 10;35 and 21:00 in the clip), but it's pretty sad. He can barely talk. Sounds like he's had another stroke. I doubt he'll ever return.

by Anonymousreply 124August 13, 2016 5:28 PM

by Anonymousreply 125August 13, 2016 5:45 PM

They had to use subtitles during his Issue 2 introduction.

by Anonymousreply 126August 13, 2016 7:10 PM

I agree, r124, he won't be back. So what happens to the show. Will they do a Crossfire format without a moderator, or just end the show? If it does end, I'll miss Eleanor and Clarence.

by Anonymousreply 127August 13, 2016 8:40 PM

Clarence is one cool dude.

I loved when he shut Tom down when he was squawking about Hillary being corrupt and a criminal. He said, "Hillary Clinton is a lawyer. Her husband is a lawyer. They may be reckless and stretch the limits, but they are very careful not to break the law. That's why they're walking around free right now, Tom."

by Anonymousreply 128August 13, 2016 9:01 PM

Why does McLaughlin refer to himself as "Dr McLaughlin" rather than just John? Sure, he has a PhD but just seems odd, especially since he doesn't work in academia or a research institution. Lawyers, such as Pat Buchanan, have a doctorate (Juris Doctor) but they don't call themselves doctor.

by Anonymousreply 129August 15, 2016 3:06 PM

It won't work without a strong moderator. The problem is, where to find him or her.

by Anonymousreply 130August 15, 2016 3:19 PM

The show"s charm is its retro flavor. It's an older generation which is dying out .

Even TCM can't find an appropriate new host for the same reason.

by Anonymousreply 131August 15, 2016 4:24 PM

John and the show will die out soon, he doesn't look good. He just comes across as behind-the-times. Women are half the population and account for more than half of those who vote, but usually only one woman participates .... that's just 20%.

A message from the McLaughlin Group family. Earlier this morning, a beloved friend and mentor, Dr. John McLaughlin, passed away peacefully at the age of 89. As a former Jesuit priest, teacher, pundit and news host, John touched many lives. For 34 years, The McLaughlin Group informed millions of Americans. Now he has said bye bye for the last time, to rejoin his beloved dog, Oliver, in heaven. He will always be remembered. Please note, we will inform you - via this page - of memorial service details.

by Anonymousreply 139August 16, 2016 9:15 PM

So he's pinched his last bottom and gone to his last Confession for it.

by Anonymousreply 140August 16, 2016 9:20 PM

Damm, now I feel kinda bad about shading the old coot.

by Anonymousreply 141August 16, 2016 9:30 PM

So he'll never find out who wins the election. Boo fucking hoo.

by Anonymousreply 142August 16, 2016 10:51 PM

At least he lived long enough to see an African American become President .That probably sent him down hill and the thought of the First Woman President probably killed him!

by Anonymousreply 143August 17, 2016 12:15 AM

Nice tribute by Eleanor. He died of prostate cancer and had been under hospice care.

Thanks for sharing, R144. That was touching.

by Anonymousreply 145August 17, 2016 2:31 AM

I had long stopped watching this show, but now, I'm kind of sad. it was the first political talk show I remember, and I already kinda miss it. it was actually interesting and important in its day. damn.

by Anonymousreply 146August 17, 2016 2:38 AM

It's amazing that he continued to do the show up until 3 weeks ago and even did a voiceover for last weekend's show. Granted, he looked awful and wasn't quite there, and the voiceover on last weekend's show was barely intelligible. But still. He kept going right until the end.

by Anonymousreply 147August 17, 2016 3:59 AM

Dana Carvey was funny playing him.

He certainly got the face he deserved in the end! R133

by Anonymousreply 149August 17, 2016 4:09 AM

On all the news articles they are using the photo from [R144] and it is cracking me the fuck up. He looks like a ventriloquist's dummy.

by Anonymousreply 150August 17, 2016 6:08 AM

I haven't watched the show regularly since the early 90s, but I remember it well, and fondly. As much as Buchanan and Novak could piss me off, Eleanor and Jack G were always the voices of (liberal) reason. Kondracke and Freddie Barnes were cute, in their day.

John, the Jesuit, was more bark than bite, and always struck me as a good man, although he probably didn't treat his panelists as well as they deserved, profit-sharing wise. I was moved by Eleanor's essay linked above but noticed she didn't get very personal, certainly never said she loved him or considered him family--after all these years!

Maybe the reason he hasn't been memorialized as much much on current media as he might have expected was that he was just kind of mean?

by Anonymousreply 151August 17, 2016 8:47 PM

[quote] John, the Jesuit, was more bark than bite, and always struck me as a good man, although he probably didn't treat his panelists as well as they deserved, profit-sharing wise.

Jack Germond despised McLaughlin and hated the show. After he quit, he said that he only did the show for the money so he could put his daughter through school.

I suspect that's probably true.

by Anonymousreply 152August 17, 2016 8:54 PM

Here is some of what Jack Germond had to say about McLaughlin and the show:

[quote] Germond quit the show in 1996 – notoriously faxing McLaughlin "bye bye," a riff on how the host would typically end the broadcast. Germond said his reasons for leaving stemmed from a personal beef with McLaughlin, who he said was "not very considerate."

[quote] "It wasn't a comment on the content of the program," Germond said about his exit. "I did it for 15 years so I couldn't have been so disapproving of the content."

[quote] However, Germond did become critical of the show itself. "I think there's an awful lot of trash on television. I contribute to it, to some degree, by being on McLaughlin," he said on an 1996 episode of Frontline titled "Why America Hates the Press."

[quote] "People ask me, "Why do you do that terrible show?" And I say, "Because it put my daughter through college and medical school." I don't make any bones about it. I wouldn't do it for nothing."

He did present all sides and was my 1st education to "adult" politics.

by Anonymousreply 154August 17, 2016 10:27 PM

As I remember he only presented one side- I feel like people are talking about a completely different show.

by Anonymousreply 155August 17, 2016 10:46 PM

I watched the show over the last year or so and I was impressed that the liberals and conservatives could express their points of view without sinking to personal attacks or wild bouts or hyperbole.

by Anonymousreply 156August 17, 2016 10:51 PM

Having grown up with despicable Dixiecrat monsters, McLaughlin's show was the first that made me realize that some conservatives were human.

by Anonymousreply 157August 17, 2016 11:09 PM

Never agreed with him but was really surprised there wasn't more coverage of his passing. Thanks for sharing Eleanor's tribute.

by Anonymousreply 158August 17, 2016 11:52 PM

r158, every show on MSNBC had some sort of mention or tribute to him. He was still big. It's the politics that got small.

by Anonymousreply 159August 18, 2016 12:17 AM

Final episode to air this weekend.

I think it is a wise decision to end it. Who else could moderate it?

by Anonymousreply 161August 18, 2016 6:59 PM

R159 Well said.

by Anonymousreply 162August 18, 2016 7:56 PM

From r160's link:

[quote]"John finally said 'What would be so wrong if when I finish up I just turn the lights out?'"

He was such an egomaniac that I didn't doubt he wouldn't want the series to continue without him. But I agree with r161 -- who could moderate it? He would be very hard to replace.

The end of an era...

by Anonymousreply 163August 18, 2016 8:20 PM

At one point, it seemed as if McLaughlin was grooming smarmy Tom Rogan to be his successor.

by Anonymousreply 164August 18, 2016 8:30 PM

At the closing of this week's episode of Gay USA, Ann Northrup says a "Bye Bye" as a reference to McLaughlin. I was going to call it a salute, but I can't see them as being big fans of his conservatism.

by Anonymousreply 165August 19, 2016 8:25 PM

Oh fuck off, R65 you humorless pinch faced scold.

by Anonymousreply 166August 19, 2016 8:42 PM

I guess it is fitting to end the show without a transition.

The Buchanan Group would be a stain on political discourse. I'd watch the Eleanor Clift-hosted version, but wonder if she could pull it off.

by Anonymousreply 167August 19, 2016 8:43 PM

Mort Zuckerman's say in the Daily News.

I remember him saying he was taking time off the show last fall to either write or promote a book, but he never returned.

by Anonymousreply 168August 19, 2016 8:47 PM

I read that he's survived by a nephew and 3 nieces. I wonder how much he was worth?

The show's low point was during the Monica Crowley years. She was obviously only on the show because John wanted to fuck her.

by Anonymousreply 169August 19, 2016 9:27 PM

[quote] I'd watch the Eleanor Clift-hosted version, but wonder if she could pull it off.

Eleanor is 76. She and Buchanan would both too old to start serving as a moderator now.

by Anonymousreply 170August 19, 2016 9:55 PM

This will probably get pulled soon, but here's a full SNL skit with Dana Carvey as McLaughlin

by Anonymousreply 171August 19, 2016 9:57 PM

Didn't there used to be a travelling debate tour of panelists? I really hope Eleanor and Jack and even Fred and Mort, made some money apart from the show, back in the heyday.

by Anonymousreply 172August 19, 2016 10:07 PM

So. The series finale is an episode from 1983...in Chicago...with a studio audience. Panelist are Robert Novak (ugh), Pat Buchanan (ugh), Mort Kondracke (ugh)...but yay for Jack Germond!

by Anonymousreply 173August 20, 2016 1:09 AM

[quote]I watched the show over the last year or so and I was impressed that the liberals and conservatives could express their points of view without sinking to personal attacks or wild bouts or hyperbole.

Agreed. As much I disagreed with his politics, he obviously wanted heated but civilized discussion and gave a full voice to both sides of an issue. He might allow those voices to become loud, strident, aggressive and insistent but he did that for both sides and didn't allow the discussion to become threatening, personally insulting or profane or irrational. Qualities I respect but are rapidly disappearing from the national discourse. RIP you conservative old coot.

Funeral watching party about to begin!!

by Anonymousreply 176August 20, 2016 5:57 PM

I watched the first few minutes before turning it off. Clarence and Mort Zuckerman were pallbearers. Eleanor walked behind the casket during the procession. The priest mentioned Pat and Tom Rogan would be giving eulogies. I couldn't tell who Maritza, "his close partner of 9 years," was.

by Anonymousreply 177August 20, 2016 6:36 PM

Andrew Sullivan, looking slightly frumpy, spotted in the smallish crowd on McLaughlin's funeral service live stream.

The YT live stream's chat room was crashed by a number of vicious, alt.right, anti-semitic scums. They really are very different from traditional conservatives, aren't they?

That is all.

by Anonymousreply 178August 20, 2016 7:36 PM

I noticed Michelle Bernard sitting next to Eleanor. When they stood, she was twice the height of Eleanor.

by Anonymousreply 179August 20, 2016 8:09 PM

Who said the Mass? A Cardinal?

by Anonymousreply 180August 20, 2016 9:09 PM

Cardinal Donald Wuerl, the Archbishop of Washington, DC. appears not to have been present, R180.

by Anonymousreply 181August 22, 2016 7:36 PM

Morons yelling at each other. It was part of the dumbing down of American culture.

by Anonymousreply 182August 22, 2016 7:39 PM

I guess Donna didn't approve of McLaughlin leaving the priesthood.

by Anonymousreply 183August 22, 2016 8:00 PM

Amy Walter, that lesbipunit for whatever the Cook Report is, would be a great moderator for a conservative replacement show. She has that certain cuntability that I loathe and love in a moderator.

Now that MichFest is no more, she should be available for a part time job.

by Anonymousreply 184August 22, 2016 8:41 PM

Looks like it's back from the dead, not John McLaughlin of course.

by Anonymousreply 185August 17, 2017 1:36 AM

They should have let it die.

by Anonymousreply 186August 17, 2017 1:49 AM

Happy to see somewhat civil discourse return.

by Anonymousreply 187August 17, 2017 2:12 AM

I hope the pilot sells.

by Anonymousreply 188August 18, 2017 6:26 AM

R188 Let's hope so.

by Anonymousreply 189August 18, 2017 7:58 AM

I didn't really like Tom Rogan as the moderator. He didn't do himself any favors when he started spouting McLaughlin-isms, such as the "metaphysical certitude" question. John was a deranged character and could get away with it, but it sounded stupid coming from Rogan.

by Anonymousreply 190September 2, 2017 4:00 AM

r184, you could not have hit the cunty lesbian squarely on the head of her lesbian overcut head.

Amy Walter is the face of conservative lesbians of today.

I get that she is sad that she cannot kick Hillary in the cunt anymore.

Michfest nutloaf.

by Anonymousreply 191September 2, 2017 4:27 AM

WRONG!!!

by Anonymousreply 192December 9, 2017 5:32 PM

Freddy the Beatle Barnes

Mor-Tawn Kondrake

PJB!! Or, PAT! Or, Patrick? (Pat Buchanan)

by Anonymousreply 193December 9, 2017 7:08 PM

Returns Jan 7 with Tom Rogan as the moderator. Won't be the same, but I'll be glad to see Eleanor and Clarence Page again.

I’ll give it a try

by Anonymousreply 195December 25, 2017 10:24 PM

Haven't watched it in years. Mostly nostalgia.

by Anonymousreply 196December 25, 2017 10:29 PM

I find the Sunday morning news are becoming flaccid, boring affairs. It's like they're afraid they won't get any guests if they get too mean. Almost as pointless as The View: a tedious recap of the previous week.

Yeah, read that already. Thanks.

by Anonymousreply 197December 25, 2017 10:43 PM

Mort on the right of me. Mort on the left of me. I’m Mort-ified!

by Anonymousreply 198December 26, 2017 12:09 AM

Oh, this is wonderful Christmas news!! I have really missed the show.

Wish someone other than Tom Rogan were moderating, but whatever.

by Anonymousreply 199December 26, 2017 12:17 AM

On a scale of one to ten, one being immediate cancellation and ten being certifiable epic and Emmy-winning success for all time, I ask you Eleanor Clift.

by Anonymousreply 200December 26, 2017 6:09 PM

Where is the new version playing?

by Anonymousreply 201January 7, 2018 5:21 PM

ABC station in Washington. Don't think PBS has picked it up. It's streaming on the McLaughlin website, tho.

by Anonymousreply 202January 7, 2018 5:32 PM

Thanks for the link. I missed it especially now when Cheeto tries to run DC.

by Anonymousreply 203January 7, 2018 6:42 PM

The moderator is awful, and it looks like the set has shrunk in half. They are practically sitting on each other.

by Anonymousreply 204January 7, 2018 7:19 PM

Did this revamped version of the show go belly up? Haven't seen a new episode since the end-of-year awards in December.

The website says something being on hiatus, but they will be bigger and better in 2019.
