Tasteful friends: Let's tour this manse in Cajun country

$2.5 million gets you a 7-bedroom McMansion down on the bayou. Hope you like Home Depot's wide selection of "Tuscan gold" accoutrements!

"Manse" does not mean the same thing as "mansion."

by Anonymousreply 1October 26, 2015 8:53 PM

Do they have Arabs down on the bayou?

by Anonymousreply 2October 26, 2015 8:59 PM

We are supposed to find that hideous. But somehow, it isn't hideously hideous. It's kind of friendly in its awfulness. I don't like recessed lighting. The volumes are pleasing. All the treatments and furnishing are revolting but many are charmingly so.

Is that a lighted aquarium under the bar? If not, is SHOULD be.

The ceilings painted with bizarre flowers, very unusual.

Why is EVERY wall sponged? Why not!

by Anonymousreply 3October 26, 2015 9:06 PM

The kitchen looks like a dining area in a cheerful "upscale" Las Vegas buffet — the bland gold, the fish tank, the flowers on the ceiling.

There should be men in XXL T-shirts and knee-length shorts wandering around in a trance, carrying dinner plates piled high with snow crab legs and mashed potatoes.

by Anonymousreply 4October 26, 2015 9:28 PM

It's awful. There are colors other than gold, yellow and ocher.

by Anonymousreply 5October 26, 2015 9:30 PM

By comparison: the Bellagio buffet.

Better than 99% of hovels in NYC.

by Anonymousreply 7October 26, 2015 9:40 PM

Have you noticed the frameless canvas landscape above the vitrine in the dining room. Odd.

Why are real estate agents so boring and repetitive with their photos? There are five photos of the interior entry hall. Two would have shown us all we needed to see. By the time I clicked through the third or fourth one, I had lost interest in seeing any more of the house.

by Anonymousreply 9October 26, 2015 9:52 PM

The interior is a bit overdone and looks quite tacky, but I wouldn't call it ugly. The WV mansion was far worse.

by Anonymousreply 10October 26, 2015 10:07 PM

103 Riverbriar Ave? Even the street name is impossibly pretentious.

by Anonymousreply 11October 26, 2015 10:07 PM

It that place included everything in the pics, furniture,"art", fixtures, lighting, chandeliers etc., you could make back a lot of the purchase price by selling it all. I liked the pair of glass display cabinets. Loved the home itself. Also the ceiling flower mosaic was beautiful. I'd also sell and replace all the stenciled glass interior doors, and replace with non-glass doors paint most of the walls. Paint all the gold trim white. Liked some of the rugs, especially the one in the library. The slideshow crapped-out on me twice so I didn't get to the bedrooms and backyard etc.

by Anonymousreply 12October 26, 2015 10:24 PM

I did notice that, R8, it was weirdly un-gilt-framed. Perhaps they hadn't got around to it yet.

Does anyone who isn't Beethoven need two grand pianos?

There were some beautiful things but almost every room was exhausting to the eye, the overall effect was Valium-worthy.

by Anonymousreply 13October 26, 2015 11:46 PM

Oddly, for $2.7 million, I find it pretty ok. Considering what 2.7 will buy you in SF. No pile of human excrement at your front steps, odor of urine wafting thru the garden and no knife wielding crazy screaming in the dead of night.

by Anonymousreply 14October 27, 2015 1:21 AM

Too close to the road. Too gaudy. Someone won the lottery and overpaid for gold everything.

by Anonymousreply 15October 27, 2015 1:30 AM

It's got great space and potential - BUT...NOT EVERYTHING HAS TO BE DECORATED! God damn! More is more in this place - apparently.

I'll bet $100 they're selling this place at a loss - they overpaid for all these fancy (usually gaudy) details. They spent way more than $2.5 million - and foolishly.

Let me guess - the guy has a big beer belly, yellow pants, pink shirt, sunglasses; the wife has big blonde hair, big exposed tits, LOTS of gold bracelets, short skirt and cheetah print fuck me pumps.

What do I win?

by Anonymousreply 16October 27, 2015 1:32 AM

They're moving to the Trump Plaza where they'll feel right at home.

by Anonymousreply 17October 27, 2015 1:38 AM

Stunning. But I don’t have any tolerance for even the slightest bit of humidity. I’d be sweating like a whore in church.

by Anonymousreply 18January 30, 2021 5:59 AM

That’s pretty hideous, but the photographer sure made it look like Versailles inside.

by Anonymousreply 19January 30, 2021 6:13 AM

It's in Louisiana, who would want to live there, and I live here, just no.

by Anonymousreply 20January 30, 2021 6:31 AM

I hate everything about it.

by Anonymousreply 21January 30, 2021 6:40 AM

R20 this you?

by Anonymousreply 22January 30, 2021 6:43 AM

Perfection!

by Anonymousreply 23January 30, 2021 8:25 AM

Look at those cheap, tiny towels in the bathroom and the big, heavy duty plunger right next to the toilet, sitting right on the bare floor. And the little white plastic garbage can from the 99 cent store

by Anonymousreply 24January 30, 2021 8:51 AM

Ahem, this casino is missing its slot machines.

Only a 3 car garage? Peasants!

by Anonymousreply 25January 30, 2021 9:04 AM

Agree 100% with the posts above: my first thought was, if this place wasn't designed by Steve Wynn himself, it was certainly inspired by one of his casinos.

It's insanely overdone and inappropriate for its location BUT at least it does not look cheap. All the finishes are top quality, many probably custom-made, and you can see that the $2.7 million price is probably at or near cost. Hard to hate.

So I honestly think the best use for it would be as a kind of novelty B&B that can be rented out to groups that want a fun weekend. I guess it doesn't have a pool, which would be a downside for that usage (although you could probably put one in). And it looks like it's close to several beaches. Is there anything worth seeing or doing in Lafayette?

by Anonymousreply 26January 30, 2021 9:22 AM

I don't care how upscale the building materials are, I would never spend that kind of money for a house in a development.

And the house isn't even remotely interesting to me.

by Anonymousreply 27January 30, 2021 10:30 AM

Wow, the church ministers around here don't get houses that big!

by Anonymousreply 28January 30, 2021 10:32 AM

Ewww! Pay that much to live in swamp land with alligators and other creepy crawlies for neighbors? No, thanks.

by Anonymousreply 29January 30, 2021 10:34 AM

Of course it is, Defacto.

by Anonymousreply 30January 30, 2021 10:47 AM

It's as if the builders and the decorators went to their suppliers and said "we want the tackiest things you have or can get, and keep it coming".

by Anonymousreply 31January 30, 2021 11:01 AM

Gross. Tasteless.

by Anonymousreply 32January 30, 2021 11:17 AM

There’s just no way to rest your eyes inside that place.

by Anonymousreply 33January 30, 2021 11:21 AM

Somewhere there’s a specific buyer for that house, good luck finding them, because I don’t think it can be renovated/stripped down to normal. You’re stuck with those columns. (Maybe I’m too pessimistic, I didn’t get past the living room)

by Anonymousreply 34January 30, 2021 11:37 AM

At least the decor and style are "consistent" across the place. The two pianos are probably because there is a husband and wife who both have a lot of training and like to play duets. It looks like it has been marked down to 1.9M and is part of an upscale subdivision with at least one house at an even higher asking price $4+M

It's always going to be cheaper in a small town away from big cities than SF. we really don't need to hear your tedious stories. The owner is older and probably a widow.

by Anonymousreply 35January 30, 2021 11:48 AM

WHY? have more bathrooms than bedrooms?? i'll never understand this.

by Anonymousreply 36January 30, 2021 11:52 AM

Its a teardown.

by Anonymousreply 37January 30, 2021 12:16 PM

This house looks familiar - and yep, we did do this house in a few threads.

But DeFacto and his weird ass likes to bump threads from 2015.

DeFacto - please go back to drinking or take up some other hobby. Nobody likes your Trumpster ass here.

by Anonymousreply 38January 30, 2021 12:25 PM

I actually really like this. The paintings are atrocious, and it’s need a bit more color inside, but I’d give this one a thumbs up.

by Anonymousreply 39January 30, 2021 12:29 PM

i don't...can anyone explain more bathrooms than bedrooms? why?

by Anonymousreply 40January 30, 2021 12:40 PM

i really can't figure out why you would have more bathrooms than bedrooms. wtf?

by Anonymousreply 41January 30, 2021 12:45 PM

Very trumpian....expensive tacky, trying too hard in showing off wealth. Less is more.

by Anonymousreply 42January 30, 2021 12:48 PM

R26, I figure the main or only appeal of living in Lafayette is access to cajun music and groceries and cooking. But I bet that gets old pretty quick. Otherwise, it's just your standard subtropical hellhole.

by Anonymousreply 43January 30, 2021 12:49 PM

Quick somebody call David Bromstad watch him get a boner for his clients on MLDH!!

by Anonymousreply 44January 30, 2021 12:50 PM

Whew! I'd hate to be the gal who has to mop those marble floors every day.

by Anonymousreply 45January 30, 2021 12:53 PM

It looks like a casino.

by Anonymousreply 46January 30, 2021 12:58 PM

Although it’s over the top and gaudy I don’t hate it. For the price you are getting a lot of home.

by Anonymousreply 47January 30, 2021 12:59 PM

Rococo Parisian palace by way of the Macaroni Grill.

by Anonymousreply 48January 30, 2021 1:03 PM

PERFECT, R48!!! You capture it exactly. I would only add that it's totally impersonal. Looks like a bad hotel experience from theb70's not a home.

by Anonymousreply 49January 30, 2021 1:08 PM

It's not as ugly as it could be but I never understood why you'd want to live SO CLOSE to other people when you have that kind of money. I'd go for acres and privacy over the biggest house possible. Always baffles me here in northern Virginia. So many McMansions where you can literally see into the neighbors windows from your own.

by Anonymousreply 50January 30, 2021 2:02 PM

Looks like it was done by the same decorator that does the Cheesecake Factory restaurants

by Anonymousreply 51January 30, 2021 2:36 PM

R51 just admitted he goes to Cheesecake Factory.

by Anonymousreply 52January 31, 2021 12:56 AM

Ouch...

by Anonymousreply 53January 31, 2021 1:03 AM

Barnum & Bailey baroque. It’s in a subdivision. Love how they highlighted the rust leeching out of the fountain plumbing. Heinous, but consider where it is.
