Nathaniel Marston is DEAD to me

He was 40. Very sad. I wonder if Viki Sleestak will attend his funeral.

I'm amazed no one titled the thread "The Voice of the Night is dead". VOTN loved him.

by Anonymousreply 1November 12, 2015 2:47 AM

I remember him as Eddie Silva on ATWT. I admit I found the character annoying though he was indeed a hottie. Very tragic.

by Anonymousreply 2November 12, 2015 2:48 AM

I miss VOTN.

by Anonymousreply 3November 12, 2015 2:51 AM

I liked Eddie Silva too. I loved it when Margo started lusting after him. It was such a daring story.

by Anonymousreply 6November 12, 2015 3:24 AM

Margo will attend.

by Anonymousreply 7November 12, 2015 3:31 AM

He was so gorgeous, but a troubled one.

by Anonymousreply 8November 12, 2015 3:33 AM

He was arrested a bunch of times in Reno over the last couple years per the mugshot sites. His life must have hit rock bottom.

by Anonymousreply 9November 12, 2015 3:34 AM

He is now home in the loving arms of the Lord.

by Anonymousreply 10November 12, 2015 3:35 AM

Which Lord, R10? Meredith? Victor? Be specific, please.

by Anonymousreply 11November 12, 2015 3:41 AM

I guess the more recent arrests never made the soap sites. Didn't know he'd been in more trouble.

It looked like his mother was transparently sockpuppeting and attacking people in the comments at We Love Soaps last week for mentioning that he'd been troubled.

by Anonymousreply 18November 12, 2015 4:30 AM

Since his accident his fans were on a posting frenzy on his Facebook page. There was so much religious zealotry that it seemed creepy.

by Anonymousreply 19November 12, 2015 4:40 AM

Apparently, he had a wife and an adopted child. There was no mention of them and I don't think he and his wife were divorced. When he moved to Nevada he left them on the east coast. I'm sure there is a sad and convoluted story there.

by Anonymousreply 20November 12, 2015 4:42 AM

He's not going to be able to take it with him.

by Anonymousreply 24November 12, 2015 4:49 AM

It's been years since I've seen him on TV, but he looks very different in the picture at the link. Handsome, but different (looks slimmer ?)

The picture looks like Richard (???) Cole .......... the Guiding Light guy who played one of the princes involved with Reva.

by Anonymousreply 25November 12, 2015 4:50 AM

I wondered about that, R20. When his mother wrote about his death and mentioned the people who were present, his wife and son weren't among them. She would have had time to get there, so either she and Marston were estranged or there were bad feeling with the family.

His mother has controlled the narrative from the first announcement of his accident through his death, including his Go Fund Me page, so she may have decided she didn't want the wife to be there.

by Anonymousreply 26November 12, 2015 5:10 AM

It's better this way. Had he lived, he would have a been a paraplegic and unable to speak. What kind of life is that? I wouldn't have wanted to live. And his mother said the same thing about her son.

by Anonymousreply 27November 12, 2015 6:03 AM

R9, I can't find any mugshots. What sites were you searching?

by Anonymousreply 28November 12, 2015 8:11 AM

Is there an ATWT curse? One of the Snyder boys OD'd, Hal the Police Chief offed himself and now this.

by Anonymousreply 29November 12, 2015 9:00 AM

Sad he's dead, but the poor guy is better off. If he would've lived he would've been paralyzed from the neck down and unable to speak. That's no way to live.

He was good looking, a good enough actor, and supposedly kind to fans, but I didn't even notice right away when they replaced him with another actor (Chris something or another) on OLTL that looked very similar to him.

by Anonymousreply 34November 12, 2015 11:08 AM

Isn't his mother a bit long in the tooth to be an aspiring actress? She has to be in her late 50s at least.

I seen on the gofundme that Renee Goldsberry donated $200. They've made over 10 grand so that should cover the funeral and a little of the hospital bills. I hope he still had his SAG Health Insurance, but it looks like he hadn't worked since 2011 so I'm not sure he would still be eligible for it.

I just looked at the moms facebook and it says she graduated High School in 1977, which would make her about 56 years old now. If that is correct, she must have had Nathaniel at 15 or 16 years old.

by Anonymousreply 38November 12, 2015 11:29 AM

Very sad.

Truly, don't have snark for this one.

by Anonymousreply 39November 12, 2015 11:31 AM

The GoFundMe page indicated (all along) that the funds were both for him and the mother. She apparently plans three memorial services and will use the extra funds for her expenses during this time.

None of that bothered me all that much until this thread revealed the (ex-) wife and son. Now, the mother seems even shadier.

I was one of a group of people who used to go to the dog park in Thompkins Square park in the late 90s. This fucking douchebag used to come in with his Rottweiler, which would promptly start attacking other dogs. When this little guy whose pug was attacked said something, Nathaniel and his cunt gf beat the shit out of him. Marston was actually screaming at his girlfriend "kick him!! kick him like I showed you at kicking boxing class!!"

I had a friend who wrote for Page 6 at the time, so we got him involved. The rest is history (see link).

The guy was an angry, violent, homophobic piece of shit. Good riddance.

R46

Whoa! I never knew about a brawl between him and Tom Eplin.

That being said, I know NM was very troubled in the past.

IIRC he had a substance abuse problem and was BiPolar.

I think he got himself together after several years.

This really is a tragedy.

by Anonymousreply 48November 12, 2015 3:26 PM

[quote]Marston also got into a brawl this year with “Another World” star Tom Eplin at a party, when Marston was making fun of some men who had shown up wearing Scottish kilts.

[quote] Marston was making fun of some men who had shown up wearing Scottish kilts.

He must not have been dongful.

by Anonymousreply 50November 12, 2015 3:58 PM

How was he homophobic? Because he made fun of men in kilts?

He clearly had a lot of issues, but was still pretty well liked by many of his past cast members despite them.

by Anonymousreply 51November 12, 2015 5:15 PM

I met him once at a fan event. He was very nice and gave a lot of attention to the ladies who loved talking to him. He would have stayed longer, but his bitch of a girlfriend screeched at him that they had to leave. One of my friends sent him something and he wrote back very nicely apologizing for the delay and admitting he had problems writing back because he was dyslexic.

by Anonymousreply 52November 12, 2015 10:30 PM

Met him briefly once. Very nice and friendly.

But from everything I've ever read about him, he was a very troubled soul. Anger issues, self-control issues, substance abuse. Possibly bi-polar.

Very sorry he has died. Maybe his soul is in peace now.

La Sleestak:

But he fought back and was winning – getting on as best as he could. I always liked him and respected him for his determination and his talent. by Anonymousreply 55November 13, 2015 4:19 AM

Slezak is getting quite a few attacks for the wording of her statement. I saw nothing wrong with what she wrote.

I haven't seen anything from Robin Strasser yet. She was regarded as a friend of Nathaniel during his time on OLTL and even after he was fired from the show.

by Anonymousreply 56November 13, 2015 5:12 AM

I would like to read a statement from Fiona Hutchison next.

by Anonymousreply 57November 13, 2015 8:43 AM

Those commentators are so fucking annoying; why must we be so pious about death? And it's not as if she went into any gory intrusive personal details about his 'demons'.

people should really drop this fake piety about the recently deceased; it's just another form of the PC over sensitive 'oh I'm offended' crap.

Why can't people just accept that death is the ONLY certainty in life, and it doesn't sanctify anyone.

by Anonymousreply 58November 13, 2015 8:48 AM

Good grief, I thought Sleestak's comment was great. We all have demons, there's no reason to hide them.

by Anonymousreply 60November 13, 2015 10:05 AM

What did Jane Alice Brandon have to say?

by Anonymousreply 61November 13, 2015 10:36 AM

I doubt Fiona Hutchinson will comment, except maybe in the soap rags as she gave up her social media posting 3 years ago. She adored NM though and went way out of her way to help him when he was at a bad place in his life. He would've been fired from OLTL long before he was if not for her. She even would go to his apartment and make sure he was awake and made it on set on time.

by Anonymousreply 62November 13, 2015 11:32 AM

He's moved on to a better place... Eterna.

by Anonymousreply 63November 13, 2015 12:57 PM

I didn't see anything wrong with Slezak's statement either. Nathaniel Marston's personal struggles with drugs and alcohol were so well known that even his own mother's initial statement on the accident made it a point to say that drugs and alcohol were not involved in this instance. Slezak commended NM for fighting his demons and winning. What's wrong with that?

by Anonymousreply 64November 13, 2015 4:47 PM

Forbes March replied November 13th, 2015 at 6:44 am

You obviously did not know Nathaniel as we did.

It is normal, I believe, to pay tribute to the accomplishments of a person in their passing. Those who knew Nathaniel, even in passing, know that Nathaniel faced enormous “demons” and his fight was amongst his greater accomplishments. I do not believe he would have begrudged Erica’s words one bit.

Nathaniel was, “a complicated, but really lovely man, and very talented actor, who lived with a lot of demons in his life. But he fought back and was winning” and that he lost in this manner is tragic.

His demons are not uncommon in the arts and if you choose to see him through his press agents projection and not through the clarity of reality, then THAT would be yet another tragedy.

by Anonymousreply 65November 13, 2015 4:52 PM

[quote]Slezak is getting quite a few attacks for the wording of her statement.

Most of those attacks are from what appear to be a grieving family member who has trolled every comments section of every article on every soap site which mentions his past troubles. It may be Mamma Marston.

Forbes March OTOH (if that is him) is known for making an ass of himself.

by Anonymousreply 66November 13, 2015 6:09 PM

by Anonymousreply 67November 13, 2015 7:47 PM

Are we sure he had a son ?

I googled his Obit yesterday and there was no mention.

by Anonymousreply 68November 13, 2015 7:54 PM

r68 If I'm not mistaken the "son" was actually a step son, his wife's child from a prior relationship. I also got the impression that the marriage was mostly a green card marriage in order to get medical treatment for the step son. I'm guessing the wife probably went back to Argentina when the work and the money ran dry.

by Anonymousreply 69November 13, 2015 10:23 PM

I'm not a fan of Sleestack's, but she said nothing wrong and nothing what wasn't known already by most fans.

R69 I think you're correct about the kid being his step son. I remember seeing pics of them in one of the soap mags around the time of the marriage and the kid was of school age at that time.

Fiona Hutchison was amazing as Gabrielle. She really could call upon any emotion and just go all out. Her original run as Gabby sent her into therapy because it was like playing Scarlett O'Hara five days a week all year round, if you go at that kind of emotional intensity, it's frightening. It was a big deal when she came back to OLTL, and I actually liked the pairing with Bo. I believe that jackass Michael Malone killed off Gabrielle because she was not one of his original creations, having come from the more extravagant Paul Rauch era.

[quote]Can we steer this thread back to Nathaniel, please?

Yes but I don't think you'll like what I have to say.

I think acting was a very bad place for Nathaniel Marston. His emotions were way too raw and close to the surface for him to easily turn them on and off and separate himself from the role he was playing.

It made for good performances at times but I think it also took a great toll on him personally. I remember scenes shortly before he was fired for the second time where his character was losing his adopted son and was taking his anger out on a gym punching bag. Very disturbing and realistic scenes that then spilled over into real life when NM punched out 3 strangers on a NYC street without any provocation.

I don't get why some people on the Michael Fairman site are having fits because Erika Slezak dared to speak the truth about NM. He was a troubled guy fighting a lot of demons. But he obviously had a good side as well and many co-stars seem to have bent over backwards trying to help him out of the darkness.

It's a shame his life ended far too soon and under such sad circumstances but let's not pretend he was some sort of misunderstood saint who just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. He apparently fell asleep at the wheel and rolled his car. Sad but not especially surprising.

RIP Nathaniel Marston.

by Anonymousreply 95November 17, 2015 4:47 PM

He got arrested for beating someone up with a trash can at the Hess on 10th Ave and 45th once. I once saw him trying to buy a dozen eggs at the grocery store with no cash and 3 bad credit cards. His much older gf was with him, they started fighting and left without the eggs. Surprised that they are saying he was clean and sober when he got in that car accident.

by Anonymousreply 96November 17, 2015 5:35 PM

Let's just say it: Those comments on Fairman's site were from his family or his mother who has been hitting all the sites since the accident and dinging everyone who dares to mention his issues, not just Sleestak. Almost every comment is uniform and the same. Marston's mother was not thinking clearly.

[quote] believe that jackass Michael Malone killed off Gabrielle because she was not one of his original creations, having come from the more extravagant Paul Rauch era.

Malone wanted to use her and Max together and reunite Bo and Nora. Brian Frons wanted no part of it or the Holdens.

by Anonymousreply 97November 17, 2015 5:59 PM

R96, his mother is the one who said he wasn't on alcohol or drugs at the time of his accident. All information about his accident, his condition afterward and his death came from his mother, and that was true from the beginning. We have no way of knowing what's true or false.

What we do know is that he was traveling alone at a high rate of speed late at night through tribal lands (which means the road was at least somewhat deserted) and for whatever reason he flipped the vehicle end for end several times. Had he survived, he likely would have been a quadraplegic and remained on some form of life support. After emergency surgery, he was unable to move, breathe on his own or speak.

The day after the accident, I went online and tried to find information that didn't come from the mother, but I couldn't find anything. She took over and controlled every word that was written.

Now she's patrolling soap sites to keep people from saying anything that doesn't meet with her approval. Any mention of his numerous arrests or his troubled past has been censored and the writers are excoriated by her. My guess is she knows she exacerbated his problems and now she's going to make sure no one talks about who he really was.

She's pushing on the gofundme sites for money to take his remains on a triumphal tour and to host memorial services in three separate locations. Sounds like self-aggrandizement and fame whoreism on her part. This is her last chance for glory and she wouldn't miss it for the world.

The sad thing is Marston was a real person and he deserves to be known for who he was, not who his mother wants to pretend he was. Erika Slezak was right; he had demons but he battled them.

by Anonymousreply 98November 17, 2015 6:24 PM

R89, La Sleestak is ALWAYS right.

by Anonymousreply 99November 17, 2015 7:19 PM

It was not Malone's decision to get rid of the Holdens. It was Frons at that time. In fact, Malone was very vocal that he wanted FH to stay back in 1991 when ABC lowballed her, so he was ready to write for them in 2003.

R102 Gabrielle was so beautiful. She cheated on her husband with that Italian priest. It is the stereotypical case of a British woman wanting the hot Italian guy. Well she ended up with that hot Italian guy. I wonder if she pumped John Loprieno(another hot Italian guy) as well. He was so hot she must have been tempted.

by Anonymousreply 105November 18, 2015 12:15 PM

r105, loved this comment on that video of her final scene:

[quote]Gabrielle represented an era of grand emotions in soaps, which is long gone. She was so larger than life, mirroring a classical tragic heroine and Fiona Hutchison's performances in that sense put the OPERA in soap. Her instincts were pure theatre. You simply could not create these type of layered emotions in today's soap opera medium, because everything is done on the cheap and no care is taken to create a character from within. Fiona Hutchison is one of those rare performers who understood the true potential of the soap opera or continuing drama medium as capable of being the most powerful artform of all, provided the actor was supported by the production model (both in the writing and in the production design and costuming). Fiona created a character in Gabrielle that is treasured by classic OLTL fans: her dark romance with Max and her light rapport with Tina gave her both tragedy and comedy galore, making Gabrielle an integral part of what is arguably OLTL's most successful and life affirming period.

I wonder if Kathy is still as big as she always was?

by Anonymousreply 115December 12, 2015 11:39 AM

r115, shut up you cunt. By the way, they got hold of Fiona Hutchison, finally:

[quote]Fiona Hutchison (Gabrielle, OLTL): "Nathaniel was such tremendous fun to work with. There were times I didn't think we'd make it to the set by countdown, because he was always up to all kinds of shenanigans and practical jokes. Many of us would miss our entrances on set because we were doubled over in laughter. My make up had to redone many times because I was crying from laughing so much. That's how I remember Nathaniel. I'm sure he's shaking it up in heaven right now."

Kathy Brier is still "plump". She should lay off the all you can eat lunch specials at Olive Garden.

Aw, Renee. Sad to hear. Still miss OLTL.

by Anonymousreply 121December 22, 2015 3:25 AM

So with Prospect Park in bankruptcy and the suit still going on against ABC it looks like nobody owns the characters now and all of Llanview is in purgatory.

by Anonymousreply 122December 22, 2015 4:17 AM

Miss Renee Divine has her own thread here at DL, as well she should.

Have Sleestak or Strasser worked AT ALL since the Prospect Park fiasco? Why haven't they shown up on GH, like just about everybody else from Llanview?

In an ironic twist, John Paul Saponksky is now on DOOL; his ex, Farah Fath, came from DOOL to Llanview.

by Anonymousreply 123December 22, 2015 5:31 AM

Is Seponski still playing house with Tuc?

[quote]Have Sleestak or Strasser worked AT ALL since the Prospect Park fiasco? Why haven't they shown up on GH, like just about everybody else from Llanview?

I don't think Frank Valentini has much use for Strasser and Slezak is probably smart enough to stay away from the GH train wreck.

by Anonymousreply 127December 22, 2015 12:54 PM

I would love to hear what Sleestak really thinks of Frank and Ron. We know how Strasser feels about Carlivati.

by Anonymousreply 128December 22, 2015 1:09 PM

Has Victoria Sleestack released a statement yet about Pat Elliott's passing? I need to hear what she thinks.

by Anonymousreply 129December 22, 2015 1:52 PM

Who cares what that bitter old shrew Strasser thinks. She was a bitch on wheels on the set. The crew members applauded the times that she left the show and dreaded when she returned. A bitter, nasty old bitch.

by Anonymousreply 130December 22, 2015 2:03 PM

RIP Pat Elliott. She was a lovely lady and very talented.

I think Strasser is probably over acting at this point. She gave primetime a shot already when she left OLTL in 1987 and she actually did pretty good considering she was in her 40s at the time. She did a few TV movies, a bunch of TV guest spots, plus recurring roles on Knots Landing and Coach. She probably knows there is very little out there for women her age and it's not worth the effort.

Sleestack was complaining about not being able to find acting work in an interview she did last year. I can't believe she's surprised by this. She's almost 70, not conventionally attractive, and only has a few non-soap credits. Of course the the small about ofroles she's up for are going to the ladies with better resumes.

by Anonymousreply 131December 22, 2015 4:17 PM

I hear that Sleestack is insanely jealous of Susan Lucci and the fact that Lucci keeps getting work in primetime and even films (Joy) while Sleestack sits at home polishing her emmys.

by Anonymousreply 132December 22, 2015 4:24 PM

Yeah, Lucci is doing pretty good for herself. She definitely made the right decision in not doing the AMC reboot (although the actual show was well done) and pursuing other things.

by Anonymousreply 133December 22, 2015 4:36 PM

Isn't she basically an extra on a poorly-rated basic cable show?

by Anonymousreply 134December 22, 2015 7:11 PM

I'll never forgot Strasser playing the role of an ugly actress on an episode of GROSSE POINT. Literally, the episode was about how unattractive she was.

by Anonymousreply 135December 22, 2015 7:38 PM

When it comes to an old school soapy dramatic scene, Sleestack would blow Lucci out of the water, but Lucci's comedic skills are probably a little more transferable to other projects. Here comedic timing is not bad, and she has the right balance of tongue in cheek and earnestness when she does camp which is easier said than done. A lot of people overplay it and are practically winking at the camera. She also has the advantage of having the best name recognition to non-soap fans.

Although -- it could be very well that Sleestack just wants to retire at this point and is not really looking for work.

by Anonymousreply 136December 22, 2015 7:43 PM

Sleestack has made it known that she wants to work and has gone on auditions but no one will hire her. A little birdie told me that she was LIVID that she didn't get the role that Meredith Baxter played on Y&R last year. A short term role. And she was beyond pissed that Frank Valentini didn't call her to do the short term role that Dee Wallace got on GH this year. Queen Bee Sleestack isn't looking for a long term role on a soap since they are all done in CA and she splits her time between CT and Vermont. But, she desperately wants a short term role.

by Anonymousreply 137December 22, 2015 8:04 PM

I can't see Sleestack getting work due to her affected speaking style. She's too mannered for just about everything on TV. If she really tried, she might get some theatre work. But she probably thinks she's above that now.

Has anyone ever asked Robin if she wants to continue acting on twitter or in any interviews she's done? Unlike Sleestack, she has a decent resume out of daytime and could get a role here and there.

by Anonymousreply 138December 22, 2015 9:58 PM

I mainly am familiar with OLTL from the late 80s to into the 90's. I saw an older clip with Erika and Judith Light - Sleestack's style much more natural than later on - at least in the clip I saw. She could do some good work but she really played up the lady of the manor bit later.

by Anonymousreply 139December 22, 2015 10:08 PM

Slezak didn't get the Dee Wallace role because they specifically asked for a "name". She didn't get the Meredith Baxter role on YR because YR wanted a "name". Let's be real for a moment. Slezak is a fine enough soap actress. But the truth is her number of Emmy awards were awarded for a gimmick. She a good soap actress, but she is not even in the top ten of the best soap actresses of all time. Go watch some of those old OLTL kinescopes at the Paley Center and see Gillian Spencer play the role and it will make you think twice about the so-called greatness of Slezak.

by Anonymousreply 140December 22, 2015 10:20 PM

I never seen any of Spencer as Viki, but did see her Daisy on AMC. She was very good there. She's certainly a more "natural" actress that Sleestack.

by Anonymousreply 141December 22, 2015 10:25 PM

I've looked for scenes from early OLTL with Gillian Spencer on YouTube but haven't found any, despite there being other scenes up from the late '60s -- what was her Viki like, R140?

by Anonymousreply 142December 22, 2015 10:35 PM

Slezak would be good as a Laura or Marie Horton recast on Days.

by Anonymousreply 143December 22, 2015 10:38 PM

There is a great scene that Gillian Spencer's VIki gives that is both horrifying and heartbreaking that explains everything you ever wanted to know about the relationship between Victor Lord and Viki. It's like a 6 minute scene and the last half is in a tight closeup on Spencer. She's very still and stares straight ahead. The entire scene is about not being a son and having to make compromises to be like a son and to make her father proud. It's one of the best scenes ever and I'm surprised that it hasn't been bootlegged and passed around on the trading circuit. The entire scene sums up who Viki is as a character and how she relates to the world. Again, nothing against Slezak, but affected, holier than thou, and unapproachable wasn't Spencer's Viki. She was a cold fish, but you got why she was a cold fish.

by Anonymousreply 144December 22, 2015 10:45 PM

[quote]The entire scene is about not being a son and having to make compromises to be like a son and to make her father proud.

They spent a lot of time in those early years to set up why the characters were the way they were and how their parental relationships molded them. I did not watch when he was alive, so I did not realize that was their initial conflict. It is almost too bad they rewrote their history so they could do the lurid molestation angle. It makes more sense for causing DID, but I am always a little wary when they go back and rewrite character motivations etc.

They did the same thing with Erica Kane, they spent two decades showing her dealing with abandonment issues and how she hero-worshiped and idolized her father and then they added to the history that he left her with a pedophile. You might have been able to argue that when it seemed more like neglect in leaving her alone that she would blame herself and deflect blame and still worship her father. Once it was revealed years later Erica knew her father made a deal with the child rapist actor and purposely left him alone with her so that he could have access to her and raper her if he would be in his movie, the revised history did not blend with what we saw in Erica's psyche and her relationship with her father for decades.

by Anonymousreply 145December 22, 2015 11:16 PM

Try telling Victoria Sleestack that she isn't one of the top 10 actresses ever in daytime. She always thought that she is the BEST. The cast and crew always knew that they should hide from here if Queen Sleestack was in the building on the days that the daytime emmy nominations were announced and she wasn't among the nominees. She would go on a tear. There was a period from 1996 to 2005 where she was not nominated during all those years and she was a royal bitch when she found out she wasn't nominated. She totally, absolutely believes that she is the best actress, ever.

by Anonymousreply 146December 23, 2015 12:49 AM

Well, she's not.

by Anonymousreply 149December 23, 2015 3:55 AM

You may say Strasser is crazy, she knew what shitty material Ron was throwing out there. She always committed 110% to everything, what he did to Dorian in the later years was criminal.

by Anonymousreply 150December 23, 2015 3:58 AM

Strasser does give it her all. I loved her as Hecuba on Passions. You could tell that she was having a blast.

by Anonymousreply 151December 23, 2015 4:21 AM

Hecuba, get me a Martimmy.

by Anonymousreply 152December 23, 2015 4:55 AM

Strasser still wants to, and is looking for work. Her twitter feed is full of "now if I could only get a job", and she's even moved to LA from NY to be closer to what's left of the soap business.

I bet both she and Sleestak are plenty jealous of their old Llanview co-star Judith Light, with two recent Tony wins back to back (and another nomination this year coming for sure) and lots of TV work (lately on the "Dallas" reboot) and now a major role on "Transparent", the talk of the industry.

by Anonymousreply 153December 23, 2015 6:31 AM

Well, at least Kathy Brier has some upcoming work to help her get over her grief. Too bad Sleestack can't say the same...

by Anonymousreply 154December 23, 2015 6:45 AM

Sleestack just released her annual letter on her website. It sound like she has given up on ever being relevant and has conceded that she'll never get work again. I am sure that she is extremely jealous of the beloved Judith Light. Goodbye, Victoria. La Lucci and Light played their cards right.

by Anonymousreply 155December 23, 2015 11:32 AM

I read Patricia Elliott' obit. No mention of a husband or kids. Was she a big lez? Not that there's anything wrong with that.

by Anonymousreply 156December 23, 2015 11:38 AM

I hope Sleestak and Strasser are still friends.

I would love a real tell-all on BTS at OLTL.

by Anonymousreply 157December 23, 2015 12:12 PM

Apparently Pat Elliott was only married once, from 1960 to 1962. I'd say that chances are that she found that she didn't like dick, but rather snatch.

by Anonymousreply 158December 23, 2015 7:37 PM

Light has been good at embracing her daytime history, but outside of older soap fans, do most people probably don't think of her as a soap star. She left the industry 30 years ago and has worked steadily since. I think when she is cast now, the casting director is not going to say here is soap actress Judith Light.

by Anonymousreply 159December 23, 2015 8:19 PM

I'm going to start a GFM campaign to buy the OLTL characters from Prospect. Then I'll make a porn version of OLTL starting Snoop Dogg.

by Anonymousreply 160December 23, 2015 8:20 PM

Light got out of the soaps before she was too identified with them. She was also fairly young (in her mid 30s), blond and thin. She is still the latter two, that along with her being talented and well-liked is why she still gets work.

by Anonymousreply 161December 24, 2015 2:06 AM

According to this video just posted this week at Broadway.com, even to this day according to the lady herself the role most people stop and talk to Judith Light about is:

Karen Wolek from ONE LIFE TO LIVE.

So much for her not being identified with her soap character.

There was one interview she did recently where she was so complementary toward Slezak, Michael Storm, and Brynn Thayer (apparently they are good friends to this day). Nice to see.

by Anonymousreply 163December 24, 2015 12:23 PM

It's complicated to know the right time to get out of soaps. Some actors just become comfortable with the steady paycheck and the ability to have a family and be home for dinner and school plays, etc. I've heard some people say that you shouldn't stay longer than 3 or 4 years, because you get into the habit of "soap acting". And that's not a diss on soap acting. Soap acting is not easy, but it is different. And it's also assembly line acting, you don't get the time to rehearse and perfect your performance like in other areas. People want to see big, exaggerated emotions. Subtle, nuanced performances are rare and aren't lauded like the expected showy performances.

The actors who were big in soaps, who were also big in primetime and film is still a small club. Tony Geary is still bitter to this day that he couldn't get past General Hospital. Genie Francis had some primetime success, but it was playing different variations on Laura, just in primetime -- but she too eventually came back to soaps. Kim Zimmer couldn't make it out of soaps either. Whatever success that Susan Lucci has had is because she lost the Emmy so many times. She built a career on losing the Emmy. That was her brand and every part is basically a variation on Erica Kane. She's not a good actress, but the cache of losing that Emmy made her a household name.

I can't tell you what Meg Ryan, Judith Light, and Robin Wright had that the other didn't. But I did see it in Anne Heche. She's had some success, she should be a much bigger star than she is, but the Celestia thing and Ellen has sort of limited her career in ways. You could see it when she was on Another World that this girl was just too good to just end her career as a soap actress.

It wasn't just Marston's mother saying he was drug free at the time of the accident.

I read a newspaper report where the Sheriff stated there was no alcohol or drugs in his system.

While I agree with most of this, kudos to her and/or her management for using this to her advantage. She is often not a great actress, but there are some things she is good at, and she has maximized utilizing those strengths post-AMC. Most of her TV movies were a variation of Erica (guilty pleasure - I kind of like her Scrooge movie), I do think her Devious Maids character, while having a lot of similarities to Erica,, feels like a different character. She does do something different with the portrayal than having her simply be a nicer version of Erica.

Off topic, but I don't think this is worth a separate thread - just a quick rant. I have Y&R in the background. How many times have they done Victor is a Grinch/Scrooge at Christmas who has business over family and then by the end of the episode sees the light and joins his family in a very shallow change of heart.? It seems like they do not even bother to even try to write fall-out for him anymore when he does horrible things. The family just kind of shakes their head and dismisses his actions. Plus the actor really seems to be sleepwalking through the role now. I like the use of vets, but he is one character that has been a lead character well past his expiration date.

by Anonymousreply 167December 24, 2015 4:53 PM

Lucci and her husband are sharp business wise. Them working the series of TV movies into her contract with ABC starring Lucci was pretty shrewd. It got her exposure beyond All My Children and proved her name was a draw. She also controls her image very tightly. You won't see her sticking her foot in her mouth or offending fans like Nancy Lee Grahn and Dee Dee Halls.

by Anonymousreply 168December 24, 2015 5:20 PM

Interesting, R170. I combed the Internet for days after his accident and never found a newspaper or other independent account that said no drugs or alcohol. I found a photo of the vehicle and that's how I knew he flipped it end for end, but there was no further information.

I'd kill to know the names of the plastic surgeons who did Lucci and Fonda's work.

They look amazing.

Lucci really made a shit load of money.

Lucci and Geary were the highest paid actors in daytime.

Lucci also makes money from a skin care line she sells thru QVC or HSN.

Her home in Greenwich is palatial.

She doesn't need to work.

I love her on Devious Maids. Such a hoot.

She's also recently signed on to do something on PBS in 2016.

She announced that this week but said the details are under wraps for now.

by Anonymousreply 173December 24, 2015 10:24 PM

R171 Her strange reaction to wear a red ribbon to show support for AIDS research offended some fans. And the big drama and lawsuit over her fan club and website.

by Anonymousreply 174December 24, 2015 10:37 PM

R174

I know about the ribbon debacle.

What's the dish on her fan club and website?

by Anonymousreply 175December 24, 2015 10:44 PM

R175 Here is a pretty good summary. The funniest part was the fun club runner/assistant allegedly was asked to photoshop Hall and her family's Christmas Card to make look better and her youngest kid less fat. I remember a lot of the fan club members supported the runner of the fan club over Hall. And other more casual fans of hers and of Days thought she came off as very petty taking it to court instead of trying to settle it out of court.

Luckily for Hall this happened when she was off of Days, so it didn't draw as much as attention if she were on it at the time. Most fans except for her hardcore ones have forgotten it. The story disappeared off the NY Post's website pretty fast too, which led some to believe she might have threatened to sue them for posting what her assistant said.

by Anonymousreply 176December 24, 2015 11:37 PM

I'm sure Dee Dee was more upset being called a "fading soap-star" by the NY Post than being portrayed as a cheapskate or the photo shopping allegation.

by Anonymousreply 177December 25, 2015 12:09 AM

And Lucci has a small but pivotal role in JOY, the new David O. Russell/Jennifer Lawrence film that opens on Christmas Day. It was working with her that prompted Russell recently to praise "soap actors":

R176

How did the lawsuit shake out?

Did Dee have to cough up the $$$

by Anonymousreply 182December 25, 2015 8:56 AM

As much as I love Judith Light, I thought it was cunty of her to not make a return to OLTL before it went off the (network) air. Julianne Moore--who probably had five Oscar nominations at that point--wasn't too good to not return to ATWT for a day, and she looked like she was having a blast doing it.

Freakin' common hooker.

by Anonymousreply 183December 25, 2015 9:52 AM

R182 I couldn't find anything about the outcome online. It looks as if Hall has control over her website now, so they might have settled it out of court. The amount the fan club runner/assistant wanted seemed kinda high, but is what she said was even partially true, she should've got some compensation for the large amount of work that she did. Hall got far more out of it than she did.

Hall is far from the first celeb to do this, though. Some overly invested fans will do all sorts of things for their Idols, for more attention than an average fan would get.

by Anonymousreply 184December 25, 2015 4:05 PM

Didn't it come out that this particular fan had started calling herself Dyna-Girl? I think she posted at SON at one time.

by Anonymousreply 185December 27, 2015 2:29 AM

Could be, R185. One who was that "devoted" of a fan has to at least be a little off upstairs.

Radar got a report of the lawsuit, which had this interesting tidbit: "She also said in the papers that she wants Paradis to give back personal property she believes Paradis possesses, such as photos, clothing, footage and other mementos."

How did the assistant get her clothes and other personal items. Makes one wonder if there was more to their relationship than her being the president of her fan club and assistant. I have a feeling there is a much juicier story there.
