The Opie & Anthony Divorce

Was the split for real? Will the B-b-b-b-boys ever-ever-ever get back together? Will Jimmy ever see his parents reunite?

Next month will be a year since Ant got fired, then subsequently arrested and disgraced, and O&A went off the air. I know it's still too Sad & Real for all of us, but consider---could this be one big Con? A way to keep fans invested in the Trio for an eventual podcast format show? They've done shittier things before, and they need each other to succeed.

BREAKING!! Yesterday Reddit SKEWERED Anthony, when evidence emerged earlier in the week that he has befriended and shared rooms with adorable Chaturbate model transgirl Sue Lightning.

Anthony hit back that fans were 'bashing' his friend, and accused them of 'cruelty' and 'hate speech'.

[quote] This sub has again shown itself to be pure class. My friendships with anyone regardless of who they are isn't your business but I get it. I'm a public figure. Bashing people because they are my friend is another story. Some of you are just horrid cruel people with no other goals than to try and hurt or destroy people. You come here and treat genuine cruelty like a video game. I've addressed your latest "find". I have no problem with it. If having been friends with Sue is a problem or funny for you sorry, I can't help you there. But again, some of you are putrid little trolls trying to inflict damage in people's lives. People you have no clue about. I bet if I posted this and some of the topics here outside of this sub a lot of people would have this sub slammed shut in no time for "hate speech". You HAVE to know that's very possible in today's climate. Hmmm, maybe I will.

This, from the very same man famous for his racist, homophobic, misogynistic comedy stylings that specifically target minority groups, including Trans. Reddit did not let this hypocrisy slide, and unleashed on Ant. The results are hilarious.

[quote] Ant, you're bitchmade.

[quote] WE LEARNED IT FROM YOU, DAD!

[quote] "Gays running rampant." - Anthony Cumia

[quote] Has Anthony spun this into a political or black thing yet?

[quote] Ant, have you been hacked? I'd seriously consider that excuse.

[quote] The students have become the Master...

[quote] Et tu, pissy eyes?

[quote] Ant. This is a safe and supportive place for you to come out.

[quote] We all love Sue. She can take a joke better than shock jocks apparently.

[quote] Thanks, I was on the fence about whether you fucked her until you posted this.

[quote] It's "entertainment" when he does it, but "cruelty" when we do.

[quote] I'm pretty sure we're all ok with Sue. It's you we have the problem with, just own it, mahhhnn!

[quote] What a weird criticism coming from a man who's about to be locked up for strangling a 70lb girl.

[quote] "Hi, reddit? Yeah, it's me, Anthony Cumia, woman-beating racist pederast. Listen, there's this subreddit..."

[quote] The irony of you having a free speech platform shut down for a bullshit hate speech complaint is just too much.

[quote] You honestly have zero moral authority to complain about people being gratuitously mean. Seriously, the last person.

[quote] Who is bashing your transsexual friend? I thought we were all bashing you for being a closet Queen and a hypocrite.

[quote] Holy fuck this is gold. he's become the soundbytes he used to tool on to create an audience in the first place. Pure entertainment.

[quote] Aside from the high hat, eye-gouging hypocrisy, pseudo-chivalry, disingenuous claims of transparency (tss), and casual threats, I thought it was a yeoman's effort.

[quote] He didn't seem to mind our running with the Dani-beating story, but he's upset about us teasing him for making sweet love to a very nice, cool young transsexual lady.

[quote] Get us shut down for hate speech, if you want, but remember, you did laugh as your former partner Opie cried over your lost friendship. Maybe you're the cruel one?

[quote] Don't act like this is "hate speech", this is your old radio show's audience being funny. You really have us pegged wrong, which is surprising considering you have so much practice.

Part 2:

[quote] Willingly spending time with BroJoe is the fucking worst and most classless thing about you, despite you being a racist, woman-beating, professional dickhead.

[quote] We like Sue. She handled this with more class than your whiny bitch, threatening ass. You don't think John or Jeff was pissed you outed his mysterious vacation? On a national show? Fuck off, hypocrite.

[quote] I love that even after all the mockery, not one person here can recall whether it was John or Jeff that took the "exotic trips".

[quote] You survived Times Square barely because you weren't worth Al Sharpton and the NAACP hopping on your ass, but keep up the bullshit you two faced loser and see what hell you unleash upon the last vestiges of your career.

[quote] But seriously your rank hypocrisy is, in your words, astounding. And there's no malice, you dope. It's pure humor, and this has been a fucking hilarious 24 hours. Unless you're an aging shock jock with a secret.

[quote] What you're doing right now is so beyond comprehension I'm not sure what to say. Have you lost your fucking mind, Anthony? Your neo-con ass is threatening censorship and screaming bullying? I'm speechless.

[quote] Didn't Ant also say he fought for intern Troy Quan not to be fired after his on-air homophobic tirade? Troy threatened to beat up a guy because he was gay. You don't get more hateful speech than that and Ant proudly defended it.

[quote] You think any of us have a problem with Sue? I think most of us think she's pretty fucking hot and really wouldn't have a problem if you were fucking her. Hell, she addressed the rumors without a problem and we all mentioned how cool she seemed. It's your ridiculous panic to delete any trace of the relationship and shit like this post here we're making fun of. We're laughing at you, not the hot tranny who likes fucking video games.

[quote] In an entire world filled with hypocrite fucks, you are perhaps the biggest hypocrite I have ever seen. You're worthless and weak. You have gossamer thin skin and you made your living ripping the shit out of people. I hope all of them are tuning in for this because you deserve it so much more than any of them ever did. When you CREATE a monster, don't be surprised when it fucking turns around to rip your face off, asshole.

[quote] There is nothing we want more than for you to personally put this all out there. The sub might get shut down, but that would be the icing on the cake for you to make sure everyone knows your ex-girlfriend suspects your Pendulum swings both ways.

[quote] Guy up on strangulation, criminal mischief, unlawful imprisonment, and assault charges kicks things off by using the phrase "pure class".

[quote] Exploiting Lady Di, an alcoholic in her final years before death for some laughs, exploiting countless other homeless/retarded people etc. These examples are just a drop in the sea of 'Cruelty' you inflicted or helped to inflict upon others. Are you seriously trying to act like you have the moral highground here? Holy motherfucking shit. Go fuck your mother if you are really serious about what you just posted you undereducated has-been ghoul.

[quote] How many Jocktober jocks ended up crying over the horrible shit that was done to them on social media while you guys laughed your asses off? How many callers got bashed on the O&A show for absolutely no reason other than they happened to get the show's attention somehow? How many times did you send the 'pests' out on a mission against someone you guys were having a stupid feud with? What about Terry Clifford? Todd Pettingill? Whoopi Goldberg? Anthony Wiener? John & Jeff? You used to play the game -- the game YOU invented -- now you're acting like a little bitch because the pests are having some fun at your expense.

Opie & Jimmy are still on the air at Sirius, and they still talk about Anthony. Don't dream it's Ovah?

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 11April 5, 2016 10:08 PM

I used to listen to O&A when they first moved to XM/Sirius. I remember them fighting on the air at least 8 years ago, with Opie saying the show had run its course with them as a team. He kept saying that they don't even really like each other any more and he's thinking other options for the future. Anthony argued that the show could go on, but Opie was being really low-key but adamant that he was ready to move on. Opie had the attitude that he was the radio "professional" who would have no problem holding on to an audience - really snobby.

I guess they squashed it, cause the show went on for another X years. But I remember thinking how full of himself Opie was - he was so condescending talking like he could not wait to unburden himself from the weight of Anthony. But with these guys, you gotta wonder if that was a bit back then, for press.

by Anonymousreply 12April 7, 2016 4:17 PM

It was an ugly mess indeed, R12, and it really soured the listening experience. But, it was compelling too. Unlikely it was a bit; while Opie's schtick over the years was the Asshole Leader of the program, it does seem at times like Opie feels superior to Anthony in many ways irl (Anthony does not have the stable family life or responsibilities that Opie does, and Opie doesn't have addiction issues and doesn't sexually pursue minors like Anthony). In the end, who knows which of those scumbags was telling the truth, or in the wrong? They deserve each other, tbh.

They sniped at each other back and forth over Twitter and later on-air just a year after breakup, and fans tore Opie apart on Reddit after he cried live on broadcast calling Anthony 'his best friend'. Either Opie has attachment problems when it comes Ant, or it was a disingenuous display. The best part was Jimmy Norton calling them both 'you two fuckin' Pariahs'. I wonder if it has really helped Norton's career overall, being on O&A?

The Gay History bit is a fun oddity, if you can overlook the phobic slurs. Ben Franklin's gay experiences are such a bizarre, funny thing to ponder. Opie explains the joke to death, of course.

[quote] NORTON: Paul Revere....'the British are coming!' He meant that literally, it wasn't a warning [...] 'The British and their 2-gallon capacity ball-bags are coming! Open up!'

Is Opie still cute? Anthony looks old in those photos.

by Anonymousreply 18April 10, 2016 10:43 PM

Interesting you should ask, R18.

I always wondered why Opie never worked his 'cute' angle more. He isn't as naturally funny, well-read or depraved as Jimmy or Anthony, so his trump cards have always been his vicious 'shock' jockery, and his blond Himbo appeal. His personality and his looks are an extreme dichotomy; who would think such a cruel and ambitious Jock was beneath such a cute, sweet, babyface veneer? Maybe that's why he always got away with the antics he did.

This was him around 10 years ago, in his early 40's. I'll try and find a current pic or some footage for comparison.

by Anonymousreply 20April 10, 2016 11:05 PM

Not that anyone cares but to clarify - Opie's legendary assholery IS a talent, in some kind of a way. His headline-grabbing Theater of the Mind bits got the show its 'Edgy' reputation, and possibly syndication. The humor of Evil Opie transcends barriers and can be enjoyed by all, and the quintessential and deeply authentic bitchiness of Gregg/The Opester only lends credence to the Act.

Opie didn't like Anthony's long-term girlfriend back in the early 00's, and so continually verbally trashed her in front of guests and co-workers until she broke up with Ant out of sheer humiliation. Anthony resented Opie's wife to the point he skipped their wedding and froze her out at functions (he also never met Opie's kids).

[quote] CAN WE TALK A LITTLE MORE ABOUT BREASTS?: Shock Jocks Opie & Anthony go National: Monday, July 23, 2001 - You might not think people would choose to listen to conversations in a frat house. Yet every afternoon Opie and Anthony spend four hours calling each other gay, drooling over hot moms and barraging women to "whip 'em out." It's not even a carefully constructed frat chat: an hour before airtime, six staff members, all guys, sit around watching Jackass, shooting baskets and occasionally surfing news websites. They're less like people preparing for a radio show than people waiting for a pizza. The office even looks like a frat house. Porno tapes line the bookshelves; Opie's desk, littered with such research...

R18, comedian and oftentime O&A guest Colin Quinn once perfectly described Ant as looking like a 'back-alley Tunisian knife-fighter' or a 'Corsican pimp'. I would have gone with 'hoary lookout of a ghostly pirate ship' as a third option.

If you like constant shouting matches peppered with racist and homophobic remarks and have the burning desire to be a domestic violence survivor, then by all means date Italian guys.

by Anonymousreply 31April 14, 2016 2:13 PM

Anthony's nutty youngling ex Dani made that mistake, R31. According to her, cops told her she wasn't needed at Ant's recent trial as the police themselves pressed charges (the state of New York has a mandatory arrest Law for felonies in a domestic abuse case). The strangulation charge got Ant pulled up, so presumably police walked in at a bad/good time? Hoping they don't just let him skate on some misdemeanour /'3rd degree threat' shit, or court-ordered anger management/sensitivity training paid by a fine of a mere bag of shells.

The kicker is that the arrest Law gets repealed next year. This is all so timely, like the stars aligning.

[quote] 4. Notwithstanding any other provisions of this section, a police officer shall arrest a person, and shall not attempt to reconcile the parties or mediate, where such officer has reasonable cause to believe that: (a) a felony, other than subdivision three, four, nine or ten of section 155.30 of the penal law, has been committed by such person against a member of the same family or household, as member of the same family or household is defined in subdivision one of section 530.11 of this chapter;

Things changed after producer Steve C. committed suicide in his early 30's. O&A used to mercilessly trash and humiliate him on air (bashing him for 'latent gayness'), and it's obvious guilt still haunts them both. Just a theory but the tragedy may have had a hand in the show losing listeners and the duo breaking up.

Steve had his work cut out trying to control that mess. Apparently even Interns used to give him attitude. It's a shame, he seemed like the only nice and level-headed person on the show. Ya think you know a guy,

Opie is furious that his intern/whipping boy Sammy has now undercut him and taken on his morning slot (good for Sam, he's been working toward his own show for over a decade). Just a guess but Opie's superiority complex might be the reason Opie could work well with Anthony, who has a classic victim/inferiority complex. Anthony happily let Opie take charge (as Opie was the more entitled one) while Opie was comfortable around Anthony because he didn't have to fear rejection from the scuzzy deviant. The 'chemistry' they're always pointing to is simply that they are both cracked in similar places.

It doesn't even matter if it all works out this time, either, because that loveable acid-tongued guru Patrice is no longer here to drop his jewel. While Sammy is a cunning twink (as were some of the Interns like Danny), and Steve was a good man, the reality is Patrice was the only insightful one on the show.

The weirdest part is the timing of this recent reunion.

Anthony's highly-publicised divorce took 2.5 years to get a settlement. Until last week it was just shy of 2.5 years since Opie & Anthony last spoke on-air...spooky. Anthony was with his wife for 10 years and 'with' Opie for 20.

So you could say gentlemen prefer blonds, but that would falsely imply Anthony is a gentleman.

These two old wash-ups were gossiping like hens about the election yesterday. The usual empty hacky blather but with a few interesting comments.

They both watched the results on Fox (ofc) and call themselves 'libertarian' but lean Conservative. Ant voted Don while Opie plead no-dog-in-the-race (he flaked on account of his 'sports curse', where the team he supports in a given year spend the season choking). Both admired Obama's parting address, and felt there was little point in either of them voting because New York. They both like Trump personally and can't believe they've hosted the now-president. They reminisce how they enjoyed heckling him when he came on their Sirius show (Don called them 'dopes' and exploded on their callers) and Ant calls Trump's incendiary remarks 'calculated'. Opie claims that he occasionally 'texts' Trump Jnr. and spoke to him over the summer (yikes) and notes that he saw some of his other Sirius XM colleagues 'crying at their desks' as he came into work yesterday morning. Opie: "I like to Shock & Awe". Oh.

Comedian 'Bob' Kelly had a thing for intern-turned-producer Sam, and daubed him his 'Convertible Boy'.

Intern Sean was their best intern as they had no idea what to do with him. He was an unapologetic hipster, young and feminine and moody and not at all one of the 'Boys'. That this sensitive prettyboy had gorgeous women mobbing him (and multiple girlfriends at once) while O&A had to create a ruckus to get girls to even notice their existence caused a lot of tension in the studio. They called Sean 'twink' a lot, likened him to Johnny Weir, and tried to get their other intern at the time (Troy) to sext Sean's girlfriend. O&A were scummy as hell to this guy, so the hope is he got into a good college and makes 6-figs now.

Seems like every radio personality has a book in him - Howard Stern is supposedly writing one, and his former staff members KC Armstrong and Stuttering John Melendez have books out now. I listened to O&A for a few years, between stints of being a Howard fan, and was around for a lot of the O&A drama, like the St Pat's scandal, their fights w/Howard, their firings, the famous on-air fight between O&A. Just saw that Anthony has written a book too, and it opens the door on a lot of stuff that I didn't even know about. Here's a description:

The uncensored and long-awaited life story of radio's most notorious shock jock, Anthony Cumia. Today, Anthony Cumia is the co-host of the wildly popular "Anthony Cumia Show," which live-streams to a huge following of paid subscribers; however, Anthony is most well-known from the legendary, nationally syndicated "Opie and Anthony Show." Permanently Suspended is an all-access pass to the controversial mayhem that ensued on-and-off the air.

A must-read for all diehard O&A fans, Permanently Suspended finally answers the questions that everyone has been waiting for: What really happened between Opie and Anthony? What was the reasoning behind the multiple firings? What prompted the tweeting about the Times Square NYC incident? What is the true account of the controversial allegations? What are the never-before-revealed details of Anthony's stint in rehab? What does the future hold for his livestream podcast? These questions, and many more, will be answered.

Permanently Suspended is a humorous, no-holds-barred account of the legendary career and life of Anthony Cumia'a blue collar guy who made his dreams come true, rising above all obstacles to become one of the most well-known and successful personalities in radio history.

I stopped listening when it was Opie and Jim, but I know about the bitterness between O&A after their split. I'm a little curious to read some of Anthony's dirt but I'm not so interested to buy this book. Anyone read it? Please spill if you have.

I thought this was the kind of thing that only white trash from the Northeast cared about?

You're wrong - I'm black trash.

R62 good for you not buying that garbage. I haven’t bought or read it and never will but some good egg posted the first pages up on the sub (at the link) if you’re morbidly curious.

Read and laugh along with hundreds of others at Anthony’s expense. From what I gather the book has been found to be factually incorrect and very poorly written (the standard of a bad term paper).

It’s two weeks ‘til Christmas and Anthony is bombing harder than his beloved Fuhrer, which means..

Aren't these 2 some racist assholes?

I don't listen to Ant's podcast - what's he doing these days R66? I remember his messed up life back on XM, with the various young, messed up girlfriends and his drinking, guns and racism. I know he tried Artie Lange as co-host for a while too, so I know his judgment is still iffy. So what foolishness is he up to now?

I don’t even know where to start, R68. I’ll just direct you to /o&areddit and wish you luck. It would take an entire 600 reply thread (which would get banned) to cover it.

Spoilers: it will include T-camgirls, sex toys, Storm front, racial assault, sexual assault, incest and cat-fishing. Oh, and Ant lost his all guns by court order. He’s making Fez Whatley look functional by comparison. Enjoy.

R67 nah. Opie’s not a racist.

Funny, to look at them without knowing you’d imagine the opposite were true.
