The most putrid, pathetic excuse for popular music since disco. Not as vile and unlistenable as gangsta rap, but certainly nothing to have in your music library.

What about Ofra Haza? Too bad she died of AIDS. Loved her track Galbi. Used to dance to it at the Palladium in NYC.

the dates given don't match the list of stars... some of those were well past their hit years.

by Anonymousreply 10October 3, 2015 9:48 PM

all of those artists were doing "dance pop" in the late 80's and early 90's.

It's too immature and cheesy. What grown man would listen to 80's Madonna or Debbie Gibson?

Donna's always been my favorite diva, and she did have dance-pop success with her collaboration with SAW in 1989. I wish she'd capitalized more on the house music trend at the time. Her next album was mostly New Jack Swing, a style which hasn't aged well. There is one house track though, What Is It You Want. She does all the crazy voices and I think it proves she could've given Martha Wash and Loleatta Holloway a run for their money as wailing house divas, if she'd focused on it. She did collaborate with C&C Music Factory next, knowing that was the direction for her. But an album never came to fruition because one of the C's was dying of AIDS. Donna said there are many demos with just her singing with one of them accompanying her on piano. Unfortunately her family doesn't seem intend on digging very deep into her vaults, even though she thought they were good enough to be released. One song from the C&C collaboration was recorded in 1994, "Melody of Love" and became a massive dance club hit, Billboard's Club Play Song of the Year.

I love Boy Krazy - PWL was stupid to let lead singer Johnna go. She's no longer singing, though.

Not sure R33. She had a song on the 90210 soundtrack then her label folded. She's on Facebook though with some "new music" due out soon.
