The Men of Dostoyevsky! Who is your favourite Karamazov brother?
I love all three of them, plus the father! I even have a soft spot for Smerdyakov. They are all very clever and red-blooded.
Dmitri is probably the one I feel the most kinship for. He is total passionate abandon, but with an honest and noble soul.
Ivan is the kinkiest. Chilly intellectual who falls in love with that transparently failure of a seductress, Katerina, of all people.
Alyosha is sweetness and light.
Fyodor is cannily intelligent and a good natured crude barbarian.
Smerdyakov is weird beyond belief, a portrait of a madman, but a complete fascination.

Keith. David was gross. Robert was sort of sweet looking too.

Why didn't Playgirl ever do a pictorial like this?

Yul, of course.
Wasn't Albert Salmi one of them in the movie? He eventually shot himself and his wife.

Oh God, the movie, the one with Yul Brynner and William Shatner as two of the brothers!
Look, I love Yul, but Shatner was so massively miscast that I started sniggering every time he came on.

Ivan is the only brother Dostoyevsky does not describe.
My fave characters were the father, batshit crazy Lise and delusions Katerina.

Yul was very well cast as Dmitri. Albert Salmi was perfect as Smedyakov.
William Shatner appeared to be playing Moses.

My great fear is that Andrew Davies will write an adaptation for the BBC and remove all the Christianity and Russianness from it. His WAR AND PEACE proves that he does not get the Russian spirit at all.

Dmitri and Grushenka!
I posted this elsewhere but I might as well make another plug for the best edition of this timeless classic.

Agree on the BBC War and Peace. Then I tried to watch the 1967 Soviet version and was repulsed by the Soviet Pierre. That's NOT Pierre, that's an ogre.
