Personally, I wold have watched Buck Rogers, and then it was time for bed.

by Anonymousreply 3October 8, 2015 9:05 PM

Thursday TV sucked that year.

by Anonymousreply 4October 8, 2015 9:14 PM

I would be watching Buck Rogers hoping for him to take his shirt off.

by Anonymousreply 5October 8, 2015 9:43 PM
I would be watching Buck Rogers hoping for him to take his shirt off.

I would be watching Buck Rogers, hoping for him take his shirt off as well.

Only 'Buck Rogers' would be dancing at Buzzby's or N'Touch on Polk St, and I'd be leaning up against the wall in my tight Brittania jeans and madras shirt, open to the navel, graciously accepting drinks from handsome men, trying to decide which one to go home with.

I don't think my TV was even turned on in1979

Here you go, R5.

By spring, Laverne and Shirley were replaced by Mork and Mindy.

The Waltons were replaced by Palmerstown, U.S.A.

Soap was replaced by The Ssociates

Quincy was replaced by The Rockford Files

by Anonymousreply 8October 8, 2015 9:52 PM

8:00 was a VERY easy choice.

No kidding, R9.

Did people in Central or Mountain time go to bed and go to work or school earlier than those of us on the West coast?

by Anonymousreply 11October 8, 2015 10:57 PM

The only ones of those shows I watched was Laverne and Shirley and The Waltons. Not sure if I was watching either by 1979, though.

by Anonymousreply 12October 8, 2015 11:14 PM
CBS - Hawaii 5-0

With "special guest star" Robert Reed

by Anonymousreply 13October 8, 2015 11:19 PM

Ooohhh, Arlene Golonka is going to be on Johnny tonight!

by Anonymousreply 14October 8, 2015 11:21 PM

I watched Buck Rogers too, for the ogling. But what a crappy show it was.

by Anonymousreply 15October 8, 2015 11:27 PM

What market was that TV guide for?

LA? The channels are mostly like I remember for NYC but then there's channel 30, and none of the NY uhf channels.

by Anonymousreply 16October 8, 2015 11:32 PM
Ooohhh, Arlene Golonka is going to be on Johnny tonight!

The queen of the guest stars on Mary Tyler Moore. Of course, Valerie Harper's husband was the king.

by Anonymousreply 17October 8, 2015 11:34 PM

Might be Chicago. Prime Time appears to be Central Time

by Anonymousreply 18October 8, 2015 11:35 PM

Hold on, I'm dumb -- KPLR, so St Louis.

by Anonymousreply 19October 8, 2015 11:36 PM

I was just about to say it couldn't be Chicago, because 2 was CBS and 11 was PBS.

by Anonymousreply 20October 8, 2015 11:37 PM

I was 9, so, yeah, Buck Rogers. Then I'd watch Quincy with Mom. Then bed.

by Anonymousreply 21October 8, 2015 11:39 PM

And, yes, Kate the Detective was a re-working of Mrs. Columbo; from Wikipedia:

Due to the negative critical and public reaction to the show, the producers made changes to Mrs. Columbo almost immediately. The spin-off was renamed Kate Columbo, followed by Kate the Detective, and finally Kate Loves a Mystery. The main character was likewise renamed "Kate Callahan"; all references to and ties with the original Columbo show were dropped. After this, a reference was made in the show to Kate's divorce: the character was no longer Mrs. Columbo nor was she meant to have any connection with him at all.

by Anonymousreply 22October 8, 2015 11:42 PM

If you could go back to Oct. 1979, but you had to relive your whole life up to this point, would you?

by Anonymousreply 23October 8, 2015 11:43 PM
With "special guest star" Robert Reed

Laverne and Shirley had Ed Begley Jr. as Shirley's brother. Also featuring Lynne Marie Stewart (who was Miss Yvonne on Pee Wee's Playhouse). But that episode sounds like a real downer.

by Anonymousreply 24October 8, 2015 11:43 PM

By the way, wouldn't Kate Mulgrew have been too young to be Columbo's wife? There's a 28 year difference between Mulgrew and Peter Falk. My impression from Columbo was that his wife was pretty close to him in age.

God I miss 70s TV.

Let's see what's on this Saturday 8-10PM:

ABC: NCAA Football Miami vs. Florida State

NBC: NASCAR Auto Racing Bank of America 500

CBS: 8PM--Scorpion 9PM--Criminal Minds 10PM--48 Hours (N)

by Anonymousreply 26October 8, 2015 11:49 PM

Speaking of Buck Rogers, I just saw his son on some weird Christian TV show with his mother Connie Sellecca and his stepfather John Tesh. He is very good looking.

by Anonymousreply 27October 9, 2015 12:13 AM
God I miss 70s TV. Let's see what's on this Saturday 8-10PM:

In the 70s you could watch CHiPs *and* The Love Boat on a Saturday night.

How bad was the TV show "The Bad News Bears" that TV Guide wouldn't even write up a little show summary for it?

Doesn't anyone want to watch skunk-haired Della Reese on "Cross Wits" at 8:30?

by Anonymousreply 29October 9, 2015 4:20 AM

The Bad News Bears was bad R28, it was bad.

by Anonymousreply 30October 9, 2015 2:33 PM

I was all about Quincy. Yet I never got into CSI.

by Anonymousreply 31October 9, 2015 2:49 PM

Yay Buzzby's on Polk. Truly Good Times!!!

by Anonymousreply 32October 9, 2015 3:16 PM

Wasn't Jodie Foster in the TV "Bears"?

by Anonymousreply 33October 9, 2015 3:37 PM

Thank you Col Wilma!

by Anonymousreply 34October 9, 2015 3:37 PM

Tricia Cast, not Jodie Foster; some interesting names among the child actors in The Bad News Bears:

Barbizon... Be a model or just look like one!

by Anonymousreply 36October 9, 2015 3:48 PM

R33, I think you're thinking of the television spinoff of "Paper Moon." Jodi played Tatum O'Neill's character in the short-lived series.

by Anonymousreply 37October 9, 2015 3:52 PM

Me too R31.

by Anonymousreply 38October 9, 2015 4:04 PM

I remember everybody in my high school talking about Mork & Mindy the next day after it first aired. It was a big deal.

by Anonymousreply 39October 9, 2015 4:24 PM

The pic at r10 should be titled "Beauty and the Beast" (Jaclyn Smith and Penny Marshall).

by Anonymousreply 40October 9, 2015 4:42 PM

R39, even as a little kid, I hated Mork and Mindy. God bless Robin Williams, but his humor never appealed to me. I was beginning to hate Happy Days and all of its juvenile spin-offs at an early age. Too bad, because the first two seasons of Happy Days was quality television before the Fonz became more powerful than Superman, Spider-Man and the Hulk combined.

by Anonymousreply 41October 9, 2015 4:47 PM

7:30pm Wild Kingdom with Marlon Perkins

by Anonymousreply 42October 9, 2015 5:06 PM

You look different, John-Boy.

by Anonymousreply 43October 9, 2015 5:36 PM

Quincy is on every weekday morning on MeTV.

by Anonymousreply 44October 9, 2015 5:42 PM

It's amazing how many of us were "inspired" by Buck Roger's chest. I was seven, and it definitely inspired my admiration for hairy chests.

by Anonymousreply 45October 9, 2015 5:49 PM

Yes R45 the best episode was when Buck was put on the auction block and had his shirt ripped off!

by Anonymousreply 46October 9, 2015 7:24 PM

I'll start the biding at 2000.

Why did I ever listen to Fred Berry and join him on his strike?

by Anonymousreply 48October 9, 2015 8:23 PM

You didn't Haywood/R48, that was me.

by Anonymousreply 49October 9, 2015 9:35 PM

Yes! Thank you R47 I knew I remembered that correctly.

by Anonymousreply 50October 10, 2015 1:13 AM

Is that an ad for the Barbazon school of modeling?

I don't mean to name drop but my aunt is a graduate.

by Anonymousreply 51October 10, 2015 1:24 AM

How do you think [bold]I[/bold] felt, R49? Not only did they cancel your show, they cancelled the other two shows I had on ABC as well. They never would have done that if Fred Silverman hadn't bolted for NBC.

by Anonymousreply 52October 10, 2015 2:00 AM

I wouldn't be born for another 8 years.

by Anonymousreply 53October 10, 2015 2:18 AM

What in hell possessed ABC to trade time slots with my show and [italic]Laverne & Shirley[/italic]? I was in fifth place last season!

by Anonymousreply 54October 10, 2015 2:26 AM

R6, your TV may not have been turned on 1979 but I'm sure that all who beheld you in your form fitting ensemble of Britannia jeans and unbuttoned madras shirt were!

by Anonymousreply 55October 18, 2015 9:48 PM

It's amazing what kind of people were considered "fuckable" way back then.

by Anonymousreply 56October 18, 2015 10:02 PM

It's amazing what's considered fuckable now too, R56.
