R37 - About 3 or 4 years ago, a Millitary officer came forward at the urging of his wife to tell the British Authorities/Investigators what one of his colleagues had confided in him. It seemed like a fairly credible story as Millitary person told his wife in detail how the 'operation' was executed. The Millitary official's account was 'investigated' and quickly discredited. And never mentioned again. It was very eerie and troubling to read the little bit of information that was released.

[quote] R34: what happened in Roanoke?
We know that half the Pilgrims in Massachusetts died over their first Winter. Only four adult women survived. They were at peace with their neighboring Indians and probably would all have died without their help.
As for the 115 settlers at Roanoke, they were left alone for three years with hostile Indian neighbors. So what happened? Their number dwindled by disease, starvation, and child birth. When their numbers were greatly reduced, and remaining adults were massacred, and the children that were not massacred were taken to be raised by and as Indians.
And then they were taken away by space aliens. The end.

I want to know, like Noomie Rapace's character in Prometheus, where we came from. Because I believe there is intelligent life out there. Or therer was, and we are some kind of experiment, maybe even a last ditch experiement, and we are the "missing link". Maybe we were placed here, as on some kind of giant petrie dish to see what would happen.

Alexander's tomb was never established in Iraq. His elaborate casket was mounted inside an equally elaborate carriage and was beng transported from Iraq back to Macedonia in Greece, when Ptolemy, one of his generals, and his rumored half brother, whom he had placed in charge of Egypt, waylaid the carriage, and escorted it to Egypt. It was widely acknowledged to be in Egypt for centuries. Julius Caesar visited the tomb and so did Cleopatra and other notable historical figures. Where in Egypt he rested is a matter for debate. Some say he is in Alexandria, some say he is at the oasis near Siwa.

Alexander the Great's tomb is also one of my favorite mysteries. I think it was in Alexandria until after the rise of Christianity. At some point, after the fear and reverence for him as God had disapated, I think it would have been too great a target for tomb raiders to remain in existence.

I just watched that Pixar movie Inside Out the other night (yeah yeah leave me alone with your snarks) and I found it quite insightful about how our psyches and personalities are formed. It was especially interesting to me because the storyline is about the changes a young girl undergoes after moving across country, and I moved around a ton when I was little.
Anyway, as someone who struggles with depression and anxiety I actually recommend the movie in terms of learning a bit more about how we tick.

by Anonymous | reply 81 | November 10, 2015 2:01 PM |
The tomb of Alexander the Great, called the "Soma," Greek word for "body," by the inhabitants, stood more or less in downtown ancient Alexandria for centuries. At first he lay in a casket of gold, but a later Ptolemy melted that down for the money value, and replaced it with one of crystal. (There's a scene with a reconstruction of it int he Elizabeth Taylor "Cleopatra.") Contemporary celebrities visited it, including the Romans Augustus, who supposedly accidentally broke off the great man's nose, and the later emperor Caracalla, whose visit is the last recorded historical mention of the place. Over the years, it was looted by various people, with the emperor Caligula removing Alexander's breastplate and wearing it publicly. So it's debatable just how much remained in the tomb by the time it disappeared.
Earthquake, devastation, and Christian destructiveness all contributed to the general leveling of Alexandria. Interestingly, a current idea of one investigator is that Alexander's body was later transferred to Venice, where it was placed in what is now known as the tomb of Venice's patron saint, Mark, under the Cathedral of San Marco. The writer makes a good case for this, adding that Catholic Venetian church authorities have forbidden any DNA testing. But it is a valid idea, and shows how later Christians subsumed pagan locations and beliefs for their own uses.

by Anonymous | reply 83 | November 10, 2015 2:53 PM |
I doubt seriously Alexander the Great ever went to Venice. That sounds like some Da Vinci Code style B.S. I agree though, that his tomb was probably looted, ransacked, etc. All I would like to find is his bones. If Caligula did in fact snatch his breastplate to wear, then it's possible that he may have been brought to Rome, but I doubt it. It is more probable that Crazy Caligula had someone bring the breastplate to him.
I think Alexander is somewhere still in the area of Egypt. Not his wealth, but his bones. I think the mistake a lot of searchers make is that they still seem to believe they will find something intact, and I don't think that will happen. As I watched the developments surroinding the discovery of the tombs at Amphipolis, in the past few years, I found myself expecting that when or if they ever find Alexander (not in Greece) they will find essentially the same thing. A large ornate tomb, but with no valuables in it, just some wall and floor murals, some broken sculptures, and some bones.
I also wonder whether they can tell with testing? How would they get DNA? Every single member of Alexander's family was killed. His mother, his sister, his brother, and his kids. Did they ever find his father, Philip of Macedon? That would be the only chance. And if Philip was also Ptolemy's father as was commonly believed, how could we be sure the bones didn't belong to the Ptolemaic line? Now this is something I would love to see resolved in my lifetime. I've always been an Alexander fan.I laugh whenever the Greeks dispute his Gayness. He belonged to us!

Here is a mystery I would like solved but never hear addressed on Nova or on the Discovery Channel:
I understand why the Grand Canyon is so deep. The surface-plateau is far above sea level, and in the course of millions of years that the river has been there, it has cut down into the plateau, as it heads to the sea. Fine. But Why is the canyon so wide?" Even if the river was only a few feet deep, it's width suggests to me that the volume of water would have had to have been many times the volume of the Colorodo River today. And why would that be? And it would have had to be this width for millions of years. My hunch would be perhaps it was due to melting from ice ages, but I've never heard that proposed; nor any reason proposed, really. I've never heard them even say that they don't know why the canyon is so wide.
Does anyone know?

I remember when the Amy Bradley case was profiled on Unsolved Mysteries. I found it be very sad since she was vacationing with family and never got the answers. In the early 2000s, Montel Williams used to do a few episodes of his show each year that were devoted to missing persons cases. Amy's case was profiled there. From what I remember, an investigator working on her case was interviewed on Montel and no one from her family was there.

Those who are wondering about human origins, 60 minutes (which I stopped watching for years and years as it was beyond dull) did an interesting profile on the Hadron (sp?) Collider an underground hallowed out circular steel coil or tunnel buried deep beneath Switzerland and France.
There's a company which operates it, and is staffed by young and brilliant physicists and scientists from many countries.
Lesley Stahl interviewed 3 scientists and unfortunately, her lack of research (and possible disinterest) was reflected in the interview questions.
The only interesting thing I got out of that interview was that scientists can confirm that it is most likely that we only know 25% of the universe based on the collider's simulation of the Big Bang and therefore they are able to extrapolate that we don't or have any knowledge of the remaining 75% of the universe since that part is completely dark. No light.
The scientists conceded that it is possible that other dimensions that may exist over and above the dimensions humans are used to or aware of.
So I guess it would be nice to know a bit more about the universe. That could help us understand or figure out the possibility of other 'beings' being able to transport themselves regardless of time/distance factors.

by Anonymous | reply 140 | November 15, 2015 3:26 AM |
Yes, R139.
In a spiral galaxy like our own Milky Way, the stars circle a central hub. When the experts model the Galaxy, they find that there isn't enough mass that can be seen which is necessary to hold the Galaxy together. It should fly apart. The experts theorize that there is something invisible that cannot be directly detected by any means that is somehow holding the Galaxy together. They call it "dark matter", but it is just a placeholder that means "we don't know what is holding things together, but it must be something".
The experts also discovered that the galaxies are all speeding away from each other, on average, and that they are speeding up. They had expected a constant rate of speed, or a decreasing rate, if gravity from all the other galaxies were tugging on each other to slow each other down. Since they are all speeding up, and that defies the known laws of physics, they invented a concept of "dark energy", which is a placeholder used to mean whatever it is that is causing things to speed-up.
Together, dark matter and energy make up far more "stuff" than is otherwise detectable by traditional means.

by Anonymous | reply 144 | November 15, 2015 5:27 AM |
r141 Interesting.
Could we be seeing - since the galaxies are speeding up and away from each other - the slow disintegration of our galaxy. If our spiral galaxy with stars circling a central hub, one of Hadron Collider physicists said, we are seeing stars die, and sun is losing heat, could this diminishing hub or solar energy hub is causing the movement away or falling apart?
So that in another billion years, or whatever time is necessary, this "energy hub" extinguisher itself (and life as we know it) and perhaps gravitate towards another "light or energy hub"?
Or maybe all that remains is darkness. Conversely, maybe we could be the final (and last) remnants of a very complex intergalactic system that once was infused with so much energy that the entire expanse of the universe was lit.
And those lifeforms which inhabited the original intergalactic system died out or were extinguished and those remaining sought refuge here on this planet.

R154, it's a newish theory that all spiral gaxaxies, at least, have a "super massive black hole" at its center. I wouldn't call this a mystery. We can't see it, but we can see closely nearby stars rapidly circling something, and a black hole fits with all the other evidence.

R148 there is a small visitor center at Rosslyn Chapel near Edinburgh (the one in The Da Vinci Code) and upstairs is a little display about Freemasons. The chapel was built by the Sinclair family and they are deeply enmeshed in the history of Freemasons. There's a visitors book and just about every male European royal has signed it. Lots of heads of state too. All visiting what is thought to be a sacred place in Freemasonery.
It's easy to see where anyone could get the idea that Freemasons run the world when you visit that little upstairs room.
Actually, Rosslyn Chapel itself is something to add to the list of mysteries. There is a stone carving of an ear of corn, unknown in the old world, made 100 years before Columbus set sail. Now we all accept that Columbus didn't get here first but who brought corn back to medieval Scotland?
There's a lot of stories about Rosslyn, too many to go into here, but the one thing that strikes you when you go in is that there is nothing Christian about the place. Pagan, freemasonry, satanic imagery, new world order symbols, all that kind of stuff everywhere you look, all carved in stone. It's incredibly ornate, like standing inside a wedding cake.

Sometime after Casey Anthony's acquittal, a lawyer in Arizona asked to review the computer evidence.
