I just watched the American Masters program on her.
My parents loved Tapestry but I never realized how many hit songs she had written.

I love Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann in this show.
They were HUGE songwriters, but I love how they talk about the testing for the Broadway show Beautiful. It was supposed to be about how they and Goffin and King were rivals, but the test audiences were all about, "Where is Tapestry?"
They say: "We realized that we were Fed and Ethel and Carole and Gerry were Lucy and Desi."
That is very cool that they would have that kind of sense of humor about it.

she made the Earth. Move. Under my feet!
by Anonymous | reply 2 | February 22, 2016 1:57 AM |
She seems really, really nice. But she always scored dick out of her league, which always leads to heartache.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | February 22, 2016 1:58 AM |
I think the introduction of this song is some of the prettiest music ever.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | February 22, 2016 2:00 AM |
This is a great short interview with her. He asks all the right questions.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | February 22, 2016 2:00 AM |
She sure made some poor decisions when it came to men. Nice to see her daughter was good natured about it.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | February 22, 2016 2:02 AM |
Her daughter is really beautiful and seems to have a wonderful sense of humor.
"Davy Jones was the perfect height for a 6 year old."
by Anonymous | reply 7 | February 22, 2016 2:03 AM |
She's supposedly a prickly interview, and had HIDEOUS taste in men, and that's about all that's wrong with the lady.
Rogers and Hammerstein, Lennon and McCartney, Barry and Greenwich, Jagger and Richards, Mann and Weil. And you could DEFINITELY make a case for Goffin and King besting them all.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | February 22, 2016 2:10 AM |
Her autobiography makes me think she is very nice, but never got over being the "ugly" girl.
She devoted her life (and money) to scoring younger and younger hotter dick.
I admire that.

Some of us had looks AND talent.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | February 22, 2016 2:20 AM |
R11 You were definitely more attractive. I also think you wrote much better lyrics. And I think you are now not given the regard you are are due.
But when you compare Carole's collection of songs to yours, you really come up short for songs that made a huge mark on our culture.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | February 22, 2016 2:29 AM |
She has a really big nose.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | February 22, 2016 2:36 AM |
R13 And you have a really small penis.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | February 22, 2016 2:37 AM |
How many songs have had such amazing powerhouses of music on one song?
Carole King, James Taylor, and Joni Mitchell.

But for some reason Americans seem averse to taking out teeth when people have too many or they're too large for their mouths. Apparently it's because they can charge more cos it takes longer.

I was lucky enough to see her with James Taylor in 2010 on their Troubadour tour in 2010. She was 68 at the time. She is very short, probably around 5'2", and she came out wearing these boots with at least 4 inch heels. She was dancing around, standing up playing piano...totally full of energy. It was amazing. She has a very endearing quality about her. And she is an extraordinary pianist.
Love all her songs, and glad that she seems so happy now. Gerry Goffin, however, had a very sad life.

R16 Anyone who doesn't think Carly Simon in the 70s was beautiful is CRAZY.
She was hot to death.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | February 22, 2016 2:41 AM |
Oops! I meant WASN'T beautiful.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | February 22, 2016 2:42 AM |
Thanks, hun.

Carly, go have "special bonding time" with Ben.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | February 22, 2016 2:43 AM |
R22 Julia Roberts is an insufferable cunt, but she was a HUGE movie star known of her beauty. So comparing her to Carly is hardly an insult.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | February 22, 2016 2:46 AM |
For someone with a lot of talent, Carly Simon was very beautiful:
by Anonymous | reply 24 | February 22, 2016 2:48 AM |
R19, you had it right in R18.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | February 22, 2016 2:49 AM |
I never got around to buying HELLO, BIG MAN until recently, R24, and I was surprised to find so many good songs on it. But this is Carole's thread, so I'll just say "Orpheus." Oh, and the title song.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | February 22, 2016 2:50 AM |
R26 Orpheus is a GREAT song.
Of course, the title song is total BS, as Carly later admitted. Her parents had a horrible marriage. Her mother had a college student half her age live in their house and fuck her, while her husband sat downstairs and drunk himself into a stupor.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | February 22, 2016 2:53 AM |
She released a bunch of her demos a few years ago. They're worth checking out.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | February 22, 2016 2:53 AM |
I'm glad Joni isn't as prominent on "Will You Love Me Tomorrow?" as Mick Jagger is on ... you know.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | February 22, 2016 2:55 AM |
Did you read her autobiography, R28? Her mother was awful. I guess we wouldn't have had "That's the Way I've Always Heard It Should Be" otherwise, though.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | February 22, 2016 2:58 AM |
R29 Carole KIng's demos were so polished because she not only wrote the songs but did all the arrangements. There wasn't much left for the singer to do.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | February 22, 2016 2:59 AM |
R31 Carly Simon seems to think her mother was awful as she includes accusations that her mother was a whore who killed her father in the book.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | February 22, 2016 3:00 AM |
Do you know otherwise, r33?
by Anonymous | reply 34 | February 22, 2016 3:07 AM |
Carly Simon was neither beautiful or particularly talented. She had good hair and a beautiful husband.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | February 22, 2016 3:15 AM |
CAROLE KING, YOU WHORES.
THIS THREAD IS ABOUT CAROLE FUCKING KING.
No more talking about Carly "I only have a career because I sucked a lot of old man cock and had a father in publishing" Simon.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | February 22, 2016 3:17 AM |
Yes, I DID do background vocals on "Attitude Dancing," back when I didn't know any better.
Twat was HORRIBLE to my buddy J.T., so I haven't even spoken her name since their divorce.
Oy. Can we get back to ME now, please?
by Anonymous | reply 37 | February 22, 2016 3:18 AM |
R36, no one will even like you tomorrow.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | February 22, 2016 3:18 AM |
Attitude Dancing was such a bad song.
It shows what a nice person Carole is to do background vocals on it.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | February 22, 2016 3:22 AM |
YES R42!
That was FLAWLESS!
by Anonymous | reply 43 | February 22, 2016 3:26 AM |
Two months later and that still brings me to tears. A lovely, lovely moment.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | February 22, 2016 3:29 AM |
R44, you're being an unfunny asshole.
There's now a Carly thread. Can you not take your Carly chat there?
Or do you have to just be the turd in the punchbowl?

As opposed to what, R47?
by Anonymous | reply 49 | February 22, 2016 4:49 PM |
That mess of mixing Grace Slick and others into the story.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | February 22, 2016 4:51 PM |
Well, tbh, r50, it wasn't the Carole King story any more than Carole King married Brian Wilson.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | February 22, 2016 4:58 PM |
Grace of My Heart would have been more interesting if it had followed Carole's real life, married to a drug addict who beat her.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | February 22, 2016 7:03 PM |
I didn't realize Carole was in an abusive marriage. Very sad.

The MusiCares tribute to Carole King was a great night. The usual suspects, Gloria Estefan and James Taylor did their familiar thing and songs. Pink, Lady Gaga and the legends from Twenty Feet From Stardom stole the night. Martina McBride and Leann Rimes with Steven Tyler are standouts too. No Aretha, Alicia Keys sings Natural Woman. The sound is a bit out of synch and the room was lazy but there is a good band and some great performances. Way Over Yonder by Merry Clayton, Darlene Love and Lisa Fischer show just how gospel that song is. Gaga sounds fantastic and is heartfelt but like always is a bit self indulgent. Carole and James Taylor finish the night.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | February 23, 2016 2:29 AM |
Who is this song about? Elton John being married to a woman and being gay? Or Elton getting a huge ego in the 1970s?
by Anonymous | reply 57 | May 11, 2018 8:49 PM |
She's a brilliant talent when it comes to songwriting and have a nice enough voice too. She seems very insecure because she's plain, which a singing star isn't really "allowed" to be. Which is a fucking shame.
