I Want To Open A Business, Can I Hire ONLY Good Looking People?

Thank You

by Anonymousreply 28August 19, 2020 7:09 PM

Sure, I wouldn't advertise that but you don't have to give anyone a reason why they weren't hired.

by Anonymousreply 1September 23, 2015 1:04 PM

Sure, if you are opening a modeling agency or an escort service, where the people ARE the products

by Anonymousreply 2September 23, 2015 1:11 PM

Only if you don't mind your clients/customers wondering why you're there.

by Anonymousreply 3September 23, 2015 1:28 PM

Why would they wonder why I am there? I am stunningly attractive.

by Anonymousreply 4September 23, 2015 1:31 PM

Just remember to include one sassy ethnic with a visable disability and you'll do fine.

by Anonymousreply 5September 23, 2015 1:46 PM

I don't know, "can" you?

by Anonymousreply 6September 23, 2015 2:04 PM

The thing is if you honestly wanted to do this do you actually think you would get just happen to get tons of good looking applicants for the positions? Odds are no.

by Anonymousreply 7September 23, 2015 2:15 PM

Then it wouldn't be ONLY good looking people.

by Anonymousreply 8September 23, 2015 2:20 PM

What a dull, vacuous, spiritually bankrupt little hobgoblin you are.

by Anonymousreply 9September 23, 2015 2:21 PM

Why not? I am good looking and pay excellent wages and benefits. Just because you are ugly don't take it out on me.

by Anonymousreply 10September 23, 2015 2:21 PM

In this day and age good luck! You'd get called out on twitter, instagram have bitchy house fraus picketing your business not to mention crazed transsexuals issuing you death threats. You're also forgetting chocolate mamas and their ethnic following. Seeing as you're dumb enough to post it here you obviously lack the necessary capital to make an established business succeed without handouts and debt, so you would need support from the community. Seeing as the world is about 90 per cent fugly, you got no chance.

by Anonymousreply 11September 23, 2015 3:09 PM

As long as they are white, OP

by Anonymousreply 12September 23, 2015 4:05 PM

You'd have to do a lot of interviews to screen out the ugly ones, but, like R1 said, you can't advertise it.

by Anonymousreply 13September 23, 2015 4:10 PM

OP is obviously not good looking if he's obsessed with good-looking people. As a good-looking person myself, I could care less if I'm around a lot of good-looking people, been there done that. Although when in a group I hate being the only good-looking person, so much pressure!

by Anonymousreply 14September 23, 2015 4:14 PM

99% of hiring managers do this without asking OP. The ugly is what people become while working there.

by Anonymousreply 15September 23, 2015 4:21 PM

There was an article in Time Magazine, so it must have been ten plus years ago, about hotels in NYC that were only hiring attractive people. I think it was the W, but I don't remember.

by Anonymousreply 16September 23, 2015 4:47 PM

Yes, you can hire only good looking people. It would even be legal to advertise it, though probably not a good idea.

You can legally discriminate against anyone provided the reason isn't a protected class.

In the US federal law says everyone belongs to at least three "protected classes." Religion, Race and Nationality. A fourth which is probably protected under federal law is Sexual Orientation. The EEOC said it was but that is a rule and that rule has yet to be tested by the courts on a national level.

In addition age is a protected class IF you're over 40 only. In other words if you were 39 I could refuse to hire you. If you were 40, I could not. At least not based on age.

Another partially protected class is "Felony Conviction." You can no longer simply refuse to hire a felon. You must have a reason which is applicable to the position. For instance, if I conviction against stealing, you could refuse to hire me as a cashier based on my conviction. But you could not refuse to hire me as a dishwasher for instance.

Remember states and cities may add additional protected classes. For instance, Michigan has "overweight people" as a protected class. The only state to have that. Yes, that is correct, you can't legally not hire an overweight person in Michigan.

by Anonymousreply 17September 23, 2015 5:12 PM

No one seems to pay attention to the rules, though -- once quotas are met, it is a free for all of tribalism, nepotism, and merrily rejecting people even if they do fall into a protected class.

by Anonymousreply 18September 23, 2015 5:37 PM

No one speaks openly about "why" they don't hire someone anymore. In 30 years, I once heard a Taiwanese woman question whether a candidate was pregnant and our boss told her it was irrelevant and illegal to consider, otherwise I never heard anything questionable discussed about candidates, despite working for financial companies with very few African-Americans.

by Anonymousreply 19September 24, 2015 12:42 AM

Yes, and as long as you never say anyone deposable that this is what your'e doing, and as long as you don't mind not having the best workers, but rather the best looking workers.

by Anonymousreply 20September 24, 2015 12:51 AM

It's just a shop, you know....an E tailer at best.

"We create statement pieces to be worn while cradling mugs."

by Anonymousreply 21September 24, 2015 1:05 AM

You’re better off hiring one gargoyle and sticking her somewhere in case the EEOC rears its ugly head.

by Anonymousreply 22August 19, 2020 6:03 PM

Cancel the OP. She's a rag.

by Anonymousreply 23August 19, 2020 6:05 PM

What R7 said. You're going to have trouble finding them unless your paying far above market rate. And yes, it is legal. Hooters has won court cases regarding this.

by Anonymousreply 24August 19, 2020 6:19 PM

OP is Mike Jefferies

We all look 19 and incredibly hot here on Datalounge.

by Anonymousreply 26August 19, 2020 6:36 PM

If you're intelligent, and do it correctly, of course you can, but frankly, you don't seem smart enough to pull it off. Its done all the time. Is it reprehensible? That's for you to decide.

by Anonymousreply 27August 19, 2020 7:04 PM

Of COURSE, dahhling!!!

But you might have to weave in some token blacks and Asians between lawsuits.
