Cher has said in interviews that she and her close friends are like the Golden Girls.

Cher's sister GeorgeAnn is Sophia
Angie (another close friend) is Blanche
They even have matching PJs and robes with their character's named embrodiered on them.

Me as Phyllis Hammerow, Miami's answer to Me.
I did it in The Hours, I could do it here too.

Barbara Parkins is in.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | October 5, 2015 2:18 AM |
I would love to watch Barbra's interpretation of Blanche. She has done southern before with Hello Dolly! But of course she would only have to sit on the one side of the table. Liza as Trudy would be fantastic, and would end with all the girls doing a fabulous production number at the High School reunion party.
Elton John would make a better Coco.

Ted Danson as Miles.

Christine Lahti as Dorothy (she's 5'10"!)
Kim Basinger as Blanche
Geena Davis as Rose

BUMP for more dream casting of the GG movie!
James Wolk as junior cop spying on the next door neighbors.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | October 6, 2015 4:55 PM |
I always thought you could stick the First Wives Club or 9 to 5 casts in here pretty easily.
Bette Midler as Dorothy Goldie Hawn as Blanche Diane Keaton as Rose
Or, Lily Tomlin as Dorothy Dolly Parton as Blanche Jane Fonda as Rose (although she could make a great Blanche, too)
And, I don't know, Valerie Harper as Sophia? They were always such sound alikes. Dan Hedaya as Sal. Trying to think of a good Stan - who's a lovable yutz?
by Anonymous | reply 17 | October 6, 2015 5:03 PM |
Stanley Tucci as Stan.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | October 6, 2015 5:06 PM |
Just take the Hot in Cleveland quartet and give them GG scripts.
Wendie Malick - Blanche
Jane Leeves - Dorothy
Valerie Bertinelli - Rose
Betty White - Sophia

OT... anyone remember the episode where Blanche's husband's illegitimate son comes to town?
Have we talked about his massive bulge and ass yet?
by Anonymous | reply 20 | October 8, 2015 12:29 AM |
Oh, shit. Who knew George's bastard son was Paul Young from Desperate Housewives?
by Anonymous | reply 21 | October 8, 2015 12:31 AM |
The bastard son's bulge...hmmm But I digress! I think Midler would be great as Blanche, tarty but on her own terms (that's probably on Midler's calling card!) Haven't seen anyone who could match Bea Arthur's delivery, there was only one Bea! I think Dame Judi could easily pull off Sophia. And for Rose? who cares, she wasn't funny. and Diana Ross?? Common...seriously?!
by Anonymous | reply 22 | October 8, 2015 1:41 AM |
Dorothy.....Kate Jackson
Blanche.....Jacklyn Smith
Rose......Cheryl Ladd
Sophia......Joyce Bulifant

Why are ElderGayz obsessed with this show?
I've seen it in reruns and it's funny but not groundbreaking or anything.
Splain?
by Anonymous | reply 24 | January 3, 2016 6:46 AM |
Dorothy - Anjelica Huston
Rose - Goldie Hawn
Blanche - Jessica Lange
Sophia - Olympia Dukakis
by Anonymous | reply 25 | January 3, 2016 1:19 PM |
Rose Nylund wouldn't have a biracial daughter in a remake. St. Olaf doesn't allow interracial marriages.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | January 3, 2016 1:50 PM |
The only way I'd even acknowledge OP's absurd idea of a reboot is if this were the cast:
Dorothy: Julie Andrews
Sophia: Angela Lansbury
Rose: Helen Reddy
Blanche: Lesley Ann Warren
by Anonymous | reply 27 | January 3, 2016 1:52 PM |
Who should play that anti-Semite bitch Barbara Thorndyke in the remake?
by Anonymous | reply 28 | January 3, 2016 2:03 PM |
R28: How about Vanessa Redgrave? Won't be a stretch for her.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | January 3, 2016 2:15 PM |
Oh please
by Anonymous | reply 30 | January 3, 2016 2:31 PM |
Melissa McCarthy or Aidy Bryant could play Blanche's fat daughter in the remake. Also who could play Blanche's slutty niece Lucy? Maybe real life whore Whitney Cummings.

And when she becomes a skinny redhead, I'm still available.

Octavia Spencer as the older black woman that Dorothy's son marries.

If this was for for stage or television, I think G would be perfect as Dorothy.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | January 3, 2016 2:53 PM |
Mary Steenburgen as Blanche's sister Charmaine.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | January 3, 2016 3:00 PM |
Kiernan Shipka as the pregnant teen Mary that is taken by the Golden Girls
Rico Rodriguez as the immigrant boy who is also Dorothy's student

Can't recreate or improve upon the original. Stop it now.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | January 3, 2016 3:48 PM |
If Caitlyn played Dorothy she could use Bea's original wardrobe.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | January 3, 2016 6:28 PM |
Some choices for Rose = Dawn Wells, Georgia Engel & my personal fav Dolly Parton who seems to be surprising similar to Rose in many ways:small town stories, perceived innocence & hides her true hair at all times.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | January 3, 2016 7:38 PM |
Dolly could never play ditzy or dumb.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | January 3, 2016 7:40 PM |
Joan Collins as Barbara Thorndyke. Because nobody plays "cunty" better than Joan Collins.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | January 4, 2016 1:22 PM |
The only actress that comes to mind (other than the younger 50's actress that played young Dorothy) is Geena Davis. She has the height, smarts, comedic chops & with her plastic surgery changes to her face I can easily see her sitting home on a Saturday night without a date. She's a perfect name for the role.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | January 4, 2016 9:53 PM |
[quote]Maybe real life whore Jennifer Lawrence.
Fixed that for you.

Miss Ross does not participate in ensemble projects. Miss Ross is the only star in any movie she appears. For future reference, please do not look directly at Miss Ross when you see her, and when you are dismissed from her presence always bow repeatedly while backing out of the room. Thankyouverymuch!

Elliot Gould as Stan is a great call. Not so sure about these others.
Maybe Holland Taylor as Barbara Thorndyke?
