He was talented

His rendition of O Holy Night is really good. I think most people found out after he was busted in the park bathroom.

by Anonymousreply 1December 19, 2015 3:25 AM

I thought he was busted for trying to pick up a male prostitute in his car?! Or was he busted in a restroom, too?

by Anonymousreply 2December 19, 2015 3:58 PM

He was cute back then. Any recent pix?

by Anonymousreply 3December 19, 2015 8:28 PM

There were rumors he was with Rashaan Patterson. Patterson was also a Star Search Jr. winner. He already seems like a queen at 12.

I think he did Hairspray on the Broadway, yes (Tevin, not Patterson)?

by Anonymousreply 5December 19, 2015 10:51 PM

Recently saw him on Soul Train Music Awards - Tribute to Babyface. Still sounded pretty decent.

by Anonymousreply 6December 19, 2015 11:53 PM

Today's trade is tomorrow's competition.

And tomorrow is today.

by Anonymousreply 7December 19, 2015 11:55 PM

Didn't he hang out with Eddie Murphy's downlow posse back in the day?

by Anonymousreply 8December 20, 2015 12:16 AM

Holy shit. That third boy Teddy Winn in R4's video was horrible. I can see him as a singer in some hotel lounge along I95 in Connecticut trying to croon. "Thank you. You've been the best audience ever. Try the veal."

In R4'S clip Danny Gerard grew up to star in a pretty good tv show called Brooklyn Bridge in 1991. It didn't last more than a season as the ratings were dismal but I used to enjoy it a lot. He's a writer now.

by Anonymousreply 11December 20, 2015 1:41 AM

That voice is still amazing. He's apparently reviving his career.

by Anonymousreply 12December 20, 2015 3:33 AM

A complete bitch during the 'Spray.

by Anonymousreply 13December 20, 2015 3:44 AM

He ain't gay. He jus' haven't found the right ho yet.

by Anonymousreply 14December 20, 2015 2:42 PM

I remember reading that someone who used to work with Prince said that they caught Tevin masturbating behind the curtain or scenery watching Prince while they were making the Prince video in which Tevin appeared. That seems rather scuzzy.

by Anonymousreply 16December 20, 2015 4:48 PM

From the link I attached . . .

Though their were murmurs about his sexuality before the fact, people really started speculating after an arrest in 1999 where he was caught by an undercover male cop soliciting "lewd acts." He plead no contest to the charges, paid his fines, and had to attend Narcotics Anonymous classes as well as an AIDS awareness course, but his career fell off at that point. While many people believe that he is openly gay, in an interview he claims that he could care less what people think of his sexuality. Well, at least he stands out now.

It's nobody's business what I like to do behind closed doors, ……And I like the fact that people wanna know. Let 'em wonder. I like to leave a little bit to the imagination. But if you happen to get to know me and we hit it off… I share a lot of personal things with friends, which is a normal thing to do."[/italic]

Oh my God @R15. I hope that ain't the truth, I love Graffiti Bridge so much.

(This is Tevin's part of the movie btw)

R19, why do you like Graffiti Bridge so much? It's widely panned as a bad and cheap-looking film. The music is good though

by Anonymousreply 20January 4, 2016 1:49 AM

Round and Round is fantastic, a classic.

I still looove "Tell me! Whata ya wantmeeeee to doooooooooooo ooooh ooh ooooh!"

Sigh.

by Anonymousreply 21January 4, 2016 1:54 AM

I know it isn't high-art or even quality filmmaking, R20, but I appreciate for its strengths. It's quirky, vibrant, with an experimental feel. It's a studio musical but the weirdest take on the genre I've ever seen, which interests me. It also gives me a glimpse into the mind of someone whose music I adore and admire, so I have to value it with the rest of the Prince canon. I enjoyed Graffiti far more than Under The Cherry Moon, which I found pretentious and slow.

But, if you want a more successful film Tevin worked on, how about A Goofy Movie? The Powerline sequences are an underrated gem, energetic and sexy. It's a change from that anodyne, reedy, saccharine warbling Prince/Princess shit which that studio constantly peddle.

Thanks so much, R22. It does have its strengths even though it's bizarre in many ways (I consider bizarre a strength). I like Under the Cherry Moon for the cinematography and music, although Prince is a horrid, pretentious, narcissistic director. It could have been a much better film had Prince allowed the original director to do her work rather than make it a film of ego masturbation in which Prince and his own beauty is the sole focus. He made Kristen Scott-Thomas look like an ugly duckling compared to him.

by Anonymousreply 23January 4, 2016 2:16 AM

He's got that huge Somalian forehead. Is he from there?

by Anonymousreply 24January 4, 2016 2:24 AM

Yeah, by way of Texas. African Americans come from western part of Africa, not east.

by Anonymousreply 25January 4, 2016 2:29 AM

R25, are you familiar with the plight of Minneapolis right now?

by Anonymousreply 26January 4, 2016 2:35 AM

What is the plight of Minneapolis?

by Anonymousreply 40August 18, 2018 3:50 AM

I wonder if he was diddled by Jacko or Quincy Jones...even though they both preferred young white twinks.
