He should be able to commit to his major/program, and get his used textbooks sold without a significant loss.

R9 what do you think a 20 something person should be able to do? I agree that those are low standards.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | September 29, 2015 3:24 AM |
Oh poor confused mentally ill PMBT. In much of the world, 20something are married, with kids, running their households, balancing their budgets and holding down full-time jobs.
The fact that your parents have infantilized you by taking away your power to make decisions is tragic.

Someone in their early twenties should be able to live on his own and be a fully functioning adult without needing the support or assistance of family.
1. Hold a job and maintain a home
2. Manage personal finances
3. Do laundry
4. Grocery shop and cook basic foods
5. Dress appropriately for specific occasions
6. Basic housekeeping and cleaning
7. Change a flat tire (if you drive a car regularly)

Live for an entire day without looking at his phone.
Know how to walk on a sidewalk without running into other people.
Learn how to start a sentence with any word other than "I".
Learn who to listen to someone else's experience without simply waiting to insert your own barely relevant experience.
Know that three drinks is always enough.
Know when to leave a party.
Know how to cook a basic meal.
Learn how to entertain houseguests and overnight dates.

Never argue with crazy. Nobody ever wins, but crazy enjoys the fight.

If you were early 20's around 30-odd years ago you would have learned to: graduate, masters, wife, 2 kids, first professional positions, 2 houses (this would be my straight brother.)(if you were me, you would have learned to start manipulating relatives so you could live with them and do jack shit while you pursued a career in theatre
If you were early 20's now: walk and talk. If you're lucky.

“A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly.
Specialization is for insects.”
