The Smell of Cooked Lamb

Does this make anyone else want to vomit? I literally can't be around it.

by Anonymousreply 26July 2, 2021 2:24 PM

I feel sorry for you, OP. I love the smell of cooking lamb almost as much as I love the taste of it.

by Anonymousreply 1August 26, 2015 5:34 PM

yeah, it's pretty disgusting to me too. Haven't eaten lamb in years.

by Anonymousreply 2August 26, 2015 5:36 PM

It's horrible!

by Anonymousreply 3August 26, 2015 5:48 PM

Yes, and it stays on your clothes as well. I cooked lamb in a small apartment once. The smell didn't leave my coat for over a week. Never again.

by Anonymousreply 4August 26, 2015 5:58 PM

Barf.

by Anonymousreply 5August 26, 2015 9:25 PM

Dogs are afraid of the smell of cooked lamb. There's some science behind it.

by Anonymousreply 6August 26, 2015 9:26 PM

Doesn't smell good to me without garlic, rosemary, lemon, and olive oil.

by Anonymousreply 7August 26, 2015 9:41 PM

Hate the smell, while the lamb is cooking, but I LOVE the taste. Lamb is delicious.

by Anonymousreply 8August 26, 2015 9:46 PM

Actually, we like the lambs most as they are being led to slaughter.

by Anonymousreply 9August 26, 2015 9:56 PM

it's a corpse, it's supposed to smell bad. don't eat corpses and your house will smell amazing.

Well, Clarice, have the lambs stopped screaming?

by Anonymousreply 11August 26, 2015 10:17 PM

roasting lamb smells OK to me. It's andouillette I can't stomach, smell or taste.

by Anonymousreply 12August 26, 2015 10:28 PM

It's the tri-annual lamb thread. I hate lamb, I don't like the smell of lamb, does anyone know anyone else who doesn't like the smell of lamb cooking, do Americans not eat much lamb because it smells gamey?

by Anonymousreply 13August 26, 2015 11:38 PM

There was a whole thread about Americans not eating lamb a while back.

by Anonymousreply 14August 26, 2015 11:49 PM

Vegetarians like R10 can never give it a rest. Meanwhile genus Homo has been eating the flesh of other animals for millions of years, just as chimps do whenever they get the chance.

OP I think many of us westerners dislike the smell and taste of lamb because it's very different from the flesh we are accustomed to eating. I can eat it, but just barely. Give me beef or pork any day over lamb.

by Anonymousreply 15August 26, 2015 11:51 PM

I love lamb, but think it is best grilled. Also, that way if the smell bothers you, you can grill it outside.

by Anonymousreply 16August 27, 2015 12:26 AM

It smells like manure to me but I love the taste of grilled lamb.

When I was a kid, we had lamb chops and veal cutlets regularly and income-wise, we were lower middle class. Now I don't even see it for sale in the supermarket.

I love lamb and like to cook it about twice a year as a treat. U.S.. lamb meat varies greatly. I've found that it's worth it to splurge and spend the extra $ on New Zealand lamb, especially for a roast leg. If you're making a lamb curry, you can use the gamey fatty American lamb. NZ lamb is less smelly, too.

by Anonymousreply 18August 27, 2015 12:59 AM

I feel that way about broccoli.

by Anonymousreply 19August 27, 2015 12:59 AM

R19 = George HW Bush

by Anonymousreply 20August 27, 2015 3:37 AM

only in gyros...otherwise it's gross

by Anonymousreply 21August 27, 2015 4:10 AM

Smells like wool

by Anonymousreply 22August 27, 2015 4:16 AM

Roasting lamb doesn't really smell bad to me. Pan broiling or dry frying a lamb chop can smell, especially if it is fatty.

by Anonymousreply 23September 18, 2015 12:29 AM

Well I guess none of you had families who came from southern Italy.

Baccala has to be the most disgusting thing a human has ever eaten.

The smell alone will have on the floor curled up like a fetus weeping for death to come.

It burns it burns

I can't handle it, either - the smell or the taste.

But then I'm a very finicky meat eater.
