Emmy Fuck-ups

People that should have Emmys:

Nick Offerman - Ron Swanson, "Parks and Recreation"

Naomi Grossman - Pepper, "American Horror Story: Freak Show" for the episode "Orphans" about Pepper's back story

by Anonymousreply 206July 24, 2020 2:06 AM

The Emmys have never been great. "The Wire" never won a single emmy (and was only ever nominated for one twice in it's run), that tells you everything you need to know right there.

by Anonymousreply 1December 29, 2015 4:45 PM

I totally agree with the second one. Naomi Grossman should have won certainly an award for her performance in AHS. It's a disgrace that she wasn't even nominated.

I have never watched 'Parks and Recreation', so i can't say anything about it.

by Anonymousreply 2December 29, 2015 4:49 PM

Julia Duffy was nominated seven times for [italic]Newhart[/italic] and never won once. Had the show gone on any longer than it did, she might have become the Susan Lucci of sitcoms.

by Anonymousreply 3December 29, 2015 4:55 PM

Regina King and Michael Cudlitz for Southland.

Regina King finally got one for American Crime, so that's something.

by Anonymousreply 4December 29, 2015 5:01 PM

Emmys never are wrong.

by Anonymousreply 5December 29, 2015 5:19 PM
I totally agree with the second one. Naomi Grossman should have won certainly an award for her performance in AHS. It's a disgrace that she wasn't even nominated.

Another nod for Naomi Grossman. That episode of AHS: Freakshow about Pepper's backstory was heartbreaking. Grossman should have a t LEAST been nominated for that incredible performance.

by Anonymousreply 6December 29, 2015 5:20 PM

Mary McDonnell for BSG and Major Crimes

by Anonymousreply 7December 29, 2015 5:25 PM

I agree about Nick Offerman. The Emmys are bullshit. The same people win year after year. Enough already with Julia Louis-Dreyfuss!

by Anonymousreply 8December 29, 2015 5:46 PM

Melissa McBride (Carol on YHE WALKING DEAD) elevates every scene she's in with her performance. I thought she'd get a nomination a couple of years ago for the episode The Grove. Ann Dowd (Patti) and Justin Theroux (Kevin) are equally outstanding on THE LEFTOVERS. The recent episode, International Assassin, gave me chills it was so good.

by Anonymousreply 9December 29, 2015 6:01 PM

Lauren Graham, Kelly Bishop and Amy Sherman-Palladino all should have Emmys for Gilmore Girls. None of them was ever even nominated.

Party of Five's first three seasons all had Emmy-worthy work in them.

Bess Armstrong should have won (or at least been nominated) for My So Called Life.

by Anonymousreply 10December 29, 2015 6:01 PM

This issue divides in two: Jackie Gleason ... followed by everyone else screwed over.

by Anonymousreply 11December 29, 2015 7:00 PM

I own this thread.

by Anonymousreply 12December 29, 2015 7:06 PM

No, Angela, you didn't do anything more than People's Choice worthy on Murder She Wrote.

by Anonymousreply 13December 29, 2015 7:13 PM

Yet some of the people they DID give it to aren't even worthy of Kid's Choice Awards.

by Anonymousreply 14December 29, 2015 7:22 PM

Connie Britton deserved an Emmy nomination for the first season of Friday Night Lights. She was terrific that season. She did get nominations during the last two seasons of FNL, but those seasons weren't as strong as the first season.

by Anonymousreply 15December 29, 2015 7:45 PM

Agree about Naomi Grossman. Also, Matt Bomer for The Normal Heart. Well, at least he was nominated unlike Grossman.

by Anonymousreply 16December 29, 2015 7:46 PM

John C. McGinley on Scrubs

by Anonymousreply 17December 29, 2015 7:48 PM

Lindsay Wagner won for The Bionic Woman.

Was that seen as an injustice back then?

by Anonymousreply 18December 29, 2015 8:25 PM

Karen Cellini. END. OF. THREAD.

by Anonymousreply 19December 29, 2015 8:30 PM

Edie Falco winning three Emmys for The Sopranos were injustices. She was overrated on that show. Lorraine Bracco got nominations but never won and again she was overrated. Falco has Emmy nominations and one win for Nurse Jackie. Does Falco fuck important to get Emmy and SAG nominations?

Also Tituss Burgess should have won the past year for Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.

by Anonymousreply 20December 29, 2015 9:49 PM

^I meant to type "Does Falco fuck important people to get Emmy and SAG nominations?"

by Anonymousreply 21December 29, 2015 9:50 PM

Melissa McCarthy is an Emmy stealing pig.

by Anonymousreply 22December 29, 2015 9:54 PM

I forgot to mention "The Wire", although someone else did.

by Anonymousreply 23December 29, 2015 9:56 PM

The girl that plays Sue on The Middle. And Sara Gilbert on Roseanne.

by Anonymousreply 24December 29, 2015 10:03 PM

Lindsay Wagner was amazing in the episode she won her Emmy for. Her character was having a mental breakdown and she was very convincing. I think people judge because of the show itself (not considered Emmy material).

by Anonymousreply 25December 29, 2015 10:24 PM

Patti Lupone deserved an Emmy for guest spot on Penny Dreadful.

by Anonymousreply 26December 29, 2015 10:27 PM

R24-

Eden Sher- yes, she's fabulous. The ensemble on The Middle is generally amazing, but she is the most layered character and actress.

The Emmys should change the rule so that once you win for that character, you are no longer eligible for nomination. There are too many actors with multiple Emmy's for a single role, whereas an emeritus status would have allowed more recognition of new talent.

Tatiana Maslenay got recognized while SM Gellar never got a chance.

by Anonymousreply 27December 29, 2015 10:51 PM
The Emmys should change the rule so that once you win for that character, you are no longer eligible for nomination. There are too many actors with multiple Emmy's for a single role, whereas an emeritus status would have allowed more recognition of new talent.

I'll make sure that never happens.

by Anonymousreply 28December 29, 2015 11:06 PM

The Emmys never honored my very talented wife Katey.

by Anonymousreply 29December 29, 2015 11:26 PM

Do I really even need to say it?

by Anonymousreply 30December 29, 2015 11:32 PM

After years of John Larroquette winning for Night Court and Candice Bergin for Murphy Brown, I gave up on it being a 'real' thing anymore. Then when I learned they submit themselves for nomination, I was disgusted. Exactly how pathetic/greedy is Julia L-D, anyway?

by Anonymousreply 31December 30, 2015 12:27 AM

I respectfully disagree, R20. Edie Falco is absolutely incredible in her Emmy-winning performance in the episode "Whitecaps". She will blow you away. So good.

by Anonymousreply 32December 30, 2015 12:31 AM

I completely agree with r4. Great performances every episode.

by Anonymousreply 33December 30, 2015 12:36 AM

Martha Plimpton and Garret Dillahunt were Emmy worthy for their work in "Raising Hope". Martha was nominated for the 1st season, Garret was never nominated.

by Anonymousreply 34December 30, 2015 12:44 AM

Elizabeth Montgomery.

by Anonymousreply 35December 30, 2015 12:49 AM

My wife was also robbed of an Emmy.

by Anonymousreply 36December 30, 2015 2:11 AM
Exactly how pathetic/greedy is Julia L-D, anyway?

Julia Louis-Dreyfus and the other born in wealth actresses like Rooney Mara should be kidnapped and placed on island.

by Anonymousreply 37December 30, 2015 2:15 AM

Noel Fisher as a supporting actor in Shameless. Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton for Friday Night Lights - I think he had one acting nod. The Wire got shafted but everybody knows that. I would love it if they put a moratorium on the number of times someone could be nommed for the same role/show.

by Anonymousreply 38December 30, 2015 2:27 AM

R38 Chandler won in 2011

by Anonymousreply 39December 30, 2015 2:31 AM

I checked out of caring about the Emmys decades ago when they got so bad about rewarding the same people over and over and over and over for the same damn role/performance.

Yeah, Carroll O'Connor and John Larroquette and even Candice Bergen were amazing for ONE or two accolades at best but, c'mon!

by Anonymousreply 40December 30, 2015 9:25 AM

Matt Bomer - The Normal Heart

by Anonymousreply 41December 30, 2015 9:38 AM

Tony Dow, just because.

by Anonymousreply 42December 30, 2015 9:59 AM

Vera Farmiga for season 3 of Bates Motel

by Anonymousreply 43December 30, 2015 3:58 PM

I was watching a Reba marathon this weekend on TV Land and I thought that both Melissa Peterman and Steve Howey both had great comedic timing and took two stereotypical roles and made them into real, likable characters. Of course, as the series went on, it became way more cartoonish and went down in quality, but I could have seen one or both of them getting supporting comedy noms.

by Anonymousreply 44January 4, 2016 6:12 PM

Walton Goggins - The Shield

by Anonymousreply 45January 4, 2016 6:24 PM

John Goodman was nominated a million times for Roseanne but never won. They eventually gave him an Emmy for a guest role on an Aaron Sorkin series. Criminal, if you ask me.

by Anonymousreply 46January 4, 2016 6:31 PM

Niecy Nash for Getting On. She steals every scene she is in and absolutely breaks your heart.

by Anonymousreply 47January 4, 2016 6:32 PM

The Emmys didn't nominate me for Gotham

by Anonymousreply 48January 16, 2016 11:15 PM

Laura Dern gave the best performance of her career in Enlightened. She never won an Emmy for her role.

by Anonymousreply 49January 16, 2016 11:24 PM

Giancarlo Esposito should have won for playing Gus Fring on Breaking Bad.

by Anonymousreply 50January 16, 2016 11:31 PM

Patty Duke for a movie called A Matter of Justice with Martin Sheen.

by Anonymousreply 51January 16, 2016 11:33 PM

I think if Giancarlo Esposito had been allowed to contend in Guest Actor he'd have an Emmy. The Emmy rules are absurd. Transparent is NOT A COMEDY. Is Jeffrey Tambor trying to get laughs? Don't think so! Just because the Emmy rules state that 30 minutes = Comedy category, and 60 minutes = Drama. SO DUMB. I feel really sorry for the other actors in Lead Comedy Actor.

by Anonymousreply 52January 16, 2016 11:35 PM
Don't think so! Just because the Emmy rules state that 30 minutes = Comedy category, and 60 minutes = Drama.

And yet, they still continue to say that Shameless is a comedy.

by Anonymousreply 53January 16, 2016 11:40 PM

Last year they made exceptions for some but not others. OITNB petitioned to stay in Comedy but was denied.

by Anonymousreply 54January 16, 2016 11:49 PM
Lindsay Wagner was amazing in the episode she won her Emmy for. Her character was having a mental breakdown and she was very convincing. I think people judge because of the show itself (not considered Emmy material).

I totally agree with this. Wagner was great in that episode.

by Anonymousreply 55January 17, 2016 12:05 AM

I second that, sugah!

by Anonymousreply 56January 17, 2016 12:16 AM

John Goodman

Delta Burke

Beverly Archer

by Anonymousreply 57January 17, 2016 12:25 AM

Uzo Aduba winning for OINTB season 3.

by Anonymousreply 58January 17, 2016 8:19 PM

Making [italic]The Simpsons[/italic] ineligible for Outstanding Comedy Series in the 1990s when it actually was outstanding and better than ANY live-action sitcom past or present.

by Anonymousreply 59January 17, 2016 8:31 PM

Katey Sagal, Charlie Hunnam or even Maggie Siff in the early years of SOA; if the standard is that an actor/actress elevates a show, then those three certainly qualify.

by Anonymousreply 60January 17, 2016 10:09 PM

Tituss Burgess losing to Tony Hale for comedy supporting actor in 2015.

by Anonymousreply 61January 17, 2016 11:33 PM

Predicted fuck-ups for tomorrow

Constance Wu doesn't get nominated for Fresh Off The Boat

John Travolta gets an undeserved nomination for The People vs. OJ Simpson

by Anonymousreply 62July 13, 2016 4:38 PM

I'm stunned that the Sarah Paulson gif didn't find its way into this thread.

Yet.

by Anonymousreply 63July 13, 2016 4:42 PM

Lisa Kudrow not winning for 'The Comeback' in 2006 (or 2015).

by Anonymousreply 64July 13, 2016 4:51 PM

OP, it should read "people who," not "people that."

by Anonymousreply 65July 13, 2016 5:10 PM

It's a shame that Tatiana Maslany only has one nomination, and no wins. I doubt she'll be nominated this year.

Ludicrous that no one from Mad Men ever won an acting Emmy until they finally gave it to John Hamm. Hendricks and Moss were both deserving over the years.

The Americans should be getting WAY more nominations than it does.

THE performance that deserves a nomination this year is Louie Anderson as the MOTHER on 'Baskets'. He turned something that could have been a one-note stunt role (look, it's a man playing a woman!) into something deeper--but still funny.

by Anonymousreply 66July 13, 2016 5:57 PM

Keri Russell should have been nominated for The Americans.

by Anonymousreply 67July 13, 2016 9:36 PM

I hope Kit Harington finally gets nominated for GoT. He actually really deserves it. I'll be pissed if Emilia Clarke gets the default ladies nomination instead of Sophie Turner or Lena Heady.

by Anonymousreply 68July 13, 2016 11:11 PM

Walton Goggins for The Shield

by Anonymousreply 69July 13, 2016 11:16 PM

Walton Goggins - Sons of Anarchy

by Anonymousreply 70July 13, 2016 11:17 PM

Ruffalo, Bomer, Murphy and Kramer for The Normal Heart. The fact that they didn't win showed the EMMY's homophobia big time.

by Anonymousreply 71October 26, 2016 5:23 AM

All four of the leads from "You're the worst" especially for Aya Cash and Kether Donohue for the episode where she admits to her depression, last season. And EVERYBODY on ""Unreal".

by Anonymousreply 72October 26, 2016 5:37 AM

R3 and she'd have won on her 19th nom.

Check.

by Anonymousreply 73October 26, 2016 6:07 AM

not to derail into Daytime, but:

Beverlee McKinsey, Grant Aleksander, Mary Kay Adams, and Denise Alexander all should have gold on their mantels.

by Anonymousreply 74October 26, 2016 6:08 AM

I should have won. The Emmys are rigged. I and I alone can fix them.

by Anonymousreply 75October 26, 2016 6:19 AM

Ann Dowd is a fucking hoot. She's playing the mom of the gay criminal on Quarry. Her son is played by Damon Herriman who played Dewey Crowe on Justified. They're pretty much the best part of the show.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 76October 26, 2016 6:46 AM

The Emmys are terrible. An organization that gives awards to "The Big Bang Theory" and doesn' t even consider "Community" is a fraud.

by Anonymousreply 77October 26, 2016 7:29 AM

Betty White won hers first!

What took so long here eldergays?

by Anonymousreply 78October 26, 2016 8:01 AM

The same old programmes and faces every year, and nothing for Community, Parks and Rec or Party Down. Ridiculous.

by Anonymousreply 79October 26, 2016 8:17 AM

they took mine and gave it away to Pamela K. Long.

by Anonymousreply 80October 27, 2016 12:37 AM

People (ppl) who don't care who has an Emmy:

by Anonymousreply 81October 27, 2016 12:39 AM

Lisa Fucking Kudrow for The Comeback seasons 1 and 2.

FUCK that goddamned Julia Louis Dreyfuss. FUCK HER.

by Anonymousreply 82October 27, 2016 12:40 AM

The next Emmy fuck-ups that will be happening next month

-Vera Farmiga won't be nominated for Bates Motel

-Ann Dowd won't be nominated for The Handmaid's Tale

-Ty Burrelll will get another undeserved nomination

by Anonymousreply 83June 8, 2017 3:17 PM

Susie Essman for Curb Your Enthusiasm

by Anonymousreply 84June 8, 2017 3:22 PM

I go by degree of difficulty in achieving a performance. I love Parks and Rec and Ron Swanson is a classic character but I don't see how it is that difficult of a performance for Nick Offerman.

by Anonymousreply 85June 8, 2017 3:40 PM

I want Carrie Coon and Ann Dowd to have Emmys.

by Anonymousreply 86June 8, 2017 3:51 PM

It's a shame that the only MAD MEN Emmy acting win was John Hamm in the last season. Hendricks, Moss, Slattery, and yes even January Jones were worthy.

by Anonymousreply 87June 8, 2017 3:52 PM

William Frawkey for I Love Lucy. Egregious.

by Anonymousreply 88June 8, 2017 3:56 PM

Anthony Edwards for ER. Nominated 4 times, lost 3 times to Dennis Franz for NYPD BLUE.

by Anonymousreply 89June 8, 2017 3:59 PM

Good point R88

by Anonymousreply 90June 8, 2017 4:00 PM

Larry Hagman in his career defining role as JR Ewing in Dallas. Nominated a few times but never won

Joan Collins in her career defining role as Alexis Carrington on Dynasty. Nominated once (1984) but never won.

Those were the two most iconic, defining roles of 80s television

Emmy voters never liked nighttime soaps

by Anonymousreply 91June 8, 2017 4:15 PM

Hagman and Collins were robbed of Emmys.

Personally, I would have given Pamela Sue Martin an Emmy for Supporting Actress for Dynasty's first season.

Emmy voters rarely gave any love to nighttime sudsers - Barbara Bel Geddes won for the breast cancer story; Michele Lee and Julie Harris were nominated for Knots.

by Anonymousreply 92June 8, 2017 4:41 PM

I had no idea Elizabeth Montgomery never won an Emmy, not for BEWITCHED or any of her excellent TV movies. Talk about egregious!

by Anonymousreply 93June 8, 2017 4:49 PM

If anybody deserved a Lifetime Achievement Emmy, it was Elizabeth Montgomery.

by Anonymousreply 94June 12, 2017 9:24 PM

Kirsten Dunst should have won for her work on "Fargo" over Sarah Paulson. I like Paulson, but that award should have been Dunsts.

by Anonymousreply 95June 12, 2017 9:29 PM

Hugh Laurie should have won for House.

by Anonymousreply 96June 12, 2017 9:47 PM

I don't pay attention to award shows so pardon my ignorance:
Larry Hagman in his career defining role as JR Ewing in Dallas. Nominated a few times but never won

I have never watched any of the 80s nighttime soaps so I picture Hagman as being a goofy actor the way he was on I Dream of Jeannie, did he have real talent?

I'm surprised Hugh Laurie never won, R96, was the competition/winner more deserving?

by Anonymousreply 97June 13, 2017 5:38 PM

I'm pretty sure that House came along during one of the periods where the Emmys get stuck in a rut and just award the same person year after year. Julia Louis-Dreyfuss is the current beneficiary, and IIRC, back then it was Tony Shaloub.

by Anonymousreply 98June 13, 2017 5:41 PM

I love Julia Louis-Dreyfus. But, she doesn't need another Emmy. I hope she loses this year.

I agree with another poster, Hugh Laurie should have won for House.

by Anonymousreply 99June 13, 2017 5:47 PM

Christopher Heyerdahl in Hell on Wheels.

by Anonymousreply 100June 13, 2017 5:50 PM

I also vote for Ann Dowd and Carrie Coons this year. Both for The Leftovers. Add in some Theroux, too. What a sexy piece.

by Anonymousreply 101June 13, 2017 6:01 PM

Has HBO been heavily campaigning for The Leftovers? Or is HBO just focusing on campaigning for Big Little Lies.

Ann Dowd might have a shot at getting nominated for The Handmaid's Tale.

by Anonymousreply 102June 13, 2017 6:08 PM

Gary Cole, who received his first Emmy nomination for his role in Veep should have won at least one Emmy years ago. He was fabulous in American Gothic. I also thought he was excellent in Midnight Caller

by Anonymousreply 103June 13, 2017 6:18 PM

Ann Wedgeworth for Three's Company.

by Anonymousreply 104June 13, 2017 6:20 PM

Lois Smith should have been nominated and won for "The Americans" in season 3. Smith was heartbreaking, but instead the nomination and Emmy went to Margot Martindale for simply having an emotion-free conversation with Frank Langella.

by Anonymousreply 105June 13, 2017 6:29 PM

Mary McDonnell

by Anonymousreply 106June 13, 2017 6:33 PM

Really, any number of nominations that Battlestar Galactica should have gotten.

by Anonymousreply 107June 13, 2017 6:33 PM

How Suzanne Pleshette never won one is beyond me. Nominated twice for The Bob Newhart Show, once for a performance on Dr. Kildare and nominated for her role as Leona Helmsley

by Anonymousreply 108June 13, 2017 6:34 PM

R107 I so agree.

by Anonymousreply 109June 13, 2017 6:38 PM

A show regarded as one of the very best shows of all time, "The Wire", never won a single emmy (and only ever received two nominations its entire run).

by Anonymousreply 110June 13, 2017 6:45 PM

I will provide Walton Goggins with succor.

by Anonymousreply 111June 13, 2017 7:22 PM

Vera Farmiga should have been nominated this year for Bates Motel.

by Anonymousreply 112July 13, 2017 7:25 PM

Not a single acting nomination for American Gods? Fuck you, you fucking fucks.

by Anonymousreply 113July 13, 2017 8:00 PM

LOL R113-- it debuted after the June 1 cut-off.

Look for it next year

by Anonymousreply 114July 13, 2017 8:04 PM

Nope r114. Not at all.

American Gods premiered April 30th.

It was completely eligible for nominations and they submitted many as possibilities, it just didn't get any.

by Anonymousreply 115July 13, 2017 8:08 PM

Though I should add, Bryan Fuller's last show "Hannibal" was also constantly ignored by emmy voters.

by Anonymousreply 116July 13, 2017 8:11 PM

American Gods submitted sixteen actors. Whittle and McShane as Lead, Pablo Schreiber, Crispin Glover, Bruce Langley, Emily Browning, and Yetide Bataki as Supporting, and Peter Stormare, Orlando Jones, Jonathan Tucker, Omid Abtani, Mousa Kraish, Gillian Anderson, Cheno, Cloris Leachman, and Betty Gilpin as Guest.

Schreiber, Browning, Anderson and Cheno should have been automatic. And Betty Gilpin deserved it to.

by Anonymousreply 117July 13, 2017 8:19 PM

How the fuck does William H Macy keep getting nominated? Did they just forget to erase his name when they were typing up the PowerPoint?

I mean, if Emmy Rossum didn't even get nominated in a season she deserved to win for...

by Anonymousreply 118July 13, 2017 8:31 PM

I agree with a lot already mentioned, like Eden Sher for The Middle. I'd also add The Middle itself, a consistently funny show and still going strong all these years later. Modern Family has sucked the last three seasons but keeps getting Emmy love. Also Sara Gilbert and John Goodman for Roseanne. Gilbert played one of the most realistic teenagers ever seen in a sitcom, the total opposite of the perfect Cosby kids. Without John Goodman as Dan Conner, that show would have never worked.

I'd also add Eva Green and Rory Kennear for Penny Dreadful. If that show had received more Emmy love, it might have had a couple more seasons. Also Elizabeth Moss for Top of the Lake.

by Anonymousreply 119July 13, 2017 8:35 PM

Although the surprise Guest Actress nomination for Shannon Purser is kind of awesome.

by Anonymousreply 120July 13, 2017 8:36 PM

Also will add Uzo Aduba constantly getting noms for Orange Is The New Black. Her performance is good, but Emmy worthy year after year? I don't think so.

by Anonymousreply 121July 13, 2017 9:15 PM

Meridith Baxter should have won the Emmy for her portrayal of Betty Broderick. She was superb! I never realized she had that much depth as an actress. It was the best performance by a television actress in the 1990s.

by Anonymousreply 122July 13, 2017 9:27 PM

The biggest fuck up this year was giving a nomination to Leslie Jones. She doesn't do much but scream on SNL.

by Anonymousreply 123July 13, 2017 9:36 PM

Giving any kind of recognition to Transparent.

by Anonymousreply 124July 13, 2017 9:45 PM

NOTHING for the great Michael McKean in BETTER CALL SAUL??!! Outrageous.

And THIS IS US is pure treacle.

by Anonymousreply 125July 13, 2017 11:20 PM

Judith Light never deserved Emmy nods for Transparent. I love her, but I hate her on that show.

by Anonymousreply 126July 23, 2017 4:58 PM

Back in the 90s, Marcia Cross for her amazing performance as Dr. Kimberly Shaw on Melrose Place should have at least been NOMINATED

An amazing actress who ALWAYS elevated the material

by Anonymousreply 127July 23, 2017 7:34 PM
I'd also add Eva Green and Rory Kennear for Penny Dreadful. If that show had received more Emmy love, it might have had a couple more seasons

I agree those two should have been nominated for Emmys. But, I think the Penny Dreadful creators said something that they only planned for three seasons and kept it mostly secret from a lot of people. Emmy nominations might not have helped the show.

Patti Lupone was terrific guest on Penny Dreadful and should have had an Emmy nomination for season 2.

by Anonymousreply 128August 31, 2017 12:33 AM

Predicted fuck ups for Sunday Night

-Chrissy Metz wins for best supporting actress in a drama instead of Ann Dowd for The Handmaid's Tale.

-This Is Us wins instead of The Handmaid's Tale

by Anonymousreply 129September 15, 2017 11:47 PM

Peter O'Toole should have won for Masada.

by Anonymousreply 130September 15, 2017 11:56 PM

Michael C Hall for Six Feet Under .

by Anonymousreply 131September 15, 2017 11:58 PM

R123, I have to agree. She may very well be a nice person and I'm glad to see her get a shot.

But she yells entirely too much, and all the flirting she does with Colin doesn't come off as funny. All I could think of how would it come off if roles were reversed.

I had an audition at an Improv school in LA; I studied and was coached by a professional actress; when I got in there I yelled way too much; it was getting laughs for some odd reason so I kept going.

But to be really funny is a gift.

by Anonymousreply 132September 16, 2017 2:51 AM

and if we're talking Daytime; Hubbard for Lucinda Walsh; Kathy Hays for Kim Hughes, Grant Aleksander for Phillip Spaulding; Doug Marland for writing ATWT, and Beverlee McKinsey for Alexandra on GL and Iris on AW.

by Anonymousreply 133September 16, 2017 2:52 AM

Yeah, nothing for Nick Offerman of Parks & Rec is one of the biggest Emmy injustices ever.

by Anonymousreply 134September 16, 2017 4:33 AM

If she wins because she's fat and voters want to show that they aren't "prejudiced" ...I will seethe.

by Anonymousreply 135September 16, 2017 4:40 AM

Most of those mentioned in this thread are justified EXCEPT for the douche who said Lauren Graham should have won for Gilmore Girls.

The biggest injustice, however, is Lisa Kudrow's two losses for The Comeback.

by Anonymousreply 136September 16, 2017 4:54 AM

I think Chrissy Metz is a decent actress and she is certainly better than Mandy Moore on This Is Us. I think there is a good chance she will lose because Emmy voters tend to favor cable or streaming shows these days when it comes to dramas.

Leslie Jones should have never been nominated for an Emmy. She yells too much on her Weekend Update bits. She flubs her lines most of the time in regular sketches. She got media attention due to that controversy with Milo Yiannopoulous and his fanboys. I did feel sorry for what those assholes did to her. However, that shouldn't have played a part in the media all of sudden praising her.

Predicted fuck-ups for 2018

-Ted Danson and D'Arcy Carden will be snubbed for their work on The Good Place

-Alex Borstein will be snubbed for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

-Leslie Jones will get another undeserved Emmy nomination for her atrocious work on SNL.

by Anonymousreply 138April 8, 2018 12:12 AM

Other predicted fuck ups for 2018

-Betty Gilpin will be snubbed for Glow

-Zazie Beats will be snubbed for Atlanta

by Anonymousreply 139June 7, 2018 8:07 PM

Absolutely Karen Cellini but I think she went back toi the Hard Rock Cafe in Times Square and is still waiting tables, god love her.

by Anonymousreply 140June 7, 2018 8:12 PM

Leslie Grossman for Popular and her most recent work on American Horror Story: Cult

by Anonymousreply 141June 7, 2018 8:12 PM

Naomi Grossman who played Pepper in AHS: Asylum and Freak Show should have had a guest nomination for the heart breaking Pepper centric episode in Freak Show.

by Anonymousreply 142June 7, 2018 8:16 PM
Also will add Uzo Aduba constantly getting noms for Orange Is The New Black. Her performance is good, but Emmy worthy year after year? I don't think so.

I thought she was one of the better actresses on OITNB. But, yeah she wasn't Emmy worthy.

by Anonymousreply 143June 7, 2018 8:20 PM

Thandie Newton- Westworld. The odds on favourite to win by a mile and she still lost. Fuck the racist Emmy academy.

by Anonymousreply 144June 7, 2018 8:26 PM

I think Cecily Strong deserves an Emmy nomination for SNL. She is much better than Leslie Jones.

by Anonymousreply 145June 7, 2018 8:32 PM

Injustice for winning: Alexander Skarsgard for Big Little Lies. His was the least interesting performance in the show.

by Anonymousreply 146June 7, 2018 8:34 PM

Would love to se both Matthew Rhys and Keri Russell win this year.

by Anonymousreply 147June 7, 2018 8:34 PM

It would be good if Matthew Rhys got a Kyle Chandler type Emmy win.

by Anonymousreply 148June 7, 2018 8:36 PM
-Betty Gilpin will be snubbed for Glow

She was already snubbed last year for American Gods

by Anonymousreply 149June 7, 2018 8:38 PM

Lucille Ball for "The Stone Pillow".

by Anonymousreply 150June 7, 2018 9:07 PM

Please, R146, your eyeballs and asslips were wide open and riveted to the screen for every big little lie Alexander could throw at you. Scotchgard, Swifferbroom, and Flora Fern were the only bright spots in that mess. Kidman was so busy getting fucked on the kitchen countertop she forgot to press assault charges on the hot battering bastard. The Emmy People understood her pussy priority and awarded her the big prize.

by Anonymousreply 151June 7, 2018 10:06 PM

Me not winning for season 2 of AHS.

by Anonymousreply 152June 7, 2018 10:44 PM

Steve Carell should have won an Emmy for The Office.

by Anonymousreply 153June 8, 2018 1:33 AM
Mary McDonnell for BSG and Major Crimes

Agreed. The Emmy voters are biased against certain types of sci-fi. McDonnell was pure gold in "Battlestar Galactica." An overlooked performance.

by Anonymousreply 154June 8, 2018 3:38 AM

Eden Sher being snubbed for The Middle

by Anonymousreply 155June 17, 2018 2:23 PM

R135 lol she lost last year. I don't Chrissy Metz ever winning an Emmy. I think there is chance she'll get edged out this year in nominations.

by Anonymousreply 156July 4, 2018 2:55 AM

Why dont people admit that all awards shows are a farce.....theyre all self congratulatory and there are dozens of award winning performances by working actors that are never recognized because theyre not "stars" or on a hit show.

by Anonymousreply 157July 4, 2018 4:32 AM

Sadly, the D'Arcy Carden snub was correctly predicted. I don't see how Emmy voters are giving nominations to shit actresses like Leslie Jones.

by Anonymousreply 158July 12, 2018 8:39 PM

Eden Sher for "The Middle." She needed one over the 10,000 undeserved Modern Family Emmys.

I also think Jane Krakowski never getting one for 30 Rock is a cryin' shame.

by Anonymousreply 159July 12, 2018 8:51 PM

Angela Lansbury - Sweeny Todd (TV version) and The Blackwater Lightship.

by Anonymousreply 160July 12, 2018 9:05 PM

Michael C Hall never winning (was he even nominated ?) for Six Feet Under .

by Anonymousreply 161July 13, 2018 4:01 AM

R161 No, he was never nominated for Six Feet Under. I actually liked his work on SFU more than his work on Dexter.

by Anonymousreply 162July 13, 2018 4:23 AM

Alison Brie being snubbed for Glow.

by Anonymousreply 163July 24, 2018 9:37 PM

Fuck Michael C Hall, Frances Conroy never winning for Six Feet Under.

by Anonymousreply 164July 24, 2018 9:49 PM

Kristen Bell snubbed.

by Anonymousreply 165July 24, 2018 9:51 PM

Marc Maron's snub for Glow was a fuck up. I hope Betty "Lady Benedict" Gilpin wins as a revenge for Alison and Marc.

by Anonymousreply 166July 24, 2018 10:01 PM

I hope Betty Gilpin wins because she's phenomenal. She also should have been nominated for American Gods.

by Anonymousreply 167July 24, 2018 10:06 PM

Carrie Coon should have had Emmy nominations for The Leftovers.

by Anonymousreply 168August 4, 2018 4:33 AM

Predicted fuck ups for tomorrow night

-Matthew Rhys loses in the outstanding lead actor drama category to the overrated Sterling K. Brown

-Kate McKinnon wins in the supporting comedy actress category after having a weak season on SNL

by Anonymousreply 169September 17, 2018 12:04 AM

Also, Tiffany Haddish didn't deserve to win a guest Emmy for SNL. She was awful in that episode.

by Anonymousreply 170September 17, 2018 12:08 AM

Predicted Emmy snubs for next month

D'Arcy Carden for The Good Place

Cecily Strong for Saturday Night Live

Joey King for The Act

Linda Cardellini for Dead to Me

by Anonymousreply 171June 19, 2019 1:16 AM

I've worked in the business for years and only recently learned of FYC panels; shows spend TONS of money hosting FYC (For Your Consideration) panels in which voters come and listen to people talk about their shows and performances etc.

They're supposed to inform Emmy voters on who to vote for -- I'm naïve; I thought voters would be up on who's who and what's what throughout the year to make an informed choice.

I shouldn't be surprised it doesn't work; there are over 700 shows right now. It was one thing back in the '70s when I presume Mary Tyler Moore went up against All the Family and other Norman Lear shows. What else were there?

Now, there are too many shows.

I do think the Daytime Emmys get this wrong, too. No Beverlee McKinsey for Iris or Alex? No Hubbard or Hays for their roles on ATWT?

It's all a crap shoot.

by Anonymousreply 172June 19, 2019 1:21 AM

Vanessa Kirby should have won for "The Crown."

by Anonymousreply 173June 19, 2019 1:23 AM
Agreed. The Emmy voters are biased against certain types of sci-fi. McDonnell was pure gold in "Battlestar Galactica." An overlooked performance

I agree with this. I remember some TV blogger saying that it was an Emmy injustice that Mariska Hargitay would get nominated for average work on SVU, meanwhile McDonnell was miles ahead performance wise for BSG.

by Anonymousreply 174June 19, 2019 1:59 AM

Elizabeth Montgomery never received an Emmy for Bewitched or any of her TV movies.

by Anonymousreply 175June 19, 2019 2:03 AM

Susan Sarandon or Jessica Lange though nominated, not winning for Feud. Nicole Kidman hasn’t acted since her first Botox injection in 2002.

Delta Burke for Designing Women

Robin Wright for House of Cards

Meredith Baxter for Betty Broderick

Dylan McDermott for AHS

by Anonymousreply 176June 19, 2019 2:28 AM

Another vote for Lisa Kudrow for both seasons of “The Comeback”!

by Anonymousreply 177June 19, 2019 2:36 AM

R44 I agree that Melissa Peterman and Steve Howey should have gotten at least a nomination for supporting during Reba's run, but I would also add that Reba should gotten at least one nomination herself. During the run of Reba, Patricia Heaton was nominated every year and Debra Messing and Jennifer Aniston, got multiple noms and a win each, and Reba was consistently as good or better than them.

by Anonymousreply 178June 19, 2019 3:47 AM

Rob Morrow as Dr. Joel Fleishman in Northern Exposure. He lost to Christopher Lloyd, who was a GUEST STAR on a Disney show. I think the Emmy's chances the rules of submission after that.

by Anonymousreply 179June 19, 2019 5:43 PM

Calista Flockhart deserved one for the first or second season of Ally McBeal instead of them giving 4 to that piece of wet toast Helen Hunt!

Kim Cattrall deserved one for creating the iconic Samantha Jones

Angela Lansbury should have won for the TV version of Sweeney Todd

by Anonymousreply 180June 19, 2019 6:36 PM

Ann Dowd was snubbed for The Leftovers.

by Anonymousreply 181June 20, 2019 3:03 PM
I don't see how Emmy voters are giving nominations to shit actresses like Leslie Jones.

You can't be that naive!

by Anonymousreply 182June 20, 2019 5:02 PM

R82 LOL! But it's so bizarre that "The Comeback"'s two seasons were about ten years apart and Kudrow lost both times to JLD but for two different shows ("Old Christine," "Veep")

by Anonymousreply 183June 20, 2019 5:05 PM

R98 'twas Bryan Cranston for BREAKING BAD who beat Laurie's HOUSE. Shalhoub won his Emmys for MONK in the Comedy category.

by Anonymousreply 184June 20, 2019 5:10 PM

Whoever that godamn awful Gaga bitching beat for her emmy was robbed!

by Anonymousreply 185June 20, 2019 5:12 PM

R31 Don't forget me! I took the baton from Candice (after she stopped submitting herself) and swept the latter '90s!

by Anonymousreply 186June 20, 2019 5:14 PM

Angela Lansbury should have won for her heartbreaking turn as Jessica Fletcher in Murder, She Wrote's 1991's episode "Thursday's Child".

Vera Miles plays a troublemaker who tells Jess that her beloved dead husband Frank and she had an affair many years ago and their illegitimate son is now accused of murder!

Angela really brought her A-game (and tears!) to this episode, yet still lost to the previous year's winner, some woman called Patricia Wettig for "thirtysomething..."?! Huh

by Anonymousreply 187June 20, 2019 5:53 PM

It surprises and saddens me that Peri Gilpin was never nominated even once for her work on Frasier. All of the other main cast were at some point. It sucks for her to have been the only actor left out. Roz is my favorite character on the show, largely because of her.

by Anonymousreply 188June 20, 2019 6:58 PM

Chloe Sevigny, Big Love Lorraine Toussaint, Orange is the New Black Katey Sagal, Sons of Anarchy Laurie Metcalf, Horace and Pete (nominated, did not win).

by Anonymousreply 189June 20, 2019 7:08 PM

Famke Janssen, Nip/Tuck season 2

by Anonymousreply 190June 20, 2019 7:17 PM

Marcia Cross should have won instead of Felicity Huffman for Season One of Desperate Housewives.

Huffman should have won for Season 3 "Bang" - the supermarket hostage episode.

Lucy Liu should have won Best Supporting for playing Ling in Ally McBeal Season 2 for "Angels and Blimps" where the boy dies of cancer and we finally see Ling's softer side.

by Anonymousreply 191June 20, 2019 7:26 PM

R188 if it's any consolation, I never received a nomination, either, while the rest of my cast were nominated and most won.

by Anonymousreply 192June 20, 2019 8:47 PM

Has anyone mentioned how robbed Kirsten Dunst was for Fargo, cause she really was.

by Anonymousreply 193June 20, 2019 9:07 PM

Melissa McBride as Carol on Walking Dead. Great character arc as meeky, abused woman into a total badass.

by Anonymousreply 194June 20, 2019 9:42 PM

Lisa Kudrow was robbed by JLD.

by Anonymousreply 195June 20, 2019 9:44 PM

All deserved nominations:

Sharon Spellman for Angie.

Zara Cully for the Jeffersons

Dixie Carter for Designing Women

Candice Bergen winning five times for Murphy Brown was ridiculous even though the show was good . Ditto Helen Hunt even winning one for Mad About You which is one of the worst hit shows ever done. These two had a lock on the category for a decade.

by Anonymousreply 196June 20, 2019 9:53 PM

Ditto about Bergen, especially when Bergen's wins were shutting out the funnier Roseanne. I hate her now, but she was clearly funnier than Candice. The Emmy voters had an elitist attitude about the working class Conner family.

by Anonymousreply 197June 20, 2019 10:00 PM

I think Elizabeth Montgomery should've won for her highest profile tv movie "Lizzie Borden." It was such a hit with audiences Elizabeth received various kinds of axes from fans for the rest the of her life. Liz was still stunningly beautiful and gave a flawless performance. But old crone Katherine Hepburn decided to make a tv movie that year, wiping out anyone else's chance of winning the Emmy.

by Anonymousreply 198June 20, 2019 10:07 PM

R193 I agree with you on that one.

by Anonymousreply 199June 21, 2019 12:01 AM

Any fuck up predictions for nominations on Tuesday?

by Anonymousreply 200July 13, 2019 3:01 PM

Will Lange get a shot at guest actress?

by Anonymousreply 201July 13, 2019 8:31 PM

'OZ' should have won all the awards, for writing and acting

by Anonymousreply 202July 13, 2019 8:57 PM

Still hard to believe Keri Russell never won one for The Americans.

by Anonymousreply 203July 13, 2019 9:17 PM

R203 She should have had at least one Emmy win.

by Anonymousreply 204July 13, 2019 11:58 PM

Predicted fuck up for next week's ceremony

Michelle Williams loses in the movie/mini-series category to overrated Patricia Arquette

by Anonymousreply 205September 16, 2019 6:19 PM

Next week's likely fuck-up at the nominations

Zoe Kazan snubbed for The Plot Against America

D'Arcy Carden snubbed for The Good Place
