Do you consider Rita Ora White?
She's ethnic Albanian from Kosovo. I've always believed Whites like this are at the extreme end of the race spectrum, but then I thought about some past experiences that made me rethink how the are perceived.
Once in school, a fellow student made a comment that this dark Italian girl was not White, but latin. I was like "WTF - um, geography please."
Another time, an acquaintance brought his fiance to meet his White parents. The first thing out of their mouths was, "what are you?" Once she said Bulgarian, their demeanor towards her changed. That night he called her and told her his parents did not want them to marry because she is not White, and the wedding was off. From what I gather, it's fairly typical for the parents to do an ethnicity cross-examination, especially if a son is involved.
I sometimes ask the question and get the same public response: "who gives a fuck?" But, I sometimes wonder if there is some closeted pecking order that I not spoken about in polite conversation.

Um, I'm the OP and I posted both pictures. She hasn't been "done up" (what a peculiar accusation) to look Black in the first one. Take away the lip gloss and you can see she's barlely wearing any makeup. There are also tons of video and pictures you can google that show she doesn't look like the average White girl.

I'm Dutch and have the same hair color and complexion as Henry Cavill. My blonde haired fellow Dutch citizens often ask me what country I'm 'really' from, while in the US nobody thinks I look even remotely 'ethnic'. I guess, that in countries like Sweden or Finland, even most WASP US citizens would not be considered fully white. I always get the sense that the blondes in Europe secretly hate dark-haired/dark-eyed people, even if they are white. Maybe it's the legacy of WW2 Nazi occupation.

Most peoples perception of race is completely visual, she may be "White" racially but I can bet you that most White people don't see themselves in her and that she's been perceived to be another race her entire life. Nobody looks at you and see's your DNA/lineage they just see your skin and facial features. This is what I find fascinating about this place. So many of you grow up in these small, sheltered little towns and then you come here and ask silly questions either because you don't know better or just to rile people up. The truth is, if you traveled outside of Bumblestop Flyoverland, you would see a world that isn't just black and white. For most of the world, white doesn't mean snow white and black doesn't mean coal black. There are many shades and variations and mixes along the way. But we live in a world now where we've turned ethnicities into races. If we must categorize, then most Hispanics, Persians, etc. etc. etc. would go into the Caucasian category.

R128, not meaning to derail the thread, but there's a hung jury of sorts about whether or not she's black. You can read some opinions in the comments to this Madame Noire article.
I skimmed through her autobiography once, and I remember her mentioning that certain African Americans confused her for black, since she was raised in the American South, where things like this matter. She also mentioned having to deal with her "bad hair" which, to black people, means "kinky" or "nappy."
However, she gave no indication of identifying as black, and certainly not as African American. She identifies as American of Eyptian parentage, and made it clear that she does NOT speak Arabic, because it's not HER language -- it's her parent's.

What I'm really asking white people is this: Would you consider a white or whitish looking person as "white" if they had some non-caucasian ancestry, particularly if it's negroid african? I remember when the answer to that was "hell, no!" The one-drop theory came from this type of thinking.
But how do 21st century whites think about this? How is progression progressing?

My belief, r127, is that Hoda would say, yes, Egypt is in Africa, but she's not African American, but Egyptian American, with a strong emphasis on the American. In other words, she doesn't see herself as part of the American Black culture and experience, unlike Barack Obama. I couldn't agree with you more R132.

Racial designations are anything we decide that they are. Racial designations aren't immutable facts, they are something we made up and can change over time. That's what makes this whole discussion silly.

She is either White/Caucasian, Mongoloid/Asian, Negroid/Black, or Australoid. Given her background, I'll go with White/Caucasian.

But the "Iranians" speak Farsi (Persian) not Iranian.

[Quote]I am still trying to figure out how some family got away with telling that guy that Bulgarians are not white.
Some people would have a real problem with this woman, even the americanized version, entering their family.

But the reason is not that she is not white. Bulgaria is very white and very bigoted against anyone with dark skin.

One of these girls is Italian-American, the other is Latina.
Can you tell which is which (without cheating)?

How do we get rid of the race-baiting troll and these endlessly stupid threads about people's color? He posts this shit every day.

R136 The Americans speak English, that doesn't make them English people, they are Americans. Mexicans speak Spanish, they aren't Spanish people they are Mexicans. I could go on, but... you get it.

R139 What's your point? There are and have been blacks who look white and no one can tell they aren't white. That doesn't mean they are.

Aww, the race-baiting troll at R142 got her widdle feewings hurt. Poor thing.
That's what happens when you're a dumb cunt, you dumb cunt. Do you seriously believe that you are going to successfully turn educated gay men into racists? You won't, you moron.

That's what I thought, too, R148, but it's actually the other way around.

Oh well. As has been pointed out, anyone can be a latina. The latina in the pic could have two 100% Italian parents, meaning the two girls come from the same genetic stock.

Interesting how Caucasians and Mongloids, whites and Asians respectively, derived their "scientific" names from the places where they're believed to have originated, but Negroids, blacks, are named after a color. Hmmm...

I don't know about her racial background, but that horrible blonde dye job is not doing her any favors. Why do all these ugly singers have to dye their hair a gross yellow color which does zero to enhance their natural skin color?
1. Stefani 2. Ora 3. Aguilera 4. Spears 5. Madge 6. Beeyawnce 7. "Hips don't lie" singer 8. Gaga 9. Minogue 10 Clarkson

R154 Kylie Minogue has been blond since childhood, I presume it's natural.

R82 I think Persian was used properly. Iranian is a nationality, but Persian is an ethnic group.
There is confusion because Persians are the predominant ethnic group in Iran. But there are also, Assyrians, Arabs, Jews, and other groups.
So you can be Iranian without being Persian.
And you can be Persian without ever having set foot in Iran.
(An American parallel would be WASP as the predominant group, but not all Americans are WASPS.)

Rita is coonesian in appearance, but considering all the bull a kid has to endure being black, let's just go along and say she's white. I only wish we could wave a magic wand and do the same for all people of color. Meanness based on skin color is truly our greatest sadness today.
