The Appeal of Older Men?

It would depend on the 40 plus year old guy I guess. You can probably chalk it up to some 40+ gay men taking better care of themselves these days and of course the twinks who have daddy issues.

I do take care of myself, In fact, I look ten years younger. (Joking!)

I want to set a couple of my regular young 'uns up and watch them go at it. Like watching Sean Cody but without all the hassle of MyVidster.

I don't think 40/plus year-olds act the same now as 40/plus year-olds did 30-40 years ago. Also, thanks to social media, I think people of all ages tend to mingle a bit more, so maybe 20 somethings simply feel more comfortable these days socializing with various age brackets.

Finally, if you met a 55 year-old several decades ago there'd be a good chance he'd be a grandfather. Now, he may be a new father or childless, so a 55 year-old of today is in a younger mind-frame/life-stage.

Oh, and perhaps Mad Men made the older man more appealing to today's masses.

I'm a straight woman (45 )and this also started happening to me around the time I turned 40. Lots of straight guys looking for "cougars". Not sure if the guys are being influenced by the porn they watch or if the porn is being produced to satisfy a big demand from younger guys. Either way, I hate the word "cougar" but it is kind of flattering even though I'm not generally interested in much younger men.

Interesting R5. Men are much more visually stimulated and I feel if I'm going to have recreational sex, I'd rather it be with someone with hard abs and a perma-boner. Are you here because you like chatting on DL or are you one of the fangirl crew?

R6. I'm also very visual and love great sex (who doesn't?) but have found younger men don't have the same knowledge of women's sexuality or the sexual skills that men who are a little older have. Rock hard abs are definitely appealing but I'll take a nice-looking, reasonable fit , 40 ish guy who knows what he's doing over a hot and sexy young thing any day. 5 years older or younger is usually my ideal range. Truth be told... I'm much better in bed now than I was when I was younger, if I do say so myself. :) Besides the visual aspect, do you find younger men as good in bed as ones a little older?

I've been reading DL for years and occasionally post. I love the wit, the insight, the randomness and especially the on-going jokes - shitty little Ann, pron, and always think of "Lens" Dunham when I read something about her...Lena just looks odd to me at this point. I've always had gay friends, even as a young girl. My best friend since first grade was (and still is) gay before either one of us even knew what it meant. I just knew that he was smart, kind, loyal, sophisticated (for a kid in the mid-west) and had a biting wit that I loved even as a child. I'm still drawn to those qualities. I liked older men 35 and up, when I was young, Now I'm older (47) and I still prefer guys 35 and up.

I've always been attracted to guys at least a decade older than me. It started as a kid when I had a crush on my brother's best friend, then when I was a teenager I thought men in their thirties were the most attractive and now that I'm thirty I like guys in their forties. I don't know if I'm really going to ogle guys in their sixties when I'm fifty but right now even early, well-maintained fifty year olds look good to me.
