227 was a comedy starring Marla Gibbs and her TV family. I loved Sandra played by Jackee Harry and Pearl played by Helen Martin! Did you all love 227? Logo has been showing it again lately.

I did. I don't know why. It was silly.

You seem to have overlooked ME, Emmy-winning star of "American Crime." Now in Season 2 on ABC.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | January 10, 2016 9:51 PM |
i don't like regina king. her role on 227 was retarded and i hated her. i liked sandra clark and pearl.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | January 10, 2016 9:56 PM |
Shame what happened to Logo; however Golden Girls, Empty Nest, 227 and Amen were my favorite Saturday night shows back then.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | January 10, 2016 10:01 PM |
listen bitch, i watch logo and i like how they show 227.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | January 10, 2016 10:03 PM |
That woman "Pearl" was (is?) so hideously ugly. Who defused that it was a good idea to put her on camera? I don't think I've ever seen an uglier human in my life.

[quote]Who defused that it was a good idea to put her on camera?
defused?
by Anonymous | reply 7 | January 10, 2016 10:13 PM |
Helen Martin aka "Pearl" had a long acting history and and she was a riot as the nosy neighbor. She was also Weeping Wanda on "Good Times."
I'm surprised Alaina Reed-Hall died so young. I remember her when she was Olivia on "Sesame Street."
I stopped watching the final season where, to make up for Jackee's departure, they added about five new characters.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | January 10, 2016 10:14 PM |
r6, Helen Martin was extremely hilarious. She starred in several black movies in the 80's and 90's and using her filthy mouth.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | January 10, 2016 10:15 PM |
It was one of those shows to shut people up about there not being enough black people on television. I went to a taping of it at Metromedia Square. The fucking 22 minute show took over six hours to record and they wouldn't let anyone in the audience leave even though we were starving.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | January 10, 2016 10:18 PM |
I haven't seen Helen Martin in anything lately, too bad, she's very talented.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | January 10, 2016 10:26 PM |
My mother used to call it "two twenty seven".
by Anonymous | reply 12 | January 10, 2016 10:33 PM |
Like R4 it was part of my families Saturday night and those shows were shows everyone could agree to watch without arguments. I miss 80s TV.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | January 10, 2016 10:39 PM |
What was the deal with the white guy? Did they ever explain what he was doing there? Did he like dark meat?
by Anonymous | reply 14 | January 10, 2016 10:42 PM |
I wish they would release the rest of the seasons on DVD.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | January 10, 2016 10:44 PM |
R14 that was Barry Sobel who was a popular wigger in the 1980s. Anytime a black show needed a white guy to rap and act black for comic effect Barry was their go to guy.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | January 10, 2016 10:46 PM |
This show is funny and it aired on NBC on Saturday nights along with 2 other female dominated sitcoms The Golden Girls and the later years of The Facts of Life.
That last year was awful though with those 2 young hip guys moving in, Travis and Dylan.
Paul Winfield was pretty funny though.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | January 10, 2016 10:49 PM |
And he's gay.

I thought the husband was hot.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | January 10, 2016 10:53 PM |
Sandra Clark was my favorite character.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | January 10, 2016 10:55 PM |
I'll always think of the husband as Big Dick Blaque from the movie "Hardcore".
by Anonymous | reply 21 | January 10, 2016 10:55 PM |
Mary was truly an unpleasant character.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | January 10, 2016 11:19 PM |
R 22 she was! That is surprising since I like Marla Gibbs.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | January 10, 2016 11:26 PM |
Helen Martin was a well known pot smoker. She talked about it every time she was on a talk show. She had a perfect way with a line like "this classic chassis can take a licking and keep on ticking."
I knew 227 was in trouble in the first episode when they tried featuring Alaina as the lead supporting character and Jackee made such an impression with her brief scene. Once they made the change, the show gained momentum.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | January 10, 2016 11:28 PM |
Helen Martin had a filthy mouth and loved pot!
by Anonymous | reply 25 | January 10, 2016 11:33 PM |
I loved it. Sandra was a hoot. Such a great over-the-top character, played to perfection Everyone was great, but Sandra stands out, then Pearl. Mary had her moments. Whatever happened to the actor who played Calvin.
Sandra doing the weather was probably one of my favorite episodes.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | January 11, 2016 5:44 AM |
loved that show.
There's no place like home. with your family around you, you're never alone.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | January 11, 2016 11:26 AM |
It was OK till Jackee Harry became simply Jackee.
Is it true that Marla Gibbs was bald and had to wear wigs and toward the end she just said "fuck it" and that's why she had that almost bald head?
by Anonymous | reply 28 | January 11, 2016 1:45 PM |
Whatever happened to Jackee? I thought she was poised for a great career.
Glad to see Regina King making her mark in movies.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | January 11, 2016 4:46 PM |
It wasn't great comedy, but I liked the show. It was an enjoyable half hour, and the characters were likable. Marla Gibbs spoke about the Jewish mafia in Hollywood and that about ended her career though.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | January 11, 2016 5:22 PM |
i think jackee harry died.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | January 11, 2016 5:23 PM |
No, Jackee is very much alive last I heard. Helen Martin (Pearl) died many years ago as did Alaina Reed-Hall (as did her real-life husband who also appeared on the show).
Last I heard, the actor who played Calvin is no longer in the business.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | January 11, 2016 6:26 PM |
Does LOGO show anything gay anymore?
by Anonymous | reply 33 | January 11, 2016 6:35 PM |
yes. they show gay movies and have gay shows like another incarnation of ru paul's drag race.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | January 11, 2016 6:52 PM |
LOGO has always been a piece of shit network.

[quote]Regina King
Her sister is Rena King which means queen in Spanish and Regina means queen in Latin. That's retarded. Like naming one kid Marie and the other one Maria
by Anonymous | reply 38 | January 11, 2016 8:23 PM |
Queen in Spanish is REINA, not Rena.

by Anonymous | reply 40 | January 12, 2016 2:56 AM |
What's this about Marla Gibbs talking about the Jewish mafia?
Jackee went onto Sister, Sister I believe. But she never had the same success as she did on 227.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | January 12, 2016 3:20 AM |
The problem with the show is that, like the Phyllis spinoff from MTM, they watered down Marla Gibbs' Jeffersons persona to make her the vanilla star of the show which made her unfunny. Jackee filled the void and walked away with the accolades and the laughs.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | January 12, 2016 4:07 AM |
That might be because she wasn't playing Florence, but an entirely different character.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | January 12, 2016 3:40 PM |
you all watch the 227 marathon this Saturday on Logo - 2/27! it's being hosted by Jackee!!!
by Anonymous | reply 44 | February 24, 2016 7:34 PM |
i know, r44. can't wait till saturday!
by Anonymous | reply 45 | February 24, 2016 7:37 PM |
I remember there was a lot of tension between Marla Gibbs and Jackee. Marla was pissed because 227 was supposed to be her show, but Jackee's Sandra wound up being the break-out character. The show started to focus more on Sandra to Marla's chagrin. The producers decided to try to give Jackee her own spin-off show due to the increasing tensions between Gibbs and Jackee. It failed on both ends. Jackee's show didn't even get picked up, and 227's ratings tanked after Jackee left.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | February 24, 2016 9:14 PM |
True r47.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | February 24, 2016 9:53 PM |
Whatever happened to Helen Martin? Pearly was easily the funniest character on the show, I'm surprised she hasn't gotten more work since then. Regina King is all over the place and Jackee pops up here and there.

What's wrong, as someone wrote up-thread, with someone saying "Two twenty seven". Is there some rule that says otherwise? Two two seven is not necessarily the correct way to say an address.

Mary was so MEAN to her daughter!
by Anonymous | reply 58 | February 28, 2016 1:34 AM |
Why did you all find Mary unpleasant? Sandra and Pearl were the best characters. Mary was sorta a stick in the mud. Remember the episode where they made a big deal about Rose going away to NYC for the weekend with a man? Mary was real prudish about it.

I love 227. I watch it every weekend on OWN. Good times again.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | March 14, 2018 9:26 PM |
I don't think Mary was mean to Brenda at all. She was a responsible and protective parent to a young teenage girl. There were plenty of good scenes between them but Mary made sure she did not run wild or hang out with the wrong kids.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | March 14, 2018 10:24 PM |
Mary was overboard strict with Brenda. Like prison strict.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | March 14, 2018 11:13 PM |
It was obvious they got a big bump in the budget between seasons 1 and two for hair and wardrobe. Even Sandra looked somewhat dowdy in season 1.
The new additions to the show were terrible. Annoying child Alexandra and all the new characters that were supposed to help make up for Sandra being phased off the show in the last season. The ratings dropped drastically.
Gibbs, Hall and Martin were really threated by Jackee and her popularity and scene-stealing ways and treated her badly.

Mary was a nag. She fussed about everything.
by Anonymous | reply 73 | March 15, 2018 2:46 AM |
Ironic how she stole every scene from the leads on "The Jeffersons", and then had it done to her on "227".

I must have loved this show for Jackee, as I do recall watching it as a kid. it must have been on before or after something I actually enjoyed. Jackee is a national treasure.
by Anonymous | reply 82 | April 26, 2018 3:01 PM |
I loved Pearl’s line when they were talking about Sandra’s romance novel. Well it practically burned off my eyeballs!

James Stewart treated Hal Williams like crap on the set of his short lived venture on network television. It was a racial thing, as Stewart didn’t like black people. Hal said as much in an interview years ago. Stewart also mistreated the magnificent looking Woody Strode on the set of THE MAN WHO SHOT LIBERTY VALANCE.
Hal is a nice man, all around great guy who didn’t deserve to be treated like that.

This show had a bad track record with bringing in new characters. The only one that was ok was Julian. The episodes of the last season without Jackee were mostly terrible.
by Anonymous | reply 93 | April 26, 2018 10:37 PM |
R93 I do not remember Julian on that show.
by Anonymous | reply 94 | April 26, 2018 10:44 PM |
Julian was the landlord that took over running the apartment building during the last season.
by Anonymous | reply 95 | April 26, 2018 11:07 PM |
Julian was a big homo. Well at least he acted gay.
by Anonymous | reply 96 | April 26, 2018 11:13 PM |
I don't think Julian was supposed to be gay, but the actor who played him, Paul Winfield, was gay.
Julian sparring with Mary was one of few good things about season 5.
by Anonymous | reply 97 | April 26, 2018 11:27 PM |
The show was a vehicle for Marla (as creative, producer, star), but the Mary character was annoying and very one-note for the series run (and she got worse as the seasons wore on). The interplay and chemistry among actresses Jackee, Alaina, and Helen made the show enjoyable.
Hal Williams was hot and good as the henpecked husband. Regina King did well as Brenda (even though the character was weak).
It lasted about 2 seasons too long. Countess Vaughn's presence was the beginning of the end, and the remaining new characters (and actors) were terrible. Paul Winfield might have been good as the upstairs neighbor after Jackee.
by Anonymous | reply 98 | April 26, 2018 11:43 PM |
Jackee made the show. The others weren't interesting to watch at all. Never liked Gibbs on the Jeffersons, either. I missed the mother-in-law on that show who was a hoot with Weezy on the first season. I guess she passed away and they brought Florence on.
by Anonymous | reply 99 | April 26, 2018 11:54 PM |
They really hyped Toukie Smith during the last season, but both she and her character, Eva, were a total dud. She was a former model that had little acting experience and it really showed. Eva was no Sandra. She was dating Robert Deniro at that time also, which probably played a part in her getting cast on the show.
