by Anonymousreply 16November 5, 2015 6:47 AM

"Fantastic Four" was a huge flop, but I think what makes it the biggest is that it's so thoroughly despised by the few people who did see it, whereas people just forgot about that Zac Efron bomb where he played a DJ.

Something like "Our Brand is Crisis" was a flop, but in a year or so people will watch it on Netflix and think it's not a bad movie to have on in the background while doing laundry on a Saturday afternoon, so long as you don't pay too much attention to it.

by Anonymousreply 17November 5, 2015 6:58 AM

Scott Walker. NPH - yes. Every move that McDonald's makes.

by Anonymousreply 18November 5, 2015 7:00 AM

Pan. It needs to make $400 mil worldwide to break even and it's not even remotely close to $100 mil. Bombed in Asia, where the studio was hoping it would make up some ground. They will lose hundreds of millions on it.

by Anonymousreply 19November 5, 2015 7:02 AM

It is pretty funny when Hollywood, a mix of art and business, makes a major flop. Its almost always when they spend huge and make hideous creative choices. Everyone can sense something without any artistry. Its not about high art or low art or popular or intellectual. Its the void that sinks these bombs.

R23 The month of July flopped -- because our Hipster Messiah failed to return thus ushering in a new Dark Age, a post holocaust wasteland of pop-cultural insignificance. But you’re obviously not hip enough to understand and therefore unworthy of further intercourse.

by Anonymousreply 25November 5, 2015 9:55 AM

[quote]Zac Efron's "We Are Your Friends" is the third biggest flop of all TIME.

Budget was only $6M; Warner Bros paid $2M, although marketing was possibly around $10M. In any case not the biggest flop out there by a long shot. WB made the mistake of opening it so wide (2,333 theaters) and that's the reason it's considered to be a huge flop because that flop list you have lists only openings with 2000+ theaters.

Wasn't "F4" basically intended to flop? Made with nothing and nobody, just so the studio could keep the right to some Marvel Comic stuff?

"Pan" probably lost more than all the other nominated films combined.

by Anonymousreply 34November 5, 2015 8:20 PM

Basically yes r34 but the actors and others involved also pissed of the fanboys and the story was horrible.

by Anonymousreply 41November 6, 2015 2:07 AM

[quote]Wasn't "F4" basically intended to flop? Made with nothing and nobody, just so the studio could keep the right to some Marvel Comic stuff?

Budget was $125M, marketing probably over $50M. It was absolutely not intended to flop. Expected loss is $80M to $100M. Unfortunately because the film turned out to be shit home entertainment and tv rights won't be saving the film either.

Aloha has expected loss of $65M. Tomorrowland $120M to $150M. Pan could have the loss of $150M although I'm fairly certain it will sell at the home market. Pixels expected loss $75M plus. Man from UNCLE $80M plus.

John Ellis Bush OWNS this thread!

Between those old farts known as his father and brother fighting over Darth Vader and talking about that FUGLY drug addict daughter, he will be the biggest flop of the year!

by Anonymousreply 46November 6, 2015 7:21 AM

I don't think a pan would actually flop. I imagine it would make a loud thud sound, especially if it was cast iron.

Who would pay $400 million for a pan?

by Anonymousreply 47November 6, 2015 12:22 PM

Scream Queens. i saw half of the first episode. Absolutely the worst thing I've ever seen on TV.

by Anonymousreply 48November 6, 2015 12:34 PM

Scott Walker's presidential campaign may have flopped, but he's come back with a vengeance in WI politics, getting the GOP legislature to pretty much vote campaign finance corruption in to law. He's going to do a lot of damage to that state - thank God he didn't get the chance to do it to the rest of the country.

WI is fucked.

by Anonymousreply 49November 6, 2015 1:24 PM

r39 wins. Sad but true.

r14 is right about Ed Helms but we should also mention screen writer /actor John Francis Daley (Freaks & Geeks). He preceded the Vacation reboot with Horrible Bosses 2 and Burt Wonderstone.

by Anonymousreply 50November 6, 2015 1:28 PM

[quote]The "National Lampoon's Vacation" reboot, starring box-office poison Ed Helms

Budget $31M, B.O. domestic $59M, foreign $45M, total global $104M.

Certainly not a hit but didn't really do much damage for the parties involved although I don't know how much they spend on marketing. Let's not forget B.O. is only part of the profit making machine. The home market and the tv rights used to bring most of the profit. Not sure of the situation today but the theater run is absolutely not the only way a movie makes money.

by Anonymousreply 51November 6, 2015 1:52 PM

R20 Agreed

by Anonymousreply 52November 6, 2015 2:24 PM

Looking at this roll call of absolute dreck makes me wonder, can anyone think of a worse year at the Multiplex? Numbers and art both seem at a low ebb.

by Anonymousreply 53November 6, 2015 2:27 PM

Budget $31M, B.O. domestic $59M, foreign $45M, total global $104M.

Math? Typo?

by Anonymousreply 54November 6, 2015 2:28 PM

59 + 45 = 104 incoming - 31 outgoing = 73 "profit", less marketing

by Anonymousreply 55November 6, 2015 2:32 PM

Studios get approx. 50 % of the domestic B.O. and 25 % of the foreign. With those percentages Vacation brought in around $29.5M + $11.2M = $40.7M from theaters. Marketing could've easily been $40M to $70M but I couldn't find any figures.

Hollywood Reporter article says that the average global marketing is $200M for a blockbuster. The US marketing is around $40M for medium sized movies. That is why a medium sized movie Aloha with only a $37M budget ended up losing $65M. They spend way too much on the marketing.

by Anonymousreply 56November 6, 2015 3:01 PM

Yes Janet is done and she will go back crying to her billionaire husband.

Meanwhile MAD is still whoring that horrible album and the Delusional are lapping it up. Reminds me of Trump and Carson. Sad really.

by Anonymousreply 73November 7, 2015 10:13 PM

[quote]Yes Janet is done and she will go back crying to her billionaire husband.

Glad you're finally admitting she's done... now if only you'd let go of the false belief that her husband is a "billionaire..."

But she is still a whore who had to sell herself in order to pay off her debts.

by Anonymousreply 74November 7, 2015 10:38 PM

Wow, r26 didn't bother to name or document the biggest flop of 2015.

So yeah, it's still WE ARE YOUR FRIENDS.

by Anonymousreply 75November 8, 2015 11:41 PM

Why so many Janet threads on DL? Is it an inside joke?
