Some sources say pneumonia and bronchitis. I've also read heroin on other sites. So sad. She lays in Jesus' blessed arms now.

A lot of people bitch that Christina wouldn't grow up to be Rosie, because teenage Roberta was thin and athletic, but I don't think it's unbelievable that she became less active when she went to medical school and packed on the pounds. I went to school with a few people (male and female) who were thin in high school but gained weight by their 30s. It happens all the time, especially if people get a sedentary job or one that doesn't leave time for the gym or other activities (like a doctor), and if their metabolism slowed down in adulthood. IMO Christina and Rosie have similar enough facial features to pass off as before and after.

I remember when this movie came out in 1995 (wow, it's been 20 years). It was featured in my Disney Adventures magazine, which I got monthly. There was an interview with Devon Sawa (sigh) and he discussed the skinny-dipping scene, when The Wormers (the all-brother rivals) went swimming and the girls stole their clothes, so they had to chase after them. Sawa said that all the mothers were present and took pictures and everyone had a laugh. I don't think that would fly today, especially since the boys were underage (8-16) and they were fully nude, save for covering their privates with their hands, and you saw bare bums.

Rosie O'Donnell did a funny bit in her stand-up routine about making the movie before she got her daytime talk show.

R18 Not much else to tell really apart that she grew up in the Canadian fishing town Steveston and through her drug addiction she pretty much alienated everybody. Most of her bio is out there already. I just wish places like IMDB wouldn't lie and list pneumonia and bronchitis when her death was sadly an overdose. I know her mom must be upset but it doesn't help when you BS and lie and try to make the deceased some sort of angel.

Demi Moore doesn't look so good these days either. She looked great up until a couple of years ago but then finally went overboard with all the cosmetic enhancements. She'd look much better if she gained some weight.

Okay, this is tabloid gossip...but I read she alienated her kids because she went overboard marose/kvetchy/neurotic when Ashton Kutcher left her. Maybe they shipped her off to rehab (?)

The thing is all these girls grew up to look like themselves but older. All the faces are the same. Christina Ricci still looks like Christina Ricci. The face would not just magically morph into Rosie O’Donnell’s.

I saw the movie in theaters as a kid and then a bunch of times on cable and I always wondered why they didn't get a well known child star for the young Chrissy part. Ashleigh Aston Moore did another kids movie with Christina Ricci after Now and Then.. It was called Gold Diggers and Ashleight had a supporting role while Christina and Anna Chlumsky were the leads. That movie flopped pretty bad and didn't get a cult following like Now and Then did. Ashleigh never got a big break and headed back to Canada.

There’s a blast from the last. I loved this movie as a tween. I watched it so much my VHS tape snapped, probably from rewinding and pausing the skinny dipping scene. I haven’t seen it in over a decade but I remember thinking Melanie pulling up in the white limo, in the white suit was the most glamorous thing in the world. My own parents were split up and I loved the scene between Thora and Gaby in the treee house.

A friend of hers wrote an article for patheos. The friend talked about Ashley's drug use and how she told people she had lupus. However, the friend doesn't believe that and said that she lied about a lot of things. The friend claims that and another friend questioned the coroner and that coroner said the death was due pneumonia and that Ashley's immune system was a mess because of drug use. Something about the friend's article gives me a shady vibe. Ashley's family probably wanted things covered up.

I had a worn out a VHS tape too as a kid. A couple of years ago, I was in a Walgreens and they had one of those $5 DVD bins and copies of Now and Then were in there. I bought a copy and watched it that night. As an adult, I saw how well casted the minor roles were like Janeane Garofalo as the psychic waitress, Cloris Leachman as the annoying grandma, Hank Azaria as the try too hard boyfriend, and Brendan Fraser as the hippie guy.

I remember it as Adult Chrissy's line, something along the lines of "At least I'm not living in sin with my boyfriend *turns to Demi* or wearing all black."

Is "Mrs. Hanks" as dumb as she looks? She has the same vacant look as Princess "Bush Baby" Beatrice, though not quite THAT bad.

Something like that might still happen. This article from last August mentions Marlene King wanting to do some kind of modern version. I wouldn't put it past her to try to get some kind of TV show sequel about Chrissy's daughter.

It must have sucked for cute little Christina Ricci to learn that people thought she could grow into Rosie O. That would give anyone insecurities.

I thought Gaby Hoffman would grow up to be really gorgeous. And Anna Chlumsky too. But I guess they didnt care much about going Hollywood, its not like they starved themselves or did plastic surgery.

Anna Chlumsky is a tad better looking than Gaby Hoffmann. There are some pics of Anna where she looks good because her hair and makeup are styled well. I have noticed a few other child actresses from the 90s like Mara Wilson and Tina Majorino grew up to be awkward looking despite being cute little girls. Elisabeth Moss also acted as a child. In some projects and clips of her child actor days, she looks odd and other times she looked cute and pretty.

Yeah, a few innocent bare bums isn't considered a big deal in European film, but it would be a bigger issue in an American film today.

They changed her character from lesbian to straight but they didn’t change Melanie’s line. It was supposed to reference her gayness so yes, she’s a homophobe.
