Jeremy Lin's New Hairstyle Got Him Roasted on Twitter

Jeremy Lin has been trying to bounce back from that awful bowl cut he was rocking this past NBA preseason, but he still hasn't seem to gotten a handle on a hairdo that suits him now that the league is moving further into the regular season. Falling back to the adidas three stripes cut he had while playing on the Houston Rockets might be a good call right about now.

His team, the Charlotte Hornets, took on the Atlanta Hawks earlier tonight in a tough 94-92 loss, and Lin came out rocking the new heavily hair gel'd spikes. Of course, Twitter immediately went off and did not spare the poor dude.

Charlotte Hornets guard Jeremy Lin is disappointed about the way Asians were stereotyped during an onstage skit at Sunday night's Oscars, and said more racial awareness is needed.

"I just feel like sometimes the way people perceive Asians or Asian-Americans today can be disappointing in the way they view them," Lin said after the Hornets practice on Tuesday. "Even Asian-American masculinity or whatever you want to talk about, just a lot of the ways that Asians are perceived I don't always agree with."

Lin was born in California, but his parents migrated here from Taiwan in the mid-1970s.

At Sunday night's awards show, host Chris Rock introduced three Asian children dressed in tuxedos as PricewaterhouseCoopers accountants and joked: "They sent us their most dedicated, accurate and hard-working representatives. I want you to please welcome Ming Zhu, Bao Ling and David Moskowitz."

He later joked, "If anybody's upset about that joke, just tweet about it on your phone that was probably also made by these kids."

Lin took to social media on Monday by tweeting: Seriously though, when is this going to change?!? Tired of it being "cool" and "ok" to bash Asians smh (hash)Oscars

Lin wasn't the only one upset.

Mee Moua, president and executive director of the Washington-based Asian Americans Advancing Justice, called the show a setback for diversity in a statement Monday.

Sunday "night's ceremony, and particularly the 'joke' involving Asian children, which played off more than one damaging stereotype of Asians and Asian Americans, exposed one of the failings of how we talk about race in America: race relations are not a black-white binary," Moua said. "It is to all of our detriment to look at race narrowly. We need to work together to dismantle the systems that devalue the experiences of minority groups so we can see the tales of the diversity that have shaped our nation reflected accurately."

Lin said he's never met Rock and has "no issues" with the comedian, calling him a "funny guy."

He understands that Rock probably didn't write the skit by himself, but couldn't let the perceived slight slip by without making a stand.

"I thought it was a chance for me to stand up for Asians," Lin said Tuesday.

Lin, who earned national attention for his scoring prowess while playing for the New York Knicks during the "Linsanity" era, said too often Asians are depicted with certain stereotypes in Hollywood.

"In acting, you look at Asian roles, they always seem to be in similar roles," Lin said. "I feel like we are just so much more broad than that. What you see on TV, that is so influential. Perception is reality and that's the truth in today's day and age -- and we're in such a technological and digital age.

"So if we can start branching out a little bit or at least showing that we are different than what other people think we are, maybe we can start to break down some of those walls."

Lin said his comments on Twitter aren't meant to bash Rock.

He said he actually enjoyed Rock's opening monologue when he talked about the lack of diversity in the Oscar award nominations.

"I think the whole push was he talking about opportunities and diversity and things that I totally agree with," Lin said. "I thought his monologue was well done. He walked a fine line and did it pretty well."

In a report by Sportsrageous, it is said that Lin's production has slowly gone down over the past few games. The downfall doesn't stop with production as his figures reveal that his time in the court has also been cut.

On Friday, the Charlotte Hornets defeated the Indiana Pacers with a 7-point lead, but Lin didn't, who was once taking his time in the battlefield, played only 23 minutes and only bagged 7 points. Compared to Kemba Walker's 33 points and Nicolas Batum's 31 points, it seems the "Linsanity" star is giving the glory away.

The outlet further explained that head coach Steve Clifford can't be blamed for placing Lin on the bench for additional minutes since the games succeeding the team's loss to Cleveland and Atlanta are very crucial in their overall standing. Lin had done pretty well during the games with the Cavaliers and the Hawks, but the following battles seemed to take a toll on him.

Recent rumors also suggest that after his final year in Charlotte, Lin may become an unrestricted free-agent this summer if he continues to shy away from the spotlight. It should be noted that he proved to be a good acquisition for the team throughout the first 45 games. However, some are noticing the setbacks on his gameplay ever since Courtney Lee moved to the team.

According to reports, Lin's minutes were reduced ever since Lee moved in with the Hornets from the Memphis Grizzlies.

On the other hand, his fans are positive that he will pick up on his gameplay once more and conquer the following games, despite having his game time minutes cut. He also seems to be optimistic about everything going on in his career these days, giving fans more reason to remain faithful to the Lination's leader.

Who is the top NBA player on YouTube in terms of subscribers and views?

When Kyle Nelson walks into a boardroom to pitch a prospective client about his social intelligence and analytics company, MVPindex, chances are that no one can answer the above icebreaker; in fact, that has never happened to the Co-Founder and Chief Marketing Officer of the Dallas-based company.

It’s been over four years since the #Linsanity movement, Jeremy Lin’s rise to national prominence as a player for the New York Knicks. The five minutes of fame on the hardwood quickly came and went for the current Charlotte Hornets point guard, but what has quietly remained is his social influence.

“Jeremy loves living in social,” said Nelson, adding that Lin touts 535,000-plus subscribers on YouTube along with 53 million video views. “… He enjoys giving full access to his fans, and that kind of personality on social and that openness gets rewarded. Fans see it, they follow it, and they engage in it.”

According to MVPindex, which calculates athletes’ follower counts, engagement and online sentiment into an index score, Lin currently ranks in the top five among NBA players, with the likes of James, recently-retired star Kobe Bryant and 2015 MVP, Stephen Curry.

Part of what drove him to sudden stardom was his status as the greatest-ever Asian-American basketball player, which both made his story resonate and also inspired some moronic tokenizing. Lin went on teammate Randy Foye’s podcast today and spoke about his experiences playing for Harvard, trying to make the NBA, and being taunted with racial slurs. He said that crowds in college were much worse than the NBA. As he said, “It’s all students and they’re all drunk.”

The worst was at Cornell, when I was being called a “chink.” That’s when it happened.

[...]

I ended up playing terrible and getting a couple of charges and doing real out-of-character stuff ... I didn’t say anything because when that stuff happens, I kind of just, I go and bottle up where I go into turtle mode and don’t say anything and just internalize everything. Lin also said Yale fans mocked him and joked that he wouldn’t be able to see the scoreboard “with those eyes.” During a game in Vermont, he said that the opposing team’s coach once complained about him to an official and called him “that Oriental.” Lin did note that while he still hears denigrating remarks in the NBA, fans are much more well behaved. When Linsanity was at its peak, Lin says he never fully appreciated the unique position he was in because the pressure was so intense. Now that he’s settled into NBA life, he’s honored:

And now when I say badge of honor, it’s like, this is cool, I rep for all the Asians, I rep for all the Harvard dudes, I rep for the Cali guys, I rep for the underdogs. I take pride in it. It is not a burden to me anymore. I am not scared anymore. I appreciate it and want to help and challenge the world, stereotypes and everything. Back then, I didn’t understand it; and it came so fast, I didn’t really know what was going on.

Yes, he's very handsome. I find a lot of Asian men attractive, and was fuckbuddies with a few. As a black man, I couldn't care less about his hair, since I've seen Asians, especially the Japanese have been wearing dreadlocks and cornrows for quite awhile now. I grew up in Southern California around a lot of Asians, and a lot of them adapted elements from Black culture, so his hairstyle didn't unnerve me the same way it would others.
