The Emmys have never been great. "The Wire" never won a single emmy (and was only ever nominated for one twice in it's run), that tells you everything you need to know right there.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | December 29, 2015 4:45 PM |
I totally agree with the second one. Naomi Grossman should have won certainly an award for her performance in AHS. It's a disgrace that she wasn't even nominated.
I have never watched 'Parks and Recreation', so i can't say anything about it.

Julia Duffy was nominated seven times for [italic]Newhart[/italic] and never won once. Had the show gone on any longer than it did, she might have become the Susan Lucci of sitcoms.

Another nod for Naomi Grossman. That episode of AHS: Freakshow about Pepper's backstory was heartbreaking. Grossman should have a t LEAST been nominated for that incredible performance.

Mary McDonnell for BSG and Major Crimes

I agree about Nick Offerman. The Emmys are bullshit. The same people win year after year. Enough already with Julia Louis-Dreyfuss!

Melissa McBride (Carol on YHE WALKING DEAD) elevates every scene she's in with her performance. I thought she'd get a nomination a couple of years ago for the episode The Grove. Ann Dowd (Patti) and Justin Theroux (Kevin) are equally outstanding on THE LEFTOVERS. The recent episode, International Assassin, gave me chills it was so good.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | December 29, 2015 6:01 PM |
Lauren Graham, Kelly Bishop and Amy Sherman-Palladino all should have Emmys for Gilmore Girls. None of them was ever even nominated.
Party of Five's first three seasons all had Emmy-worthy work in them.
Bess Armstrong should have won (or at least been nominated) for My So Called Life.

Connie Britton deserved an Emmy nomination for the first season of Friday Night Lights. She was terrific that season. She did get nominations during the last two seasons of FNL, but those seasons weren't as strong as the first season.

Edie Falco winning three Emmys for The Sopranos were injustices. She was overrated on that show. Lorraine Bracco got nominations but never won and again she was overrated. Falco has Emmy nominations and one win for Nurse Jackie. Does Falco fuck important to get Emmy and SAG nominations?
Also Tituss Burgess should have won the past year for Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.

R24-
Eden Sher- yes, she's fabulous. The ensemble on The Middle is generally amazing, but she is the most layered character and actress.
The Emmys should change the rule so that once you win for that character, you are no longer eligible for nomination. There are too many actors with multiple Emmy's for a single role, whereas an emeritus status would have allowed more recognition of new talent.
Tatiana Maslenay got recognized while SM Gellar never got a chance.

Noel Fisher as a supporting actor in Shameless. Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton for Friday Night Lights - I think he had one acting nod. The Wire got shafted but everybody knows that. I would love it if they put a moratorium on the number of times someone could be nommed for the same role/show.

I was watching a Reba marathon this weekend on TV Land and I thought that both Melissa Peterman and Steve Howey both had great comedic timing and took two stereotypical roles and made them into real, likable characters. Of course, as the series went on, it became way more cartoonish and went down in quality, but I could have seen one or both of them getting supporting comedy noms.

I think if Giancarlo Esposito had been allowed to contend in Guest Actor he'd have an Emmy. The Emmy rules are absurd. Transparent is NOT A COMEDY. Is Jeffrey Tambor trying to get laughs? Don't think so! Just because the Emmy rules state that 30 minutes = Comedy category, and 60 minutes = Drama. SO DUMB. I feel really sorry for the other actors in Lead Comedy Actor.

It's a shame that Tatiana Maslany only has one nomination, and no wins. I doubt she'll be nominated this year.
Ludicrous that no one from Mad Men ever won an acting Emmy until they finally gave it to John Hamm. Hendricks and Moss were both deserving over the years.
The Americans should be getting WAY more nominations than it does.
THE performance that deserves a nomination this year is Louie Anderson as the MOTHER on 'Baskets'. He turned something that could have been a one-note stunt role (look, it's a man playing a woman!) into something deeper--but still funny.

Emmy voters never liked nighttime soaps

Hagman and Collins were robbed of Emmys.
Personally, I would have given Pamela Sue Martin an Emmy for Supporting Actress for Dynasty's first season.
Emmy voters rarely gave any love to nighttime sudsers - Barbara Bel Geddes won for the breast cancer story; Michele Lee and Julie Harris were nominated for Knots.

I have never watched any of the 80s nighttime soaps so I picture Hagman as being a goofy actor the way he was on I Dream of Jeannie, did he have real talent?
I'm surprised Hugh Laurie never won, R96, was the competition/winner more deserving?

I'm pretty sure that House came along during one of the periods where the Emmys get stuck in a rut and just award the same person year after year. Julia Louis-Dreyfuss is the current beneficiary, and IIRC, back then it was Tony Shaloub.

I agree with a lot already mentioned, like Eden Sher for The Middle. I'd also add The Middle itself, a consistently funny show and still going strong all these years later. Modern Family has sucked the last three seasons but keeps getting Emmy love. Also Sara Gilbert and John Goodman for Roseanne. Gilbert played one of the most realistic teenagers ever seen in a sitcom, the total opposite of the perfect Cosby kids. Without John Goodman as Dan Conner, that show would have never worked.
I'd also add Eva Green and Rory Kennear for Penny Dreadful. If that show had received more Emmy love, it might have had a couple more seasons. Also Elizabeth Moss for Top of the Lake.

I agree those two should have been nominated for Emmys. But, I think the Penny Dreadful creators said something that they only planned for three seasons and kept it mostly secret from a lot of people. Emmy nominations might not have helped the show.
Patti Lupone was terrific guest on Penny Dreadful and should have had an Emmy nomination for season 2.

Predicted fuck ups for Sunday Night
-Chrissy Metz wins for best supporting actress in a drama instead of Ann Dowd for The Handmaid's Tale.
-This Is Us wins instead of The Handmaid's Tale

Peter O'Toole should have won for Masada.
by Anonymous | reply 130 | September 15, 2017 11:56 PM |
Michael C Hall for Six Feet Under .
by Anonymous | reply 131 | September 15, 2017 11:58 PM |
R123, I have to agree. She may very well be a nice person and I'm glad to see her get a shot.
But she yells entirely too much, and all the flirting she does with Colin doesn't come off as funny. All I could think of how would it come off if roles were reversed.
I had an audition at an Improv school in LA; I studied and was coached by a professional actress; when I got in there I yelled way too much; it was getting laughs for some odd reason so I kept going.
But to be really funny is a gift.
by Anonymous | reply 132 | September 16, 2017 2:51 AM |
and if we're talking Daytime; Hubbard for Lucinda Walsh; Kathy Hays for Kim Hughes, Grant Aleksander for Phillip Spaulding; Doug Marland for writing ATWT, and Beverlee McKinsey for Alexandra on GL and Iris on AW.

Yeah, nothing for Nick Offerman of Parks & Rec is one of the biggest Emmy injustices ever.
by Anonymous | reply 134 | September 16, 2017 4:33 AM |
If she wins because she's fat and voters want to show that they aren't "prejudiced" ...I will seethe.
by Anonymous | reply 135 | September 16, 2017 4:40 AM |
Most of those mentioned in this thread are justified EXCEPT for the douche who said Lauren Graham should have won for Gilmore Girls.
The biggest injustice, however, is Lisa Kudrow's two losses for The Comeback.
by Anonymous | reply 136 | September 16, 2017 4:54 AM |
I think Chrissy Metz is a decent actress and she is certainly better than Mandy Moore on This Is Us. I think there is a good chance she will lose because Emmy voters tend to favor cable or streaming shows these days when it comes to dramas.
Leslie Jones should have never been nominated for an Emmy. She yells too much on her Weekend Update bits. She flubs her lines most of the time in regular sketches. She got media attention due to that controversy with Milo Yiannopoulous and his fanboys. I did feel sorry for what those assholes did to her. However, that shouldn't have played a part in the media all of sudden praising her.

Predicted fuck-ups for 2018

-Leslie Jones will get another undeserved Emmy nomination for her atrocious work on SNL.

Absolutely Karen Cellini but I think she went back toi the Hard Rock Cafe in Times Square and is still waiting tables, god love her.

Leslie Grossman for Popular and her most recent work on American Horror Story: Cult
by Anonymous | reply 141 | June 7, 2018 8:12 PM |
Naomi Grossman who played Pepper in AHS: Asylum and Freak Show should have had a guest nomination for the heart breaking Pepper centric episode in Freak Show.
Also will add Uzo Aduba constantly getting noms for Orange Is The New Black. Her performance is good, but Emmy worthy year after year? I don't think so.
I thought she was one of the better actresses on OITNB. But, yeah she wasn't Emmy worthy.

Thandie Newton- Westworld. The odds on favourite to win by a mile and she still lost. Fuck the racist Emmy academy.
by Anonymous | reply 144 | June 7, 2018 8:26 PM |
I think Cecily Strong deserves an Emmy nomination for SNL. She is much better than Leslie Jones.
by Anonymous | reply 145 | June 7, 2018 8:32 PM |
Injustice for winning: Alexander Skarsgard for Big Little Lies. His was the least interesting performance in the show.

Would love to se both Matthew Rhys and Keri Russell win this year.
by Anonymous | reply 147 | June 7, 2018 8:34 PM |
It would be good if Matthew Rhys got a Kyle Chandler type Emmy win.

She was already snubbed last year for American Gods

Lucille Ball for "The Stone Pillow".
by Anonymous | reply 150 | June 7, 2018 9:07 PM |
Please, R146, your eyeballs and asslips were wide open and riveted to the screen for every big little lie Alexander could throw at you. Scotchgard, Swifferbroom, and Flora Fern were the only bright spots in that mess. Kidman was so busy getting fucked on the kitchen countertop she forgot to press assault charges on the hot battering bastard. The Emmy People understood her pussy priority and awarded her the big prize.

Steve Carell should have won an Emmy for The Office.
Mary McDonnell for BSG and Major Crimes
Agreed. The Emmy voters are biased against certain types of sci-fi. McDonnell was pure gold in "Battlestar Galactica." An overlooked performance.

R135 lol she lost last year. I don't Chrissy Metz ever winning an Emmy. I think there is chance she'll get edged out this year in nominations.
by Anonymous | reply 156 | July 4, 2018 2:55 AM |
Why dont people admit that all awards shows are a farce.....theyre all self congratulatory and there are dozens of award winning performances by working actors that are never recognized because theyre not "stars" or on a hit show.
by Anonymous | reply 157 | July 4, 2018 4:32 AM |
Sadly, the D'Arcy Carden snub was correctly predicted. I don't see how Emmy voters are giving nominations to shit actresses like Leslie Jones.
by Anonymous | reply 158 | July 12, 2018 8:39 PM |
Eden Sher for "The Middle." She needed one over the 10,000 undeserved Modern Family Emmys.
I also think Jane Krakowski never getting one for 30 Rock is a cryin' shame.

-Kate McKinnon wins in the supporting comedy actress category after having a weak season on SNL

Linda Cardellini for Dead to Me

I've worked in the business for years and only recently learned of FYC panels; shows spend TONS of money hosting FYC (For Your Consideration) panels in which voters come and listen to people talk about their shows and performances etc.
They're supposed to inform Emmy voters on who to vote for -- I'm naïve; I thought voters would be up on who's who and what's what throughout the year to make an informed choice.
I shouldn't be surprised it doesn't work; there are over 700 shows right now. It was one thing back in the '70s when I presume Mary Tyler Moore went up against All the Family and other Norman Lear shows. What else were there?
Now, there are too many shows.
I do think the Daytime Emmys get this wrong, too. No Beverlee McKinsey for Iris or Alex? No Hubbard or Hays for their roles on ATWT?
It's all a crap shoot.

I agree with this. I remember some TV blogger saying that it was an Emmy injustice that Mariska Hargitay would get nominated for average work on SVU, meanwhile McDonnell was miles ahead performance wise for BSG.

Susan Sarandon or Jessica Lange though nominated, not winning for Feud. Nicole Kidman hasn’t acted since her first Botox injection in 2002.
Delta Burke for Designing Women
Robin Wright for House of Cards
Meredith Baxter for Betty Broderick
Dylan McDermott for AHS

by Anonymous | reply 177 | June 19, 2019 2:36 AM |
R44 I agree that Melissa Peterman and Steve Howey should have gotten at least a nomination for supporting during Reba's run, but I would also add that Reba should gotten at least one nomination herself. During the run of Reba, Patricia Heaton was nominated every year and Debra Messing and Jennifer Aniston, got multiple noms and a win each, and Reba was consistently as good or better than them.

Rob Morrow as Dr. Joel Fleishman in Northern Exposure. He lost to Christopher Lloyd, who was a GUEST STAR on a Disney show. I think the Emmy's chances the rules of submission after that.

Calista Flockhart deserved one for the first or second season of Ally McBeal instead of them giving 4 to that piece of wet toast Helen Hunt!
Kim Cattrall deserved one for creating the iconic Samantha Jones
Angela Lansbury should have won for the TV version of Sweeney Todd

Angela Lansbury should have won for her heartbreaking turn as Jessica Fletcher in Murder, She Wrote's 1991's episode "Thursday's Child".
Vera Miles plays a troublemaker who tells Jess that her beloved dead husband Frank and she had an affair many years ago and their illegitimate son is now accused of murder!
Angela really brought her A-game (and tears!) to this episode, yet still lost to the previous year's winner, some woman called Patricia Wettig for "thirtysomething..."?! Huh
by Anonymous | reply 187 | June 20, 2019 5:53 PM |
It surprises and saddens me that Peri Gilpin was never nominated even once for her work on Frasier. All of the other main cast were at some point. It sucks for her to have been the only actor left out. Roz is my favorite character on the show, largely because of her.
by Anonymous | reply 188 | June 20, 2019 6:58 PM |
Chloe Sevigny, Big Love Lorraine Toussaint, Orange is the New Black Katey Sagal, Sons of Anarchy Laurie Metcalf, Horace and Pete (nominated, did not win).

Famke Janssen, Nip/Tuck season 2

Marcia Cross should have won instead of Felicity Huffman for Season One of Desperate Housewives.
Huffman should have won for Season 3 "Bang" - the supermarket hostage episode.
Lucy Liu should have won Best Supporting for playing Ling in Ally McBeal Season 2 for "Angels and Blimps" where the boy dies of cancer and we finally see Ling's softer side.
by Anonymous | reply 191 | June 20, 2019 7:26 PM |

Sharon Spellman for Angie.
Zara Cully for the Jeffersons
Dixie Carter for Designing Women
Candice Bergen winning five times for Murphy Brown was ridiculous even though the show was good . Ditto Helen Hunt even winning one for Mad About You which is one of the worst hit shows ever done. These two had a lock on the category for a decade.
by Anonymous | reply 196 | June 20, 2019 9:53 PM |
Ditto about Bergen, especially when Bergen's wins were shutting out the funnier Roseanne. I hate her now, but she was clearly funnier than Candice. The Emmy voters had an elitist attitude about the working class Conner family.

I think Elizabeth Montgomery should've won for her highest profile tv movie "Lizzie Borden." It was such a hit with audiences Elizabeth received various kinds of axes from fans for the rest the of her life. Liz was still stunningly beautiful and gave a flawless performance. But old crone Katherine Hepburn decided to make a tv movie that year, wiping out anyone else's chance of winning the Emmy.
