Hillary Clinton calls private email server "a mistake," says "I'm sorry"

Will this help her?

NY Times = Fox News

They can't tell a true story about Clinton if their paper depended on it.

by Anonymousreply 1September 9, 2015 12:05 AM

Yeah I totally believe she's sorry......

That she got caught.

by Anonymousreply 2September 9, 2015 12:11 AM

She's sorry her poll numbers are sinking

by Anonymousreply 3September 9, 2015 12:12 AM
NY Times = Fox News. They can't tell a true story about Clinton if their paper depended on it.

I'm a big Hillary fan, but that's just silly. The frontrunner is always going to get the most scrutiny. Secondly, if you'd actually bothered to read, you would have seen she said this in an interview with ABC News's chief heterosexual anchor David Muir and that the Times was merely reprinting her comments.

Anyway, not sure what to make of all this. Her campaign seemed to be a bit tone deaf in their refusal to believe that this supposed scandal was not going to affect voter perceptions about her. She is not the Teflon woman. Maybe this full apology should have happened weeks - even months ago - rather than dragging it out even further with non-apologies. FWIW, I personally think she has nothing to apologize for. But perception is sometimes reality and maybe she should have swallowed her pride so that she could put this behind her instead of letting it define her.

by Anonymousreply 4September 9, 2015 12:53 AM

Too little. Too late.

by Anonymousreply 5September 9, 2015 1:01 AM

The real reason for having the server is about prestige, power and influence, Unfortunately the Clinton need for this type of thing is their undoing.

Supported her last time. Cannot do it this time.

by Anonymousreply 6September 9, 2015 1:06 AM

It's spinelessness such as this that will propel Trump to the White House. For months she has refused to apologize, seemingly on principle. Now this pussified apology. Make up your mind, Hillary, and decide who you are. Shit like this makes Trump look decisive.

by Anonymousreply 7September 9, 2015 1:17 AM

It was clear from the moment the news about the server broke that it would sink her. She's always had too many negatives. The Democratic bench isn't deep, so this is a serious problem for the Dems. People need to start listening to me.

Draft Howard Dean (before it's too late)

by Anonymousreply 8September 9, 2015 3:42 AM

The advice for her to be so arrogantly dismissive of the charges was a huge blunder, and she needs to start throwing people under the bus. Her trust rating has collapsed to 28%.

by Anonymousreply 9September 9, 2015 5:48 AM

Charles Blow had a pretty good opinion piece in today's NYTimes. It began: "I must say that I’m starting to feel bad for Hillary Clinton. There is a sense surrounding her candidacy of building doom and imminent disaster." I don't feel bad for her, but I completely agree with the sense of doom and imminent disaster pervading her second presidential run.

by Anonymousreply 10September 11, 2015 2:52 AM

She should have done this from the outset. The "crime" itself is relatively minor. It's the coverup that's the problem.

by Anonymousreply 11September 11, 2015 3:00 AM

The "crime" itself wasn't a crime. It's difficult to do an effective cover up when you haven't committed a crime.

by Anonymousreply 12September 11, 2015 3:03 AM

R12, if she did nothing questionable, then why did she feel the need to destroy or otherwise conceal everything? She knows we live in the Surveillance Age. She is one of its biggest proponents. Why should we dismiss her need for secrecy as wholly innocent?

by Anonymousreply 13September 11, 2015 3:06 AM

Don't be so pedantic, R12. She has been shady about it from the get-go. It's not the cover-up, but the appearance of a cover-up that's the problem. How's that?

by Anonymousreply 14September 11, 2015 3:07 AM

The ABC interview was bullshit.

by Anonymousreply 15September 11, 2015 3:07 AM
Draft Howard Dean

Yes, or Liz Warren.

by Anonymousreply 16September 11, 2015 3:08 AM

R12, that's why I put crime in quotes. I thought it was pretty clear I don't feel it's an actual crime, more like a gaffe. FWIW, I will be voting for Clinton.

by Anonymousreply 17September 11, 2015 3:11 AM

I don't care about this at all and I don't know any real Democratic voters who do. I know Republicans who make much of it but since when do we care what they think? She can't breathe right as far as they're concerned, never could. They come online claiming to be Democratic voters and expressing their "concern" but it's easy to tell that they're lying and full of crap.

There are some fairly extreme leftists who aren't exactly Democratic voters but they'll vote for Bernie Sanders or Elizabeth Warren. They actually make up a pretty good chunk of the US population but they don't play much of a role in elections. Most of them aren't registered and don't vote. That isn't going to change in this election cycle. The leftists don't have the money and the organization it would take to have a viable leftist party, at least not at this time.

All in all - meh to this server email nonsense. Hillary's fine. She's our nominee, we don't want anyone else and we are by far the majority of Democratic voters.

By all means please proceed, Republicans, and nominate Mr. Trump.

by Anonymousreply 18September 11, 2015 3:18 AM

If she hasn't handled this well, over a year before the election is when to make missteps and learn from them. Kerry was on a freaking ski vacation for weeks, while he was being swiftboated, in the general election, and he said nothing. The truth is Hillary has plenty of time to course correct, there's going to be lots more "scandals" on both sides before the election's over, this is just the warm-up.

by Anonymousreply 19September 11, 2015 3:19 AM

"I do think I could have and should have done a better job answering questions earlier. I really didn’t perhaps appreciate the need to do that,” the democratic presidential candidate told Muir in an exclusive interview in New York City. "What I had done was allowed, it was above board. But in retrospect, as I look back at it now, even though it was allowed, I should have used two accounts. One for personal, one for work-related emails. That was a mistake. I’m sorry about that. I take responsibility.”

She is so shady. Even in the apology she refuses to acknowledge the heart of the issue. Everyone has separate email accounts; personal and business. But what she did is set up her own computer system - in her fucking house!

How many of you idiot apologists have servers in your house? How many of you accept jobs and then circumvent your employer by setting up your own computer system -in your fucking house? And then, when caught, say "Well, it says nothing in the Employee Guidebook about barring me from setting up my own email system thereby evading capture of all data I send and receive. Since it wasn't specifically forbidden I did nothing wrong!"

God you Clinton suckers are stupid.

by Anonymousreply 20September 11, 2015 3:37 AM

Sure thing, Freeptard @ R20, we're soooooo stupid. And yet we will elect Hillary Rodham Clinton our next President of the United States and there is fuck all that you can do to change that.

Sucks to be you.

by Anonymousreply 21September 11, 2015 3:52 AM
And yet we will elect Hillary Rodham Clinton our next President of the United States and there is fuck all that you can do to change that.

That's exactly why you are soooooooooooooooooooo stoooooooooopid R21.

by Anonymousreply 22September 11, 2015 3:57 AM

Most people don't have an idea what a private email server is, but they're willing to accept the idea that it's the worst thing since Beelzebub because that's what they read online. These are the people who shriek about how stupid the population is in the rural deep south, and yet they're just as gullible. And Vince Foster was murdered, etc.

"So, if we soften HRC up enough with the dimwitted left, we'll only have to run against Bernie Sanders. And just imagine how a few months of screeching SOCIALIST will play in the polls."

by Anonymousreply 23September 11, 2015 4:01 AM

She's not going to be elected, R21. If she gets the nomination, a Republican - Trump or not - will get it. People HATE her. Or only mildly loath her. She's a terrible candidate. Like - really, really bad. And I'm not a Republican, not by a long shot - I'm to the left of Sanders and Warren. She will not be the next president of the US, not ever. And if she gets the Democratic nomination, and then loses - and she WILL lose - it will be a very dark 8 years, as terrible or worse than the Bush years. The Supreme Court will become a reactionary, troglodyte institution for decades, and just as we really start to hit the effects of global warming (much much worse than 2015), the nutters will be in complete political control. Oh, and the neocons will be back for more wars. I keep praying that she'll drop out and give up her narcissistic quest.

by Anonymousreply 24September 11, 2015 4:02 AM

" And if she gets the Democratic nomination, and then loses - and she WILL lose - it will be a very dark 8 years, as terrible or worse than the Bush years"

If Democrats can't back someone with her strong liberal leanings--if they consistently believe the sort of patently false horseshit about HRC that the GOP and Bernie fangurls are pushing--then maybe they deserve to lose.

by Anonymousreply 25September 11, 2015 4:08 AM

She was so sorry about her private server that she made jokes about wiping it clean with a cloth and how she loves Snapchat since the messages just disappear.

I have mentioned this in other threads, don't forget that she and Bill were both against same sex marriage. How LGBT people can support her is beyond me. She's doing whatever it takes to get into office. She did it when she ran for Senator in NY. She campaigned in New York City and in that Hassidic Jewish town to guarantee their block vote. She ignored the people of the rest of the state. So many more LGBT people have an interest in voting now, so all of a sudden, she cares about our rights.

by Anonymousreply 26September 11, 2015 4:23 AM

I don't care about her emails. All I care about is equal rights and the ability for people willing to hold down a job to make enough to bit decent house, educations, food and clothes. Fox News talking points hold no fascination for this gay.

by Anonymousreply 27September 11, 2015 4:27 AM

"She's doing whatever it takes to get into office"

How unlike every other politician since the year one.

by Anonymousreply 28September 11, 2015 4:28 AM
I'm to the left of Sanders and Warren.

That tells us everything we need to know. 'That's fine, go with what you feel. But - we should pay attention to your assessment of a centrist Democratic candidate because...?

Hillary Clinton is the next president of the United States. I'm quite looking forward to it because I've always liked her, just as most Democratic voters I know have always liked her.

It's REPUBLICANS who hate her. It's REPUBLICANS who have been trash-talking her for 25 years. It's REPUBLICANS who know she will beat any one of their loser-candidates with both hands tied behind her back. No wonder they can't stop bitching about her. They think they can poison the well. Unfortunately for them, they've been trying to poison this particular well for 25 years and haven't managed it yet. We're vaccinated, dolls.

by Anonymousreply 29September 11, 2015 4:28 AM
The real reason for having the server is about prestige, power and influence...

Some of you weren't around in the 1990s: A special prosecuter was appointed to investigate if laws were broken related to something inconsequential about the Clintons, such as the firing of the White House travel office staff, or the already twenty year old Whitewater land deal. Whatever the original cause, the Presudent's adversaries used tens of millions of taxpayer dollars to investigate one inconsequential thing after another. At each turn, the prosecuter, Ken Starr, found nothing and then moved along into some other alleged scandal.

The Clinton's personal friend, Vince Foster, committed suicide. I think the "Starr Chanber" even investigated to see if Hillary personally shot him. The investigation got that vindictive, petty, and partisan. Anyway, after tens of millions of tax-payer dollars, years later, they discovered the President lied about a string of affairs, and impeached him for it.

The electorate was so disgusted by the Republican overreach, that Clinton's party picked-up seats in the second term midterm elections. Three Republican leaders and proponents of impeachment wound up resigning quickly due to corruption, or because they were found to be hypocrites who were hiding their own affairs while persecuting Clinton for his. The Republicans eventually elevated Dennis Hasteric to the Speakership, not knowing until 2014 that he was a pedophile.

Given all that history, of course Hillary did what those before her at State did, and setup her own server, as allowed by law and custom. It's not a scandal. Republicans are trying to make it into a scandal, using tax payer dollars again, but it's not a scandal. It was perfectly reasonable given the Republican history of using the bottomless pot of taxpayer money as a means of attacking her.

by Anonymousreply 30September 11, 2015 4:51 AM

R30, I bet Hillary would quake in her sensible shoes if the full truth about the firing of the White House travel staff became public knowledge.

We live in a world where Getting Away With It is often mistaken for Not Guilty.

by Anonymousreply 31September 11, 2015 5:09 AM

No, I don't want Joe Biden to run. He's too old.

by Anonymousreply 32September 11, 2015 5:16 AM

R31 is so full of shit I'm surprised she ever leaves the bathroom.

The firing of the travel staff was investigated FULLY. More than fully, actually, it was investigated to the point of extremism and madness. Everything about the Clintons was put under a microscope for years. You assholes blew your wad and found nothing. Bill Clinton is beloved all over the world and is the most popular living former POTUS in America.

Hillary took everything you threw at her and laughed in your stupid faces. She not only survived your endless witchhunts, she TRIUMPHED. She became a US Senator - twice. She ran for president and nearly beat President Obama. She became Secretary of State for four years.

Through it all, try and try and try as they might, the freepers and fools couldn't touch her. They never brought her down. She is tough as nails, smart as hell, more experienced than any other candidate in the race and she will blow through anyone and anything they throw at her like a combine through wheat.

Hillary Clinton is the next POTUS. Suck it, haters.

by Anonymousreply 33September 11, 2015 5:19 AM

Only the media, looking for a horse race, gives a shit. It was perfectly legal, but the insane NY Times pretends otherwise. Nonsense.

by Anonymousreply 34September 11, 2015 6:30 AM

If only she'd realize her campaign for president is a mistake and said "I'm Sorry." If she can't send an email properly, she is too stupid to be president.

by Anonymousreply 35September 11, 2015 9:16 AM

Silly Republican talking points are silly.

by Anonymousreply 36September 11, 2015 10:02 AM
don't forget that she and Bill were both against same sex marriage. How LGBT people can support her is beyond me.

I don't know how many times I've heard a typical right wing hack say this to anyone they perceive as gay, which is amusing because they still think they can drive a wedge between the gay community and the Clintons... you know, resorting to identity politics, or politics as usual among the informationally-challenged. So, once again, let me explain: when they were "against" gay marriage, it was very, very unpopular. The right was having conniption fits that there were dirty homosexuals who, after years and years of being told they were inferior because they lived a promiscuous lifestyle and weren't in committed relationships, said that the paradox of marriage while being gay had to end if that was the club that the right was going to use to batter them. In fact, the right was in such a state of panic that the numbers were starting to shift, and public acceptance of homosexuals was rising, that they seized on the issue and used it to turn out their base in droves. We've seen it over and over on the right: gin up fear of "the other" and then paint anyone who shows sympathy or empathy for that other as unqualified for public office. And those slack-jawed low information voters just eat it up, shaking their heads in unison.

So, yes, both Bill and Hillary publicly said that they support marriage as the right had redifined it for these political purposes, despite the fact that marriage has been more about property rights than anything else for millennia. What pisses the right off is that they did their best to permanently enshrine bigotry in the Constitution -- remember all the talk about a Constitutional amendment? -- and Bill triangulated their effort. He carved out a mushy center position with DOMA that took the issue away from the right and stopped the damage that would have been far, far more difficult to surmount. As the major pieces of legislation that DADT and DOMA were heralded on the right, they were about as short-lived as any in the history of our nation. And the best part is the same people who always bring up the Clinton's "shifting view" on marriage and how we should hold it against them are too stupid to realize that while the republicans are playing checkers, the Clintons are playing three-dimensional chess.

It really pisses off the right when they figure out, sometimes years later, that they were played. But go ahead, concern troll, freep away.

by Anonymousreply 37September 11, 2015 2:19 PM

R37 makes some excellent points.

If Rethuglicans think they can drive a wedge between Blacks and Democrats, or Latinos and Democrats, or Women and Democrats, or ANYONE and Democrats, they're wrong.

This election is not going to be a margins game. The Republicans have no one - NO ONE - not one decent fucking candidate in this race. Why don't you just save yourselves a billion dollars and concede the election before we wipe the floor with whatever turd you nominate?

by Anonymousreply 38September 11, 2015 5:57 PM

r37, yes Bill Clinton is a genius. He was so intelligent he made sure to cum all over Monica Lewinsky's blue gap dress to give the right wing haters something trivial to focus on while he played his 3D chess game.

by Anonymousreply 39September 11, 2015 6:58 PM

The Right[italic] has[/italic] to fuss about something. Imagine if they simply said nothing. It's impossible. If it's not Benghazi, or email, it would be something else. And it will be something else as the election approaches. The Right will fuss about many things before Nov. 2016. They have to. The public will be bored with all the fuss, but it won't stop the right.

by Anonymousreply 40September 11, 2015 7:11 PM
