Are you American OP? In some foreign countries, it's just a common thing. Some first generation Americans do that too. My Mexican relatives were kind of like that when their father was alive. He doted on his children. Their dad was first generation American. My dad's side are British ancestry/Midwestern farm family, they don't kiss anyone and never hug. You could just tell it was off limits. I used to call them "the Vulcan family."

Anyway, if you are comfortable with it, there's nothing wrong with it. Americans are too repressed sometimes.
