Why would I suddenly have an acne outbreak at age 48?

I had acne as a teenager, but since my early 20s not really much of a problem. Recently I've had a few zits on my face, which is unusual, but they've been healing. But suddenly this evening I discovered I've got a boil on my shoulder. What could be happening? I've not changed my diet or my routine or anything.

Welcome to old age OP.

Skin ulcers are a sign of secondary and tertiary stages of both syph and gonnor. See your doctor.

by Anonymousreply 2September 25, 2015 4:56 AM

Are you a MTF trans? If so, you could be pregnant. Well?

by Anonymousreply 3September 25, 2015 5:03 AM

Bad reaction to all those years of using the cheap duct tape to tuck your junk during those drag shows. Your body is desperately trying to purge the buildup of toxins.

by Anonymousreply 4September 25, 2015 5:07 AM

Have you been masturbating again?!

by Anonymousreply 5September 25, 2015 6:15 AM

Wash your face, OP. You sound filthy.

by Anonymousreply 6August 27, 2020 3:03 PM

Well now you can tell people that you’re 48 but because you have acne, you look like a teenager.

by Anonymousreply 7August 27, 2020 3:07 PM

Stress can cause boils.

by Anonymousreply 8August 27, 2020 3:09 PM

Can I have your stuff?

by Anonymousreply 9August 27, 2020 3:09 PM

Adult Onset Anne is usually hormonal if you do not have an underlying medical condition.

by Anonymousreply 10August 27, 2020 3:12 PM

Adult onset acne can be extra awful

by Anonymousreply 11August 27, 2020 3:14 PM

Menopause, OP!

by Anonymousreply 12August 27, 2020 3:15 PM

I get them on my ass from time to time. No big deal.

by Anonymousreply 13August 27, 2020 3:16 PM

Hormones, stress, diet, lack of quality sleep, soap or shampoo.

by Anonymousreply 14August 27, 2020 3:16 PM

Get a facial at least once a month. Stop washing your face so much and never ever use a "scrub" on it. Go easy on your face.

by Anonymousreply 15August 27, 2020 3:20 PM

Use sulfur soap. It will clear everything up - you only smell a little bit. And then you don't need it anymore.

by Anonymousreply 16August 27, 2020 3:29 PM

Body chemistry changes with age, OP. I believe you when you say nothing has changed.

Although I would say if your routine has changed due to COVID there's a possibility that had an impact.

A boil can be stress related but is also bacterial in nature. You may want to consider using tea tree soap or Hibiclens to wash around your neck.

As for cleansers, I swear by this. I had a similar flare up about 5 years ago and started to use this and have had no problems since. You can use with a washcloth for a gentle cleanse, but maybe once a month get more of a coarse buff to do a bit of a scrub.

Cystic acne is different from teen acne, OP.

by Anonymousreply 18August 27, 2020 3:36 PM

DILL-free Cleanser? Why would they remove dill from it?

by Anonymousreply 19August 28, 2020 12:18 AM

Because they prefer the sweet gherkin flavor instead, Rose.

by Anonymousreply 20August 28, 2020 12:24 AM

Kill yourself.

It’s the only hope....for us

by Anonymousreply 21August 28, 2020 3:11 AM

Oddly I also get boils on my shoulder come spring every year. Sometimes the change in light and weather can do a number on your skin hormonally. Just go to the dermatologist and see. It normally clears up in autumn for me and the more active I become.

by Anonymousreply 22August 28, 2020 3:29 AM

Do you eat dairy? Dairy has bioidentical growth factors and female hormones estrogen and progesterone that can cause moobs along with acne

by Anonymousreply 23August 28, 2020 4:06 AM

I thought I had acne in my mid thirties but it was rosacea. Go see a doctor.

by Anonymousreply 24August 28, 2020 4:23 AM

I started having a lot of outbreaks esp my shaving area (my facial shaving area) and my chest around 50. My dermatologist prescribed some shampoos and cremes and antibiotics that didn't really work. I went for one more visit mostly to chew him out for wasting my time. However, that visit he had an intern with him, and when the older doc left the room he suggested Hibiclens (a heavy duty antimicrobial sold OTC). It worked completely within three weeks.

by Anonymousreply 25August 28, 2020 4:29 AM

you're dying 💔

by Anonymousreply 26August 28, 2020 4:33 AM

Manopause or chronic masturbation.

by Anonymousreply 27August 28, 2020 4:42 AM

Stop scrubbing!

by Anonymousreply 28August 28, 2020 4:42 AM

R17 is right. Now that I don't have the gym to use products, I bought Kiehls everything over quarantine. It's really easy and soothing on the skin.

by Anonymousreply 29August 28, 2020 4:46 AM

A boil is different from acne. You need antibiotics to clear it up.

by Anonymousreply 30August 28, 2020 4:59 AM

It could be AIDS

by Anonymousreply 31August 28, 2020 5:06 AM

Do you change weight classes quickly?

It’s usually a sign you’re going up or down a waist size or two.

by Anonymousreply 32August 28, 2020 5:22 AM

Because you're sheltering at home and not washing as much.

by Anonymousreply 33August 28, 2020 6:02 AM

Don't ask me!

by Anonymousreply 34August 28, 2020 6:10 AM

Ya ugly

by Anonymousreply 35August 28, 2020 6:12 AM

Get checked for diabetes. If your blood sugars run high, you can get infections easier. In the meantime try putting those hydrocolloid dots on your zits.

by Anonymousreply 36August 28, 2020 6:45 AM

Acne can set in at any age. Although less common in adults it happens even with folks in their 70s and science was not yet able to find out why it may set in later in life. . Don’t waste your money with over the count products or miraculous recipes from friends. Just visit a good dermatologist and he will ask for the right tests. If your acne is severe and there’s no underlying condition you will probably get a prescription for Isotretinoin. After 3 months you will get your flawless skin back to where it was.

by Anonymousreply 37August 28, 2020 7:04 AM

Menopause can do it. I get zits in weird places like the back of my knee, the top of my head, and places on my face where I never got them before like right on the cheek bone or under the chin.

You never know how much hormones matter until you lose them.

by Anonymousreply 38August 28, 2020 7:04 AM

As men get older there are often hormonal surges as they begin to slow down. Those surges cause this.

by Anonymousreply 39August 28, 2020 9:46 AM

R24 - Very good advice.

I have Rosacea but it is now under control. Adult Onset acne, cystic acne and Rosacea acne are not the same things.
