Cast 'shocked' and frustrated
CBS' mysterious cancellation of 'Mike & Molly'
by Anonymous | reply 80 | October 1, 2019 1:50 AM |
Did Melissa try to eat someone on the set like she did on the Bridesmaids set?
by Anonymous | reply 1 | December 16, 2015 3:39 AM |
You'd think she'd want it cancelled. She has better roles in movies.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | December 16, 2015 3:40 AM |
I don't know why it's shocking. CBS has held it for midseason for basically its entire existence. Has it been on a single fall lineup after its first year? It has enough episodes for syndication. It's never been liked by critics or the Emmys. Melissa McCarthy is, um, busy.
I think she asked for more money and CBS said, fuck it.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | December 16, 2015 3:41 AM |
R3 I agree. McCarthy probably asked for a truckload and CBS added up the ratings and budget and said, "No."
But she'll make tens of millions from movies and several million from syndication so...boo fucking hoo
by Anonymous | reply 4 | December 16, 2015 3:44 AM |
It's only funny when one of them is obese.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | December 16, 2015 3:50 AM |
No fat chicks.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | December 16, 2015 3:50 AM |
CBS is trimming the fat. They had been living high on the hog with McCarthy.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | December 16, 2015 4:03 AM |
How can I make this the fault of the homos?
by Anonymous | reply 8 | December 16, 2015 4:09 AM |
It might be CBS sending a message to Chuck Lorre more than anything to do with McCarthy.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | December 16, 2015 4:15 AM |
Why would they want to send a message to him R(? He's done quite well for them.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | December 16, 2015 4:16 AM |
I love how Melissa McCarthy was in shock. But I am sure she is more than a bit relieved. She is a much bigger star than the rest of the cast combined. She was probably looking at the rise and fall of Jason Segel's career and how he rode out his fame on How I Met Your Mother and decided not to go that route.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | December 16, 2015 4:21 AM |

*snort*
by Anonymous | reply 12 | December 16, 2015 4:24 AM |
Melissa McCarthy is an Emmy stealing pig.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | December 16, 2015 4:51 AM |
rumor is that Melissa no longer wants to do the show so that's why in turn the cancellation
by Anonymous | reply 14 | December 16, 2015 6:14 AM |
She's got to be available for the Gilmore Girls movies.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | December 16, 2015 7:05 AM |
I had a voice coach in Chicago who hated Rondi Reed because she claimed she got cast in all the good roles at Steppenwolf and wasn't very good. I might be biased but I pretty much agree with her.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | December 16, 2015 7:15 AM |
Billy Gardell will be shot to oblivion. He's the big career fatality.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | December 16, 2015 7:49 AM |
Did she get to thin? Wasn't the shows premise two fatasses?
by Anonymous | reply 18 | December 16, 2015 8:04 AM |
She couldn't ever be too thin.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | December 16, 2015 8:57 AM |
Cast shocked and frustrated with the shitty scripts.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | December 16, 2015 9:34 AM |
It was quite ok for awhile then got rather dull.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | December 16, 2015 10:45 AM |
The TV show had to go, you don't wear that chintzy bib if you want to eat at Brad and Angelina's table. Melissa is a movie star now.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | December 16, 2015 11:47 AM |
Justice for Swoozie!
by Anonymous | reply 23 | December 16, 2015 12:00 PM |
Tom and David would tase me when I didn't completely unfinish my plate.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | December 16, 2015 12:03 PM |
Melissa, we'll teach you how to puke like the pros!
by Anonymous | reply 25 | December 16, 2015 12:14 PM |
The first season was great--a couple of fat average people finding each other. Then it got stupid. The last two seasons were the Melissa McCarthy show to the detriment of the rest of the cast. I feel bad for Billy Gardell and Reno Wilson as they took this show because they wanted to work with each other again and ended up being second bananas to Melisa.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | December 16, 2015 1:29 PM |
Melissa needs time to do movies. She will get a vechile on tv whenever she wants to return.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | December 16, 2015 1:33 PM |
It's not funny. Never was. She is funny, but the show sucks.
Hey, 2 fat pieces of piggery! Hardee Har Har!
Some people are so goddamned fucking easily amused. That's why there is so much shit out there. Idiots believe everything they hear.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | December 16, 2015 2:00 PM |
I generally enjoy most of CBS's comedies (and most Chuck Lorre shows) but I could never get into M&M. Nor "Rules of Engagement" or "Two Broke Girls." "Life in Pieces" is pretty good (even if it's a blatant ripoff of "Modern Family"), and since it appears to be a hit, I guess CBS doesn't need M&M as schedule filler.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | December 16, 2015 5:16 PM |
Billy Gardell will be shot to oblivion. He's the big career fatality.
Nah, he'll be fine doing standup. He's got the pedigree of having a successful sitcom behind him. That is a guarantee for stand up success.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | December 16, 2015 5:24 PM |
Poor Swoosie Kurtz. Are there any shows that need an old mom character?
by Anonymous | reply 31 | December 16, 2015 5:26 PM |
R31 No.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | December 16, 2015 5:50 PM |
I'd like to see Billy and Reno do another show together. They had great chemistry and their scenes were always the best.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | December 16, 2015 5:59 PM |
ENTERTAINMENT LAWYER 12/10 **#1** This A list comic actress is being super secretive about her weight loss, but she has had liposuction several times. The thing is, she is going around telling women to embrace themselves as they are and doing the complete opposite. Melissa McCarthy
by Anonymous | reply 34 | December 16, 2015 6:02 PM |
Interesting that the Emmy stealing pig has had lipo. What a cunt, is she pals with that homewrecker Christina Applegate?
by Anonymous | reply 35 | December 16, 2015 6:29 PM |
It's not so mysterious-who wants to look at the two of them?
by Anonymous | reply 36 | December 16, 2015 6:30 PM |
Melissa isn't really all that fat anymore. I don't think it will be funny with one of them fat and one fairly normal weight. Also I think her movie success (for the life of me I can't imagine why or who would want to see those movies) went to her head. Why be a moderate TV star when you can be a movie star and for so much more money.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | December 16, 2015 6:54 PM |
I miss the days when actors would back and forth between TV and films. Not a lot of actors could pull it off but those that did were great fun.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | December 16, 2015 6:56 PM |
They had to cancel it. CBS sold the name to Bravo, which will be using it for a reality series about George Michael and his ecstasy addiction.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | December 16, 2015 6:57 PM |
That is a really stupid joke that barely makes sense, R39. Stop trying to get on W&W, you unfunny tool.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | December 16, 2015 7:03 PM |
I liked the supporting characters the best - her Mom, sister & step father were the funniest.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | December 16, 2015 7:11 PM |
after the 5th assault of a caterer on set..cbs had enough
by Anonymous | reply 42 | December 16, 2015 7:27 PM |
Melissa isn't really all that fat anymore. I don't think it will be funny with one of them fat and one fairly normal weight
See, I actually think they could mine McCarthy's weight loss for a season's worth of scripts. What's it like when one partner loses weight and another is still the size of a house? Will she still find me attractive? What if she starts getting attention from other men? How come she could do it and I couldn't.... and aren't they still trying to have a baby? What if I get pregnant and put all the weight back on? And so on... This could have actually energized the show.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | December 16, 2015 9:17 PM |
Poor dykey Swoosie Kurtz is out of a job once again. If only Sarah Paulson was hooking up with her instead of that vile Holland Taylor.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | December 16, 2015 9:27 PM |
Yeah, MM was just a slip of a thing in SPY.
Like gossamer.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | December 16, 2015 10:18 PM |
No, she's lost a lot of heft since Spy.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | December 16, 2015 10:20 PM |
I miss the days when actors would back and forth between TV and films. Not a lot of actors could pull it off but those that did were great fun.
Wait. What? Aren't we in those days again? Let's face it, shit like this dreadful show aside, overall, there's much better writing happening on tv - especially cable - than in film these days. I don't think a prestige cable drama or comedy is considered slumming it anymore.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | December 16, 2015 10:34 PM |
No. Melissa did not hog the show...all the actors had story lines so don't blame it on Melissa. She is a good comic actor, get over it.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | December 16, 2015 10:54 PM |
I'm not gay!!!!!!!!! I just never met the right man. Or any man for that matter.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | December 17, 2015 12:35 AM |
Swoosie had an abortion in the sixties so she must've met at least one r49.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | December 17, 2015 2:00 AM |
Deadline says that the series wasn't worth CBS renegotiating with Warner Bros after its six-year deal with them ended.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | December 17, 2015 2:06 AM |
The real star of ANY Melissa McCarthy movie is her stunt woman.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | December 17, 2015 2:16 AM |
[quote[Wait. What? Aren't we in those days again?
R47 I agree with you. It's pretty accepted for many people to hop between TV and movies these days. I think McCarthy's film career will slow down in the next couple of years. She will likely face competition from Amy Schumer for possible roles. I like McCarthy more than Schumer. But Schumer is a decade younger and that will come into play. I wouldn't be surprised if McCarthy is back on TV later on. I see her going maybe the cable or streaming route though. She can do a 10-13 episode season and take movie roles the rest of the year.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | December 17, 2015 2:08 PM |
Maybe Melissa asked for too much money, and CBS felt it was better to just cancel the whole show.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | December 17, 2015 2:23 PM |
I watched it for a while and laughed the way one does at a fairly mindless sitcom. But then all of a sudden one year Melissa's character quit her job because she didn't want to be a teacher and wasn't sure what she wanted to do but then it hit her, she always wanted to be a WRITER!
I gave up after that. What was coming next? She wins the lottery and she and her sister Jackie bump into the AbFab characters?
by Anonymous | reply 55 | December 17, 2015 2:48 PM |
I know what you're saying, R55, but all those gyrations still make far more sense than the fact that there's a horse on 2 Broke Girls.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | December 17, 2015 3:02 PM |
Who watches sitcoms these days? I don't know anyone who does except for a couple of my aunts.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | December 17, 2015 3:03 PM |
The bigger question is who watches three camera sitcoms shot on a sound-stage with a laugh track, which is what CBS and Chuck Lorre still put out. Now that most sitcoms have moved to the single camera form, it just makes those shows look by comparison antiquated, shoddy and cheap.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | December 17, 2015 3:32 PM |
I had no idea it was even still running. It looks awful.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | December 17, 2015 4:47 PM |
Maybe Melissa McCarthy snubbed Julie Chen at the commissary.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | December 17, 2015 5:30 PM |
Never heard of them.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | December 17, 2015 7:10 PM |
Melissa M.: I'm shocked, SHOCKED that "Mike And Molly" has suddenly been cancelled!
Assistant: Your movie script, madam...
Melissa M.: Thank you...
by Anonymous | reply 62 | December 17, 2015 7:43 PM |
We will never get cancelled
by Anonymous | reply 63 | December 17, 2015 8:00 PM |
When I saw the promos for this show I thought, "What a dopey show. You know it is going to be successful because all the fat fraus and their beaten down husbands will be watching it." I recently saw it on CBS's sister channel in reruns. the episode I saw was pretty damn funny, it was obviously an early episode as "Molly" was a teacher. I agree that the supporting cast were funnier than the main players. I loved Reno Wilson in this.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | December 17, 2015 8:00 PM |
I loved it when Mike called Molly fat and she told him he was a pale imitation of Kevin Nealon
by Anonymous | reply 65 | December 17, 2015 9:15 PM |
Not surprised. It was never a hit, it just did ok. Like someone else said, it's already in syndication. Although I read it was sold at a rather low rate per episode.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | December 17, 2015 10:00 PM |
The morbidly obese are so funny!!!
by Anonymous | reply 67 | December 17, 2015 11:34 PM |

Perhaps you've heard of us, the #1 comedy on television?
by Anonymous | reply 68 | December 17, 2015 11:37 PM |
And yet [italic]2 Broke Girls[/italic] got renewed?
by Anonymous | reply 69 | December 17, 2015 11:49 PM |
The sister is the funniest character, closely followed by Swoosie and the step dad. They should get their own spin off. I've always liked Swoosie in anything I've seen her in so I'd watch just for her. The stoner sister is great though, any time I've seen it she's stolen the show. One I saw, the sister is telling Molly she's reworking the book too much : "I come home from drinking, you're writing. I get up to smoke a bowl, you're writing. You've got a problem."

That's Katy Mixon, and yes, she's a riot.
She played April in EASTBOUND AND DOWN, and has dramatic chops too.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | December 18, 2015 12:07 AM |
Katy Mixon was Bobby Deen's beard for a while. She even appeared on Paula's show a couple of times.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | December 18, 2015 1:15 AM |
Is it because they lived in a world where they didn't know their show sucked? Or didn't they know having a show that is #33 in the ratings (their highest) is God awful?
That's like me going to work for a year, never getting paid, then being shocked I was fired a year ago.
by Anonymous | reply 73 | September 5, 2017 9:42 AM |
Katy Mixon was good in this but I can't stand her now on that American Housewife crap.

Billy Gardell was on "Young Sheldon" (another Lorre/CBS show) this week.
