Top of my list is Henry Cavill. That fucker cannot act worth shit. Man of Steel is one of the worst movies only partly because of him. Second would be Zac Efron. Seriously who is that fucker blowing or bending for to get work. Keep in mind this thread is just for very good looking men who cannot act at all.
Worst male actors who are only famous for being pretty

John Gavin, a gorgeous 1950s movie star, but he couldn't act his way out of a paper bag. Alfred Hitchcock referred to Gavin as "the stiff" because of his bad acting.

Another one for me would be insanely alcoholic Jonathan Rhys Meyers. Yes he is pretty. I love black hair with blue eyes but worst actor second to Cavill.

I agree with R6 about Kellan Lutz, but not about Jonathan Rhys-Meyers. Kellan, yes, you are so right about him... However, maybe he will be a good actor in the future. Don't discourage him, he is such a sweet boy. :P

R5 Jonathan Rhys-Meyers? Sorry, I would never consider him pretty.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | January 19, 2016 7:30 PM |
Kellan Lutz is not only a terrible actor but he is ugly. So he does not apply. Only pretty boys. Rhys Meyers was pretty at one time but being a life long alky he probably looks like shit now.

Um, there is a reason Kellan Lutz has a career and a fanbase. He is very hunky, that has gotten him pretty far in life.
The Hemsworth brothers deserve a mention. Neither Chris nor Liam are good actors, but they are good looking and hunky.

Chris Evans is not a good actor per se, but he is charismatic on screen which counts for something. Even in the shitty Fantastic Four movies he was the best part.

Liam Hemsworth can be funny, so he does not qualify for this thread. He's got a nice dry wit in his performances.
I agree Chris Evans genuinely has charisma on screen, which makes him perfect for playing Captain America. He is not an actor but he is a genuine movie star. Also neither he nor Hemsworth are ever embarrassing on screen the way Rhys-Meyers, Henry Cavill, and Keanu Reeves are.
Zac Efron can do very light comedy but that's it.

Puh-leeze. As someone that suffered through his big leading man attempt in "Paranoia" it was like watching paint dry with him. He was neither an actor nor a star, just didn't have it. I didn't see his most reading leading man fail "Cut Bank", but just glancing at the reviews you see "Deficient in charisma, Hemsworth lacks both the grit and grin that his complicated role demands". Every time he has tried to carry a movie it has sucked, and his performance in particular has been singled out as one of the problems.

Jensen Ackles from Supernatural. Jesus, he's just unspeakably awful with that horribly affected deep voice. The Supernatural Loons will bash me but so what; I'm used to it. I have this temp who unfortunately gets sent up to my floor every once in a while, and she'll immediately put a photo of Jensen Ackles on her computer as a screensaver. as a Senior Manager I forced her to remove it and she complained to HR that I did so because of what she called my "alternative lifestyle." She actually told HR that Jensen was a "good Christian boy" and that I probably didn't like that given my "status." (No kidding. She actually used the word "status." I read the report.) When HR questioned me, as they're required to, I cited the employee manual which prohibits personal items on computers, along with Jensen's horrible acting. The chick from HR actually laughed.

by Anonymous | reply 97 | January 20, 2016 2:05 PM |
I love JRM...then I watch one of his movies or tv episodes and I'm reminded of why I love him and it's not for the acting. I think he's fine in some things--he really needs a strong director. Unfortunately he no longer gets very good scripts or productions so he just works with hacks. He started off with Jordan, Lee and Haynes and nowadays he's hacking it with Emmerich and nobodies.
In the mid-2000's I noticed JRM would stare at another actor's mouth when they were talking. See Emily Mortimer in Match Point or Colin Farrell in Alexander.
by Anonymous | reply 98 | January 20, 2016 2:09 PM |

To give JRM credit, he does tackle a diverse array of roles and of course, never shied away from gay/bi roles. His talent is limited but compared to the other pretty boys mentioned here, he moves between contemporary and period pieces fairly easily. And being Irish, he's more often than not, English or American in his roles. He does a very good southern US accent. Can you imagine Efron taking on a role where he had to do Cockney or aristocratic English?

by Anonymous | reply 176 | January 21, 2016 12:37 AM |
r165, Speed was young Keanu at his butch peak.
Keanu doesn't deserve to be on this list because he's managed to find roles that make good use of his talents. The Matrix was fucking brilliant in terms of maximizing his looks and physicality while minimizing his need to emote (it doesn't get more apt than Keanu as empty vessel and he had the good sense not to try and overplay it). More recently, John Wick is a damn fine movie and I FELT HIS PAIN with the dog. He has a narrow range, but I think he's applied it well enough over several decades now that he deserves more credit than just a pretty face.
My top 3 of those mentioned so far: Christoper Atkins, Andrew Shue, and Paul Walker.

Miss Bomer's acting is Paul Walker level terrible. She has the 'roided up fake Zac Efron body. Even with that body she is quite the fem-bot. No doubt she must be a bottom. Juilliard-trained actress she is not. Her acting mostly consists of staring intently with wide eyes all the time. She tries her best to affect a male sounding voice but you know in her heart she is as feminine as the queeniest queen who ever queened! Miss Thomas Dekker from The Sarah Conner Chronicles. I tried to find a clip where she had the highest pitched voice ever but couldn't find it.

R174, Jimmy is very cute, and pretty when he smiles, I suppose. He's easy to watch onscreen, although many find he's better as the charming supporting character of glossy webseries/sitcom or light HBO drama than as a serious leading role carrying a production. That said, it's very hard not to like him, and he comes across as warm and personable, so with some honing he could be star material one day, a la Clooney.
The first time I saw 'KINGS', I felt this way about Chris Egan (of 'Eragon' and 'Letters To Juliet') playing King David, and he met my expectation as he'd been blandly pretty and forgettable in everything else I'd seen him in. But, I watched the series again with a friend a few years later and changed my mind. I have to admit his portrayal of David holds up beautifully, even though his character gets buried on first viewing because the rest of the cast (Susanna Thompson excluded) are awful Hams. The final scene where David flees into Exile is very affecting, I defy anyone not to tear up a little. IMO Chris is better than he's given credit for (and he's a cute Heath Ledger lookalike, so what more could you want?).

Mixed up thread. Of course Cumberbatch and Pine can act. Of course Ben Affleck was a looker ( though not as hot as Casey). Keanu is gorgeous. I don't get this attitude that if you don't like someone you have to diss their looks. Pitt and Clooney, good enough actors in the right part, decent producers, been in some excellent films. I don't find either of them at all sexy, but they are objectively both very handsome. Maybe a bit of "not my type" would do, rather than the obsession to prove fuglyness. But then the hook is pointless bitchery, which is fun.

His body made him famous in Thelma and Louise and of course his appearance is a primary reason for his notoriety but I think it has been a liability in terms of being recognized for his talent. JRM started out as a fine underplayer, and he absolutely was a great beauty--there's just no question.
As he got older, he had trouble with alcoholism, which affected his looks a bit, but which seriously affected his acting. he became a terrible ham by the time he did "The Tudors," and his performance in it is an embarrassment--she shouts all his lines. Which makes it all the worse is that he's paired with absolutely first-rate actors who make him seem like a complete amateur: Sam Neill, maria Doyle Kennedy, Natalie Dormer, Jeremy Northam.

I nominate Dermot Mulroney. Because of the Harry-Sparkle wedding they played My Best Friend's Wedding yesterday, with hippo mouth Julia Roberts and so bland he may as well be white bread Dermot Mulroney, possibly one of the worst rom-coms EVER. Everything about it was unbelievable and obnoxious. That hippo-mouth would have her panties soaked for Mulroney. Unlikely. The ridiculous songs. The score made me wanna puke it was so horrible. Mulroney also wrecked the Bridget Fonda vehicle Point of No Return, which had some great actors except for Mulroney.

R299, I guess you never heard of the Buster Crabbe Exemption. It states that BC is not required to attempt to act, but just to stand there, in minimal clothing, and be gorgeous while the camera rolls

Being sexy in spite of this is a tremendous feat though.

Um, one of these names doesnโt quite belong on the "still acting today" list.

by Anonymous | reply 308 | May 21, 2018 1:20 AM |
R308 Leto is not pretty. He looks like a weird, ugly, plastic doll. His acting was good in DBC. He deserved his Oscar.

R314 He was still pretty there, and more effeminate than Alexis Arquette. At least Leto is known for his huge penis.
by Anonymous | reply 315 | May 21, 2018 6:48 PM |
He may have been mentioned already and, if so, another vote for Jon-Eric Hexum. He's almost always named on lists of dead actors you miss and while he was very good looking, he certainly was not a great actor and was known for only a couple of roles (Cover Up, Making of a Male Model and Voyagers - the latter of which I doubt many people actually watched)

Love the idea of this thread, but.... lots of confusion in this thread: between pretty and other visual attributes and between real acting, non-acting, and being well-cast. Some of the chaps accused of being bad actors are rather good actors.
To my mind, Ms J. Depp owns this thread.
by Anonymous | reply 321 | May 27, 2018 10:22 AM |
The semi famous Irish Americans like Aiden Quinn and Ed Burns and Dermot Mulroney. I watched most of Ed Burns shitty productions just to happily see him slowly going to seed, sexily.

R318 your opinion notwithstanding, Edward Norton isn't famous for being pretty.
by Anonymous | reply 324 | May 27, 2018 10:40 AM |
Matt Dillon has a permanent DUH look on his face.
Same with all the young male actors from the Twilight series of movies. All of them look stunned, like theyโve been bonked on the head with a fish club.
by Anonymous | reply 325 | May 27, 2018 11:18 AM |
R321 You're confused because you're a moron. Depp has always been a good actor. From his first role on Elm street, 21 Jump street, Scissorhands, Ed Wood. He has been great in most of his oeuvre, moron.
by Anonymous | reply 326 | May 27, 2018 5:42 PM |
So this shit film made 100 million domestically and 65 million internationally. That is the biggest failure since The Lone Ranger. Disney will not make a profit on this piece of garbage.

Paul walker made a great career for himself,as he really was bad..but pretty, and was seemingly a very decent guy. Wentworth Miller is so bad that I'm shocked by every line he utters. But pretty. They say ugly actors do theatre while retty ones do film..and from the beginning it was more about finding a face for the screen. If ur pretty in Hollywood you'll find work..if you're very talented you'll find work..but if you're both you'll be a Star.

KJ Apa's Archie on "Riverdale" seems bland and thick-as-a-brick. The female characters moon over what a slice of man he is, but he's a lollipop with a big head on a slight body. He's overshadowed by Cole Sprouse, who's a much better actor, and I think that Casey Cott as Kevin -- who has that doe-eyed '50s sweetness going for him -- would've made a better Archie.
by Anonymous | reply 333 | May 28, 2018 10:33 PM |
Chris Pine is a character actor trapped in a beautiful package. I just hope he doesn't buff up and lose his appeal like a lot of these other guys. He can be very funny in comedies and he actually has charisma.
Poor Zac Efron really only seems comfortable in frothy musicals. His buffing up and attempts at being taken seriously as a leading man have been shockingly bad. I hope that he surprises everyone with that Ted Bundy movie and finally shows us some range, because his 15 minutes are winding down.

In the old days you couldn't be called a good actor unless you had done extensive stage work. The straight to movies stars were rarely labeled as such. The Harvard Lampoon's Worst Actor Award became the Kirk Douglas Award and the Worst Actress became the Natalie Wood Award. At least she went to Harvard and accepted it.
by Anonymous | reply 369 | July 21, 2018 4:23 PM |
Agreed. Compare the dancers and actors from the 50s or 60s compared to the garbage today like Gosling in La La Land. He cannot dance. Did not dance. Cannot sing. Cannot act. I usually like Emma Stone but not in that crap.
by Anonymous | reply 370 | July 21, 2018 4:29 PM |
I liked Ryan in La La Land. He's no Gene Kelly, but those hammy performances won't go over with todays audiences. It's called show business, not show art.

r356 also Titanic had something for everyone, romance for chick and action for men. Literally two movies in one. I think it's a terrific movie after they hit the iceberg. I was 6 when it came out and made my parents take me three times. I loved the movie and thought Leo was so hot, but not in a sexual way at that time.

[quote]Chris Evans is a good actor, sure not award-worthy but still, I love his performance in Snowpiercer.
I thought he was awful in that movie, he is the main reason the movie didn't work.
He gives a halfway believable performance as Cap in Marvel movies, but he has a very limited range. Hemsworth isn't that bad, Aussies train their actors pretty well.
Johnny Depp
Brad Pitt
Keanu Reves
DiCaprio
all shit actors

r334 he had his chance with the Charlie St. Cloud movie and failed. But he has NEVER looked better. I don't know why they pared him with such an ugly tall actress but he was a summer dream in that film.

Ridiculous to suggest De Caprio is a bad actor. Brad Pitt isnโt as good but the chemistry between them in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is great and I was fine with Brad winning the Oscar for it. Chris Pine was terrific in Hell or High Water.
