He says Sally was the love of his life. What was Loni, chopped liver?!
Burt Reynolds regrets letting go of Sally fields. How does Loni Anderson weigh in on this?
by Anonymous | reply 95 | August 19, 2018 2:14 AM |
He's so narcissistic, all he can do is use people. He used Loni and I'm sure she knows that by now.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | November 6, 2015 6:45 PM |
The poor guy has dementia. Don't be surprised at anything he says from here out. Women cost him the most? Really? How about a lifetime in the closet trying to convince the world that you're straight cost him the most.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | November 6, 2015 6:46 PM |
What ever happened to the son they adopted? That was in every magazine on this planet at the time.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | November 6, 2015 6:47 PM |
Loni has a small clit. Sally's clit looks like a medium sized cock. Burt being a closeted queen appreciated the fact that Sally would use her cock sized clit on him. That made living in the shadows so much easier.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | November 6, 2015 6:49 PM |
How does Louie Anderson weigh in on this? I'm guessing about 320lbs.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | November 6, 2015 6:51 PM |
He looks like his face was erased in Photoshop -- then drawn in again with Microsoft 95 Paint.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | November 6, 2015 6:56 PM |
Yeah, where is their son? Burt always seemed sad to me. A violent wife beater who was closeted with a lot of gay friends.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | November 6, 2015 7:01 PM |
I think he ended up hating Loni. Whatever. People do marry people they don't really love for all sorts of reasons. Not all terribly nefarious reasons - just not wise or mature reasons.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | November 6, 2015 7:03 PM |
I don't think he was gay, I think he was just unusually evolved on the subject for a redneck, due to his exposure to lots of gay people when he came to Hollywood.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | November 6, 2015 7:03 PM |
I think he'd fuck any available hole he found attractive, but women were for relationships.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | November 6, 2015 7:06 PM |
Of course he's gay. Look at his best friends: Jim Nabors, Charles Nelson Reilly, Dom DeLuise, Merv Griffin- he is for sure one of the gays.
If he were any gayer his name would be Gay Gayerson.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | November 6, 2015 7:08 PM |
The real love of his life was Hal Needham
by Anonymous | reply 12 | November 6, 2015 7:09 PM |
But his gay friends, like Dom (allegedly, seemingly) and Charles Nelson Reilly, weren't hot, and sure he just thought they were funny.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | November 6, 2015 7:10 PM |
He has the Tammy Cruise vibe of outwardly trying to present as hetero, but seems messed up and closeted. His life will be good one day for a Lifetime biopic.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | November 6, 2015 7:10 PM |
WHET Loni?
by Anonymous | reply 15 | November 6, 2015 7:11 PM |
As a kid, he didn't do anything for me. But I watched Hooper recently, and found him attractive. Burt and Jan Michael Vincent...yum!

A friend (who would now be quite the e.g. were he still alive) picked him up at the Stud on Melrose back in the day, and the owner told me he used to go in there. I always thought Burt was bi.

Burt was a superstar, no way he was cruising gay bars. It was risky enough for his image him to have all the queeny friends.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | November 6, 2015 7:27 PM |
Funny reference to his $100,000 worth of toupees in the article.

by Anonymous | reply 24 | November 6, 2015 7:29 PM |
He wasn;t a superstar during the Gunsmoke Days.. and yes he did hit the bars in Hollywood.
And the first wife liked the ladies.
What a miserable closeted life.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | November 6, 2015 7:29 PM |
I think there's gay and bi and straight and then there's this weird mix of asexual and bi -- actors will fuck anyone or let anyone suck them off but there's no real connection because it's all about them.
Seriously, actors just don't know how to have friends or be in relationships and for God's sakes they should NOT be parents.

[quote]Burt was a superstar, no way he was cruising gay bars. It was risky enough for his image him to have all the queeny friends.
It was the 1970s when my friend picked him up. No cellphone cameras back then, no social media, no Internet and the gay press — never mind the mainstream press — never printed such things.
Hell, Whitney Houston was a regular at Catch One and whatever the lesbian bar on Santa Monica Boulevard was called back in the 1980s, when she was a superstar. Such things never were printed back then, until the concept of "outing" was born.

Gay written all over him.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | November 6, 2015 7:48 PM |
I always thought Burt was straight back in the day. I'm not saying he was straight. It was a combination of things that made him seem convincingly straight, even with the company he kept. It seems he found true friendship with Dom and Reilly, Merv.
He was a real ladies man, his movie roles and acting were convincing. Burt also had, at one time, a penchant for humor, good fun and silliness that wasn't off putting in some movies and with his personal appearances on talk shows and the like. He was likeable, which added to his attractive nature.
I haven't read the Sally article yet, but I wonder where things started to turn for him. Was it age, poor decisions for roles? He developed a pretty bad addiction to a heavy sleep aid medication (forget the name.) That seems to have done a lot of damage to his judgment over time for all kinds of things like financial management, career choices and relationships.
Anyway, he's an actor that had a lot of promise as he matured before he went off the rails. I have a soft spot for Burt, a man that seems to be realizing a lot of regret over his life.

He suffered a jaw injury while making an Elmore Leonard movie in Florida. I can't remember the name, but Charles Durning was in it. He lost a lot of weight, and AIDS rumors started flying.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | November 7, 2015 12:04 AM |
He pretty much shit all over Loni in the current Vanity Fair article as a huge spendthrift.
He told a funny story about giving Loni a platinum Amex card with a credit limit of $45,000 and how she ran it up to the credit limit.
In 30 minutes.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | November 7, 2015 12:36 AM |
He also said she would buy $10,000 dresses because "I have to dress like a star." (She was C List tops.)
She never wore the same dress twice.
She admits herself that she has an Imelda Marcos-like obsession with shoes.
Of course, it was no doubt a two way street. He had multiple affairs while he was with Loni, then dumped her by fax.

I thought Burt Reynolds was hot in DELIVERANCE except he kept making that weird noise/laugh that Phil Hartman would also do when he played him on SNL

He didn't "let go" of Sally Field. She let go of him. I don't think she ever regretted it, but he's always whined about 'losing" her. But it never would have worked out, and I think Sally Field knew that.
Both he and Loni Anderson seem like total assholes, which is probably why they hooked up. People like that are drawn to each other. I guess it seemed like a good idea at the time. I also wondered what happened to that child they adopted. They made such a big deal of it, like celebrities always do when they adopt children. It makes such good publicity.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | November 7, 2015 1:12 AM |
I think Sally Field ran like hell away from him. If he ever beat her up, she never said and he would never admit it, but I wouldn't be surprised.

by Anonymous | reply 53 | November 7, 2015 1:54 AM |
I read Lorna Luft's book. She was molested, you know. She dated Burt and talked about his panic attacks and painkillers. This would be pre-Sally.
Sally seems like a straight arrow. If you love someone you can make allowances for their faults only for so long. I don't think she wanted the drama. She was young, too.

Is Norm Canadian or something? WeiRd accent. SWISS? CAN'T be American
by Anonymous | reply 58 | November 7, 2015 3:18 AM |
I have known Buddy(Burt) for 40 years. He has many good qualities, and he is a decent man in most ways. But anything he has ever said concerning women and his drug usage was spun to make him appear less flawed than he was. His 'broken jaw" as an excuse for his deterioration in the AIDS rumor years was actually a stark weight loss and general decline due to his out of control drugging and drinking. He did break his jaw, but it certainly wasn't the cause of his decline, He was a serious pill popper many years before that ever happened.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | November 7, 2015 3:37 AM |
R58- Norm MacDonald is Canadian. Brother of Canadian reporter Neil MacDonald.
I thought Sally and Burt split because he got jealous when she was nominated for Norma Rae. Isn't that why David Steinberg went to the Oscars with her instead of Burt?
by Anonymous | reply 60 | November 7, 2015 3:55 AM |
Weird fact: I knew an antiques dealer who owned a shop in Mohawk, NY who not only looked exactly like Norm McDonald, but sounded exactly like him. When I mentioned it to him he said everyone told him that, but that he didn't know who Norm McDonald was. Yeah, right. If people keep telling you that you look and sound exactly like a famous person, you're going to look him up online if you don't know him. Come on now.

Interesting dish r59 - what's your take on his sexuality?
by Anonymous | reply 62 | November 7, 2015 6:31 PM |
My take is that all true straight guys are homophobic, and would never have lots of gay friends just because he enjoys their company, thinks they're funny,
by Anonymous | reply 63 | November 7, 2015 6:42 PM |
And now poor Norm McDonald is relegated to a recurring role on "The Middle" and playing Col. Sanders in KFC commercials.

Norm is just Chevy-lite, both known as homophobic to the SNL cast and crew. Norm's not quite the obnoxious douchebag Chevy is, but then who could be?

It's funny. There's this tape of Marlon Brando saying how much he hated Burt Reynolds. I never really understood why.

There's a sympathetic piece about him in the latest Vanity Fair with Bill Murray on the cover. Apparently he's frail: "at times, his hands tremble. He leans his spindly frame on a black cane. He never once rises from the sofa." Later in the article he's described as looking better. Mostly the article dwells on his financial state. He's selling off possession; his Golden Globe for "Boogie Nights", his Emmy for "Evening Shade", a gold pocket watch given to him by Sally Field, his jacket, boots and shirt from "Smoky and the Bandit." But he says he's not broke.
His money woes were due to overspending, bad investments and women. Loni Anderson really soaked him and continues to do so. Her latest legal claim is that he owes her $97,000. A court ordered him to pay her that amound, plus $57,000 in accrued interest. They had a prenup agreement when they got married, but due to a loophole she was able to take him to the cleaners. He was an idiot for marrying her.
There is nothing in the article about him being gay, although due to health issues AIDS rumors were spread about him. Apparently he's a sap when it comes to women, and has wasted a lot of money on them.
He got acclaim and awards for his comeback role in "Boogie NIghts" but it did nothing for his career.
He comes across in the article as a guy who never really fully grew up, who makes bad decisions and continues to do so. A Hollywood doofus.
by Anonymous | reply 81 | November 8, 2015 5:22 PM |
R81 Good stuff. I know he desperately wanted the Oscar for Boogie Nights and he might've gotten a 3-5 year bump in terms of better roles if he won but the beginning of the 80s really saw his reversal of fortune. The break up with Sally, turning down Terms of Endearment, the broken jaw, the divorce from Loni etc. Even though Evening Shade was a bright spot for him and his brief comeback with Boogie Nights he never seemed to me to be too smart. He probably thought he could coast on his fame indefinitely .
