Taking your dog everywhere isn't fucking cute

I think dogs are awesome, but I can't fucking understand why people take them to restaurants, stores and other public places. What's the point?

by Anonymousreply 190June 15, 2020 4:12 PM

Those dogs are their companions OP!

by Anonymousreply 1August 21, 2015 3:02 PM

I see people driving with dogs everywhere. And not in the back seat, but right there in the driver's lap. Yesterday, I actually saw a man driving with 3 dogs in his lap, one terrier and 2 chihuahuas. Unbelievable.

What is this with these people who are so insecure, they need these pets everywhere? Some places say only "Companion Dogs" are allowed, but now it seems everyone, though mostly women, brings little Poopsie along wherever they go. I once saw a dog in an aisle at Amoeba Records in L.A. actually snarl and snap at another dog, with numerous innocent bystanders trying to avoid the melee. That's insane. Business establishments don't want to know what they're in for, if a customer gets injured by someone else's dog...

by Anonymousreply 2August 21, 2015 3:09 PM

They're not dogs, asshole!!!!

They are companions and caregivers who provide a service!!!!!

Now get out of my way before I have you arrested!!!

by Anonymousreply 3August 21, 2015 4:09 PM

I see enough gay/hipster males with dogs, R2. I even see dudes with little dogs in their man-purses -- or shirts!

by Anonymousreply 4August 21, 2015 4:18 PM

Mentally ill people bring pets with them everywhere, mostly women. They think they're special snowflakes and that EVERYBODY, and I mean FUCKING EVERYBODY will bow down and worship little pukie and spewkie.

by Anonymousreply 5August 21, 2015 4:21 PM

LMAO...I posted this thread because I'm at a car dealership and this woman just had to bring in her yipping dog. The one that really gets me is bringing your dirty, slobbering dog to a restaurant with outdoor seating.

by Anonymousreply 6August 21, 2015 4:31 PM

Pets are cool and they improve people's manners. It's like bringing in a downs kid - with less yelling.

by Anonymousreply 7August 21, 2015 4:36 PM
Pets are cool and they improve people's manners.

No they don't. In my neighborhood all the dog owners let their dogs shit and piss on everyone's lawns. Sometimes they pick it up and a lot of times they don't. Dog owners used to walk their dogs on the boulevard but now let the animals run wild.

by Anonymousreply 8August 21, 2015 4:39 PM

I've seen 2 dogs piss on the carpet at CVS weho.

by Anonymousreply 9August 21, 2015 4:43 PM

What garbage neighborhood do you live in, R8? Do the residents litter?

Yeah, this may not be a good trend for you.

by Anonymousreply 10August 21, 2015 4:44 PM

If they didn't bring their dogs into the restaurant, they'd have to leave them inside the sealed, broiling hot cars, and just THINK of the frau outrage!

by Anonymousreply 11August 21, 2015 4:47 PM

R9, I've seen drunk queens pissing in the Broadway Walgreens in Boystown. What's your point?

by Anonymousreply 12August 21, 2015 4:50 PM

R10: The New York Times recently ran an article about a building with million dollar apartments in Brooklyn that now forces occupants to have their dogs have their DNA registered. Why? People who didn't want to go outside we're letting their dogs shit and piss in stairwells. I grew up in an affluent area and my dad had to chase down a neighbor when he caught her letting her dog defecate on our lawn. It's not just people in poor areas who let their dogs run wild.

by Anonymousreply 13August 21, 2015 4:59 PM

I didn't think anyone did this outside of France. When did this become a "thing" in America?? I would agree that it's an attention-getting thing for most people, like those with babies who just expect everyone to stop and ohhhh and awwww. We used to take our cat on picnics and walks through the woods but we avoided people like the plague so that they would scare him. I personally don't like strangers approaching me to chat and can't understand those who do.

by Anonymousreply 14August 21, 2015 5:00 PM
bringing your dirty, slobbering dog ...

My well-behaved dog - who doesn't slobber, shed, piss and stink, btw - is a hell of a lot more sanitary than most of the precious little brats that the breeders let run amok.

by Anonymousreply 15August 21, 2015 5:01 PM

dogs > babies

by Anonymousreply 16August 21, 2015 5:04 PM

Lesbian here. This is a HUGE thing with lesbians and it is so annoying. I went on a speed dating event and a woman had her dog with her the entire time. When we finally were paired up for our "date" she explained to me that her dog "goes everywhere with her, even to work." NEXT! Look, I love animals and have my own pets, but they are pets not life companions. I've also made it a policy that if a woman puts a picture of her dog as her default dating profile pic that I just move right on by. It's one thing to have a pet. Another to fetishize them.

by Anonymousreply 17August 21, 2015 5:12 PM

R11 Leaving a dog in a hot car provokes only "Frau outrage"? You're on the wrong forum dearie.

by Anonymousreply 18August 21, 2015 5:12 PM

I have to admit that I'm a little over the whole dog obsession. People are turning them into people and have forgotten that they're pets. I don't want a fucking dog in a restaurant or the grocery store. And I would prefer that you don't let your dog jump up on me and slobber all over me. And no, your dog is not a person so stop treating it like one.

by Anonymousreply 19August 21, 2015 5:21 PM

Okay to leave in a hot car: sullen teens and senior citizens.

Not OK: babies and pets.

by Anonymousreply 20August 21, 2015 5:21 PM

Because they are usually better than people.

by Anonymousreply 21August 21, 2015 5:22 PM

by Anonymousreply 22August 21, 2015 5:23 PM

How could Rosie's kid have a 6 month old therapy dog? I think the dog would need to go through more training.

by Anonymousreply 23August 21, 2015 5:27 PM

How can anyone not like dogs? You all must be social misfits.

by Anonymousreply 24August 21, 2015 6:43 PM

Dogs are sycophants. Fuck them.

by Anonymousreply 25August 21, 2015 6:52 PM

The bottom line is if the dog is well-behaved there should be no problem with him being able to go anywhere other than inside a restaurant or grocery store. My 11 year old border collie is well behaved, goes potty only at the park, loves being with me to run errands because it beats staying home alone all day. If he were not that way, I would never inflict his presence on the unwashed masses, who, by the way, could learn a thing or two about good behavior from him.

by Anonymousreply 26August 21, 2015 6:57 PM

A FACT: People have allergies to dogs and cats. People who are allergic try to manage where they go to minimize exposure. It's becoming complicated.

I have been in two hotel rooms where dogs have been and initially couldn't figure out why I was shutting down. (Dog dander). Also once on an airplane a nearby passenger's dog was out of the carrying case; it started the head/body shake. It wa inconsiderate of the owner to allow that to happen.

by Anonymousreply 27August 21, 2015 7:08 PM

I never see dogs inside businesses of any kind except pet stores here in flyover country. The last time I saw a dog in a business was when I was in San Diego at an in-n-out burger. Some chick with tattoos was ordering and had her Chihuahua on her hip. I thought it was kind of gross -- is it legal in California?

by Anonymousreply 28August 21, 2015 7:09 PM

My optometrist brings her well-behaved German Shepherd to work with her and keeps him in a small room behind the desk. No one complains and if a patient wants to pet the dog, they can go back and pet him. Some of you people on this thread are sadly depriving yourselves of the joy of animals.

For all you people saying that those of us who do not want dogs in stores, etc hate animals, in my case it's the exact opposite. My cats all walked on leashes, my bunny walked on a leash and I have a dog. What happens is when certain irresponsible people go too far, everyone else starts resenting the animals. Look at children, I use to love kids; I hate them now but that's not their fault, it's their irresponsible parents. We don't need any more animal haters in the world than there are already so you kooks better stop provoking the it. If you think you have the right to take your dog everywhere then everyone does, and everyone might not own "the most well-behaved animal" on the planet.

by Anonymousreply 31August 21, 2015 8:41 PM

I hate your kids too, RFucko.

by Anonymousreply 33August 21, 2015 8:55 PM

Ugh, the ridiculous and constant argument of "most dogs are better behaved than most children!" is old, redundant and completely beside the point. It does nothing to further the actual discussion. Can we stop it?

At the doctor's office recently another patient came in, the dog had a leash on but the owner let go of the leash and just let the dog run wild in the doctor's office lobby. The dog jumped up on me and started pawing at my clothes (it's a good thing I didn't have on something made of delicate fabric, because the dog's nails were sharp) and licking me. All the owner said was "I hope you like dogs." No "sorry", not a move to get the animal under control, nor did either of the two receptionist's say anything. This is all very typical in New York. You have to especially watch out in smaller stores where space is really tight that you don't trip on a leash or the dog itself.

I get it--they think they need the dog with them wherever they go. But what about my right to not have the dog jump on me? To not have to deal with it?

Children, in these circumstances, can be equally awful in a different way.

by Anonymousreply 38August 21, 2015 9:38 PM

One other thought - it's bad enough the parents who bring their toddlers/underage (like nowhere near 21) kids into what is truly a BAR--not a bar/restaurant--a BAR. Wait till the gay guys of NYC start bringing their spoiled pooches into Boxers, Therapy, etc. en masse! It'll be a new low in Manhattan gay life.

by Anonymousreply 40August 22, 2015 12:31 AM

Dog owners are among the most selfish idiots out there.

by Anonymousreply 41August 22, 2015 12:40 AM

And what exactly is wrong with a well-behaved dog in a grocery store or a restaurant? Is it simply because it is in the same ROOM as food? What, does the food get contaminated because it shares the same air?

If the dog is not peeing/shitting/licking/rolling around on the buffet table - then what the fuck is the problem? Snot-nosed kids who actually run around, drool, touch everything, cough & sneeze without covering their mouths - not to mention leaky baby diapers in the seat of a grocery cart - are a far worse sanitary threat.

Have you ever eaten in a home in which there is a dog? Did you die or contract the plague?

Then shut the fuck up. Often your BO is far worse than anything emanating from my chihuahua.

by Anonymousreply 42August 22, 2015 12:42 AM

R42

You got to be fucking crazy if I would accept dogs in a grocery store or in a restaurant where I am eating. Selfish, ignorant idiot!

by Anonymousreply 43August 22, 2015 12:48 AM

Why is you never see cat owners engaging in this type of behavior?

I have two cats at home, whom I love dearly, and could never imagine taking them out in public or submitting others to their presence.

by Anonymousreply 44August 22, 2015 12:49 AM

Ditto, R44. R42, leave your dog the fuck home. They don't want to be at the grocery store or the restaurant. You can't leave kids home because it's against the law. Leave your dog at home where they prefer to be.

Because they've become fashion accessories. It's fucking ridiculous how people treat their pets anymore, like they're human children. I saw a fucking grown pit bull in 'Gelson's' one evening and there was a woman complaining about it. I said something in her defense too. The pit bull owner fit the bill - insipid, powerless and trashy. His only comeback to the woman was, "Look at you! You're ugly!".

by Anonymousreply 55August 22, 2015 11:29 AM

I love dogs and love to be around them. Most are well-behaved, and I don't have any problem with service animals (that are legit). Some dog owners, however, do not properly train or keep their animals clean, and that's where I have a problem. All animal owners think their pets are perfect little jewels, whether they are trained or not, so how does a establishment decide if an animal is trained and clean before entering their business? It's impossible. I don't mind a dog sitting with it's owner at a outdoor cafe, but I draw the line at bringing them into retail/public establishments. Mostly, I do very much mind the trend of hotels allowing pets in the room. At least someof the the rooms could be designated as rooms for people with pets and leave some rooms with a no pet policy. Just think of what you are walking/sleeping on. Dog or cat drool, urine, feces, fleas, etc. It's not sanitary.

by Anonymousreply 56August 22, 2015 12:06 PM
drool, urine, feces, fleas, etc. It's not sanitary.

You weren't dating during the meth epidemic of 2001-2006, were you?

by Anonymousreply 57August 22, 2015 12:09 PM

A little off topic but dogs are being treated more and more like children. When you buy a new puppy now you have to provide a vet reference (which I understand), groomer references, personal references (non-relatives), and they do home visits to see if your home is suitable and safe for the pup. You must have a fenced-in yard for all but the smallest breeds. You have to fill out a pretty extensive adoption application. It is exhausting. And they can turn you down for any reason. People go overboard on these applications. Home visits? Please - give me a break.

My doctor and one of his nurses said it was a difficult process to get their dogs. My dog just died and I dread going through all that. They are not children.

I thought hotels had designated rooms for pet owners. I understand people taking their dogs on road trips with them because it is expensive to get a pet sitter and they don't want to leave them in small rooms in boarding facilities where you don't know how they're being treated while you're gone.

by Anonymousreply 58August 22, 2015 1:00 PM

I think this happens less in flyover country, and more in the big cities.

I've noticed this practice more and more in NY, LA, Miami, etc. Dogs in restaurants, dogs in grocery stores, dogs everywhere.

I actually love dogs, and I'm not too offended by seeing them everywhere, but I do think it's ridiculous. And they definitely don't belong in grocery stores near food. But then again, neither do children.

by Anonymousreply 59August 22, 2015 1:22 PM

I have never seen a dog owner at the supermarket put a bunch of broccoli back on the shelf after her dog took a bite out of it.

by Anonymousreply 60August 22, 2015 1:48 PM

I don't like my neighbors that take their dogs out without leashes. There were strict rules at the last complex I used to live at, but where I live now they are very relaxed with old retired people who don't work. I hate walking out at 6am, hands full of stuff for work, to be accosted and barked at by someone's dumb dog. I hate seeing other humans that early, let alone someone's pet. There should also be rules that people that don't work cannot walk their dogs until later in the morning when most people have left for work.

by Anonymousreply 61August 22, 2015 1:52 PM

Why do some people claim to love their pets, yet totally disregard that pet's feelings? My parents have a friendly dog who gets skittish when she's bombarded with attention from too many people. I see nervous pets in public all the time who are groped by every man, woman and child while their owners bask in attention. It's like it never occurs to these selfish pricks that their dog would rather not be petted and picked up by strangers.

I live in the DC area and there's a neighborhood that is known for being particularly pet-friendly (Shirlington). I see dogs tied up while their owners enjoy dining outside and the poor things never look all that happy. And rest assured most people who walk past assume they have the right to bother the dogs.

by Anonymousreply 64August 22, 2015 3:18 PM

What gets me is seeing people driving with dogs in their laps, in front of the steering wheel. I recently saw an overweight man with no less than 3 small dogs in his lap, at least 2 of them Chihuahuas. That should be considered a safety hazard. What if he needs to make a sudden stop? There'd be animals everywhere. Really crazy.

In some states, there are laws stating dogs in the back of pickup trucks need to be tethered; otherwise, at sudden stops, they just go flying. So now I see the occasional dog in the back of a pickup, attached to a leash, so that, at a sudden stop, he gets thrown out and strangled. Not sure if this is much of an improvement....

by Anonymousreply 65August 22, 2015 3:19 PM

My boyfriend has a couple dogs. You come to realize what a pain in the ass it can be. You can't leave them alone at home for any extended amount of time, so you end up taking them with you. You pretty much plan your life around them, especially if you want to get away for the weekend of something. Limits the spontaneity.

by Anonymousreply 66August 22, 2015 3:32 PM

Stupid Person: "I love my dog so much I treat it like a human baby!"

Me (incredulously): "You love your dog so much you abuse it?"

Dogs don't understand and are extremely unhappy and unhealthy when they are not allowed to be dogs.

You are not a dog lover, you are an abuser. It's not about you, bitch, it's about what the dog needs.

R6, you seem like you exaggerate a lot. I'd take my dogs to more places if I could. The dogs I've seen at public places such as outdoor eating spots are always well behaved. No slobbering, no yipping. And I'll bet you hate dogs as well.

by Anonymousreply 74August 22, 2015 6:55 PM

I assumed dogs were not allowed in doctor's offices. There could be allergic people in there or just people who would find it more stressful. Or the dog could pick up germs and carry them home to others. I'm all for dogs in many places including restaurants and trains, but not doctor's offices

by Anonymousreply 81August 22, 2015 9:21 PM

Some of you are clueless bordering on retarded.

People have pet allergies to the animal's dander. You can't eliminate it and even the cleanest animals have it. Do not bring your dander-filled dog to a place where people are buying food and drink, or actually eating and drinking. You'll make them sick. Take your dog somewhere that your dog actually wants to go, not where you want to go.

by Anonymousreply 82August 22, 2015 10:51 PM

if I had a dog I'd take it everywhere too. do you expect them to be left alone? not everyone is like you with the sole purpose of getting people's attention. I'm sure they were thinking about their dogs when they made the decision to take them and not about a queen's attention.

by Anonymousreply 83August 22, 2015 10:57 PM

The allergy argument is bogus. A guide dog must be allowed and would cause you just as many issues with allergies. So are you saying blind people should be kept at home? No, if you have the allergy you stay at home.

by Anonymousreply 86August 23, 2015 1:40 AM

I agree with R17 and R19. Dogs are fine, but I'm pretty sick of them being everywhere in my city. I especially don't like people who are too invested in their dogs. Dogs are nice, but dog owners are getting to be like parents: Love me, love my dog; my dog is my best friend and life companion; look at my dog, isn't he cute? It's too much. The one big upside, though, is that there's almost always someone out walking their dogs when I walk home some nights around 11 or 11:30, and I feel safer.

by Anonymousreply 87August 23, 2015 1:49 AM

For the morons posting that aid dogs are in the same league as any other dog this simply is not the case. Those dogs are trained early on and have developed the coping skills necessary to be in busy and crowded areas - and many flunk out of the program because they can't overcome their natures in this regard. I take my dog on walks and to doggie runs: that's it! If we go anywhere else, he stays home and "babysits" the cats. Sometimes he's upset and does a "protest poop" in the basement but too bad. I consider it inhumane to stress out an animal by dragging it all over town just so I can get some attention.

It's not fair to an animal to board them or make them travel long distance, so I'm gong to wait. I think that's a choice you have to make when you decide you want a pet.

by Anonymousreply 95August 23, 2015 11:25 AM

Boarding your dog for a week or two is not cruel and unusual punishment, r95. Do your research and board them at a place that truly loves every pet that a pet parent entrusts to them.
Let's put the blame where it belongs, the damned firemen and their dalmatians started all this.

I blame Paris Hilton. She made Chihuahuas "cool," and taking them everywhere, "trendy."

Yet another reason to hate her.

by Anonymousreply 97August 23, 2015 1:51 PM

I agree about pets controlling the actions of their owners and the owner's significant other. Can't do sleepovers at my house, because he has a pet. Can't go anywhere overnight, because who will take care of the pet? Can't book into a lot of places, because they don't take pets. Makes me wonder whom I'm dating here, him or the dog? Or, is it that we have to have a threesome from the very beginning?

I once met a nice man when I lived in San Diego. But, when we went back to his place, his little yapper of a dog would not stop yelping loudly, after the bedroom door was closed, then, after he finally allowed it in, kept trying to get up on the bed with us, still crying and whining loudly. I did not spend the night, and later told him I really liked him, but just could not deal with that constantly attention-seeking animal. I wished them both a happy life, and went my way.

by Anonymousreply 98August 23, 2015 2:07 PM

I saw an episode of "The Dog Whisperer" in which a very young queen had a little yapper, perhaps chihuahua or Yorkie, who behaved badly, snapping, snarling at everything and everyone. The owner had spent a good amount of time dressing the dog up in doggie clothes - booties, hat, sweater - for its appointment with Cesar Milan. Milan walked in, takes one look at the dog and says "Why do you have Fido dressed up like that? It's a dog!"

Many dog owners have completely lost sight of the fact that their pet is not a child, or a therapist, or security blanket, good-luck charm, fashion accessory or social date. It's a motherfucking DOG!!

by Anonymousreply 99August 23, 2015 2:25 PM

The concept of "service dogs" has been taken way too far. It's a measure of how entitled people feel to do whatever they want, no matter what. It's also a matter of how sorry they feel for themselves. Oh, poor me, my fibromyalgia could act up unless my service shih-tzu is with me to comfort me.

by Anonymousreply 100August 23, 2015 2:29 PM

I was in the Santa Monica/Venice area last week, and there were dogs everywhere--at restaurants, at office meetings...even went to a party at a smallish house and 4 different people had brought their big ass dogs. They were well behaved, just sort of in the way. Still thought it was kind of weird.

by Anonymousreply 101August 23, 2015 2:41 PM

I don't mind seeing dogs out and about, but where I live, it's a rarity. I don't think I've ever seen a dog in a grocery store or restaurant, not even at a place called The White Dog, near a friend I'm visiting this week.

by Anonymousreply 102August 23, 2015 2:55 PM

Yesterday I was at a winery that allowed dogs, and post people had the good sense to keep their pets outside (where there was ample lawn seating). However, while a friend and I were inside doing a wine tasting, this woman with a dog decided to sit nearby.

The dog immediately starts shaking itself and lo and behold, it's shedding. My friend is allergic to dogs so his face gets red and his eyes start watering, and my nose starts itching. It pissed me off because the selfish dog owner knew her dog was shedding, yet she brought it inside anyway. And sorry, but I don't know why a business would want to make life unpleasant for paying customers just to accommodate some oblivious bitch.

by Anonymousreply 103August 23, 2015 2:55 PM

r89 calm down, Maria. Of course dogs are allowed in hospitals - therapy dogs. They are brought in for terminally ill persons, children with cancer, those recovering from serious injuries. For many conditions. It is not uncommon to pass a dog in the hallway of the cliniques where I live.

by Anonymousreply 104August 23, 2015 3:11 PM

I had a greyhound for years. I took him on walks, to the park and dog run, and to my parents when I visited for a few days. That's it. The poor thing lived his whole life without attending a gallery opening, restaurant, or wine tasting!

by Anonymousreply 105August 23, 2015 4:17 PM

That's your prerogative, r105. I have a right to take my vizsla anywhere I want. He is my companion and one of my best friends. It's not up to him or me to make you feel comfortable. You either deal or you dont.

by Anonymousreply 106August 23, 2015 4:30 PM

R106 and dog; two entitled bitches.

by Anonymousreply 107August 23, 2015 4:32 PM

God, I hate people like R106!!! You piece of shit!!! You are encouraging hatred and resentment of an animal you allege to love. You are so myopic and entitled: a narcissistic little puke. People like you should never be allowed near an animal.

by Anonymousreply 108August 23, 2015 4:36 PM

They're not dogs! They're fur-people!!

by Anonymousreply 109August 23, 2015 6:11 PM

R108, I'd rather let my dog hang out with r106 than with you.

by Anonymousreply 110August 23, 2015 6:31 PM

Thank you for proving my point, R106.

by Anonymousreply 111August 23, 2015 6:40 PM

Well, that's too bad, Dumbass R110 because you obviously can't see that people like R106 are insecure users and will toss you aside once you are no longer useful. Meanwhile, I wouldn't let you with in a 5 mile radius of my pets.

by Anonymousreply 112August 23, 2015 8:00 PM
I have a right to take my vizsla anywhere I want.

I'm going to assume you're being sarcastic r106. If you're not-- no, you don't. I'm a small time landlord. I own a few small storefront rental properties. I pay the mortgage, taxes and everything else.. My property, my rules.

I love dogs and mostly let my tenants set the their own policies regarding pets in their businesses but pet owners also need to use some common sense. Dogs don't belong everywhere and anywhere just because their owners are too neurotic to leave home without them.

by Anonymousreply 113August 24, 2015 3:22 AM

R108, the hatred is on you and other dog haters. Don't put that bullshit on me or my dog. We're just living life and enjoying it! And my dog is very well behaved and gets compliments everywhere we hang out together.

by Anonymousreply 114August 24, 2015 3:38 AM

Where do live, r113? U live in the US and take my vizsla everywhere and except for a few intolerant bigots I have been welcomed everywhere with him. Vizslas are very regal looking and acting so that could be it but NYC has been very accommodating to us. People like you are bigots against animal lovers and I hope you enjoy being a lonely little slum lord with your pathetic small time properties.

No you don't!

by Anonymousreply 117August 24, 2015 3:50 AM

Children bite far less frequently than dogs do, and people are not allergic to children. but they are allergic to dogs.

I agree that this is much more of a thing in LA, Miami, SF, and LA than it is anywhere else. I live in the Pacific NW and no one really does this indoors ever, although people do bring their dogs to outdoor tables at restaurants when the weather is nice.

by Anonymousreply 118August 24, 2015 3:52 AM

R114, actually I have a Pomeranian/Papillon cross who looks like a fuzzy little black bear cub. I hardly doubt your dog gets more compliments than mine. Still I know he's not perfect and I know that as a dog he gets stressed out in unfamiliar, noisy and/or crowded environments - AS MOST DOGS DO. The point is, even if YOU have the MOST WELL-BEHAVED, AMAZING DOG EVER!!!!!!, if you have a right to drag him everywhere then other people have the right to do so with their dogs, and they might NOT have the most well-behaved, amazing dog ever. It's not rocket science, moron (or as you'd probably put it: "rocket appliances"). I hope with your attitude that you aren't older than 12. If so, wear your helmet!

by Anonymousreply 119August 24, 2015 4:20 AM

R119, I want people to bring animals everywhere.

Sorry, but I believe violence would go down.

by Anonymousreply 120August 24, 2015 4:33 AM

My father was horribly allergic to dogs and cats. When he was dying of cancer I used to take him out to dinner sometimes. It was quite a production by that point but he enjoyed it so that's what we did. One night at dinner my father started having a really bad allergic reaction. Turned out some selfish asshole had brought her dog into the restaurant.

Dogs are wonderful and they do not belong everywhere, all the time.

by Anonymousreply 121August 24, 2015 4:39 AM

It's a shame my helper monkey wasn't there to jab your dad's cancer-riddled body with an epi-pen, R121.

Monkeys do that when they're not flinging feces at animal haters.

by Anonymousreply 123August 24, 2015 4:58 AM
But it was very cute.

And then the dog lifts its leg to pee or squats to shit. End of cute. Beginning of inconsiderate.

by Anonymousreply 124August 24, 2015 5:01 AM

People in France must not be as allergic to dogs as people in the U.S. R123.

by Anonymousreply 125August 24, 2015 5:03 AM

I feel so sorry for R122's dog. If she's this pointlessly nasty on a website, she must treat her dog terribly at home. It's safe to assume that she can't keep a relationship going either.

by Anonymousreply 126August 24, 2015 5:03 AM

R124 doesn't know that dogs can be trained not to pee and shit indoors.

Take the mask off and leave the dungeon once in a while.

by Anonymousreply 127August 24, 2015 5:07 AM

Dog worship is a female thing. I rarely see men indulging in it but straight women and lesbians do it all the time. It must be the loneliness that drives them to it.

by Anonymousreply 128August 24, 2015 5:13 AM

R127 Doesn't know that dogs regularly pee/shit indoors, despite training.

Pull you head out of your pro-lapsed ass once in a while.

Whadda ya mean I bring me 2 meter goanna into the resto, mate?! He's a damn sight better behaved than these yabbos!

by Anonymousreply 131August 24, 2015 5:25 AM

^^ can't bring^^

by Anonymousreply 132August 24, 2015 5:25 AM

Actually, you [italic]cannot[/italic] take your vizsla with you "anywhere you want," r106.

The Board of Health will keep him from entering restaurants with you.

You cannot bring him to hospitals.

You cannot bring him into most classrooms.

You cannot bring him to museums, or theaters, or musical performance halls.

Any private store or domicile that wishes to do so can ban you from entering with him.

You actually have the right to take him very few places, when you think about it.

by Anonymousreply 133August 24, 2015 5:26 AM

Everyone figured out pretty quickly (few years?) that under the current ADA guidelines, you only have to *say* "it's a service animal" -- you are not required to show proof, nor have the dog in a (fake) service vest -- and shopkeepers, restaurants, etc. have to back off, and allow the dog in the establishment, as long as it behaves appropriately. (not barking, lunging, snapping, deficating).

Trader Joe's in L.A. has simply given up the fight. After receiving complaints from customers who said they felt "harassed" by TJ's managers approaching them to ask if their dog was a service animal, they have since instructed to the managers to leave dog owners alone. The only times they will approach a dog owner now, is when the dog is riding inside the shopping cart (a health code violation), or if it is behaving inappropriately (barking, lunging, jumping, etc). And even then, they will probably offer to have a crew member offer to watch your dog outside, while you grab a few things. I'm 100% serious. It's fucking ridiculous.

by Anonymousreply 134August 24, 2015 6:37 AM

Our little angel LOVES coming with us when we go shopping. Oddly enough, his favorite store seems to be Lowes!

And No, we are not lesbians.

by Anonymousreply 135August 24, 2015 6:50 AM

Has Datalounge always been this anti-dog? I don't remember this being the case when I would read dog-related threads a few years ago. Now, it seems dogs are as reviled as Muslims and Christians around here.

by Anonymousreply 136August 24, 2015 7:18 AM

No one....NO ONE is worse then a " cat lover". Makes dog lovers look positively sane and well centered.

by Anonymousreply 137August 24, 2015 7:18 AM
Now, it seems dogs are as reviled as Muslims and Christians around here.

And in all instances, the revulsion is amply warranted.

by Anonymousreply 138August 24, 2015 7:42 AM

R138, a dog-HATER is as bad as a Christian or a Muslim.

So glad I don't know any of you miserable cunts in real life.

by Anonymousreply 139August 24, 2015 7:55 AM

R139 The definition of miserable cunt is someone who feels entitled to publicly foist their mutts AND themselves on others.

by Anonymousreply 140August 24, 2015 8:06 AM

R136, I remember threads started by dog and cat lovers not too long ago on DL, and lots of animal lovers replying. I think maybe these are just a few people who don't like dogs going in restaurants and grocery stores which I kind of understand. Also some of them just like to bitch.

by Anonymousreply 141August 24, 2015 8:09 AM

There is nothing wrong with traveling with your dog as long as you don't travel too far and stop every couple of hours to let them potty, eat and drink water, etc.

I feel for people who have allergies, but hotels are supposed to have only certain rooms where they allow pets and they need to tell the hotel when they make reservations that they have allergies and make sure they get a room that no pets have been in.

by Anonymousreply 142August 24, 2015 8:20 AM

You people complain about everything.

by Anonymousreply 143August 24, 2015 8:34 AM

(R69) Sorry, 'tard, it's in West Hollywood.

by Anonymousreply 144August 24, 2015 9:35 AM
let them potty,

You type well for a four year old.

by Anonymousreply 145August 24, 2015 10:29 AM

Thanks R145.. Maybe I should have said "let them shit and piss". I was half asleep and used "they" too many times in the 2nd paragraph.

by Anonymousreply 146August 24, 2015 6:32 PM

I have no allergies, but I don't want to sleep in a hotel room that had guests with pets the night before.

by Anonymousreply 147August 24, 2015 9:34 PM

"Potty" belongs in that "words people use that make me hate them" thread, r146.

by Anonymousreply 148August 24, 2015 9:41 PM

I was at the Whitney Museum this weekend and saw a woman with a tiny dog on a leash. It was not wearing anything that distinguished it as a service or support dog. Is the Whitney pet-friendly? I wondered if the older woman was a rich patron/donor and she was given some leeway.

by Anonymousreply 149August 24, 2015 9:52 PM

Oh, go play in the street R148. My favorite aunt used to say "potty" all the time and that word subconsciously entered my mind while half asleep. I never use that word either, until this morning.

by Anonymousreply 150August 24, 2015 10:03 PM

R130, thank you for my first laugh today.

by Anonymousreply 151August 24, 2015 10:26 PM
And my dog is very well behaved and gets compliments everywhere we hang out together. --R106

That's probably because he's so much less obnoxious than you are, but it still doesn't mean he belongs everywhere you want to go.

by Anonymousreply 152August 24, 2015 10:40 PM

I love dogs. So I leave mine at home when I go out

by Anonymousreply 153August 24, 2015 10:55 PM

When my dad was in the hospital, they allowed me to bring in my rescue cocker every day.

If its cool with a hospital, it should be cool with everyone else.

by Anonymousreply 154August 24, 2015 11:06 PM

Thank you, R153, for being the voice of reason.

And for the poster who claims this is a female thing, you obviously don't live in NYC where the percentage of men bringing their dogs everywhere is much higher than that of women. At least on the west side of town.

by Anonymousreply 155August 24, 2015 11:09 PM

R154, I am so with you, but what's up with adding the word 'rescue' to describe your dog?

I should probably add that to the thread of words that wound, or whatever it's called.

by Anonymousreply 156August 25, 2015 7:25 AM

In NYC, dogs are not allowed in restaurants, although that might be about to change for restaurants with outdoor spaces. They are allowed in bars that don't serve food, but it's up to the discretion of the owner/manager. My husband sometimes likes to go for a pint when he walks our dog and there are a few places in our Brooklyn neighborhood that allow dogs. I am sure dogs are not allowed in Trader Joe's or any other grocery store here. I have seen small dogs in non-food stores, usually in a woman's handbag.

by Anonymousreply 157August 25, 2015 9:04 AM

Not so much wounding, r156, as ostentatiously irrelevant.

by Anonymousreply 158August 25, 2015 11:46 AM
If its cool with a hospital, it should be cool with everyone else.

The hospital re-enforces my entitledness, therefore I'm absolved from having to give a flying fuck whether or not others in hospital - patients, staff, doctors, visitors, etc. - welcome my mutt and me.

by Anonymousreply 159August 25, 2015 12:07 PM

R156, it means she wasn't trained as a helper pet.

As long as we're discussing how much more entitled I am to bring my dog everywhere, Did i mention that she had cherry-eye and Bells palsy? And my dad was in hospice? And he died? And I'm now an orphan?

by Anonymousreply 160August 25, 2015 12:14 PM

Naturally, r160, we all assumed she was a helper pet, so thanks for the clarification.

Some of you Americans are amusing. I've been to American grocery stores and watched toddlers and young children put their fingers in their noses and ass cracks then touch food products in the meat and bakery sections. One boy patted all the fucking chicken as he moved down the aisle playing. And you're worried about dogs?

by Anonymousreply 163August 25, 2015 6:48 PM

We haven't evolved to the point of banning children from public yet, R163. Baby steps . . .

by Anonymousreply 164August 25, 2015 8:06 PM

Start a new thread, R163. This one is about dogs being where they're not supposed to be.

by Anonymousreply 165August 25, 2015 11:01 PM

R163

You are the reason people loathe dogs!

by Anonymousreply 166August 26, 2015 1:00 AM

Was in a bar recently and thought of this thread. Some douchebag couldn't spend a moment by himself so he brought his ginormous lab with him. Unfortunately, the owners didn't tell him to fuck off.

I honestly am starting to think that some people who can't go without their dogs for a few hours are in sexual relationships with their pets. They actually look at their pet as a boyfriend or girlfriend.

by Anonymousreply 167September 27, 2015 2:49 PM

R166, you are the reason people loathe other people.

So are you, R167.

by Anonymousreply 168September 27, 2015 2:56 PM

R168, your delusional codependency isn't my issue.

by Anonymousreply 169September 27, 2015 2:58 PM

You are not my issue, R169. And you never will be.

by Anonymousreply 170September 27, 2015 3:00 PM

I'm European.. We've had dogs in our company forever. But then dogs originated in Europe.

It'll take some time for Americans to evolve in this respect, poor buggers. In the meantime kindly work on the shitty manners of your breeder spawn.

R95, it depends on the dog and, of course, where you want to go. Some people have friends who care for a dog while a person is away. But I discovered when I had to take a trip by car that my dog is the best traveler. He loved to go, he's friendly and low key. He was very good in the motel and now he stops by the car every time we go through the garage, hoping to take another trip. I had no idea, but if I were traveling by car and he was welcome, I'd take him anywhere.

by Anonymousreply 172September 30, 2015 6:25 PM

If you don't like dogs, you're a weirdo.

by Anonymousreply 173September 30, 2015 6:34 PM

Practically everywhere would be better if dogs were allowed.

by Anonymousreply 174September 30, 2015 7:28 PM

I saw some crazy guy let his dog shit outside our retail shop inside a shopping center just a few weeks ago. Dog owners are the most repulsive and irresponsible idiots on this planet. A friend of mine lives in an apartment block that allows dogs. The tenant upstairs from her has a big dog that lives on the 15 sq ft balcony. Numerous times during the week he locks the dog out yawling and pissing all over on the balcony, the piss is dripping down to the lower apartments. I always loved dogs and still do, but the overwhelming majority of bare brained dog owners are ruining it.

by Anonymousreply 175September 30, 2015 9:01 PM

Sure, right after I snuff the stupid dog.

by Anonymousreply 176September 30, 2015 10:18 PM

I have a Sheltie and I love her dearly. However, I would NEVER drag her to the grocery store, restaurant, etc. Why? Because she is a DOG and DOES NOT belong in such places! She is not a "fur baby" or "fuzzy widdle angel"--she is a DOG!

These assholes exploiting the ADA loophole for "service animals" are the ones who need a cock / cunt punch.

by Anonymousreply 177September 30, 2015 10:21 PM

Shelties are as aloof as cats. They don't deserve to go to the store.

by Anonymousreply 178September 30, 2015 10:24 PM

I have pepper spray on my keychain. A dog that lunges at me or acts aggressively gets a shot in the face. An owner that threatens me because I defended myself from their little shit factory gets one too.

by Anonymousreply 179October 1, 2015 12:06 AM

In the days before leash laws, everyone trained their dogs to shit in the bushes.

You never saw it, and nobody ever picked it.

dog shit on lawns was very infrequent and caused by strays before the dog catcher picked them up.

WITH leash laws, there is now dog shit on everyone's lawn, while an owner watches it happen and ignores it.

It was so much better before leash laws.

by Anonymousreply 180October 1, 2015 12:40 AM

You care more about the lawn than dogs. That is interesting R180.

by Anonymousreply 181October 1, 2015 1:27 AM

I'd rather my neighbor take his dog everywhere, instead of leaving it at home when he's away, where it barks and barks and barks and barks and barks and barks and barks and barks and barks and barks and barks and barks and barks.

All true. I have much the same attitude towards people always dragging around their very young children. It's just self-indulgence and not caring (or knowing) what babies and dogs actually like. Take them to the park, a local beach or pond, throw a ball in the backyard, take a walk.

My exception is mothers with kids in the grocery store. From the exhausted and pained looks on their faces they wouldn't do it if they could afford an alternative.

Wait, what are those dogs doing, R182?

The people in the house behind mine are retired and home all day. They toss their two little yap-yap dogs out the door in the morning and leave them outside for hours. They bark and bark and well, see R182. I don't get it. They don't even have to walk them, their backyard is large enough for a dozen dogs. Why have dogs if you don't like them enough to have them in the house?
