Let's Chat About the Incandescent Cheryl Ladd, Homosexuals
Tiny, exquisitely proportioned all-American blonde from South Dakota. Now in her 5th decade of show biz of show biz and still working. Always overshadowed on CHARLIES ANGELS by Farrah, Kate, and Jaclyn, she was a trooper who remained with the show for 4 seasons and besties with David "Bosley" Doyle.
She was the voice of Melanie on JOSIE AND THE PUSSYCATS! A powerhouse talent who deserved a bigger career, no?

Typical 70's actress: blond, all-American looks but no personality or any talent beyond reading dialogue. Neither a good nor great actress. Forgettable and forgotten.

I always associate Charlie's Angels with her more than Farrah. There was a girl in my third grade class named Kris who looked a bit like Ladd and we all liked to point out the similarities. She still looks great. The Republican thing is disappointing but I'd be surprised if she weren't very gay-friendly.

She was the first star replacement in that Annie Get Your Gun revival that played Broadway in 2001. She was in it for four months and almost tanked the whole enterprise. The only thing that saved it was Reba coming in with a now legendary performance for the ages.

Cheryl was beautiful and put up with a great deal when she was on Charles Angels - Kate was a total bitch to her, but she was able to launch a music career, movies, and really has been able to keep working. She has remained good friends with Jaclyn Smith. Everything kind of backfired for Kate Jackson - The only 2 angels that have really kept working is Ladd and Smith. She has been married to Brenda Russells ex-husband for a number of years.

Cheryl pulled a train in 1978, long after she had the job. She was entirely too short for anything standing up, but on her back and knees she did good work and looked good working. My father's team loved her, she always arrived ready. To reveal more would be unfair to her now.

I saw an old favorite B film last night on Max called Millennium in which Cheryl plays a time traveling flight attendant who saves doomed airplane crash victims before they die. Kris Kristofferson is the NTSB investigator who falls for her and changes her life in a not to be missed manner. It's one of those movies which I like despite the cheesy special FX and mediocre acting. Cheryl looks gorgeous....I think much more so than she did in Charlie's Angels.

Thank you , R40 She is quite the triple threat and it nice that you are bringing it to peoples attention. TV, Film, Stage, Recording artist - not many stars can say that today. Cheryl looks amazing and is iconic as Kris Munroe. 30 years late, and we aren't talking about Lydia Cornell, Heather Thomas, or Jenilee Harrison. Cheryl replaced Farrah and the rating soared! If it weren't for her, Charles Angels cold have been a 1 season wonder - God help Aarron Spelling if he had chosen Shelly Hack when Farrah left - Cheryl was the plus that kept the show on the air!

Cheryl's taking over for Farrah, who was very popular, and it went over seamlessly. Definitely one of the most successful replacements in history of television.
Cheryl was never a master thespian, but she was the best actress on the show besides Kate Jackson (who was really the glue that held the show together). Farrah wasn't good until long after CA, when she surprised many with her performances in "The Burning Bed" and in "Small Sacrifices."
I don't think she is ultra conservative nut like many in the Republican Party of today.

I think even the best actor can only do so much (or comes off as bad) with cheesy, terrible dialogue, R48. Look at the Star Wars films for proof. Give an actor a meaty role with some great writing and then you'll be surprised at what they can do. It all starts with the material.
I thought Cheryl was very good in the Drew Barrymore movie, Poison Ivy.

If you'll notice her debut episode of CA had her all in cutaways so they could replace her with Farrah if she came back. The producers were pretty desperate to get Kim Basinger who was in "Angels in Chains" but she turned them down.

I'm pretty surprised she is going to be in some somewhat prestigious productions...American Crime Story and Ray Donovan. She looks good--her plastic surgery has settled.
I've said this before on DL, but years ago I briefly dated a guy who had worked in Hollywood--can't remember doing what--and he said Cheryl was a lesbian and her long time girlfriend was an actress, but he couldn't remember her name. It seemed like such a random thing to know that I figured it was true...but this guy was also nuts, so who knows? She's been married to her husband for 35 years so I kind of doubt the lesbian thing.

R67, Charlie's Angels' numbers went up in the second season because they moved its timeslot from 10 PM to 9 PM, and more people are watching TV at 9 PM.
Designing Women's highest rated season was the one with Julia Duffy, but we all know that season was a disaster and, actually, the downfall of the show. Ratings only tell part of the story. (Though in this instance, the problem was not actually Duffy, but how she was written.)

Cheryl's career wasn't due to marrying David Ladd - If it was she wouldn't have lost the role in Spelling's "Family" and done "B" movies like Satan's School for Girls. Spelling saw talent and went after her for Farrah's replacement. He had to negotiate her out of a contract for the NEW "Laugh In" from George Schlatter. Ladd was already booked right before she was offered the role of Kris Munroe. She was able to really market herself the same way Farrah did - Posters, "Cheryl Ladd" Mego doll, Top 40 single, product endorsements, ya gotta give her some credit!
Kim Basinger didn't turn Spelling down Charles Angels - They did not want her after her audition. You think Basinger would turn down "Charlie Angels" to work on the short lived series "Dog & Cat?"
The variety Specials, the Records, and the MOW were all contract stipulations that Ladd asked for and were common at the time. Actresses didn't want to be typed cast and would work on other projects when they were on hiatus. Look, she's still working and filming American Crime Story. Out of ALL the Angels, she is the only one who is consistently working after all these years.

Evidently, some intern was smoking bath salts and decided Cheryl looked most like Mrs Bob Shapiro.
He was given a rental car and a crisp C-note to hunt down Mz Ladd's agent and wake him up from his diabetic coma so he could in turn coax the fallen angel and one time top 40 (#39 peak) recording artist out of the bottom of the bottle of Popov she has been living in since 1987.
If successful, his daring mission just might unearth the missing piece to make Travolta shine like it was 1978 all over again...

What's with the Cheryl hate? Despite her Republican leanings, she's always been sweet to everyone she's worked with. She was popular among the CA crew because she knew each one by name, asked about their families and gave them gifts for the holidays. Kate, on the other hand, was too much of a diva to bother, and yet it irked her that the new girl got a lot of their attention.
