Used to be hot

Post you favorite picture of a celebrity when he or she used to be hot. I'll go first. Here's an old photo of Chris O'Donnell before the bloating.

by Anonymousreply 7August 24, 2015 11:32 PM

The thing about Chris O'Donnell is that he became a star based entirely on his looks. He was a really bad actor when he was young and gorgeous -- not just mediocre, REALLY bad. Now his acting has improved to the point where he's at least competent, based on what little I've seen of his TV show. But I'm surprised he got that job in the first place, since his past acting was so terrible, and obviously he's not young and beautiful anymore.

About Chris O'Dinnell's acting-- He was the star of Arthur Miller's "The Man Who Had All The Luck" (2002) on Broadway. No, he was far from a great actor, but he certainly was not as bad as described above.

I was referring to Chris O'Donnell's acting ability when he a young movie star. In my opinion, he became a star at a very young age based solely on his looks, and his acting was very poor in those days. I thought he was terrible in SCENT OF A WOMAN. In fact, that's the specific movie I think of when I remember how bad an actor he was back then. I did see him some years later in the Arthur Miller play, and I didn't think he was any good in that, either.

by Anonymousreply 66August 25, 2015 2:05 AM

RrFor some people, weight gain has only a minor effect on their attractiveness, whereas for others just a couple of extra pounds can ruin their looks. Its usually fine featured people who are prone to put weight on their face.

Chris O'Donnell's weight gain makes his lack of ear lobes even more apparent as the ears seem to disappear behind a bloated face. Such a shame. He was once I'd say 9.5/10 but now barely reaches a 6.

Channing Tatum walks a similarly fine line. He can go from 9.5/10 to about 7.5. When he puts on weight it ruins his face and develops a big fleshy chest with tiny nipples. He seriously needs to lean towards being almost underweight. I would imagine carbs are his problem.

I know Helmut Berger is really old now but he aged quickly and badly. He didn't just grow old. He became really grotesque around the late 90's/2000's. He was extremely handsome in the 60's and early 70's and then it went to hell.

I hope Jonathan Rhys Meyers doesn't go down Berger's route but I fear he's already done real damage.

To the person who dislikes Chris O'Donnell's acting -- Why would you pay Broadway ticket prices to see him in "The Man Who Had All The Luck," if you thought he was a terrible actor? He was the lead in the Arthur Miller play.

by Anonymousreply 83August 25, 2015 3:50 AM

R83, I didn't pay for the ticket. And anyway, I might have expected he would have learned to act by then, since he was cast in the lead of an Arthur Miller play. But no.

Really, when he first started out in movies, in BATMAN AND ROBIN and SCENT OF A WOMAN, I immediately noticed that he had only a fraction of the acting talent of some of the other pretty boys, like Tom Cruise or Val Kilmer or Johnny Depp. Even though movies are so much about looks, they don't usually give a shot to actors who are not just mediocre but actually bad. O'Donnell was one of very few examples I can think of. Who else? Michael Pare?

As for Rick Rossovich, he was indeed as hot as fuck in both TOP GUN and THE TERMINATOR, and I'm sure the only reason he isn't discussed more often is that he didn't end up having much of a career.

by Anonymousreply 147August 27, 2015 3:54 AM

R146 the early group Vanity Fair cover subjects did ok. It was the later ones that became career killers. The ones where the picked "new stars"

see link:

Who are those people? I recognize Chris Klein, Paul Walker Wes Bently and Penelope Cruz. But who are the other girls?

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 148August 27, 2015 4:36 AM

They sank without a trace didn't they R148. It must be said the careers of Bentley and Klein have been crap and Walker was only famous for F&F - not exactly a screen legend.

by Anonymousreply 149August 27, 2015 4:40 AM

[R148] The brunette between Klein and Walker is Selma Blair (Cruel Intentions, Hell Boy, Legally Blonde), the one on Wes Bentley is Mena Suvari (American Pie).

by Anonymousreply 183August 28, 2015 4:53 PM

As Guevara wrote to a friend in 1957, ‘My ideological training means that I am one of those people who believe that the solution to the world’s problems is to be found behind the Iron Curtain.’…He was a great admirer of the Cultural Revolution [in China]. According to Regis Debray, ‘It was he and not Fidel who in 1960 invented Cuba’s first corrective work camp,’ or what the Americans would call a slave labor camp and the Russians called the gulag.”

by Anonymousreply 209September 1, 2015 4:33 AM

The Chris O'Donnell story condensed. You don’t need talent if you are: The son of an influential CBS executive from Winnetka. “Discovered” while working as a busboy at Gene and Georgetti's – Home to the power elite of Hollywood and Chicago’s high rollers. Have family patronage and clout.

by Anonymousreply 210September 1, 2015 11:30 AM

by Anonymousreply 224September 4, 2015 5:40 AM

R217, R220, R224: Orlando Bloom looks great when he has the right costume on. He looked good in the first couple of movies of the Pirates of the Caribbean, he looked good in Kingdom of Heaven. I don' t like the type, but I can understand people who thought he was hot in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. But in general, he is pretty basic. He' s not ugly, but he' s not someone you' d notice walking down the street, I guess.

by Anonymousreply 225September 4, 2015 7:57 AM

Chris O'Donnell started out as a child model. There are still some old images floating around from his Sears catalog days. His claim to fame was that he looked so much younger than his actual age. Casting agents adored him. He was photogenic and he was mature enough to remember his lines, without throwing a tantrum. He eventually built up enough of a portfolio that agents were asking for him. Remember the hamburger commercial with Michael Jordan? That was Chris handing him his order. As far as acting, he received critical acclaim as Jessica Lange's 14 year old son who falls for an older Joan Cusack in Men don't leave. He was supposed to be the next Tom Cruise.

by Anonymousreply 226September 4, 2015 10:18 PM
