Gay Men Still Wearing Mall Clothes In Their 40's

I know so many gay men over 40 who are still wearing logo t-shirts from mall stores like Hollister, American Eagle, A&F, etc. They also wear those t-shirts that teenagers wear that have a flame design on the front or have a skull and bones. It's sad and embarrassing to watch. They also still go clubbing at least 3 times a week.

Does anyone know why these guys refuse to grow up and dress/act more sophisticated? And do they have no idea how ridiculous they look?

by Anonymousreply 272July 3, 2022 8:29 PM

Having a bad day, OP...???

by Anonymousreply 1February 20, 2016 3:28 AM

I see. So, after 40, all gay men should just dig a hole and bury themselves in it...???

by Anonymousreply 2February 20, 2016 3:30 AM

I've recently found in my mid 30s that when I look at clothes I like in the shop, my first thought is "mutton" so have changed my style accordingly. You can still look good and be age appropriate.

by Anonymousreply 3February 20, 2016 3:34 AM

No one should be wearing A&F at any age.

by Anonymousreply 4February 20, 2016 3:37 AM

I was agreeing with you OP until you added that they go clubbing three times a week.

How could you possibly know that? You can judge their clothes by looking at them but once they leave your sight you have no idea what they do or don't do.

Really undermines your post...

by Anonymousreply 5February 20, 2016 3:39 AM

Girls just wanna have fun.

by Anonymousreply 6February 20, 2016 3:44 AM

Oh please, not every 40 something gay man has a six figure income and wants to run around in a suit all day. What a hetero cliche. Sounds more like the OP is afraid to get old.

by Anonymousreply 7February 20, 2016 3:45 AM

R5 Did you not read what I wrote? I said I KNOW them. I should've made it clear that SOME of the ones I know (acquaintances, friends of friends, etc.) still go clubbing three times a week by their own admission.

R7 Nobody said anything about having to wear a suit and tie all day. This is about how you can look good and be comfortable without looking like you're desperately trying to look cool to the twinks.

by Anonymousreply 8February 20, 2016 3:49 AM

Just what exactly is sophisticated? Tommy Bahama Hawaiian Shirts? Or full suite and tie on hot summer days? Neither is a great option.

by Anonymousreply 9February 20, 2016 3:50 AM

Why isn't the world exactly the way I want it to be?!

whaaaaaaaaa....

by Anonymousreply 10February 20, 2016 3:51 AM

OP needs to get a life and stop meddling on everyone else's.

by Anonymousreply 11February 20, 2016 3:53 AM

OP what should I wear? I'm 65 and still wearing A&F

by Anonymousreply 12February 20, 2016 3:54 AM

OP sounds like a complete fool. He probably is a waiter, too.

by Anonymousreply 13February 20, 2016 3:55 AM

LMAO! Looks like I touched a nerve with a lot of the old gays who apparently wear the same shit!

Thanks for proving my point!

You should just...disappear from the planet!!! Ewww!!

by Anonymousreply 19February 20, 2016 4:20 AM

I dont know any queens over 40 that go clubbing 3 nights a week. Most of the guys I know gave that up years ago and meeting at a gay bar for a drink is like pulling hair. Do you live in NY? Those queens are delusional so I could see that happening there. But thats no different then all the rich Fraus there that have a ton of plastic surgery and wear the same clothes as their daughters so they will get the " you look like sisters" fake compliment.

by Anonymousreply 20February 20, 2016 4:23 AM

OP = gay men over 40 should heard not seen.

by Anonymousreply 21February 20, 2016 4:24 AM

The OP is jealous that these other guys wearing the same cloths he dose brings down the "exclusive" look he has shopping off the rack.

by Anonymousreply 22February 20, 2016 4:25 AM

That's a 3 oh dearer, R22.

by Anonymousreply 23February 20, 2016 4:28 AM

OP, you are a twat.

by Anonymousreply 24February 20, 2016 4:28 AM

R26, they dress funny for waiters.

by Anonymousreply 27February 20, 2016 4:37 AM

[quote]LMAO! Looks like I touched a nerve with a lot of the old gays who apparently wear the same shit!

Once again, OP is casting extremely shallow judgement on others based on pure conjecture. How old is he?

by Anonymousreply 28February 20, 2016 4:42 AM

The truth is, as you get older you stop caring about superficial things like clubbing, buying music, and the latest fashion trends. Most older people do not pay attention to fashion like younger people. There is a reason for this, its not that they dont care, it that they realize worrying about fashion is just as ridiculous as clubbing. Its something you learn when you grow up OP. You buy clothes that fit you, are comfortable and look nice. You dont need to impress anyone including younger twinks who think specific brands are for them and only them.

by Anonymousreply 29February 20, 2016 4:42 AM

I have a couple of pairs of Johnny Ramone Vans. I know I'm too old to wear them, but I can't make myself get rid of them. I could see as time goes on and I begin to slip a little, you might see me out and around in them.

by Anonymousreply 30February 20, 2016 4:44 AM

I wear my old cha cha heels to feel young again.

by Anonymousreply 31February 20, 2016 4:45 AM

I should add, apologies in advance, OP.

by Anonymousreply 32February 20, 2016 4:45 AM

[quote] I have a couple of pairs of Johnny Ramone Vans. I know I'm too old to wear them, but I can't make myself get rid of them. I could see as time goes on and I begin to slip a little, you might see me out and around in them.

Aww, no one is too old to wear Ramones anything. I bet you can name more Ramones songs than half the young people wearing their t-shirts.

by Anonymousreply 33February 20, 2016 4:49 AM

I got too fat for my caftans.

by Anonymousreply 34February 20, 2016 4:51 AM

by Anonymousreply 42February 20, 2016 6:40 AM

OP, just because you have an old and small mind doesnt mean everyone else should too. If they want to wear youthful clothes and do youthful things, cool for them. When I get their age, I want to be ageless and not care about notions that you should act old just because of your age. I am anti=ageism already, and could not care less about living up to someone's expectation about age. I say more power to the youthful people.

by Anonymousreply 43February 20, 2016 6:45 AM

No such luck R42, men are now buying women's skinny jeans. Since when did men's legs start looking like a set of chop sticks?

by Anonymousreply 45February 20, 2016 6:57 AM

When I am an old woman I shall wear purple

With a red hat which doesn't go, and doesn't suit me.

And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves

And satin sandals, and say we've no money for butter.

I shall sit down on the pavement when I'm tired

And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells

And run my stick along the public railings

And make up for the sobriety of my youth.

I shall go out in my slippers in the rain

And pick flowers in other people's gardens

And learn to spit.

You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat

And eat three pounds of sausages at a go

Or only bread and pickle for a week

And hoard pens and pencils and beermats and things in boxes.

But now we must have clothes that keep us dry

And pay our rent and not swear in the street

And set a good example for the children.

We must have friends to dinner and read the papers.

But maybe I ought to practice a little now?

So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised

When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.

The Carousel turned long ago for most of the people on this board. Gaylings would love it though. No one over 30, sex shops, instant laser makeover, rug rats kept in quarantine parts of the city, pink drugs, and an in home transporter used as a grinder-esk hook up device. by Anonymousreply 51February 20, 2016 10:51 AM

by Anonymousreply 52February 20, 2016 10:52 AM

by Anonymousreply 57February 20, 2016 11:21 AM

That was nice r46, thank you.

by Anonymousreply 58February 20, 2016 11:22 AM

Aren't brands like A&F and Hollister very early-2000s? These unfortunate men are probably just going with the clothing habits they acquired in their first great moment of personal authenticity, back in their 20s—they might even be wearing some of the same items, not having yet worn out that notoriously durable apparel. It's hard to see that one is in a rut, let alone break out of it and betake oneself to a J. Crew or Banana Republic or whatever is more age-appropriate. Just like changing one's hairdo.

by Anonymousreply 59February 20, 2016 11:22 AM

A real man wears what he wants to, at any age.

by Anonymousreply 60February 20, 2016 11:28 AM

Dressing age-appropriate is a delicate balancing act.

by Anonymousreply 61February 20, 2016 11:42 AM

If you want to be realist R53, older men are mostly relegated to those two types of clothes. Suites, and tacky island wear. Everything else is marketed to younger men. And yes, there are cool things out there beside those two options or trying to look 20, but then again, I am buying cloths that twinks consider off limits, just for them ageist attitude. You are probably the snotty clerk in the mall that thinks his job is a social event and not a business establishment trying to make a profit.

by Anonymousreply 62February 20, 2016 11:47 AM

Gramps @ R62, you need to learn about some appropriate options for older men. Let me help you. I don't mind walking little old ladies across the street. This is a good place to start:

by Anonymousreply 64February 20, 2016 12:29 PM

Really R46? I'm 99% sure that whoever posted that cringe inducing "red hat" poem intended it as satire. At least I hope so.

Any sane person would cross the street to avoid some old, obese, bag lady wearing a purple caftan and a red hat with mismatching gloves and satin sandals---who begs for food samples and eats them while sitting on the pavement when she isn't walking around town spitting in the street and running her cane along public fences.

What a frightening image.

by Anonymousreply 71February 20, 2016 12:53 PM

As long as these oldsters leave their tiaras and Depends at home let them go out. They provide an endless stream of entertainment to the twink set. There is nothing less sexy than seeing a botoxed up/Hair Club for Men member ripping up the dance floor to the latest Gaga track. It is far funnier than anything that loathsome Lena Dunham has ever done in her entire career.

by Anonymousreply 72February 20, 2016 12:54 PM

I love Ralph Lauren as and older guy. Especially the custom fit Polos. I am in still in decent shape so it show off my muscles without being over the top or obvious about it. Only works though if you dont have a belly. But even the cheapest shirt is almost $90. Banana Republic if case you didn't know is just a marked of version of the Gap. Same company, same factory, same child labor.

by Anonymousreply 73February 20, 2016 12:57 PM

I dont know about that R72, watching gay twinks first stab at what they think is hot is also quite amusing. In what planet did you hear tight silver daisy dukes looked good on a man? I am not exaggerating, drive down Santa Monica Blvd through West Hollywood some time around 10:00PM on a Saturday night. You can't tell which boys are doing drag, and which ones dont know they are doing drag.

by Anonymousreply 74February 20, 2016 1:03 PM

Here in the Midwest we all dress like the cast from "Oliver". I'd kill to see some age inappropriate wear just to make sure they are in shape.

by Anonymousreply 75February 20, 2016 1:18 PM

I know he's only in his mid 30s, but there's no denying David Gandy looks like he's in his 40s, and he always manages to look well dressed without dressing like a teenager.

by Anonymousreply 76February 20, 2016 3:26 PM

Can I wear zara?

by Anonymousreply 77February 20, 2016 3:38 PM

R74 Seeing doddering old queens trying to desperately act 18 again is so pathetic, humorous and ugly all at the same time. The difference between twinks and the old timers is that the twinks are being young fools whereas the tired old things are "acting" like young fools.

by Anonymousreply 78February 20, 2016 3:47 PM

Can I wear Forever 21?

by Anonymousreply 79February 20, 2016 3:48 PM

I would rather surround myself with close friends than go out to those loud, crowded clubs. And I love beer and a couple of cocktails, but getting wasted holds no interest for me anymore.

One of the best parts of getting older is not giving a fuck what anyone thinks.

Who needs to get dressed up to go to the store?

Who needs to get dressed up to walk their dog?

Who needs to get dressed up to pick up their kid at school?

Who is even looking at you that you would give two shits about? If I see someone dressed up to do something mundane I think to myself either, "Wow you must not have a lot of free time on your hands" or "You really still give a shit! Bravo!"

I'm not saying wear a t-shirt and shorts all the time. There is a time and a place to dress up. Relax. No one cares what you look like when you're picking up a script from Duane Reade or CVS. Shit.

by Anonymousreply 124February 20, 2016 8:30 PM

I'll agree with OP only to a certain point, I guess. It is a bit jarring to see men over (pick an age--35? ) wearing certain things: branded logos aimed at youth culture being one, the latest graphic tees being another.

I stopped advertising brands on my clothes when I hit about 35. I still wear some polls with little animals on them, but that's about it.

Having said that, a well-made sweatshirt or tee or pair of jeans from a mall store still works for me, as long as it doesn't scream out where it's from.

Mostly, I'm a jeans and blazer or khakis and button down type.

I never liked graphic Ts even when I was young, why should I pay to advertise your product. The only exception is a Polo, I buy those Ralph Lauren mostly for the fit. Not all polos fit the same, theirs are the best. Unfortuanly, they jumped on the bandwagon a few years ago and stated making them with a giant pony. I mean really giant!

If you simply cannot resort yourself to just worrying about yourself then I suggest looking down when you walk down the street. Perhaps just never leave your house, pumpkin.

Ugh. These judge queens worrying about everyone else... Someone else's age appropriate wardrobe couldn't possibly make your super life better, could it? Silly bitch

by Anonymousreply 141February 20, 2016 11:14 PM

R102 - Let me point out the obvious. The combined population of West Hollywood, Palm Springs and Fort Lauderdale is 253,958. Even if they are all gay men over 40 dressed as OP describes - that wouldn't be most or really even many.

by Anonymousreply 142February 20, 2016 11:21 PM

I'm pulling this off grandly, you jealous queens!

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 143February 20, 2016 11:27 PM

I agree with you that it'd look ridiculous but at the end of the day it's just clothes. if it makes them feel better about themselves wearing that then I'm all for it (unless it's "shorts" that display butt cheeks then hell no).

by Anonymousreply 144February 20, 2016 11:30 PM

I have been to Palm Springs many times, yes lost of daddies there but I didn't see any on mall clothes. They pretty much dressed like every other straight man there since most of people that live there are retired with lots of money. So that's what most of the stores cater too. Some of the bars there are specially for older gay men. They young gays stay out as they should.

West Hollywood on the other hand is a whole different story. Its full of vapid queens. When those vapid queens get older, they dont change. So you end up with young superficial narcissistic queens being mad at the older superficial narcissistic queens because they are taking up their space in the mirror. It's quite comical if you dont have to live there. Of coarse, they dont get the joke. They all think they are going to be the next big movie star, fashion designer, hairdresser to the stars just working at the bar until they get discovered.

Also the most pretentious group of gays in any city I have been to. Travel 5 miles east to Silver Lake or south to Long Beach and you get a totally different set of gay men. None of which shop at the Beverly Center Mall.

by Anonymousreply 145February 20, 2016 11:33 PM

Reading the hostile responses in this thread makes me realize there are a lot of men 40+ who obviously are angry that someone suggested they need to get rid of their Aeropostale clothes.

by Anonymousreply 146February 20, 2016 11:40 PM

The question, R146, that in retrospect---why did anyone buy Aeropostale clothes in the first place?

by Anonymousreply 147February 20, 2016 11:45 PM

No R146, the men 40 plus are angry that men who are 21 think they know everything and the wold should therefore abide by their rules. Just like a 14 year old thinks they know more about the world then their parents. Its annoying and when you are actually older, you see how ridiculous that attitude is and how little you actually know. You expect a guy in his 20s to be a little more adult and level headed.

by Anonymousreply 148February 21, 2016 12:33 AM

And by the way, who the fuck shops at Aeropostale? Is that chain store even open anymore?

by Anonymousreply 149February 21, 2016 12:34 AM

This question is moot unless you are a retail queen. Not all gay men give a rats ass about fashion. I know lost of young and older guys who dont get hung up on brands and labels. I usually steer clear label queens at parties. They are easy to spot even if you dont know fashion. Sooner or later they will start dropping names like LV, Gucci, Prada, TAG, and various luxury car brands. Then they proceed to tell you how they are not shallow and pretensions are because they just like these products for their good quality....which just happen to have a big label. OP sounds like a retail queen.

by Anonymousreply 156February 21, 2016 1:59 AM

by Anonymousreply 164February 21, 2016 2:32 AM

Hollister, Abercrombie, AE, Aeropostale, etc. cater to the late teen/young adult to early 30s demographic. Not to say that as an older person you couldn't find something mature looking, but by and large it's not fashion for older adults. I'm in my late 20s and I wouldn't wear a lot of that stuff to be honest.

by Anonymousreply 165February 21, 2016 2:39 AM

Really, if some queen starts making remarks about whatever the fuck I may or may not be wearing in a hook-up site pic, I will very quickly find an excuse to terminate the conversation.

"I'm into FF, BDSM, water sports and ...OMG are those opera-length latex gloves you're wearing with that Aereopostale shirt??!!!

by Anonymousreply 166February 21, 2016 2:41 AM

Literally the ONLY good part of getting old is that you can do whatever the fuck you want without giving a fat damn what anyone thinks. If you young ones only knew how incredibly freeing that is!!

Some days I will wear a vintage Led Zeppelin concert tee(which was purchased and worn in the early 70s) and the next day I might put on a St. John knit. And when it comes to shoes??? Honey, it could be bedroom slippers, Tod's driving mocs or vintage 80s jellies depending on my mood.

But, as I said, it's the only good thing about being an old fart.

by Anonymousreply 183February 21, 2016 9:08 AM

I though only women worried so much about who wore what and when and for what occasion. I had a friend once that told me I was wearing the same thing to two different parties. I said "that is a woman thing, I am a guy, we dont worry about that, I am not a woman I am a gay man. I can wear the same thing 5 times in a row if I want". Of coarse that blew his mind that not all gay men think like women. Looking back I should not have been surprised, he was probably the queeniest thing that ever came into my circle of friends. When I'm out in my Hollister T-shirt and Aeropostale cap, I often ask the Millenials why they are wearing old man clothing.

by Anonymousreply 197February 21, 2016 3:58 PM

Certain articles of clothing are timeless staples for gay men - the shorty robe, the poncho, the buttless chaps.

by Anonymousreply 198February 21, 2016 10:10 PM

I've mentioned this on similar threads, but for a good example of a man who dresses well, and age appropriate, check out 'George Clooney fashion/images'. And eldergays, please take the advice given in this thread, as you may be thinking you look youthful, and cool, but, you're just being laughed at, and considered an 'old fool'. Everyone wants to feel validated, and desireable, but, there comes a time when you have to face the reality no one wants your saggy old ass. Try to look sophisticated, and well groomed, not 'cool'. And no, you don't look much younger than your number age. . .

by Anonymousreply 199February 21, 2016 10:35 PM

I respectfully disagree R199, and I am not an eldergay. When I see an older dude in a jersey and ball cap I think to myself, "That's cool. He still has a young heart and soul. I bet I'd enjoy hanging with him." It has nothing to do with him "fooling" me about his chronological age.

Some of y'all are harsh judges.

by Anonymousreply 200February 21, 2016 10:46 PM

Yep, I agree with R200. I have seen a few older guys that look good or "cool" even for their age. Why? Because they break the norm and dont ware old lady slacks and blazers. I dont buy this sophisticated crap line. And mall cloths have never been cool by the way.

That is boring to me. Not saying I want to see some older guy in spandex with butt cheeks hanging out but that looks tacky on everyone. I can relate to an older guy who wears Jeans and a t-shirt or if he is still muscular even a wife beater looks good. But then I am attracted to masculine guys, so usually they are not the time to be obsessed with mall clothes to begin with. If they are in really good shape, they can wear anything and it would look good.

[quote]That's just sad. I see so many old queens like this that I cringe when I see them, yet also feel sorry for them that they are so deluded that they think wearing that shit makes them look cool.

You don't get it - the underlying basis for this whole discussion is that younger guys wear stuff to be cool and older guys wear stuff because they like it, not in order to be cool.

As someone above said, the best thing about getting older is that you don't care about what people think about your choices. So, to a millenial, clothes are a vehicle to say something about yourself, but to older guys, clothes are something to put on your body so you don't get arrested once you leave the building. We wear certain clothes because we like them, not because we are trying to "look cool".

by Anonymousreply 205February 21, 2016 11:17 PM

by Anonymousreply 211February 22, 2016 12:03 AM

I used to work in an industry helping these big chains get set up across the US. 5 years is the maximum expected "cool" factor you can plan on, and that's only if you are lucky. Most of these brands mentioned are about 15 years past their expiration date. So no no one at any age is cool wearing these. They merge and re-brand, remodel and Bam! new brand. But its really just the same old shit from the same old companies from the same Chinese factories. Mall shoppers are fickle and not too bright. Retailers bank on that fact.

by Anonymousreply 212February 22, 2016 12:05 AM

Levis and RL polos and that’s pretty much it since Ralph started making them 50 years or so ago. LaCoste shirts before that. Like Steve Jobs, wearing the same thing simplifies getting dressed. And wearing those two items - that last forever and never go out of style - simplifies shopping.

This from someone who started working in the 1970’s when “casual” was defined as a sport jacket, dress shirt, and tie instead of a suit jacket, dress shirt, and tie and was maybe OK to wear on Fridays.

People should wear whatever fits their lifestyle and personal style, at any age. For example, if you grew up in a beach town and surfed all your life, there's no reason why you shouldn't continue to wear that style of clothing (i.e Volcom) as you age if that's still your lifestyle. But if its not authentic and you're just trying to pull it off as a "look", it appears even more ridiculous on someone older.

As far as clubbing, its a shame many people in the US are so shallow, judgemental and narrow minded. In Europe and most of the world, people of all ages go to nightclubs, most of which are multigenerational, and dancing is something that people do all their lives.

Everything after 1850 was a mistake when it comes to gents' fashion.

by Anonymousreply 236June 13, 2021 4:12 PM

Whenever I see anyone, at any age, wearing anything that is clearly and blatantly branded with a big logo, I view them as insecure and not knowing who they are. But that is more normal and acceptable in young people who are still finding themselves, and since I think people should become more mature and secure with themselves as they get older, that's why it probably seems more tragic on older people. But if an older man wants to wear an A&F or Hollister, etc. item that is not branded (advertising on the item that it is from that label), because they like the fit or comfort, etc, then that's totally understandable and fine.

by Anonymousreply 237June 13, 2021 4:13 PM

I mostly wear the Hollister clothes (shirts) with the small bird logo.

by Anonymousreply 238June 13, 2021 4:22 PM

Straight men do it too

by Anonymousreply 239June 13, 2021 4:47 PM

R237 - agreed. I was at a party recently, and I commented on the (apparently) new design of the Tampa Bay baseball cap.

Nope - it was the Burberry monogramed baseball cap. $390 (not including tax) for this ridiculous piece of shit.

I couldn't help but feel sorry for this guy - what a fool.

R220 bumper. Why not start a new thread? Bumping old threads is annoying...or is that your intention?

by Anonymousreply 243June 13, 2021 5:16 PM

R243

Sorry, I don’t usually bump really old threads. I just googled “Hollister DataLounge” to see what DataLounge thinks about this because I’ve been buying a lot of Hollister online lately and it’s been on my mind.

by Anonymousreply 244June 13, 2021 5:22 PM

R244 Thank you for responding, you are a sweetheart. It's probably just me but I don't understand why people bump old threads. Wouldn't it be better to start a new thread and link to the old one? Whatever the reason, you are a doll for responding.

One of my straight male friends is approaching 40 and he won't wear anything that doesn't have a logo and it has to be the right brand. As he has told me several times, "Chicks won't date guys who don't wear the right brands."

by Anonymousreply 246June 13, 2021 6:18 PM

Maybe he should be looking in other nests for his chicks?

by Anonymousreply 247June 13, 2021 6:43 PM

Aaaaaand we have a winner for the "Eldergay of the Month" at r224, ladies and gentlemen! Actually, "Paleogay of the Month" is probably more accurate.

He knows what color hair Ethel Merman wore.

by Anonymousreply 248June 13, 2021 7:34 PM

Hair dyed cartoon colors is not new. It has been done in other decades.

I’m over 40 man and I have a Michael Kors bag that says Michael Kors all over it, and I wear a fedora and shredded jeans from American eagle. My top is usually a blouse from forever 21.

R230 All clothing from all retailers is made by exploited workers in India, China, Malaysia, Taiwan, etc. etc.

They make Ralph Lipschitz too.

I wear old jeans, one of my 25 or so different colored polo shirts and my Tommy Hilfiger baseball cap. Every day. I don't care.

by Anonymousreply 252June 13, 2021 11:26 PM

Wait-- this is still a thing in Flyoverstan?

Mall stores?

Shirts with A&F logos?

Is Britney Spears still cranking out number one hits on KFLY?

Is George Bush still president?

by Anonymousreply 256January 3, 2022 4:36 AM

It’s far sadder that you’re posting about it,OP. Seriously.

by Anonymousreply 257January 3, 2022 4:40 AM

^Not the case, defensive one. What’s sad are you and the other morons who throw tired insults instead of contributing something thoughtful.

In the U.S., men used to dress for maturity and beauty. All the crap about “conformity” aside, they cared enough to take the time. Even poorer people did this. There’s more to appearance than comfort. It’s a reflection of self-worth and so many just seem to have given up. That’s at least part of what the OP was saying so long ago. R81 had it right, too.

"Gay Men Still Wearing Mall Clothes In Their 40's"

Who gives a flying fuck in the age of covid?

by Anonymousreply 260January 3, 2022 7:07 AM

This post is six years old, r260. It wasn't the age of COVID then.

by Anonymousreply 261January 3, 2022 7:48 AM

"It wasn't the age of COVID then."

But it is the age of covid, Blanche.

It is.

by Anonymousreply 262January 3, 2022 8:25 AM

some people dont know how to dress. Period. Some of the wealthiest people i know dont know the difference between a gym/exercise sneaker and a fashion sneaker.

by Anonymousreply 263January 3, 2022 8:49 AM

Rhinestones ?

by Anonymousreply 264January 3, 2022 8:57 AM

I see what’s happening. OP has shares in the kaftan industry and believes this is the ideal to which we should aspire.

by Anonymousreply 266January 3, 2022 10:35 AM

Not defensive, R258. I'm not a man, and I haven't been in a mall in decades, so I can't say that I wear mall clothes either. I just find it sad that you care about what other men wear. I think someone feeling this way is shallow and insecure. And I find that sad.

by Anonymousreply 267January 5, 2022 5:01 AM

I really miss the original A&F......... The clothes were quality, rugged and preppy. We have a bunch of A&F pieces that my grandfather had & probably bought in the 30's & 40's...... I love them & they still have a slight smell of old leather & tobacco. We keep them @ the cabin he left us as its where he wore them most on walks, fishing & hunting on his amazing property....... Now its Gap shit clothing...... No memories.....

by Anonymousreply 269January 25, 2022 10:19 PM

I have some black t-shirts with horrifying skulls. I bought them at WalMart over a decade ago in my 40s, and I carted the haul back to Europe and they were a hit with all my old gay friends. Mine have held up well. I realize they are for teens and I treasure them. Everything in moderation. They fit my mood sometimes.

by Anonymousreply 270January 25, 2022 10:34 PM

R268 do you have Chris-Crafts at your camp at Lake Clear, and old Yale crew pics of your great great uncle?
