In a letter to be auctioned this month, the 007 author writes that Goldfinger’s lesbian love interest only needed ‘the right man’
Ian Fleming: Pussy Galore was a lesbian... and Bond cured her

I remember we had a thread about this a few months ago.

Goldfinger ends as Bond looks into Pussy’s “deep blue-violet eyes that were no longer hard … He bent and kissed them lightly. He said, ‘They told me you only liked women’. She said, ‘I never met a man before.’” Bond promises her “a course of TLC”, before she looks up at his “passionate, rather cruel mouth” and it comes “ruthlessly down on hers”.

The original book was written in the late 50's/early 60's? Not surprising about the letter - that was the conventional lack of wisdom at the time.

Yikes.

Bond used a plastic cock and pretended he was a FTM. That's why Pussy let him in.

I find it funny that Flemming fashioned Bond after himself yet he was a desk jockey during the war and what he lacked in stamina with women he made up for in numbers of women.

R6, Bond was inspired by multiple real life characters. And really, you can't expect an author to only use what he's done himself as a basis for characters he creates.
The letter is from 1959. Is it really that weird that people didn't know that much about lesbians? I'd imagine if you didn't know gay people yourself you might've had pretty weid misconceptions about them. Just think of the mess trans folks cause at Datalounge in 2015. People who probably know nothing about them keep saying they have them all figured out as mental cases. Fleming saying a male kiss 'cures' a lesbian sounds absolutely lame next to the trans hate here, on a bloody gay forum.
I've always been more into Modesty Blaise and I've read probably all the novels and short stories Peter O'Donnell wrote. I was not happy when in one novel he had Modesty or Willie, when talking about a gay thug/killer/bodyguard, saying something like 'fa ggots are the nastiest creatures'. But what can you do, those were different times. I'd like to think O'Donnell didn't hate gays. Especially since he also wrote historical romance novels under a female pseudonym. He was all about strong women and I'd like to think he was also sympathetic for us gay guys.

And you really believe it, right, OP?
by Anonymous | reply 8 | November 5, 2015 2:38 AM |
Why then didn't he call her Pussy Swingdoor?
by Anonymous | reply 9 | November 5, 2015 2:45 AM |
That was very obvious in the film.

It may not be PC, but I think this does apply to some lesbian women.

Sean Connery was the sexiest man alive back then. He would make anyone desire him.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | April 5, 2020 3:27 PM |
I'd be a lesbian for Sean Connery.

R11, with that logic, it probably applies to some gay men as well.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | April 5, 2020 4:05 PM |
R11 is an idiot.

r7, Don't EVER compare us to trannys. Same sex attraction and homoeroticism has always existed throughout history. Gay men aren't mutilating our bodies, taking damaging hormones, and commuting suicide after chopping off dicks in regret. Yes they are discriminated against just as we were and still are today. But we are mentally sane.
