Creamy or Chunky?
...JIF or SKIPPY?
by Anonymous | reply 81 | April 30, 2020 1:09 AM |
Jif Natural Chunky. For some reason, the taste has always been better, more "peanutty" andand less sweet. Like comparing Coke and Pepsi, I think. My peanut butter, when I actually eat any, has to be chunky.

Jiff smooth, because...never mind.

Skippy, chunky and -- best ever! -- Honey Nut flavor.
Sadly, I've recently only been able to find the Honey Nut (if at all) in the creamy version.
Bring back crunchy Honey Nut!!!!!!!

I used to be a huge fan of Jif natural chunky. Even before that, for years both chunky Jif and creamy Jif were staples in our house. But after I tried a jar of Trader Joe's all natural chunky, I can't eat anything else. The difference is so huge it's unbelieveable. Now I'm no Trader Joe's fanatic not at all. I don't often find things I like there even though I know people who would never go anywhere else. I'm not like that. But their peanut butter and their Ginger Carrot muffins are to die for.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | September 29, 2015 3:24 PM |
Peanut Butter should be chunky. You should be able to tell it came from peanuts.
Trader Joes chunky peanut butter with chia and flax seeds is the best shit ever though.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | September 29, 2015 3:25 PM |
Jif smooth with raspberry jam on Wonder Bread. Haven't had one a years.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | September 29, 2015 3:35 PM |
Jif creamy. It's a no brainer. The roasted peanut taste is superior to Skrimbleshanks in every way.
If you like Skippy better than Jif you haven't tasted them side by side.
It's that simple.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | September 29, 2015 3:37 PM |
Jif creamy is so good it can be used as a sexual lubricant and doubly so if you enjoy a creamy peanutty felch...
by Anonymous | reply 13 | September 29, 2015 6:30 PM |
I remember when I preferred "creamy" peanut butter. I was a child at summer camp.
Then I learned better, as you think any adult would.

by Anonymous | reply 15 | September 29, 2015 6:42 PM |
I've never tried the one with flax seeds. My TJ's peanut butter is just peanuts. Chunky. Next time I need to re-supply I'll look for the one with Flax seeds.

I like either brand but it has to be creamy (or smooth).
I used to eat the chunky kind until one day I shit a Snickers bar.
No more. Peanuts don’t digest.

We make our own peanut butter out of our own peanuts. We keep just a couple acres but it's enough for our own supplies, and the difference in quality really makes all the difference. We use about 40% of our crop on butter - it takes well over 500 peanuts per our 10 oz. jars (smaller jars make it easier to keep fresh).
Sorry you're reduced to Jif and Skippy (and Peter Pan). It's generally known among makers that if you have to use a popular commercial brand, Jif Creamy is the best of a rather bad lot.

R6 Really, on bologna sandwiches? I'm gonna try it. I love grape jelly on lunch meat so am eager to try this. Maybe a PB&J with lunch meat in the middle?

In New England, there is peanut butter brand named Teddys that is the best by a wide margin to me. Just beanies and some salt. Delicious!

Any peanut butter you have to stir is for yuppies.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | April 26, 2020 2:59 AM |
SKIPPY- super chunk - My grocery was all out this week in any size. They had JIF, but I hate it.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | April 26, 2020 3:34 AM |
R41, I use raw honey (we have hives) at 2 Tbs honey per 1000 grams of ground peanuts for sweeter (people getting gifts seem to like it sweeter) and 1 Tbs for home use, or none for our baking supply. For some I keep skins on, for some off. I do smooth and "crunchy," the former less smooth than commercial - my preference - and the latter just has added chopped peanuts. A small bit of salt gives a better flavor but I don't add any for the baking supply. A bit of peanut oil (purchased) sometimes is needed because of dryer nuts (Mary!).
No you know more than you probably wanted to know.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | April 26, 2020 3:59 AM |
Skippy Creamy. Everytime I use Jif, there's a disgusting layer of oil on the peanut butter. Which is why, I say, choosy dads choose Skippy.

Has anyone ever tried the peanut butter at Hell's Kitchen in downtown Minneapolis? They use Spanish peanuts, salt, sugar, and honey so it's pretty sweet but delicious.
I've always been a creamy Jif fan but lately have been getting the "all natural" to skip the sugar, either Smucker's or the store brand. I will try Trader Joe's the next time I'm there.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | April 27, 2020 9:52 PM |
Peter Pan smooth. Jif will do as a substitute, but it must be smooth.
People who claim that "natural" organic, homemade, low-sugar or low-salt tastes more like peanuts completely miss the point. If I want peanuts, I'll eat peanuts. Peanut butter is supposed to taste like peanut butter. Peanut butter should taste like the kind you ate as a kid, which for children with normal upbringings was mass-market PB. Salty, sweet, oily, peanut-y, in that order.
Otherwise, why bother?

You can buy Teddie's with or w/o salt, chunky or smooth, and it contains no hydrogenated oils, no added sugar, mono and diglycerides or any other additives. I like the sans salt chunky version and have been using it for many years.

by Anonymous | reply 65 | April 28, 2020 4:33 PM |
Jif -- it has honey added and is therefore a little sweeter than other brands. I used to prefer chunky to smooth but then the chunky version was replaced by extra chunky, which is too dry. So I switched to smooth, which took some getting used to but it's OK now. I don't remember what brand my mother bought when I was a kid, probably the cheapest. I do remember Annette Funicello being the spokesperson for one brand, but not which one -- I see on Wikipedia that her brand was Skippy.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | April 28, 2020 4:37 PM |
Neither. I go to the health food store where they have a peanut grinder loaded with peanuts above. There's nothing better than fresh peanut butter with no preservatives or added sugar.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | April 28, 2020 4:41 PM |
One would think so, R67, but JIF is still better.

r68 Jif (at least the regular kind) does not contain any honey.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | April 28, 2020 6:14 PM |
Butter is not to be "chunky" . It's butter, therefore it is smooth.
by Anonymous | reply 73 | April 28, 2020 6:39 PM |
Jif only! Love their honey infused version, either creamy or crunchy
by Anonymous | reply 74 | April 28, 2020 7:15 PM |
R72, you may be right that regular Jif doesn't contain honey (I assume you've read the ingredients list on the label, which I haven't done), but my husband believed that honey had been added and that Jif was therefore sweeter than any other peanut butter. I never saw any reason to doubt him or argue about it, so that's the brand we always bought and I do like it. Now that he's gone, I still buy Jif out of habit and I might feel as if I were dishonoring his memory to use anything else.
