In the first season Ethel and Fred fight and she goes home to mother. Then in the third season she tells Fred she is visiting her mother when she goes up to the lodge to help Lucy.
Then when the gang get to Albuquerque, Ethel's dad says, in regarding her room, "WE kept it like it was." (To wit Fred says, "It must be a dusty mess by now.). The WE must mean her father and mother right?
So where was she?

I get upset by the stupidest things happening on TV sitcoms. Always have.
The thing is that Lucy and Ricky go on that hunting trip with Ethel driving a station wagon behind them. Now, the thing that bugs me is not Ethel driving in one episode and not knowing how in another...it is with those three off on a hunting trip while Fred is left at home taking care of little Ricky. Fred taking care of that little boy all by himself. Poor kid.
Beer and hot dogs and beans for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Well, I guess that isn't so bad.

A friend who knew Vivian said that she hated her mother and didn't even bother to attend the funeral when she died.
There's no way Viv would have let anyone play a version of her mother on LUCY. We are just to assume that Mr. Potter is a widower and the "we" is a royal one meaning himself and Ethel's other friends in town....and her "trained hands."

R7, Ethel went back to her mother in the episode where Ricky and Lucy fight. I mean they fought all the time but the episode where she faked being injured by being hit by a bus. In the hunting episode, Lucy explain that Ethel will tell Fred she's visiting her mother.
And while we're at it, what happened to Mr. Macgillicuddy? Or Mr. Ricardo? Or any of Fred's parents.
