There have been rumors and some coy interviews with the actor playing him. If you've seen TFA you'd probably agree that he appears to be smelling cookies throughout the movie, even as he's piloting an X-Wing like a bad-ass and generally being Han Solo 2.0. The character is very gregarious and out-going, not at all fey, but just a smidge too "on." Super smiley and huggy. Cookie smelling all OVER that galaxy. You'd think Jedis were replaced with Keebler elves if you just watched him through the whole movie. It goes without saying that he's very handsome.
I do NOT think Finn is gay, although Poe probably wishes he were. I saw more sparks and chemistry between Finn and Rey, anyway. The people wishing for a Poe-Finn romance are clearly nuts, but is it nuts to think that someone decided to play this character as a cryto-gay and TPTB were on board with that? Is it a cynical attempt to attract gay dollars without actually making him a gay character? I know blockbusters are planned around the international market and this won't fly in Muslim/African/Asian markets, so are they trying to have it both ways? A character who "seems gay" to those looking for that, but who is otherwise asexual/"default heterosexual" to other audiences?
Will he "come out" in one of the next Star Wars movies? Or is Oscar Isaac just playing him "that way" to let it "fly under the radar." Is it intentional on Isaac's part? Is J.J. Abrams on board? How cool would it be to have a gay Star Wars lead character, even one who is never explicitly portrayed as such?
