I cancelled HBO subscription 6 months ago. My cable provider in Canada was (in all seriousness) repeating films over and over. I completely understand why people are switching to Netflix etc

by Anonymousreply 2November 2, 2015 12:56 AM

For a while there it was miss congeniality every other weekend.

by Anonymousreply 3November 2, 2015 1:00 AM

Mrs. Doubtfire. Even before Robin died, it was on every single weekend. Still is, and so it The Birdcage.

The Wizard of Oz. Used to be a yearly event, now it's just ALWAYS ON.

by Anonymousreply 11November 2, 2015 1:19 AM

Mannequin. Seemed like it was on constant rotation in the late 80's and I have noticed that they have been playing it again lately. Such a guilty pleasure...

R2 - I know, it's crazy. My cable provider adds maybe two new movies to its 'on demand' each month, then shows the same shit over and over again. I only get HBO for the series, but I'm thinking it's probably worth purchasing what I want off iTunes and using Netflix and dumping all the speciality channels.

by Anonymousreply 22November 2, 2015 12:16 PM

Netflix is a little disappointing to me. Not a lot of good movies. Mainly a lot of junk.

by Anonymousreply 23November 2, 2015 12:36 PM

Also why is it that many of these movies are on youtube and never removed for copyright reasons, unlike most others? Always wondered about this.

by Anonymousreply 24November 2, 2015 2:42 PM

Back to the Future trilogy, Indiana Jones, every fucking weekend!

It seemed like when I was in college, TBS used to show the amazing one-two punch of Soapdish and Coal Miner's Daughter every other Sunday. No idea why they always showed them together other they are awesome, female-driven movies.

I remember studying for a class called "Seasonal Plant Toxology" (a gut science class that was essentially identifying different kinds of pine trees) while watching them both. Now whenever I think of either of them, I think of index cards.

by Anonymousreply 32November 2, 2015 7:17 PM

Casablanca is always on TCM. Enough, already!

Has anyone else noticed how straight men always say this is one of their favorite movies? I find it interesting. Do they love the gay rape scenes or something?

Netflix will take movies away, then four months later bring them back. Then say they're adding new movies. I think they're spending more money on doing stupid new shows. Than requiring new movies.
